Anat pounced along happily in the snow. Her feet kicking up tuffs of it every now and then as she did so. The air had a crisp bite to it and every time she made a leaping arch into the air it stung her eyes a bit. Not that she minded she was having to much fun. Having gotten away from home and the small ones she had been looking after. She had managed to escape to a glade a ways away. She had been to this place a few times before. The glade stretched on and up to a river that was currently frozen and after that was a group of trees. The trees having lost their leaves awhile back, they now stood as empty hallow guardians to a dark and unknown area. A shiver ran down her spine as she stared into their depths. She couldn't see very far, the moons light only doing so much to illuminate the surrounding area. Her form was still and poised for a long time trying to discern anything out of the darkness that clung to the shallow spots between the trees. It did her no good however. She shook her head and went back to her play.

She lept about chasing imagined butterflies and rolling in the snow. Her golden fur catching the moon's light and glinting. Such a strange sight like watching the sun play in the moonlight in the snow. It was an odd thing to think but it was as close to the truth as one might get. With her bouncy, bubbly and warm personality she might as well have been the sun. She ran in a circle and yipped and kicked up snow and bounced up trying her best to catch the moon and hold it in her paws. Her small sounds of joy and play reverberating throughout the night skies and the dead trees. Seemingly bringing life to this once dead and snow covered area. She was far to caught up in her game to notice anything else.

Yue could be compared to being a gargoyle hidden beneath a blanket of white snow. He had not moved to another tree since it had begun snowing and so now remained somewhat hidden on the tree branch. His tail stood against the tree like a poisonous snake waiting for something –or someone- to get near it. Yue blinked slowly, in that manner that reptiles tend to do when they have nothing to fix their gaze on. The moon was bright tonight, and it was fresh. It was a good temperature perhaps not cold enough for him but the snow made up for it.

And then he broke from his reverie.

The vibrations reached him far too soon for him to block out the sound and before he knew it the high pitched tone of a female reached his ears before he could block them out. He immediately spotted her, it was difficult not to. There were no leaves on the trees since they had taken their annual journey weeks back and the open field was all white with the expectation of a gold dot in the middle of it all.

She looked to be chasing something, was it something he could not see? Impossible! He had every right to be prideful of his sense and yet she longingly chased after something that was not there. Yue ignored it, that being his response to just about everything nowadays, and stayed on his high branch. Then the female started prancing the wrong way… towards his tree, still chasing something and he decided to let a deep, low growl as to warn her to go someplace else. How dare she? He thought. This was his.

Anat stopped her ears flicking forward at the low rumbling. She was poised under a tree having just crossed the river in two easy leaps. Her whole body was tense and on high alert, the muscles under her fur tense and ready to spring. She was nothing but long and wiry muscle, her stance belying how much power was held in that one small compact body. The rumbling did not cease and eventually she recognized it as a growl. She tilted her head lightly, just the smallest of movements.

She could not place the exact location. It was... troublesome. Setting her on edge and making her jumpy.

It seemed to be coming from above her but that simply couldn't be right. It made no sense, for the only thing above her was open night sky and sleeping trees. Besides why would there be anyone around here anyway? She was after all alone. This was after all her special place, and it was after all the middle of the night. At least she thought she had been alone. Her ears snapped back against her head and she let a very low growl ease out. It was nothing more then a warning, a challenge as it were.

"Who is there?" Her voice was light and tinkling despite the low growl she had just emitted.

Yue didn’t move yet, instead he examined her closely. She was looking for the source, she was looking for him. There was a certain thrill, much like the thrill of the hunt that often excited him to no end. But there was no pleasure on choosing to make the weaker miserable. Not yet, anyways.

He stood on his branch carefully and lazily and with a flick of his tail he started to get rid of the snow. The snow came crashing down with dull thuds, he shivered. Though Yue welcomed the cold, he did not welcome the growl.

“Keep your distance,” He said softly, keeping his gaze at the back of the femme’s sun coat. His thick tail swayed from side to side to express his annoyance and irritation but he insisted on keeping his calm features on his face. Yue looked down at her with his cold azure eyes, almost daring her to move closer.

Anat's head shot up and her deep spring green eyes connected with cold azure. Her body visibly relaxed once she had found the source of the noise. She let her tail sway back and forth lightly, a sign of peace. Slowly, oh so very slowly she took a step forward and sat down. She took everything in. He didn't seem like a very happy person at the moment. She had learned her lesson long ago about randomly bouncing up on someone who seemed dangerous. Not that she feared this male. Oh no that was not it in the least. But she could not exactly reach him in the tree. He did have her at a disadvantage. She wrapped her tail around her front paws and shot him the most warm and dazzling smile.

"Why, pray tell should I do that?" She asked her voice light and playful. "Do I scare you, dark one?" She was just playing with him now. Her eyes were alight with the amusement she felt. She stood up and took a very small step forward. "Do you believe I would hurt you?" She giggled at the notion of her ever actually hurting anyone. She took yet one more step closer. "Are you alone? Does the dark one not have friends or a love? Perhaps a family?" She asked her seemingly sad as she spoke. To think that someone had no friends or family or a loved one? It was a supremely sad thought indeed. It seemed to diminish her fire slightly. How many times had she been the first for people? How many foxes had she met that were alone? It was a sad thing, to see someone alone. She let her eyes trail back up to his. They were softer this time. Still the bright green of spring but a certain gentleness had touched them now. Making them seem that much warmer.

He didn’t remove his gaze from her and so remained unmoving. He blinked slowly and with the utmost patience, as if ready to preach a child. She reminded him of the sun and all its qualities, its color and warmth being the two more obvious. Yue visibly relaxed when she sat down, if she stood in one place than she would not get to him. Common sense right? Naturally. And then she spoke with her sun-warm voice, Yue tilted his head to the side to acknowledge her speech. Then he took a moment to think about it, but did not answer immediately.

Dark one? He whipped his tail against the tree bark. Had she dared suggested that she held the power to possibly harm him? Yue didn’t find it funny at all. Family? Friends? What was all that gibberish? His cold eyes had seen her take that tiny step, how could he miss it if he hadn’t considered blinking yet? She then took another step, his muscles tensed again and he looked to his side in order to find another branch to hop on.

“Enemies,” He replied simply and as if to answer the rest of her questions. Yue then ever so gracefully rose to another tree branch, his gaze settled back down on the sun fox. He wanted no contact, it didn’t matter if it was physical or emotional it was all rather useless in time of great needs.

Anat tilted her head to the side at his one word response. Enemies. Did he mean that everyone was an enemy or that enemies had taken these people from him? Either way it was still a sad state to be in. She padded forward unmindful of his earlier statement. She stood on her hind legs and placed her front paws against the tree. She could have easily lept up into the tree. She had after all perfected how high she could bounce and how far she could bounce. It was more the case of he seemed really very much on edge by her presence. Which made him all the more interesting; and made her want to get to know him that much more.

"Enemies, dark one?" She asked lightly her tone as gentle as it had ever been. His callous nature seemingly rolling off of her. For a moment she had to wonder why she called him that. Dark one? It, had really just popped into her head upon seeing him. His silvery blue scales and fur had reminded her of the moon. The moon had made her think of the night sky and the dark; plus is solitary nature just made it fit. He was a lonely creature, and her heart went out to him. Even she in all her bubbly and bouncy ways could understand what it was like to be lonely. Not that many knew she had a one point be a solitary creature. After all she now had so many friends and each fox that crossed her path was named friend in her eyes.

She let her feet slide down the tree before taking a few steps back and looking at him once more. He was just like the moon, out of reach and so far away. Only he wasn't truly out of reach, if she tired she could reach him. She took a few more steps back before taking a small running start and then leaping into the lower branches of his tree. She didn't go farther then that. Mindful of the fact that he didn't much care for her presence but wanting to be able to touch him anyway. In her eyes he was as the moon, the thing she had been trying to catch not moments before. To now be able to touch it was just a hair to much for her to resist.

"Why do you shy away from me?" She asked now. Still looking up at him from her low hanging branch. She truly wanted to know why it was he pulled away from her. Why he gave her no reaction. Every other she had met had at the very least given her a reaction. Yet his face remained impassive and his eyes cool. Only her senses gave her a heads up that he was not completely comfortable with her.

He could see that she was puzzled with his earlier statement, body language sometimes said much more than words ever would. There was a soft, cold breeze passing by and he breathed it in, filling his lungs up with fresh frosty air. Yue heard a sound then that was suspiciously of dead bark being disturbed by an outer force. He looked down casually and with his shining aqua eyes saw that she was attempting, or rather judging the distance, to get up.

He rose higher then, wanting to get away from her voice. Did she really expect her warmth to get through his thick skin? Maybe she thought he was in need of help, which was hardly the case. He found a great comfort in his solitude; he had dubbed interaction with others meaningless. But this fox, she was stubborn. She wanted to talk and talk and with every other sentence she would creep closer and closer.

Yue was almost -almost- tempted to have her come closer, he would had liked counting the branches down as she flew past them. The idea of doing something so wicked did not excite him as it should have. The idea of just having her gone did however. She was so full enough and there was enough snow, he was sure she would survive.

He looked down at her since he had nothing else to focus on and remained passive. She spoke again and much to his relief didn’t climb higher. Yue was not obliged to reply but still he said, “Filthy.” He was looking at her, peering down with his piercing eyes as to say that she was the foul one.

She stopped and laid her ears flat against her head. Filthy? Was he saying SHE was filthy? Certainly not, she had been clean not moments before. "But, Dark one, my fur shines as brightly as ever. It captures the moonlight and glistens. Perhaps even more so then your scales and fur do. How can it be that, I am the one who is filthy?" She questioned him her ears tilting forward to catch the smallest of sound from him. The sudden breeze that had picked up danced in her fur, causing it to sway this way and that. A small shiver ran down her spine at the chill. It was not enough to really freeze her, but since she was not moving in play any longer it was enough for her to now notice the cold.

In all of this she never once dropped her eyes. Instead she let them roam his form before finally coming back to settle on his icy eyes once more. She held his gaze for a long moment prodding him for some sort of reaction. There was none forthcoming it seemed; she was doomed to wonder at why he was the way he was. Slowly she eased farther back on the branch, until she was curled up against the tree. She sat, her side pressed up against the cold unforgiving bark while her tail wrapped around her feet, so that she could look up at him with greater ease now. He seemed so intent upon not touching her, which made her want to touch him all the more. She wanted him to come down from his high perch, she wanted him to come and play in the snow to just... live a little. She had known him what... maybe five minuets now and already she could tell. She could tell that he had never in all his years lived as she had.

Perhaps that was it? Perhaps it was not her skin or fur that was dirty but... her very being. For certainly someone like she, who had lived and tasted all of life's pleasures was filthy compared to someone who had not. If this were the case then she could perhaps be persuaded to understand. But then, his aura was dark. As if his very soul withered in his body. Like his spirit shrunk away from another part of him. So if he was talking about things like that, then once again she was still cleaner then he. "Is it dark one, that you feel my being is filthy? That compared to you, one that has not tasted life and its sweet pleasures, that I am filthy? For as sure as I stand here I know that you are not in love with life." She stopped a moment letting him take that in before she started on. "Or is it that your very soul is filthy. For if it came right down to it, don't you think that in all your wisdom, for you must be wise, that the very freedom my soul has makes it less filthy then yours?" She asked her voice tinkling and light. Yet it had a gentle ring to it, and an almost thoughtful air.

Yue watched her reaction carefully as she was most definitely not pleased. His stare broke from her figure for a moment to examine the snow that had once been pure and untouched. Now it all that remained was a messy path leading to the brightly coated fox. It annoyed him, the touched snow. It had looked so peaceful in its sleep, when it was all even and flattened.

She looked at him expectantly and rather dramatically in Yue’s opinion. It was as if she were waiting for a full explanation of his forgotten life, or perhaps she expected him to tell her that it was just a game and that they could be friends now. Then she sat down and so did Yue, his thick scaled tail swaying behind him with no real purpose or intention.

He had thought about jumping down while she kept on asking the unnecessary questions. But then he had recalled that look he spotted on her features a few hours ago and the option was completely ruled out. Yue had heard enough of her voice for the day, in fact even as he started thinking that he noticed an orange hue in the night’s sky and instantly knew that morning was approaching. Had she really talked the night away?

Yue listened to her words and when she prodded about him being the filthy one he just stared at her. How quickly she assume he had never lived. Memories sealed off long ago, names with no recognition and words with no meaning. That’s all he had wanted to remember, it’s all he chose to.

Freedom, she had said. Yes dirty, foul, uncalled for. Her freedom ruined the perfect white canvas underneath him. It was ugly to look at now, it was no longer perfect. And then the more suitable bird for winter’s cold began to arise, their chirps brought some activity. They had now officially announced the beginning of the morning and so the sun began to shine down, it formed a thin veil of white air on its inhabitants below.

Yue leaped into the fresh morning air and landed on a tree across. He did not want to answer her questions; it would take too much time to explain. The draconic fox then rose higher and higher but kept the other one in his line of sight. He settled down as if to rest but before that he awaited for her absence.

After a few minutes the sun rose to hug everything in its warm embrace, Yue noticed that the sun kissed fox did shine with her own vivid aura. “Bright one,” He whispered into the cold morning air. They were like polar opposites he noted.

Anat's head snapped towards the sun as it gently rose above the earth. Wrapping her and everything else in a gentle and warm hug. She stood then and walked towards the edge of her branch and yipped. Happily her tail wagging her eyes closed as she let the sun shine in her fur and kiss her eyes. She greeted the sun like it was an old friend. Someone she had known her whole life and had never fought with. She turned back to him and smiled brightly and warmly. "Its morning. Isn't the sun beautiful?" She said happily her dark thoughts all but forgotten in her moment of joy. She looked at him with so much joy and warmth. Such a small thing, the sunrise, amazing that it could make one so happy. "The sun, her beauty is fiery and feral, its a passionate beauty." She looked back at him once more and padded back to her spot curled up next to the tree. "Hm but thats not to say that the moon does not hold his own beauty don't you think?" She was not simply talking to try and fill the silence. With silence came thought, and with thought memories and not all memories are pleasant.

"The moon is serene, a chill beauty that makes your heart ache." She stopped and looked over at him. He must be tired, she had kept him up all night. It was rude but, he had seemed so sad. She wanted nothing more then to see him smile. A simple thing that she often took for granted. Except for when she met people like he. He seemed somehow upset with her. Though she could not place the exact cause. It could be any number of things she figured. She had often times been referred to as annoying. Yet even though she knew she was probably annoying him, she could not rip herself away. She wanted to know. She wanted to know everything about him, she wanted to be his friend.

"Do you tire of me dark one?" She asked her voice almost holding a sad ring to it. "Does my fiery presence and beauty annoy you." She said it more as a statement and not a question. "And do you hate me already, Dark one?" The last part was whispered. A note of such sorrow ringing out in her voice. It should not come as a surprise to her. Really she was use to the hate and loathing others felt for her. There was few in this world that could handle her. More then not people did not like her. Well perhaps that was wrong, it was not people that did not like her. No, it was more that foxes like he did not like her. Too many times had she found herself as the enemy of someone like him. Yet, still every time she tried. Hoping that at least this time it would be different. A futile effort of course but still if she could at least help one person. Just ONE like him, then all the pains before would be worth it.

The sun reached his location and it lighted his scales afire. It was warm and cold at the same time; it was a nice easy feeling. He could hear the fox’s vocalizations and then looked back down to wonder why she was still there. She had not given up, she insisted on pointless chatter. He exhaled deeply and let it out in a long dragged out sigh. Then he turned to look back down and was surprised to find that she was still discussing the sun. Oh and the moon now.

Topics of the conversation kept on asking themselves questions in his mind. Yes both the sun and the moon were beautiful. They were complete opposites and yet they complemented each other so well. They worked together to keep the planet safe and alive.

Yue tilted his head to let her know he had heard. He couldn’t find the right answer to any of her questions, he needed something that wouldn’t spring up any more questions but everything had a ‘why’ to it.

“Bright one,” He said somewhat mockingly. “Hate is for the weak.” Yue stated flatly and completely confident of his statement. He didn’t wait for her response and despite the fact that he had told himself to not go down he was getting thirsty and partially hungry. Using his claws to ready himself, Yue jumped down two branches and then decided to just jump down and land on the snow. He fell with a cushioned thump and then looked over his shoulder to see if the golden fox was still around. He knew where the lake was, it was probably frozen but that was alright he could go for a swim too.

Anat watched him jump down, and land with a soft thump. He seemed to be looking for her. As if he was unsure if she would follow. She smiled slightly to herself and then lept clean out of the tree. Landing with a soft 'poof' beside him. Accidentally showering him with the snow her landing kicked up. She stood next to him now, a little closer then would be considered exactly polite. She lowered her head and took a step back. "Sorry about that Dark one." She giggled lightly. He was small, he had looked bigger in the tree. Now standing next to him he was hardly bigger then she.

"If hate is for the weak then there are many in this world that are such." She stated as she walked along beside him. Giving him room to do as he pleased. He was small yes but that did not mean he was not strong or capable of harming her. It was best to keep her distance until she was sure she could get away with touching him. "So you do not hate and you do not love. Well well dark one. What DO you do?" She asked her tone taking on a playful note. She pranced in front of him her nose in the air as she did so. Her feet making light pat pat noises as she did so. She stopped once she was a little bit in front of him and turned. A bright teasing smile on her features and a soft gentle kindness in her eyes.

"What is the key to your emotions Dark One?" She slunk low to the ground her belly fur almost touching the snow. "Or does the dark one even HAVE emotions anymore?" She sprung at him. Landing in front and showering him with snow once more. She was close not far to close, still not touching but still too close. Her nose was a few inches away from his. "Or is it you just don't show them for fear of getting hurt?" She bounced back away from him. Standing a little ways in front and to the left of him. Her tail twitching slightly, as she looked at him expectantly.
PostPosted: Mon Jan 18, 2010 9:58 pm

He growled at her when the snow got on his coat, but then figured he wouldn’t be so intimidating now that he was down and standing at about the same height. His ears flattened, a clear indication that he didn’t like where his thoughts were going. At least she had enough manners to apologize he figured. Yue continued his rather elegant swayed walk towards the lake, which looked to be no more than grass covered with the frost.

Well what do you do? She had asked. “I…” He started and then trailed off. She started prancing in front of him, her fur and her green bracelet swayed with the movement. He bared his fangs at her then, a warning to let her know that she was breaching her boundary. She knew already, he thought, even as she bounced towards him to spray him with snow she still kept a safe distance as if just in case.

His face remained lifeless once more and then he narrowed his eyes down to glare at her. His heavy muscled tail slapped at the snow behind, it was completely aggravated. Yue started walking to the right more, keeping his senses on full alert. With one eye on her form, he broke the thin glass by having his claws rake across the surface in a slow deliberate curve. He treated the thin frost sheet as if it were the skin of an enemy.

Afterwards he walked across the path he created and enjoyed the feeling of having the chilling water greet his scales. It was up to his shoulders by now and then he dipped his head low to start grabbing small sips. Yue was most annoyed that his glossy hair had gotten wet but that was alright. He then saw his rippling reflection and it greeted him by mouthing a, ‘Mine.’ He brought his tail down on the ice behind, breaking it and letting the reflection become distorted.

Anat slipped onto the ice with ease belly crawling till she could also take small sips from the hole he had created. When he smashed the ice behind her it had startled her so that she had jumped nearly straight back. This had been a mistake however for when she landed it was with a hard crack and then there was more cracking sounds and then the ice gave way beneath her. She had only a moment to squeak before she was swallowed up by the freezing water. The ice closed over her head causing her a moment of absloute terror. She was slow to move but eventually made her way over to the hole he had made.

She clambered out of the water and laid there a moment. Her body trembling, from the cold, exertion and fear. She let out a shaky laugh and looked at him. "Well that was fun." She stated as she stood and shook off before, turning around and lapping at the water a little more. She was still trembling badly and water dripped off of her in random places, giving her the look of a drowned rat. She tried very hard not to seem shaken up by it but she was. She didn't expect sympathy from him however, she just didn't want to seem too weak.

"You never finished your sentence dark one." She curled up on the bank and watched him intently. "I asked you what you did do. You said I... and then nothing." She reminded him from her spot. She trembled again and wrapped her tail closer around herself. Not that it did her much good seeing as it was still wet as well. Still she did her best to stay warm and not tremble. She leveled a gaze of intense warmth at him and a small smile. "Please do continue. I enjoy hearing your voice."
