User Image"Show us the meaning of the word haste," he said! To her, of all people! He was talking to Estarcia's lead spy, after all! Felicia couldn't disappoint, after that order. So, with a bow and a smile, she sprinted out of the throne room, trying to figure out the best way to reach the neighboring country.

Of course, as her steps brought her to one of the many beautiful, snow-coated plazas in Archesis, she began to become less enthusiastic. She hardly ever went anywhere near Learania, so she hardly knew any shortcuts or anything like that! So, she stood in the snow, fumbling in her various pockets for a piece of paper: a map, to be precise.

I'm here, I want to go... here. Eyris. Those mountain won't help. With the weather how it is, I'd probably die, if I tried to cross those. And even then, my legs probably can't take an international sprint! She whined, looking up to the sky in disgust. And of course, the skies replied with a boost to her spirits. A screech echoed through the air as a bird swooped down from one of the many towers of the castle, perching itself in Felicia's hair, much to her chagrin.

"Eeeek!" she shouted, until she realized just what was latching onto her person. When the realization struck, she couldn't help but squeal, and jump up and down like a child. "Oh, Arlie, there you are! I was so worried!" Her worry was hardly visible, though, with her elated expression. As she cooed to the bird like it was a baby, Felicia didn't even register the man who was standing directly behind her, with grin the amused grin.

"Nice to see you, Milady."

She jumped, sending her companion flapping off in a wide arc as she turned around. Her expression became even happier, though it hardly seemed possible. "Ferdy!" She nearly tackled him, giving her the closest thing to a bear hug she could muster. "You're okay, too!"

"I take it your meeting with His Majesty went well?"

"Well, kind of. He's ordered me to travel to Learania to ask for their aid..." She looked gloomily down at the snow, until Ferdinand raised her chin to match their gazes.

"Chin up, Madam, you've been through worse!" His words were reassuring, until his tone turned more towards negativity. "But, I do regret your assignment. I'd just ordered a carriage to-"

"A carriage! Genius! Whatever you had planned, Ferdy, forget it!" Felicia giggled, giving a false glare at her subordinate, who only groaned and pointed down a road, likely in the direction of the carriage. "We're going to Learania!" The general followed her subordinate's lead, and soon the two found themselves in a carriage, leaving Archesis at top speed. Sure, she might have been able to go a little faster than a carriage, but this let her keep her stamina. If she had to run all the way to Eyris, she'd surely have to take multiple breaks, in the cold. And she'd start sweating after a while, which would just be a terrible experience for her pride.

After a bit of bickering between Ferdinand and Felicia, they soon settled on a route: south to Pentheus, and then northeast by foot to Eyris. During their ride, Ferdinand took it upon himself to give his commander a briefing on the country's political structure, since she always seemed to be going on about puppies any time it came up. It didn't take anywhere near as long for her to ride the carriage to Pentheus than it did for her to run from that field to the capital. And once the pair had made it onto Learanian lands, and out of that progress-impeding-but-beautiful forest, they were able to reach Eyris in no time at all.

As soon as Felicia and Ferdinand set foot inside the town, Felicia pinpointed the castle. It wasn't very hard to find, what with it being a castle amidst buildings. But, before she made her way there, she made sure to give Ferdinand his assignment: scope out a few nice places to eat, a few nice inns, and get a few souvenirs! Felicia regretted not visiting Learania earlier, since Eyris was such an interesting little town. Why, she thought she'd seen a person with cat ears!

The second that Ferdinand left her sight, Felicia made a beeline through alleys and such to reach the castle's gate. In front of it were two bland looking guards. Their armor wasn't anywhere near as pretty as the guards for her capital. But, maybe they sacrificed pretty armor for extra skill, or something. She approached the men, sizing each one up, before taking an authoritative stance. She contemplated a more seductive one, but flirting with the guards likely wouldn't benefit her, today. Plus, she didn't say that Ferdy could flirt with any of the women in town, so it didn't seem fair.

"Hey, I need to see the..." Her mind backtracked to her subordinate's help as she tried to remember whatever word they used for "the king" in this country. "...Captain, that's right. I need to see the country's Captain! I'm an... emissary? Ambassador? I'm an important person from the neighboring nation of Estarcia, and I've got very important things to discuss with your... Captain, that's it."

A calm day, a cold day, a bland day. Nothing much had happened, save Vice Captain Rath actually coming out into the city. Then suddenly some girl claiming to be from Estarcia and who said she had things to talk about with the Captain was here? And she was... very orange. An orange ninjalike girl. ...Odd.

After hearing the girl speak, the two guards did nothing for an awkward amount of time. They simply looked at her. Eventually, they turned their heads and looked at each other and one slowly nodded once, before they turned back to looking at the girl.

There was another few second pause. "Unfortunately, the acting Captain is not here, at the moment" One said.

Another pause. "...Would you like for somebody to be sent out to find him?" the other added.

User ImageFelicia groaned quite loudly in exasperation. Her hopes of finding a glorious, enjoyable capital city that wasn't Archesis were fading, quickly! She was loving Eyris so much, too, and then slow guards had to go and try to ruin it!

"What do you mean, he's not here?" she hissed, throwing her arms up in disgust. "What kind of king goes out and leaves the castle in the middle of the day?" What was he doing, having afternoon tea with a catgirl? Felicia gave herself a mental laugh with the thought, imagining some prim and proper man with a monocle having tea and crumpets with some girl in a flowery skirt with kitty ears. She really loved her imagination, sometimes. "Yeah, go get him, if you wouldn't mind..." she sighed, hanging her head. If she went to go find a man she didn't know (in name or appearance), she'd just waste valuable time. ...maybe she could get him to recommend a few nice places, though...

The guards were silent while the girl spoke and remained that way for a few seconds after she had finished speaking.

"...Very well." One said, before slowly turning and going inside to send out a scout. There was an awkward pause as he made his way.

As the one guard moved, the other remained still, looking at the girl. "...Come with me. You can wait inside" he finally said, before also turning slowly and walking inside.

Once they entered, a soldier on horseback suddenly darted out from the stables, and began to ride down the street. Estarcia's message would soon be heard.

User ImageThe guards were oh so very slow, in front of this castle. But, they were going to send someone out to find their boss, and- Woah, someone on a horse! They were working surprisingly fast, for as slow as she thought they were.

As Felicia was ushered inside, she couldn't help but be a little surprised. The castle was so much smaller than the one at Archesis, but it still didn't look too bad on the inside! ...and then she got impatient.

"...So, how long will I have to wait...?"
PostPosted: Thu Jan 21, 2010 10:13 am

"..." The guard did not turn to face the Estarcian, once they had entered the castle. He just kept slowly walking forward. "...This way."

The guard led the girl through the castle; up stairways, around corners, all the time walking a tad slowly. Eventually, he stopped and turned to open a door, and stepped aside for the girl to walk in. Inside was a long table with a fair number of chairs around it, and a larger one at the far end. The guard had led this girl to the conference room.

After seeing that the girl had entered, the guard turned and looked at her for a moment. "...Wait here." The guard then left the room and began his walk back to the front.

--------------------

After the time it took to ride through the streets, Rath eventually made it back to the castle. He had a brief word with the guard out front and discovered that the messenger had been brought to the conference room. That was a very reasonable place to bring her. Had the nomad been at home, he probably would have either heard her in his office or in that room. After being told where to go, Rath ordered for the horse to be returned to the stable, and then went inside.

He walked much more quickly than the guard had, and made it up to the conference room in half the time it had taken the guard. When he opened the door, the girl was the first thing that caught his attention. Rath looked her over briefly as he took a few steps inside the room, and kept all thoughts about the orangeness to himself. In his experience, Estarcians did not seem to be very practical, but appearance was not enough to be able to get a good idea of a person. Even without practicality, a message could still be delivered, anyway. And Rath had no intention of prolonging hearing it. "You must be the Estarcian... You have a message?"

User ImageFelicia was ushered into some room, with a big table and chairs. As she sat gracefully in one, she began to finally relax. She'd made it into the castle, and she was just waiting, now. It was clearly a meeting room of sorts, but she wondered if their higher-ups ever ate dinner on that table, during their late nights. It would be big enough for all of them, probably, and they'd be able to discuss important... matters involving whatever Learania did with their resources.

She'd have to do some "fieldwork" sometime. Felicia saw Mordache as too depressingly gloomy, what with the ugly swamps. Sentria was simply barbaric, with no law aside from one's own blade. And there's no way to be a tourist if you have to fight for your life. Adliana was... she didn't hate the nomads of the plains, but she didn't exactly care for them. A bit too high-strung for her tastes, some of them.

However, when she saw Rath enter the room, she felt a bit disappointed. He looked and dressed similarly to the prominent Adlians, hardly what she expected. When she heard "Captain" and "Guild" in the same sentence during her briefing, she imagined the man to be a stalwart, battle-hardened, blade coated warrior. Felicia saw the leader of a guild as the type to carve through enemies like a hot knife through butter, and still be able to be a rational leader. But maybe she wasn't giving the man a chance. Her coworkers had their share of odd quirks, and she didn't think too badly of them...

As she heard Rath finish his sentence, asking about a message, she took a brief moment, to figure out exactly how she was going to say it. Felicia had a brief doubt that he was actually the Captain, due to her imagination's meddling, but those guards wouldn't tell anyone other than the boss about her, right? And even if he wasn't the Captain, he knew about her, so she could likely trust him.

"Yes, I'm from Estarcia. I have a very... dire message." Felicia shifted uncomfortably, clearly feeling awkward about the entire conversation. Hopefully, she wouldn't mess up along the way. "Estarcia has been attacked by an unknown force, sir." She stood up, trying her hardest to hide her discomfort. "Our forces are stretched too thin, and the strength and numbers of the foe threaten to send His Majesty to his grave." She took a deep sigh, looking away from the man, out the window. When she looked back at Rath's gaze, the awkward feeling was there in full force, if not worse. "So... Estarcia wishes for Learania to aid it against this enemy, and compensation will be provided, should you accept." With the message relayed, Felicia gave a slight smile. She wanted to thank the man just for hearing her out, but decided to hold her tongue until he gave his decision.

After Rath had spoken, he went down to the larger chair within the room and took a seat. His manner was calm and easy going, despite being told that the message was important. Once he was settled, he looked up at the girl, as she had begun to speak.

Throughout the message, Rath's face remained unchanged. However, in his mind, thoughts were racing. This was something that had never happened before. He also recalled hearing from Isadora that she had called upon Estarcia for help once, and they declined. The story seemed very odd, as well. It did not make much sense. The identity of this girl was even unknown. Rath was not simply going to agree to such a far fetched plea.

Rath shut his eyes while he pondered, and then opened them a moment later. He looked at the messenger with a deep, slightly menacing gaze, ready to note any oddities from her. "Tell me... How is it that a force able to crush a world power appears out of nowhere, and their identity is unable to be seen?" Before the girl could answer, he spoke again. "Who are you? What proof have you that you speak for Estarcia's king?" He could tell that what he was saying was less than what the girl had hoped for, but he was not quite finished yet. "And also... why should we come to the aid of those who did not come to ours?"

Rath's eyes narrowed when he had finished, and awaited the girl's reply. Body language, shift in voice, all of these would be noticed. Rath was very observant. He would notice if this girl was lying.

User ImageDid he really... He did just question her! What a rude jerk! Felicia's brow furrowed, and she only glared at Rath while he kept talking. He... he didn't believe her! And even if he did...

Felicia groaned, looking up at the ceiling. "We couldn't identify them because they don't match any groups of soldiers that we've seen! I saw them!" She brought her hands in front of herself as she began to count on her fingers. "It's not Adliana, because the foe had wyverns. Hardly a method of combat they would seem like the type to use. It's not Sentria because they had cavalry, and what good would cavalry even do in a desert? Plus a bunch of brigands wouldn't be organized enough for that..."

Felicia smiled a bit, glad that she was able to hold her own. "And really, it couldn't be Mordache, since the enemy had nary a shaman or druid in sight. It's not you guys, they attacked from the north. And it surely isn't a bunch of Estarcians, or else there probably wouldn't be any problems." After all, Estarcia would know how its own military worked, and the weaknesses of each group. "So, you tell me, who do you think they could be?"

With her best attempt at eliminating all options for the foe's identity done, she turned to her next task: verifying that she was the voice of Estarcia's king. But... how could she do that? She was a spy, not an ambassador. "Well... I'm not so sure how I can prove that I am who I said I am..." It dawned on her that she didn't even introduce herself! What sort of manners would that reflect on Estarcia? But, she decided to put it off until shortly after, instead of introducing herself mid-sentence. Might make her seem like she was coming up with everything on a whim, or something. "I... In my 'line of duty,' I'm not supposed to have any way to be traced back to Estarcia, you see..." Hopefully, the man would accept that at face value, and not inquire further. She didn't quite know how she would react.

And here came the big one: why they should help. Felicia paused once more, trying to gather up a good reason that would sound appealing in a political sense. "...Well, I said that Estarcia would pay for your trouble. And... hm. Well, I'm not exactly privy to the full scale of international affairs, but if you help Estarcia, she would surely be in your debt. And... with as much money and resources that Estarcia has access to, would you really want to pass that up on something as simple as 'they didn't help us first'?"
PostPosted: Thu Jan 21, 2010 4:28 pm

Rath's eyebrows raised, when the girl finished her reply. She told no true fallacy, and it was clear that she answered on what she would know. Her knowledge of the nature of the other countries was accurate, and she even showed why the attackers could not be Learania. Depending on how the girl answered, Rath was going to bring it up that it could be them, for all they knew. Her explanation for it not being Mordache was shaky at best, though. Rath would not be willing to rule them out, so quickly. Still, presuming that it was Mordache would only bring about false countermeasures only suited for fighting them, and there was still the chance that they were not involved. "I'm fairly certain who I think it is would be irrelevant. Such claims would be mere speculation, anyway." Rath said that, of course, playing along with the claim of attackers being made a fact.

After replying to the girl's first response, Rath paused a moment. There was still nothing to prove that what this messenger said was true. Her explanation did reveal who she was, though. And that indirectly gave validity to everything else. "...Hm. So you are the one of them." Clearly, saying this would create confusion, so he continued, after pulling out a paper from inside his tunic. "Our guards at Pentheus spotted two unknown, shifty looking people riding in with a carriage. Once the two ran off, they inspected it and found the Estarcian royal seal embedded within it. I just received the message on my way here and looked over it. On my way inside, I saw a man clad to match the description of one of the people seen being led to a cell. Apparently he was skulking around our Hostess Club. I wonder if he would be a friend of yours..."

Now that he had a good ground upon believing that she was from Estarcia, an Estarcian spy no less, Rath could believe the message to be true. Estarcia was not a malicious country, it was more neutral than anything. Sending out a spy to lie would not happen, and as previously determined, this girl was not lying in what she said. The prospect of helping Estarcia would increase relations with the country, and Rath had been looking for something like that to happen. In his own mind, it was not Learania's business what happened to Estarcia. But, Rath thought about what Nino would do. She never let politics get in the way of what she wanted done. And she never would leave people who asked for help out in the cold. She felt that Learania had a moral obligation to help people, and so Rath would follow her wishes.

With a grin, Rath took his feet. "Very well... If Estarcia calls for aid... then Learania will answer. Send out a message to your country, and tell them that we are coming." Rath walked to the door, then turned back to face the girl. "I will make the arrangements now, and prepare our troops to move out. In the meantime, feel free to eat and rest... although, you may want to have your friend released from his cell, first." And with that blunt farewell, he turned slowly and left. His direction would take him into Vaida's domain.

User Image...He said that they were going to help! Felicia stifled a squeal, to at least try to save face in front of their savior. If she was screaming like a child who just got the best Christmas present ever, like, say, a Nintendo 64, then it would be embarrassing, to say the least. As she saw Rath begin to turn and leave the room, she only called out a simple "Thank you!"

But, she didn't want to keep him for any longer, he had troops to deploy! So, she crossed the room, opening a window at the far side. With a chuckle, she put two fingers to her lips, and whistled a loud, slightly shrill whistle. Moments later, a small speck in the skies above Eyris grew larger and larger, making its way to the window. While Arlette was making her way to Felicia, the spy was already penning a note for the King.

Made it to Learania alright, sir! The Captain of their ruling group has agreed to send troops to our aid, and is going to mobilize them as we speak.

However, Ferdinand and I are exhausted, and shall be taking a small reprieve in Eyris. But, when that ends, we shall make our way back to Archesis with utmost haste.

~ Felicia XOXO

With a relieved sigh, she tied the note to Arlette's leg with a thread from her pocket, before patting the bird a final time. As she shooed it away into the skies, she turned and began to leave the conference room. Felicia would have to find the jail, reason with the guards there, and then give Ferdinand a nice, stern talking-to, with lots of shopping on her part. A place called the Hostess Club? Just what was he doing there, to look so suspicious that he'd be taken into custody? Felicia laughed, shrugged it off, and closed the door to the conference room behind her. She would be more than relaxed, by the end of this busy day...
PostPosted: Thu Jan 21, 2010 6:11 pm

Now that Learania had confirmed that it would help, the first thing that needed to be done was to inform the Captain of the Guard so that all the troops could be prepared. Naturally, the guards needed for the various cities and homeland defense would have to stay. That and other issues would have to be clarified. Normally, Rath would send a guard to send for Vaida, but that would take too long, for this matter.

It did not take very long to arrive at the Guard's section of the castle. As Rath looked around, he could see various soldiers training. A closer look, and he would have seen Deborah working the soldiers hard, in the way that she always did during training sessions. Hopefully her work had made a big difference in their performance, for it would soon be tested.

Upon reaching the door of Vaida's office, Rath raised his arm and knocked on the door; a courtesy the wyvern lord never returned. "Vaida. ...I have news that you need to hear."

"Finally! YES! This is it! It was perfect before, but this.. genius! The flavor... such an exotic twist! I can sell these and rake in the gold! My meatballs shall rule the country!! Hahahahahahaha!!"

For around a week, Vaida had locked herself in her office, set on completing a personal goal. She didn't like the Holidays very much, so she figured that she wasn't missing much anyway. She had been training Mihira, but the girl had fainted during the last exorcise. How was Vaida supposed to know the girl would react that way by just having some of nature's more disliked creatures thrown at her? It was an exorcise to help toughen her up! Well, after that, the voodoo girl managed to talk Vaida into giving Mihira a week's break. So, Vaida took it upon herself to set out and create a totally new twist to her meatball recipe. And finally, at the end of the week, passed that dreaded new year's party, she has done it! The perfect combination of ingredients for the perfect twist! It's lovely! It's delicious! It's-

There was suddenly a knock on the door. Now, Vaida's office was... well, it was kind of a piece of crap. It clearly was not well kept up by the last owner. The knock caused the room to vibrate and a book fell from a shelf. It fell and headed toward the cauldron that contained the delectable ingredients. It was as if it was in slow motion, yet there was nothing Vaida could do. The book knocked the cauldron and it spilled over, and onto the notes that had been written down. It's ruined. She let out an appropriate yelling expression.

"...FFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!"

Witha slam of the book hitting the wall after being thrown, thus causing even more to fall, and some stomps of feet, Vaida went to the door of her office and swung it open. "What in the HELL do you want?!"

After some coordination with the two controllers of the characters, it was decided to just say that the s**t was discussed. When Vaida had taken in all that she was told, she was actually pretty unenthusiastic about it. The thought of helping out a bunch of snobs who had previously denied any contact with them just didn't sit right. But, orders were orders, and she could always look forward to a fight. She had never been to Estarcia, and the experience of war would be beneficial to the soldiers. Plus, one more friend for them was one less ally for Mordache. Vaida really hated those ******** ever since the battle in the desert last autumn. It taught her that the Guard needed to step up even more. This Estarcian campaign would have definite beneficial results.

"Alright, I guess this could be fun. I'll get our troops ready to move out. Anything else?"

Rath looked over at Vaida, after she asked if there was anything else. "Send out a message to the guild. All those who volunteer service are to report here and prepare to leave. Healers especially will be needed. The Watch will also be called upon." Rath paused for a moment. He realized that, though not everybody would want to go, there may be a frenzy amongst the guild members. They would be able to take more than they could into the desert, but space was still limited. "Be quick. Not everybody will be able to go. The first that come will be the ones you take." He turned and began to walk off, and said only one more thing before leaving the room. "You will be accompanied by at least one crew member. I will go to let the one I have in mind know, now."

xxxxx"If you're worried about surviving, xxxxxxxyou can worry about it after you're dead!"

Calling up the guild members... yeah, that was a good idea, actually. It wasn't so much that the Guard was unable to go with the numbers it had, but it had been through quite a lot. It was a lucky break that none of the soldiers died, or rather that they were somehow all brought back, during the autumn fiasco. But a lot of them were just too exhausted, battered, and bruised. A sufficient amount were located at other cities, as well. They couldn't be called back just for this, that would be putting their own country at a higher risk. Vaida had two officers she could take; the voodoo girl and the sniper skank. Them, along with the Watch commander, herself, and whatever crew member was going come come would be acceptable in terms of leadership. The extra boost of power in troops would come from the members of the guild.

Vaida watched as the nomad left, then turned and looked out to her men. They were in the middle of their training. What a shame, news of this couldn't have come later, so that they could finish. They'd just have to make up for being let out early, later. Nobody gets off easy, when it comes to training. Ah, but it was beautiful; strength, that is. Growing strength. It was calming to watch. Yeah.... "ALRIGHT YOU LAYABOUTS, STOP YOUR PELVIC THRUSTS AND COME TO ATTENTION!"

Surprisingly, the soldiers all stopped and with a slight hectic scamper they all formed up. They were getting good at this. Of course, they knew what would happen should they not be fast. You can use your imagination as to what the punishment might be. "What I am about to tell you is not a drill. We have been ordered to move out! I want all of you to prepare yourselves for a campaign in Estarcia. That is where we are headed! I will give you more information once all the others have arrived. Spread word to your comrades. Have them be ready. You will not disgrace the name of the Guard with your slothfulness!" The soldiers responded with a resounding 'no ma'am'. Vaida looked over near an end of the line of soldiers and pointed to a group, Mihira being amidst them. "You four! Send word out amongst the city and surrounding villages! Guild members are being asked to sign up to participate! Tell them their loyalty is being tested, if you have to! Get as many healers as you can! Send word to the Watch as well. Have them come back here and prepare to move out instantly. We will not be waiting forever! GO!"

Mihira and the other three jumped slightly as their commander barked her order at them, then sprinted out, to do as she said. Hopefully, people would react quickly and enough would show up. It's not like they've had much else to do, so they better show up. After the rest of the soldiers begin to scuttle about and get all the things they need, Vaida turned and began to make her way out to Umbriel. She had to get herself ready, as well.
