Details:
Soul stealers are amphibious cold blooded reptiles. They love warm, humid habitats with lots of fresh water, this mainly includes swamps, rainforests and glades. However some stealers are found in the desert where water is found deep within the earth.

Stealers survive in small packs, similar to lion prides, they have a large male and a group of accompanying females. The duties of males is to protect the young, since females do little for the raising of cubs, and to protect the packs territory. Males will ward off predators and threats with a large, and colourful display on his spine. His colouration will flare as blood is pushed through the membranes almost like his own personal northern lights without the luminescence. If the display does not work males have an arsenal of claws, horns, teeth, a whip-like tail and even a toxic bite.

Both males and females carry the poison, however their bite is more like an anticoagulant and their bacteria is full of infectious germs which combined leave little escape for a victim. The term soul stealer comes from survivors who noted a small bite from a stealer causes a feverish reaction and hallucinations, while the blood continues to flow. A large wound would either bleed you to death, drive you mad until you killed yourself by accident or the owund would become heavily infected with little chance of survival. This means the stealer is a terrible creature to come across.

However, due to the stealers soft frog-like skin it is vulnerable to dry conditions and must hydrate often. Almost like hippos stealers will home themselves near a water source and often swim or drink. They bathe themselves in mud to keep cool and sleep in deep burrows to escape the hot sun and sleep. During winter stealers hibernate and often keep jelly-like eggs below the earth with them.

Stealers will mate every spring and autumn and each female will lay roughly 2-8 fertile eggs, these eggs will hatch into tiny offspring and grow rapidly, tripling their size in almost a week. Cubs will feed from the males chewed meat until they can eat from a carcass on their own. Cubs do not become bioluminescent until they are old enough to mate. Females and males both choose when to leave the pack however females will often stay until stolen by a young male.

Socialization between stealers involves grooming, play fighting, hunting and vocalizations. Stealers vocalize in hisses, roars, purrs and clicks, similar to big cats and crocodiles. They will also mark the land with signs of occupance for example feces and gashes in the earth or trees to state that this area is owned. However rogue stealers struggle to survive especially with males due to their spine hunting can be awkward and females are happily made to kill.
