Iniabi took a deep breath as his eyes shifted among the trees. It had been over a year... a year since he had seen Kitten. She gave birth to three beautiful cubs and then up and disappeared. Ever since that day Iniabi had began a slow declining path toward depression. First it was his sister's disappearance... and now Kitten's, and even his son Synder had. Iniabi didn't know what to do any longer. Every time he had hoped things would look up, he felt the ache in his heart grow. He missed her. He missed her more than he had anyone. He was unsure he could make it without her any longer...

Quietly she padded along her way, her head hung low to the ground as she didn't care where she went. Kitten had left her mother after one morning, when she had awoken to find herself alone and . . . cold. Kitten didn't know where her mother had gone, nor if she was alive anymore. But, she felt it didn't matter. Her mother was still with her in her heart and in the memories she'd remember until the day she left the world.
But none of that was the cause for her apparent sadness. Something else caused Kitten to hang her head in guilt. She had spent so much time trying to take care of Ozzie, that she hadn't noticed the ache that had grown in her heart. She missed Iniabi. She felt any grief that was brought upon him, was her fault. Sighing, Kitten emerged from a group of bushes, her wings almost dragging on thr ground.

Iniabi sighed and let his body drop to the ground. His ears were pinned to his head, his tail flat against the ground. His children were almost adults now. Almost. Had she missed everything? Was she ever coming back? Had he done something wrong to chase her away? He was unsure about anything any longer..
And then... then he thought he saw a green figure move out of the corner of his eye. No.. that was just a figment of his imagination, his longing to see her... she wasn't really there, she couldn't have been.

Her eyes gazed at the ground and every pawstep she took. She didn't dare to look up but merely let her paws lead her nowadays. Kitten stopped in her tracks to watch as a mouse ran across her path quickly away with little ones following behind. At that her heart nearly broke. The children . . . Oh what did they think of her now? Did they believe her to be a bad mother? Did they want to even see her face after she left without a word? She thought not, but she couldn't blame them. She left everyone behind without as much as a goodbye.
Kitten continued on, blinking back tears. As her eyes filled up, her vision blurred causing her to fall over her own paws and onto the ground in a heap. "What have I done?" she whispered softly. Finally looking around, she thought she saw Iniabi in the distance ahead of her. But she wasn't sure, because she couldn't see through the tears she so strongly tried to hold back. "Iniabi?" Kitten asked anyways. She could always hope. . .

Iniabi's whole body was laying against the ground, his ears pinned to his head, his eyes closed. And then suddenly... as if a faint whisper on the wind... he thought he hear his name. Blinking, his raised his head. "Hello?" He sat there, frozen, listening, but he heard no reply. No... it must have been his dream... it had to have been his dream... He began to lower his head once more when he heard his name again. Someone was there! Jumping up, Iniabi moved his head back and forth to get a better look. Instantly he froze, there in front of him stood the lioness he had been looking for.. his one.. true love. "Kitten?" He asked with a hint of hope in his voice. He hoped she was alright, beyond anything else he hoped she was alright. "Kitten..? Is that really you?" His voice was growing warmer with every word he spoke as life was slowly being forced back into him.

Kitten stopped once she was a mere foot away from him. Her name being heard, she snapped her attention to what she had thought was a mirage. He was there . . . Actually there! Kitten's eyes lit up with a bright expression, but so much showed in her facial expression. But the one thing that was clear, was the sorry she knew she didn't have to say. "Iniabi? Iniabi!" She practically jumped the last foot and tackled him. Rolling over, so that she was on top of him, Kitten felt like kissing him to death as she licked his cheek.

Iniabi let out a laugh when he finally realized he had been tackled to the ground. Smiling, he wrapped his paws around her, pulling her closer as he nuzzled her cheek, purring softly. "My gods... I've missed you... I was beginning to think I may never see you again.." He turned his head so she wouldn't see the tear that was forming on his cheek.

"Iniabi! I've missed you a thousand times over! I'm so sorry for leaving you. . . And the cubs . . ." Kitten's smile dropped for a moment as she was pulled to him. The joy that rushed through her still wasn't enough to push away the feeling of guilt that lingered. As she stared at him, her eyes trying to search his before he turned his head, Kitten whispered, "You're not . . . mad at me? Are the kids okay? They must think I abandoned them on purpose . . . I'm such a bad mother and mate. But I'll make up for it! I promise!" She cuddled up to him, feeling safe and warm against him as she tried to tie together loose ends the best she could by making promises.

Iniabi tightened his grip on Kitten, nuzzling her cheek over and over until he heard her words. He pulled his head back, looking into her eyes, "No Kitten... I'm not angry with you. I'm confused... but not angry. Otieno... and Abeytu are alright." He gave a feigned smile, hoping that Synder had been with her this whole time but he wasn't about to mention he was gone in case it might cause more worry for her. "Kitten... you are wonderful, you always have been. The kids will understand.."

She said nothing else and instead enjoyed the moment of being in his arms again. Kitten had so much to ask of what had happened since she'd been gone, but she knew he probably had questions for her as well and decided she'd answer his first. The unspoken words hung in the air for a moment longer, before she nuzzled his cheek and purred, "You must want to know where I've been . . . and why I left."
