Kivuli had recently returned from his trip to the rogue lands and was on his way to the little spot that he and Maua called home. He was late, later than he should be, which was not going to be good at all. Maua would likely scold him for being gone for so long, but he couldn't help it. Like the typical nice guy that he was Kivuli had spotted to have a chat with a wild dog who had happened across his path. Maua hated wild dogs, thinking they were nothing but lowly creatures, while Kivuli was indifferent on the subject. Some he had come across in the past fit the lowly creature description to a tee. Others, like the one he had run into, didn't see all that lowly at all. Subu had been interesting enough for him to stop and talk to.
Padding his way to the entrance of his home he called out to Maua. "Maua my love, where are you?" He shook his thick purple mane out as he waited to hear see and hear her. Her voice always made him smile. He was extremely lucky to have such a beautiful mate, even if she did have a bit of an attitude here and there.

Maua trotted back into the pridelands in a bit of hurry, she'd wandered rather farther then normal and wound up at a nearby watering hole. A trip that had hardy gone well - and now well she had to get back to the place she and Kivuli called home and smooth out her ruffled fur before he noticed. But she was running late and surely Kivuli had returned by now, the sun was setting and he knew how cranky she got when he wandered for too long. She huffed slightly...figured that her own paranoia when it came to him would return to bite her in the butt now.
Rounding a corner she skid to a stop, ear's twitching as she hear her name being called. Drat...he was already home just as she had suspected, Turning her gaze this way and that in order to look for an alternative Maua caught sight of another Noble headed her way - double drat. She didn't want Kivuli to see her all ruffled up true - but she couldn't let anyone else see her like that either, she could only imagine the veiled comments that would create. Tail tapping the ground in irritation Maua started off again, zipping up the pathway until she came up behind Kivuli. "Right behind you"

The soft sound of padding feet and Maua's soft voices caused him to turn around. It was quite odd for her to be out and about when she would normally be passing at home waiting for his return. When Kiuvli's eyes settled upon Maua's messed up fur his jaw dropped open. "What happened to you?" He asked with a bit of shock in his voice. Maua was not a the type of lioness that went looking for trouble and certainly wouldn't get herself messed up for nothing.
Stepping back her motioned for her to get inside. "Come on let's get you inside and then you can get cleaned up." Following her inside their home he knew she wouldn't want others to see her in this state. "Now tell what happened. Was it someone within the pride that did this to you?" His claws poked out and dug into the ground at the mere thought that someone would attack her within the pride lands. If that were the case, well he would see to it that it never happened again.

Maua's tail twitched slightly as she stood staring at him in silence until he recalled his manners and stepped aside to let her in. Men, she fumed always standing about stupidly instead of responding quickly the way they ought too. Must be something mis-wired in their brains she continued to mentally rant - and whatever that mis-wire was, Dogs had it too she concluded. But a twinge in the back of her mind kept her from actually saying thee things- it wasn't Kivuli's fault she'd had to get into a fight - come to think of it it hadn't even been a males fault. Just some stupid harebrained dog. Mongrel...if she ever saw that beast again why she'd..well she'd do more then she'd already done that was for sure.
When Kivulis words managed to break into her little rant Maua fought with a brief desire to tell himt hat yes it had been another male in the pride...but to do that would just send him off half-cocked no doubt rather then let her bask in his anger over the thought of someone else touching her. If nothing else well...she supposed it was nice to know he cared so much, not that she'd ever questioned that exactly, but every lady likes to see her man get all worked up now and again in a jealous fit.
"No its wasn't anyone from the pride" She soothed him after a few moments of admiring just how good he looked when he was angry. "I just had...a run in at the watering hole" She continued coyly while attempting to smooth down some of her rumpled fur with her tongue.

Kivuli followed Maua inside to their private quarters where peering eyes and ears could not reach. He stood there for a few moments studying her while she spoke and started to fix herself up. She was covered in mud, her fur was a complete mess and it looked like she had some claw marks on her as well. "Well I'm glad to here it wasn't anyone from the pride, cause if it was..." He trailed off, no need to say what he was thinking, she knew full well he would not stand idly while others mistreated her.
He took a deep breath to calm himself, Kivuli rarely got truly mad. In fact it bothered him when he did get angry, he thought that he should be above such foolish thoughts. "It looks like more than just a mere run in at a watering hole. Come now, tell me what happened. I don't want any details left out." No doubt Maua would tell him everything he wanted to know, if she did leave anything out then it wasn't of important or it could be something that she really did not wish to discuss. He would find out in the end though, she always had a habit of telling him such things at a later date after they had ate away at her for a while.

Well so much for stirring him up Maua thought to herself as she saw him try to calm himself down - Kivuli never got angry for very long and hen he did he seemed to calm himself quickly. Such a pity really - he had a much more macho like air about him when he was angry and she sometimes enjoyed stirring him up just for shits and giggles. Alas it seemed today he wouldn't be taking her coy bait and she sighed slightly, remaining silent as she tried to get rid of some of the mud covering her fur. Ugh...being this dirty just made her want to vomit, seriously she'd rather upchuck a hairball then deal with the mud.
When she judged she'd been silent long enough to if not make him angry - at least make him a little bit impatient Maua looked up from her cleaning job. "There was a dog standing in the watering hole..seriously, just standing in it with her muddy nasty little paws dirtying it all up" She told Kivuli as though this statement would make the whole confrontation make sense.

Kivuli sat patiently while Maua took her time cleaning herself up before explaining to him what had happened. Well, perhaps explaining wasn't the best way to put it, since she seemed to leave out pretty much every single detail of the encounter. How typical, she always seemed to think that the simple statements would be sufficient. Well if she could play the sit silent game before saying anything so could he.
He sat looking at her, tail flicking about, not in an impatient way but more like keeping track of how much time had passed before finally speaking. Of course if he kept her waiting to long for his response she might just get all irritated, something that was best to avoid at all costs. "So somehow while at this waterhole with a dog standing it in you managed to get yourself covered in mud and somewhat banged up as well. Must have been one angry waterhole to have lashed out like that for no reason." He couldn't help being a bit sarcastic in what he said, sure it would piss her off but she just looked so darn cute when she was in a huff.

Maua had continued to try and clean herself off as Kivuli sat in silence - when he finally did speak no doubt he would fall over over himself in telling her how awful it must have been and how clearly she had been in the right of things to beat the wretched beast up. Of course thats how it wou...Maua paused mid-lick, what had he said? Eyes narrowed she looked up at him, the very tip of her tail tapping out a staccato beat against the ground.
"Of course not you...you...halfbreed!" Sure Kivuli wasn't a halfbreed but it was the best insult she could come up with at the moment and to her way of thinking was plenty dastardly enough to do the job. Even insinuating mixed blood would be enough to get her hackles up at least. "I got all muddy while trying to teach the ruddy dog a lesson! She didn't give near the respect she should have, filthy beast. I suppose YOU would have just let her stand there with her disease ridden pelt filthying up the waterhole" She sneered at him before turning away and sniffing a few times "and here I'm wounded and you don't even care"

Kivuli did his best to give her a hurt look when she called him a halfbreed. But it didn't last long as a small chuckle escaped his maw. He quickly brought the giggle to a halt, no need in angering her too much, he had had his fun and now it was time to be serious again. For a little while anyways.
"Teach her a lesson huh?" He said as he stood up moving closer to as as she turned her back to him. Kivuli wasn't about to point out that not all dogs were smart enough to show lions the respect they deserved. There were some that did, and those ones were extremely smart in doing so. He also held back a comment about how not every beast that isn't a lion doesn't have a disease covered pelt. "Now you know I wouldn't just let a dog, or any other creature get away with that. But you could have gotten yourself really hurt doing that," he paused to take a close look at the wounds she had suffered. "What would you have done if another dog had come to her rescue?" He sat down in front of her, lowering his head a bit to look into her eyes. "You know I care deeply about you, which if why I hate seeing you like this." Maua had been extremely lucky that she hadn't happened across a dog that had a pack nearby. He didn't know what he would do with himself if anything happened to her outside of a minor scuffle with another beast.

Maua simply stuck her nose in the air, one ear had turned towards him when he chuckled after her insult. It didn't surprise her that he found her comments amusing - they knew each other too well now to take such things seriously though she tried as hard as she could to stay mad at him. Ticking her gaze sideways when her tried to make her look him in the eyes and giving a slight snort at his assumptions.
"Oh she was alone, not a scent on her but her own wretched smell" she stated with confidence "And trust me she is far worse off them I am, I just got a few scratches and a bit of rumpled fur...her...well I doubt she'll be hunting anytime soon" She concluded smugly, clearly she was rather proud of herself for having taught this particular creature a lesson. "I was lenient..." she continued after a few moments pause. "but if I find her there again..." A small growl escaped her lip. Surely the dog wouldn't be that stupid though... Gods she hoped not Maua didn't wan to end up all muddy again over a stupid dog.

A small part of him felt sorry for the dog. He had seen Maua's temper enough to know that it was dangerous to ones health to be on he receiving end of it. Though she had never physically attacked him, he had shared enough angry words and cold stares to know that Maua was no push over in a fight. He shifted his head once again trying to look into her eyes, by the Gods she was stubborn sometimes. And yet he loved her none the less.
"I don't want you going off looking for a fight Maua." He told her sternly. Defending ones self when faced with a dangerous situation was one thing, but going off looking for trouble was another. Though he didn't think Maua would do such a thing...at least he hoped she wouldn't. "And if that dog ever comes near the pride lands we have guards to take care of her." He knew that growl well, she did it often when she meant business. "I must have your word Maua, that you won't go off by yourself looking for this dog so you can finish what you started."

Maua sighed slightly when he shifted to look into her eyes but this time she let him - no matter how hard he tried it never seemed like she could stay angry at her dark colored mate for long. He just had something about him that bled the anger from her. Sure she'd managed to stay piping mad at him a few times - but those were rare and generally the result of some serious infraction. Kivuli seemed to avoid angering her most o the time. He was a smart lion.
"I didn't go off - looking - for a fight as you so put it, I merely happened to run into one" She protested "There is a difference you know" She told him "but very well..if you insist I shall not go looking for her" The lioness agreed with a sweet smile - of course if they just so happened to run into her - well that was an entirely different story alltogether

Kivuli's green eyes finally locked with hers for a few moments and he could see the anger in them slowly disappearing. He wasn't sure how he managed to calm her down all the time, but it was something he just happened to do naturally. even as cubs growing up he was always the one who would take away her anger when something happened.
He sat up straight looking about their home that they shared. So many good memories here, a few well they weren't so good, but even the best couples fought every now and then. It was a fact of life and as such was completely unavoidable. Leaning forward Kivuli nuzzled her softly, he would make sure that she kept her word, but for now he was willing to drop the subject completely. His eyes settled upon her paws and he stood up suddenly acting like he had seen something horrible. But when he looked at her a moment later there was a smile across his maw. "You missed a spot." He said motioning with his nose towards some mud on her paw.

Maua glanced down as Kivuli's face registered that he had seen something terrible, what had he seen? Had she been wounded worse then she thought and just not noticed it due to the adrenaline? she'd heard of that happening before - in stories from others. She'd always sorta counted that as a bit of wild exaggeration however. i mean rally...how could that possibly happen? It sounded o silly, surely one would notice if they were terribly wounded, adrenaline or not.
Perhaps it was a spider - she hated spiders, always had and while Kivuli had always though this a silly fear - she could easily crush them with one paw he'd point out on numerous occasions - she still found them creepy and was prone to squealing fits until he killed the ones she saw. When she saw neither of these things and registered that it was a bit of mud he was referring too he gave him a mischievous look and whipped her paw out to smear it onto him instead. "There" She stated smugly "All better"

Kivuli sat perfectly still as she hastily inspected herself for whatever it was she thought he had seen. A smile slowly crept across his maw as she reached her paw out to wipe the dirt on his fur. Once she was done she looked down at the mud that was no on his fur and then back at Maua. "Much better." He told her and then stood up in a nice proud pose. "Do you think it makes me look more manly?"
Letting out a yawn Kivuli looked at Maua again. It had been a long day for both of them and they needed some rest. He had spent the day wandering around a good chunk of the rogue lands while Maua had fought some dog over nothing more than a water hole. Well that was in the past now, or so he hoped. He pushed his soft bushy mane towards her and then led the way to their sleeping quarters. They laid down together, their tails intertwining and fell asleep quickly.
