Rooftops.

Always. Rooftops.

Perhaps she was taking the coward's way, racing over the concrete high above the tar and nighttime pedestrians, leaping from rail to rail, letting the copper waves light her way as she scanned the city below her. A part of her head was in a fuss, fuming over what exactly she'd even do if she did find a trace of black in any of those waves. What if she ran into that damn Lt. Moonstone again, or another youma? Or a completely different Negaverse agent that used something more lethal than a mask? What, just blind and run again?

"Too bad I wasn't Yoda or Daredevil," she grumbled, pausing to stand and watch the life on the streets. "Wouldn't be so difficult to ask for fighting lessons if I could prove I could still kick their butts." A puff of air flew from her lips, fluffing her bangs out of her eyes. As silly as it all was... she was still patrolling. Still hopping around the buildings or through the park, still trying to train herself in dodging and flexibility - she hoped. Wasn't like braille books on such subjects were plentiful. Hell, was there anything she could use? Audio books? Maybe something online...

"At least being out here's fun."

Raja was back at the school, snuggled into her doggy bed all safe and warm. If the canine knew what her mistress was up to each night after homework, she didn't show any increasing signs of worry or concern. Which was nice, especially considering how uneventful her evenings have been since meeting the girl in leather. Smacking her hands lightly against the guard rail, she pushed herself off and into a jog, picking up speed as she neared her chosen leap point. Onto the rail, focus, kick off, stretch out your legs, aaaaaaand~ land! Continue on. Or play solo tag around the air vents up here for a little "training," okay, sure. Just don't let your boots dent the vents when you kick towards them. Better yet, don't actually hit them. Looking like a fool to keep from making too much noise is a-o-kay!

Wasn't like anyone was seriously going to see her up here.

Sailor Iris did not do rooftops.

At all.

One, it had never come to mind, and two, even if she had thought about it, there was that fear of falling. It was a lesser form of her fear of riding in her plane, since a couple stories was a much shorter fall than a few thousand (or however high airplanes flew) story fall. However, it wasn't like being on rooftops was an absolute requirement of being a Sailor Scout.

So rather than patrolling over the city, the blonde patrolled through the city. She wove through the streets and alleyways, making her rounds while avoiding the police. It all was pretty exciting and got one's heart pumping. The only thing that would have made this all better was if she had been able to ride her motorcycle around as she patrolled. That would unfortunately be begging for attention that she didn't want, which would only result in a high speed chase that would end badly for herself. She still didn't have a license after all. A normal girl without a license wasn't as hard to catch, but a Sailor Scout on a motorcycle was like flashing signs of "please arrest me!" There was that, and considering the Youma had a bad reputation for breaking things, Sailor Iris wasn't exactly about to risk the Spectrum's safety.

For a moment, as she wandered past a trash bin in one of the alleyways, she couldn't help but look up towards the sky. Maybe it was out of boredom, or maybe it was just out of a need to look at something other than bricks. Either way, as she looked above, she managed to catch a glimpse of something jumping overhead. It was too dark to really see very well.

Being the ever concerned citizen she was, she rolled her shoulders into a shrug and went back to what she had been doing.

So she was being a nerdy little nut, lashing her high heels out in such a way that, in Imagination Land, she was able to land the sharp boots to someone's gut or knock out their knees. Or rather... smack someone's hips and thighs, since she was so not flexible enough even in Senshi form to get a gut shot yet. And while kicking someone's knees wasn't a difficult feat, if she'd be strong enough to do any damage was questionable.

It was fun though! Wasn't a strict training regiment, but at least she could feel her muscles loosening bit by bit, and hey. Just wandering without anything to do but jump around the buildings was... not so much fun. Cool. Just not... fun.

Metis got caught in the moment, fighting invisible enemies in her head, pretending they were fleeing, off over to another building. Of course it wasn't like the energy waves were shifting around this imaginary being, but she could act like they were. Grinning, she sprinted after it, up and over the rail and through the air over the alley below like it was a game of hopscotch. But- wait. What? When she landed, she immediately stopped, noting just how much stronger the copper waves bounced around the area here. Someone was nearby? It could have just been a bum - the alleyways were always a tad bit brighter when they were down there, just more waves to add to the collective swirling around her mental eye. But something made her look anyways. Just to make sure.

...bums don't have white tendrils flickering through their auras.

Her attention perked, squinting uselessly to try and focus the image. No use. Her eyes had no even remote control over what she was seeing, meaning that copper figure was just going to stay a copper figure unless she got close. Then she might be able to pick out whatever faded details her wacko vision would allow her to see.

So what does the smart girl do? Jump down and introduce herself and generally show herself to not be a threat? Nope. No, try staying on the roofs, and following. From above. What? Rooftops were safer. Besides, didn't take her forever to catch up, walking generally along side the unknown Senshi as she tried to pick out general details. Long hair. It was hard to make out from that angle but... something seemed kind of familiar about it. And... whoa. Was that long thing... the girl's butt bow? Wow. Huh. Pretty.

There was nothing exciting about following Sailor Iris while she patrolled. At absolute best, she'd jog on occasion. She wandered through alleyways, and occasionally her pathway looped back to the main street, which she'd cautiously check for cops before risking a short distance along the sidewalk. Every time she made it back to the street, she'd always return to the alleys after a quick time. Sailor Iris had assumed if she walked the streets too long in the open, some civilians would probably assume she was a prostitute trying to get some extra attention. Or some idiot would call and report her to the cops. Out of the two possibilities, she actually disliked the prostitute idea more.

As she continued along her strange and unplanned pathway, she couldn't help but get that feeling you were being followed. Obviously, they weren't doing it on the ground, because there really wasn't anyplace to hide behind her. Not being one for mind games, she just flat out shouted "Hey, whoever th'hell y'are! If y'got somethin' t'say, stop followin' me like a coward an' come talk t'me!"

Screw the rest of the world if they heard her. Rest of the world could suffer her loudmouth. The end.

It was weird to think she was having more fun goofing around on her own than trailing someone. Trying in vain to focus her magical vision was proving impossible, unless giving her a slowly building headache counted for something, but hey... at least she got that much out of the situation? Never mind still wanting to know who this other senshi was.

Keeping up wasn't a problem, and it seemed even being quite was a relatively easy task. But getting the answer to her question was, apparently, going to be impossible from up here. She could see the vague outline of a fire escape a little further ahead - maybe she should head down and just introduce herself?

...or just wait till the girl calls out. Yeah. That works too.

Metis jumped, hand flying to her floundering heart. Her mind racing at the fact she was... not as stealthy as she thought she'd been -crap crap crap crap! Go down now, stay up here, what if I get attacked? Can she even see me? Crap crap crap crap-, it took her a moment to place why she was getting heavy familiarity vibes from that voice. Chock it up to being blind, you don't get faces to remember, you get voices and sometimes smells, and that's about it to tell the difference between an old friend and a stranger on the street. "S-Sailor Iris?" she called down hesitantly, panicked expression fading into a grin, completely ignoring the fact the girl'd just called her a coward. The only other Senshi Metis had met, and she stumbles upon her in the city this time. Nice!

"Fancy seeing you around here." The laughter in her voice was two-fold. Oh yay someone she knows, and hey, no risk at having to worry about someone thinking she's an enemy! If there was one thing she needed to be mindful of, it was her vision didn't require daylight or lamps. Everyone else's? Yeah. Doesn't always work in her favor.

Obviously this person calling back to her knew who Sailor Iris was. Problem was, Sailor Iris was not exactly as certain about the person who called out to her. The voice was familiar, but unlike Metis, the blonde was more of a faces person. And since there was a lack of a face at the moment, she was a bit stuck for a reaction.

"Okay, so ya obviously know who I am... why don'tcha come down 'ere so I can stop shoutin'?!"

The senshi of rainbows stood there, arms crossed with a puzzled expression on her face. Her golden eyes were looking in the direction of the other voice, but she still couldn't make out who was following her.

"Wha- Oh!" She gave herself a light tap on her forehead, getting a question answered while looking like even more of an idiot. "Just... ah... hold on." Her boots clicked her way briskly over to the fire-escape, softly cursing the distinct lack of life energy in the alley. What little she had could allow her to see Iris and some of the general shapes of obstacles, sure, but telling the difference from black buildings and black metal was... proving to be rather difficult at the moment.

Praise be to the forces that be that allowed Senshi that nice light jump. She rather happily skipped fighting with heels and skirts on the ladders, hopping down one level, then two, and so on until she hit the ground. Turning to the fellow scout, she held up her hand in a small wave, smile returning. "This better?"

One thing was growing painfully obvious to Sailor Iris. Whoever this was talking to her was friendly at least. Someone who was fighting on the opposite team wouldn't have been so eager to join her. In fact, they probably would have stayed on the rooftop to have the advantage.

So as patiently as a Sailor Iris could wait, Sailor Iris waited. Of course, she had her arms crossed and her left foot started to tap slightly during the wait. Was this chick trying to take her time? The moment such a thought passed through her mind, the girl jumped into view.

For a moment, a look of "Oh, I know who this is" spread across Iris' face, but then a big grin eventually tugged at the corners of her mouth.

"Oh sh*t! It's Metis!" She walked forward in a familiar fashion and reached out a hand for a handshake. If she had been more familiar, she might have tried a large pat on the shoulder, despite how much girls tended to dislike such a gesture.

Keeping up the familiar tone, she couldn't help but point out something she had heard from Moonstone. "Last I heard, y'were playin' 'Dare Devil!'" That was exactly how she had heard it, and all she was doing was repeating what she had heard.

Had she been back at Crystal, the swear would have made her blanch and wonder what was wrong with the world now. Out here, in that context, she just laughed, grasping the offered hand in a welcomed greeting. Heck, the language was pretty refreshing after dealing with all the formalities of school all day! "The one and only!" Her hand fell to link with the other behind her back, standing casual and at ease. Hm. Though... something seemed really different about Iris' aura... there was that giant bow for starters.... "What happened to your unifor-"

Hold. Up~!

"Wait - what?" Her attention bolted from figuring out the changes in the details within the copper to staring with wide eyes at the other's face. Considering she'd said she wished she was Daredevil before and now this just dumbfounded her. "Where... exactly did you here that?" Slowly, a grin began to slip onto her lips. It wasn't coy, or general happy... no, this one was... quite different for Miss Metis. In fact, one could say it was running pretty damn close to cocky. "Interesting choice of super hero, though." If the blonde didn't hear it from her mouth before... who the hell was calling her that?

Standing there, bold and eyes dancing at the irony of the night... something felt... odd. Maybe it was being down in the darker alley, but she felt like there was something in the... air? Nothing was standing out in her vision, no new energies to add to the mix. She allowed her mental eyes to peer down the alley from where Iris had come. Surely if there was something else, she would have seen it from the rooftops...

Sailor Iris had heard the partial question. She chose to ignore it for now to address the other issue.

"Heard it from Moonstone 'erself. She was pretty tough, so how'd ya hold up 'gainst her?" Based off how her conversation with the Negaverse lieutenant had gone, the Senshi of Rainbows had assumed that the Sailor Scout in front of her had lost the fight. She wasn't going to say that aloud though, since again, she didn't exactly get any sort of statement 100% verifying such a notion. Her handshake, as usual, was quite firm, and once the action was completed, the Super senshi took her hand back.

And before the girl answered again, the blonde added "And the outfit's gay, I know! Apparently the more powerful y'become, the frillier yer outfits get. It's like all practicality goes out th'window. This damned bow is more of an inconvenience than anythin'!" As if to prove how much she disliked this current uniform, Sailor Iris did something that only she would dare to do. She turned and grabbed onto one of the tails of her ribbon and promptly began to rip it off. The other ribbon tail shortly followed, the ripping sound echoing very gently off the walls. When she finished, she held out one of the two ribbon tails.

"If any more of those 'Negaverse' creeps were 'round, they'd have this much of an advantage 'gainst me if they got me from behind. All they'd have t'do is grab on and yank, and they'd have me where they want me."

With that, the tomboy dropped the ribbon tail, letting them drift to the floor.

This was interesting indeed. Turning her attention back to Iris from the alley, her brow lifted in silent question before her vocals kicked in once the uniform explanation (and mutilation) was complete. "Reminds me of woman's armor in fantasy settings - the stronger it is, the less there is. Unpractical, I'll agree with you on that." She lifted a hand to her mouth, trying somewhat at least to hide the snicker as the bow was held aloft. "At least it... looks nice?" Inwardly, Metis was rather excited about the prospect of her attire changing further. Somehow though, she doubted that'd gain her any brownie points with the tougher senshi.

The subject of the Negaverse, however, brought back to mind the previous statement and.... slightly edged question. "If any such creeps were around... I blind them, you lasso them, and we call it a night?" She gave a shrug. "You've seen me fight, if you want to call it that. Moonstone landed a solid hit with that mask of hers on my shoulder, I blinded her, and left her wailing curses and tears on the rooftop." Metis scowled at the memory, arms crossing in mild annoyance. "Though to be honest, I wish I'd been able to do more than just that."

That feeling from before was growing, and again she looked back down the alley. She still couldn't see anything - their combined waves let her make out the shape of a garbage dumpster. She could hear a small scratching sound coming from within it - a rat maybe.

...though... Metis glanced around them, frowning now. "Iris... is it just me, or are things just a little too quite in here?" The few stray animal auras she'd seen before were gone now, all signs of life emanating from them, and whatever was in the dumpster. The hairs on the back of her neck stood up as she peered at it. There was defiantly something moving around within it. The copper energy bounced off the metal bin, and as she watched, a rusty creaking sounded out as one half of the lid began to open. Her breath caught in her throat as new waves began to slither out of it.

Black waves. "...a... youma?"
PostPosted: Sun Jan 31, 2010 2:02 pm

Rather sharply, the Senshi of Rainbows made her viewpoint clear: "It looks gay! I feel like a f** fer wearin' it!"

At the explanation of the Metis versus Moonstone fight, the blonde scout casually paced, rounding the girl slightly as she listened. Her mouth was in a straight line, completely serious as she took in the full explanation. She caught the scowl on Metis' face, but she didn't comment yet.

"So you chicken sh*tted out on Moonstone like how Moonstone chicken sh*tted out on me?" This was Sailor Iris being kind. Sailor Iris actually was of the mindset that what Metis did was probably the worse of the situations. Moonstone at least had stayed long enough to get a few kicks and hits in. Moonstone ran away, but she had managed to nearly break Sailor Iris' nose (it hurt like hell, but at the time, using a poker face was her only defense). It didn't even sound like Metis had managed to get a swing in.

Where as Iris' voice was normally pretty lively, nearly friendly, with her current scolding, her voice just sounded harshly critical. "Stop wishin' an' do somethin' 'bout it, kid!" It was all too well timed, for then Metis mentioned how "quiet" it was now. Thinking it was a trick more than anything to get Iris away from this subject, she grabbed onto the other scout by the brooch and pulled her in close so she could look eye-to-eye with her. "Don't go changin' th'subject on me!"

Maybe the senshi of rainbows hadn't heard the tiny utterance of what was probably in the area, or maybe she was ignoring the squeak, since in all honesty, Sailor Iris did not see a damned thing. Youma always made their presence known. They were ugly, slobbering beasts of fail which needed to be put down! There was no way one would be in the alley, quiet and lurking.

No way at all.

She could have commented on how she hadn't "chicken shitted out" but rather played it smart since she had no fighting skills of which to speak of. At all. She could have commented how she wasn't the sporty type Iris obviously was, or if she really wanted to be a b***h, could have called the other scout a street rat or roughen or brute... not that doing so was characteristic to her, but in a brief moment of slow motion, the thoughts did spring up.

Until everything crashed back down to normal speed, her smaller hands clenched around Iris', empty eyes wide as they darted between where the other senshi's aura showed her face (in surprising detail this close up) and the growing mass of black aura behind her. "I'm not!" Technically this was a change in subject, though a connection could also be made that if she wanted to get better at fighting, making sure a fellow scout was aware of the enemy was a good place to start. "Damnit, Iris! Why would I be joking about something like this?" Seriously, who the heck would have such a horrible taste in humor?

More creaking, and the lid rose higher, slanting further and further up as the creature began to slowly emerge. The outline of the aura reminded her of a... rat's head? How fitting. A giant rat in a dumpster. Pests could get almost anywhere and rarely be noticed.... were the youma getting smarter, or was this one just pretty damn accurate towards the species it mimicked?

Turning back to the other girl, Metis' grip tightened further, though not out of fright. Her own eyes narrowed, dancing about in their inability to focus properly on her face. "Either let me go and help me kill this thing or I'll blind you along with it." One hand lifted to her tiara, energy gathering little by little within her palm.

It wouldn't dawn on her until later that this was the first time she'd ever threatened someone. Ever. And with the most ironic of all things, too.
PostPosted: Fri Mar 05, 2010 12:29 am

There was something slightly haunting looking Sailor Metis in the eyes like that. This girl's dulled green eyes almost seemed familiar in a sense, though the exact reason why they would seem familiar completely escaped her at the moment.

"You don't hang out with guys too often, do ya?" Guys had horrible senses of humor at times. She grinned, but soon enough that grin faded as Metis' tone changed. There was that, and that rather noticeable creaking sound. With a less than gentle shove, the taller girl released her momentary team mate.

"Do yer thing, kiddo and I'll seal the deal..." was all she'd get as a response. Sailor Iris walked forward and away from the suspected Youma, not turning around the entire time. It almost came across as if she was trying to act cool.

Under normal circumstances she'd be blinking and with the utmost curiosity ask why hanging out with guys would matter. Clearly a confession of "No, not really," on her part. Right now was hardly the time to focus on that though, instead remaining silent and glaring until Iris finally released her. Not the nicest of releases, but she wasn't going to complain. "Thank you," came her own little reply, attention shifting fully to the sneaky rodent as it loomed out of its hiding spot. It was snarling - she could smell its breath, most definitely was having a snack in there, ugh - and looked like it was bunching itself up to jump out at them.

Not that she'd let it get much accuracy, of course. The orb was at its fullest in her hand, time to get this show on the road. "Mind's Eye Flash~!" Out shot her hand, out flew the orb as it separated into many, smacking the youma in a collective large bright flash. It yelped and clawed at its eyes. That, along with the now white strobe in its aura, was all the sign she needed to back the hell up, keeping her eyes on the youma as she did. She hadn't even noticed yet the other scout hadn't bothered to look at the thing yet, but could quite easily feel the uneasy tension in the air between them. Being called 'kiddo' was hardly something to ease this, either. She was seventeen, damnit!

Once she reached the place Iris had gone to, she halted, waiting, still silent and unsure of what to say to not invoke her wrath again. So she didn't say anything, only cross her arms before her to watch the match till she was needed further. Time to see what Super Sailor Iris could do.
