User ImageTwo years separated from their Grand and Glorious Leader and everyone Blitzwing had ever known had not been kind on his mind--and Blitzy's mind had never been what one might call "stable." He never knew when he might open his mouth and his father--red, with a deep voice like flesh being dragged swiftly across rough rock--might spring out; or when his other father, laughing constantly, always singing and swaying back and forth, would answer his packmates. The more he remained alone, the less of his cool, confident personality remained.

In those cool, confident moments, he was glad that he was not alone. He was glad for that big, shaggy-haired brander, Astrotrain. He had almost gotten used to doing all the scouting and hunting--he could now talk about it without his hotheadedness taking control of his mouth for more than a few seconds. Vere vould I be wizout him? the young Seeker wondered. Before he could put a lid on it, his random side of him giggled out loud and muttered, "Probably in crazy land! Viz ze Maximals!"

Blitzwing cursed inwardly. "Random Blitzwing" didn't know the definition of the word "murmured." The trees nearby echoed, and the deer herd ran away as swiftly as their fleet hooves could take them.

"What's that? Maximals around?" The shaggy Northern dragon quickly peeked out from behind a bush and searched around eagerly for an enemy that wasn't there. He should have known there weren't any around. He should have known it was simply Blitzwing's less stable, yet slightly more entertaining, personality blabbering on again. But the Seeker wasn't the only one with a few screws loose nowadays. Astrotrain was itching to to put his skills as a fighter or his branding magic to use and there simply wasn't anyone around for that. The few times he had tried to brand Blitzwing again things got a little nasty with the violent personality. That was when he had resorted to branding himself. But it just wasn't the same.

With a deep, heavy, aggravated sigh he moved around the bush and sat down next to Blitzy, "Great....Thanks for getting my hopes up again, Blitz. There aren't any Maximals around to beat up and the deer ran off. Doesn't that crazy know when to keep your big mouth shut?" He was pretty much just rambling at this point, the only way, he had learned, to let off some steam short of physical confrontation with the other dragon. Which, though he at times felt would be far more satisfying, wouldn't do him much good in the long run.

Blitzwing wasn't even surprised when he roared back as hard as his short-fur dragon lungs could go, "YOU SINK I DID NOT SINK OF ZAT?! I CAN'T CONTROL MYSELF!" It was so expected that he didn't even bother to cover for himself anymore. "Ze deer will return later," he added smoothly. "We will simply have to follow them. And I did no worse zere zan you have done whenever you have tried hunting." That was when Blitzwing wanted to slap himself. Astrotrain was his only memory of home, and he couldn't afford to alienate him like this. They were friends in everything but consciously stated words.

It is true, zough, that Astro has never had a knack for hunting. Every time he had tried to teach the lumbering brander to hunt, it had ended in a scattering of prey much like the one they had just witnessed. Eventually Blitzwing had given up and opted to take the hunting duties upon himself. "I will do better when next we find prey," he said firmly.

Astrotrain kept a blank face as his companion shouted at him with intense rage. It was expected and the northern dragon took nothing from it. He never paid any mind to the words of the "Hothead" personality of Blitzwing because they were usually just meaningless rants. However, he tried to pay mind to the things Icy Blitzwing said. If he wasn't saying something important then he was saying something truthful and this case was no different.

With a snort he stated matter-o'-factly, "That's only because this muscle was built for fighting, not hunting." He puffed up, making his already rather bulky form even larger to emphasize his point. Astrotrain probably would have laughed in Blitzwing's face had he know the other was concerned with alienating him by remarking on his poor hunting skills. Had his abilities as a soldier or brander, the things he actually took pride in, come into question he certainly would have reacted differently though.

He scooted ahead of the smaller dragon, nosing at the ground and grabbing for the deers' scent, "Guess it's back to tracking the meat. If we don't catch something soon I'll end up as skinny as you."

The idea of his massive companion as small as a thin-furred dragon sent Blitzy into gales of hysterical giggles. He couldn't help but say back to him, "Oh, sure you could be skinny, Ahnold Astro! I've heard of zis wonderful new diet, you'll lose five pounds in sree days! Ahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!" Astro was a big dragon; Blitzy doubted that he could be as skinny as he was even after death and decomposition. I'd be able to crawl into his ribcage at zat point!

The laughter drained abruptly out of Blitzwing's throat at that thought. Astrotrain was all he had left, and if he were to die...Blitzy simply couldn't think of that. With the silliness purged from him, he sniffed at the tracks, pulling the prey's scent into his nose and closing his eyes briefly. "We can't have zat," he said with deceptive calm. "Ze deer will not go far, I sink. Zey did not have enough food here. And even if we do not catch zem, we can probably break some ice and get some fish in ze stream." That was a gamble. In winter, fish would be hard to catch. The deer were their best bet. Blitzwing got to his paws and trotted off after the deer, his tail unconsciously brushing Astro's shoulder.

((*snort* Ahnold...that fit all too well. XD))

"Yeah, well unlike some of you guys, I like my husky size, thank you." Astro rolled his eyes with this comment and had every intention of jabbing the other with a claw when he came near, but the sudden disappearance of laughter from his vioce quickly dismissed that idea. Sure, Blitzwing switched personalities at the blink of an eye, but even that was a suspiciously quick change. Just as Blitzy went about covering his feelings with a cool attitude, Astro did the same with his own nonchalant one.

"Bah, fish. They're even more obnoxious to catch than deer this time of year." With a grumble, he took off after his companion, staring at his tail as it trailed against him then took its place ahead of him. He lagged behind just a bit to give a concerned look, too distracted by that concern to take a silent pleasure in the unintentional touch like he might have. After two years of being around Blitzwing, even the slightest discrepancy in his personalities was noticeable and this one...worried him. He wasn't sure why, but it did. He'd never admit it out loud for fear of sounding like a pansy, but Astro really cared about Blitzy and if something was bothering him he wanted to know what it was. And preferably beat the snot out of whatever it was as well.

((Astro, I love you.))

"I did not say zat zere is anysing wrong wis your size, Astrotrain," Blitzwing murmured quietly as he slipped through the underbrush. "I merely commented zat at your size, it is difficult to imagine you not being as muscled as you are." He could feel it coming. It was coming, and try as hard as he might, he couldn't stop it from coming out. He could only try not to laugh so loud. "You don't need to work out to look good, you big, buff beauty, ahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!"

Blitzy's face turned red, red as Astro's eyes, at this last comment. His own eyes were wide, and he faltered a little in his step. Where in spark's name did ZAT come from?! What am I saying?! His spark was pulsing faster; he pushed on it, willing it to slow down as his mind raced faster and faster to figure out what he was saying, or why he was acting so strangely. His personality flips were getting odder and odder today--he had complimented other dragons, but commenting on their muscular system like this?! He squeezed his eyes shut and said quickly, "I apologize, Astro. I guess I'm hungry, and zat is why I am acting so strange. I don't know what's gotten into me. Let's go." Still embarrassed, his skin flaming beneath his fur, he sped up and loped ahead of Astro, half of him hoping to get away.
PostPosted: Wed Mar 17, 2010 11:06 am

Yup. Something was definitely up with Blitzwing. He didn't apologize for the things his random side said, not any more. They had both eventually agreed that that personality was completely bonkers and whatever it said was only to be taken as amusement, if not ignored altogether. So why was Blitzy apologizing now? Sure, this was a bit different from most of the things Random said, but Astro would have just ignored it had the normal Blitzwing not acted so out of character. Hell, he probably would have taken it as a meaningless compliment and flaunted his newly inflated ego just to humor the crazy personality.

And that hungry excuse wasn't cutting it either. They had been hungry before but Blitzwing had never acted so...so fragging weird! It was bothering Astro to no end and the fact that Blitzy was now speeding up, almost as if he were trying to get away, wasn't helping either. But Astro wasn't the type to pry, no matter how miffed he was about Blitzy's weirdness, so he simply picked up speed to keep up with his companion, muttering in a slightly darker tone than he usually used, "Then let's hurry up and get some food already..."

Perfectly plausible. After all, hunting will take my mind off my...actions like nussing else will. That's what Blitzy kept telling himself. A nagging thought at the other end of his mind had been listening to the crazy side too much lately, though; and that worried him. What if he started randomly popping out more often? What if he started acting crazier and crazier, even when he would normally act cool and confident? He didn't have control over himself unless he was...well, cold. While he'd learned to live without control, it was still his preferred state of being. But the more he thought about it, the more he began to probe at that thought at the back of his mind. And he was worried about what he found.

Because there was something attached there. Something attached to Astro. Not so much worried as...well, a little bit scared. And anxious. Stop zat! he scolded himself. We're supposed to be hunting! We can't stop to worry about...random emotions zat may or may not be causing us to say randomness wiss reason! We have to hunt! With a shake of his body to banish his thoughts away, Blitzy scented the air. The deer were nearby. He settled in a crouch, motioning with his tail for Astro to do the same.
PostPosted: Mon Mar 22, 2010 4:53 pm

Instinctively, Astro hunched down as soon as Blitzy's tail moved. After seeing that same movement for so long he didn't need to think about what to do any more, it came naturally. This meant his train of thought didn't have to be broken, he could concentrate completely on what the hell was wrong with Blitzwing.

With all the strange things he was saying and the unusual movements, he could almost see the other dragon arguing with himself. Astro could only imagine what the hothead would be yelling while normal Blitzy tried to reason with him, only to be interrupted by the random personality. He began to wonder if it actually worked like that, like a three-way conversation. Something like that must get unbearable at times. Maybe that was the problem, maybe Blitzwing was just frustrated with his other personalities. This made him frown, it was something he couldn't really help with. Had it been another dragon, Astrotrain could have just gone and given said dragon a piece of his mind. But Blitzwing's other personalities? He couldn't beat them up without beating Blitzwing himself up and that didn't seem like it would really help.

He watched silently as his companion slipped through the forest towards the deer, leaving him behind to ponder over the situation.

With the smell of the deer in his nostrils, Blitzwing could put aside all thoughts of Astrotrain and concentrate on keeping them both fed. Slowly, as silently as he could, he crept to the edge of the clearing where the deer were feeding on grass. After watching large cats and adapting their hunting techniques, he had learned to hunt the big prey by himself. After all, Primus dragons were nothing if not adaptable.

Stay back. Wait in the shadows to get close to your prey. A female at the back with a limp in a back leg seemed likely prey. Blitzy quietly crept around to the other side, keeping to the undergrowth, hoping that it would not rustle. When he had, patiently, gradually, reached the individual he had chosen, he sprang at her. Startled, the rest of the herd began to move, but by that point, as did the luckless doe. Too late! For both of them, it nearly turned out. Instead of landing on her back, as he had planned, he just barely landed on her hindquarters. With a kick to his ribs, she took off as fast as she could with her limp.

As quickly as he could, Blitzwing caught her by her uninjured leg and she was left behind by her comrades to kick and flail helplessly at her attacker. For his part, in between dodging the blows, the Seeker grinned past her and swiped his claws against her belly. "Ashtrotren! C'm her, hewp!" He closed his eyes and struggled to keep his head out of the way.

All the while Astrotrain had been deep in thought over the behavior of his companion and what possible solutions he could come up with. If the problem really was an internal struggle with his inner selves Astro knew he couldn't do anything to fix the problem, but maybe he could at least help it. Maybe he could find some way to distract Blitzy's mind from those troublesome personalities and give him some kind of a break. After all, Blitzwing was all he had left and if those other personalities drove him even more insane than he already was there was no telling what would happen. Knowing how each personality was, Astro imagined the cool one would thing himself a nuisance to the larger dragon and probably leave, the hothead would probably try to start a fight and who knew how the random one would react.

Now the only question was how to do that exactly. What would get Blitzy's mind off of something that was in his mind? The normal Blitzwing was always such a strict and structured dragon and Astro was...well, just about the complete opposite of that. How was he supposed to know what would distract a dragon like that from voices that constantly fought for control over him? Just as he was beginning to wrack his brain for answers he heard a muffled call and knew instantly that dinner was served.

Quickly, he got to his feet and darted to his companion, all previous thoughts tucked away for the time being to be replaced with hunting instincts. As he reached Blitzy and the doe, Astro made his way up to her head and, while avoiding any flying hooves, placed a paw on her head, swiftly putting an end to her struggle with a powerful bite to the neck. He kept his jaws around the deer for a few moments after, ensuring that she was completely gone. Finally they had a meal, which meant less empty bellies and one less excuse Blitzwing could use for his odd behavior if it continued.

Blitzy gave a sigh of relief as, after a brief increase in struggles, the deer's kicking ceased. He slowly released the leg and shook himself out, wincing as he felt bruises forming on his face, including one on his eye. He was going to have a black eye soon, and that brought out Hothead before Blitzwing could give any thought to thanking his companion. "You klutz!! You couldn't have come earlier?! What were you doing, chasing butterflies?!" However, he had been soothed by the routine of the hunt. Blitzwing nodded gratefully to Astro and stepped back a little. "Dinner is served," he murmured. "After you." Almost as an afterthought, he added in Random Blitzwing's cackle, "Bon appetit, ahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!"

Yes, it was a good thing Astro was around. For all the shaggy-haired brander was no hunter, he was still useful--for one thing, he still knew how to kill, as he'd demonstrated. We're keeping ourselves ready for any danger--perhaps for any battles we might face if and when we meet up wiss ze ozers. That was a cheery thought, as was the thought that they would be full soon. At least for a day or two. That gave him time to think about that little tug in his mind that was attached to Astrotrain.

It was uncomfortable--quite uncomfortable, and awkward as well! Astro was, well, he was a tough guy, and good-looking to boot. Well, that was part of the problem, wasn't it? But surely there were plenty of femmes that would find him attractive. He could hardly imagine Astro being...well, slag it all, Blitzwing was beginning to fall in love with Astrotrain. There. He had put it in words. Didn't make him feel all that better. It made him worried. Astro was a many male, and he doubted that a handsome manly male such as Astro would ever fall for another male, especially one with crazily fluctuating personalities such as his. I shall have to be his friend, he thought sadly. And wingman, should he ever need it. And he will. Before he could put a lid on his emotions, Random Blitzwing interrupted with a sorrowful sigh.
PostPosted: Thu Mar 25, 2010 10:55 pm

Removing the deer's neck from his mouth, Astrotrain stood up straight and stared at the kill. A deer was a rather small meal to split between two dragons, especially when one was a rather large northern dragon. With any luck though, they would manage another kill soon. A part of him wished he was a small mountain dragon like Blitzy, that way he wouldn't need as much food as he did and Blitzy wouldn't have to hunt as much. But then again, he wouldn't be as an effective soldier if he was and Astro wouldn't be happy with that. How would he keep Blitzy out of trouble if any were to pop up?

Mentally, Astro told himself to shut up and just eat. All this thinking wasn't like him and if he wasn't careful his brain might explode or...something. As he went to tear open the doe's abdomen his ears caught the sigh of the other and stopped instantly. He turned to him with a slightly concerned look, a bit too tough to show exactly how worried her was, "You alright, Blitz? You've been acting kinda weird today..." He hoped this would offend him or make the weirdness even worse.

"WHY WOULD ANYSING BE WRONG?!" But that wasn't true. Astro knew it, and Blitzy knew it. For some reason, it was starting to come out today. Who knew how long it would last, trying to keep it a secret? Not long. Astro will figure it out, and zen everysing will be awkward. We'll never be comfortable togezer, and zen where will we be? We have no one else but each ozer. Best to keep it quiet, where it won't cause...issues. "I do not know why I am acting strange today," Blitzwing sighed. Well, it was only a half-lie, right? "I apologize for unsettling you, however." He could feel Random trying to take control. Before he could start acting oddly, he bit his tongue. The pain was enough to keep Icy in control for a little while longer.

You should have somesing to eat. That's what Blitzy wanted to say. But in the pain of his bitten tongue, it seemed he had swung too far, and he found himself shouting, "NOW EAT YOUR FOOD BEFORE IT GETS COLD!!" which, on reflection, sounded like Hothead and Random had ganged up on him. Primus, help me! "We wouldn't want you to starve, now would we? Zen where would we be?" He smiled at his friend and touched his tail lightly to Astro's flank, hoping that his hot pink eyes were as calm as always.
