Herd Ranks
Astral Walker – These are the horses that lead the herd. As per tradition the Astral Walkers are always a mated pair that show the deepest connection to the herds beliefs and are often blessed by the Spirits in a number of ways.
Grove Keeper – Akin to Elders, they are the oldest and wisest members of the herd. It is their job to speak to the Spirits of the ancestors and ask them for their wisdom and guidance. They are also charged with the duty of keeping the sacred groves pure so that they may be used for the herd’s ceremonies.
Sprit Ovates – The Spirit Ovates can be broken down into two categories. The Spirit Talker who performs ceremonies for the dead and the Spirit Healer who acts as the healer of the herd, though both can perform the others duties when needed.
Spirit Walker – These horses work closely with the Grove Keeper. They too speak with the Spirits to gain their wisdom and can help shape the herds actions to benefit them when needed. On occasion they can see into another horses soul and discover things about them that they themselves may not know.
Lunar Guardians – Even peaceful herds need protectors. It is the duty of the Lunar Guardians to keep the herd safe from any threats such as rogue mustangs, bears or a pack of wolves. These horses are willing to put their lives on the line to ensure that the others survive.
Oak Talker – The storyteller, it is their job to keep track of the herds history. Oak Talkers often sing their stories, tell poems or just simply speak a story in plain words.
Moon Guided – Someone has to teach future generations about the ways of the herd, be that their beliefs or once old enough the specific duties they perform based upon their future rank.
Forest Dwellers – These are all the others horses who do not fall into specific ranks. They are either new members or possibly horses who are too old to be considered Blessed Sprouts but have no yet attained their new rank based on their training.
Blessed Sprouts – These are the foals and yearlings of the herd. They have not yet been chosen for their specific paths and as such are called Blessed Sprouts until that day comes.
Fallen Leaf – This is the lowest rank within the herd. Given to those who stray from the herd’s beliefs, be it mating outside the herd or killing another. They are shunned and forced to live at the outskirts of the herd’s area.
