1 Timothy 1:15
15Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst.
So, how many of you would say that you're the worst of sinners? I know I would.
1 Timothy 1:19b-20
Some have rejected these [faith and a good conscience] and so have shipwrecked their faith. 20Among them are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have handed over to Satan to be taught not to blaspheme.
So, what does Paul mean by this? I'm asking 'cause I seriously don't know... :/
1 Timothy 2:11
A woman should learn in quietness and full submission
We've discussed this a lot lately. What would you say it means? Is he really saying that women shouldn't be allowed to talk at all during church? :/
1 Timothy 2:14-15
14And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner.15But women[Greek: "she"; could mean Eve, I guess...] will be saved[or "restored"] through childbearing—if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety.
What d'you make of this verse? It seems a little odd; women will be saved through childbearing...
1 Timothy 4:1
1The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.
Anyone else think this could be a reference to Islam, among other things? Muhammad was probably visited by a demon (or he was insane), so it could be mentioning that.
1 Timothy 4:12
12Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity.
Can't remember if it still is, but this used to be the Guild's verse. I just love it. Just because we're young - most of us still teenagers - doesn't mean we can't live godly lives.
1 Timothy 4:16
16Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.
So what's Paul saying here? :/ Timothy will save himself and his hearers by watching his life and doctrine? Doesn't God save people? ...Don't really get this verse.
1 Timothy 6:10
10For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
Now, I'm not sure how Biblical it would be, but we could probably replace "money" in that verse with anything we struggle with. Maybe it'd be a good idea to do that and put it up somewhere you'll see it regularly, or somewhere you are around the house when you're most likely to sin. Like by your computer, or by your bed...
1 Timothy 6:12b
Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
Make your good confession in the presence of many witnesses. I'm kind of saying this more to myself than to anyone who happens to be reading this, but I guess we all need to take more of a stand at school/work/general life. Or maybe that's just me... I guess it helps to remind oneself that just giving up swearing/porn/masturbating/whatever isn't going to make an impact on non-Christians, especially if it's something private like porn or masturbation that you give up. God wants us to actively show them that we're Christians. To not just preach with our lives, but with our lips as well.
So, discuss. As I've already said, feel free to bring up anything else to do with 1 Timothy that crops into your head as well.
God bless.
