Aleshanee gracefully landed on the ground, in the middle of a clearing surrounded by beautiful flora. Her eyes danced in happiness, finding this area to be quite the treasure. She took a moment to close her eyes, and inhale the wonderful fragrances surrounding her. Her eyes reopened, taking in the world around her. As the mare took a simple look around, her eye caught onto something she recognized. Her eyes widened, and smiled in glee at the sight of it. She gently walked on the grass before her, taking fluid steps towards a particular purple flower that looked similar to the one currently nested on the side of her hair, tucked over an ear. After nosing the flower a bit, taking in its' lovely fragrance, she backed away and smiled at the flower wising it a prosperous life. Her eyes followed a bee as it landed on the same flower she had been nudging to take in its pollen.
Her gaze turned upwards to take in the time of day. Her gray eyes easily found the light source, and saw it to be around midday. It left enough time to go exploring a bit before she needed to fly home. The mare sorted through her mind, wondering what she could do. The wings on her head absently twitched at every thought, unconsciously twitching with every disagreement of what the mare could do, before she simply decided to take a walk in hopes of running into another life form. She would love some company, she thought with a little wag of her tail.
She decidedly to start walking west to follow the sun. She wanted to stay with the sun as much as possible, because in her mind, it meant safety of some sorts. At least, that is what was ingrained in her mind.

 "Oy."
This day was not off to a good start for Corsant, begun by a night that had not ended as well as he would have liked. A long day's travel had resulted in nothing; he had failed to find a single relative or other person of interest with which to pass the time, in spite of his best efforts. Since reaching adulthood he, like all of his siblings, had left the family home to make his own way in the world, but on many occasions Cor had to say that making his own way in the world sucked. People were far too scattered, too suspicious, or too sensitive as a rule, leaving him isolated and bored out of his mind.
Yesterday he had been determined to encounter someone, that goal driving him to be up and about a great deal later than he really should have. That, in turn, resulted in him finally selecting a less than ideal sleeping place for the night, which resulted in him having a less than comfortable sleep, which resulted in his waking up this morning to find a great deal of his mane tightly and painfully twined around twigs and his own shoulder spikes. A great way to start the day.
That left him the incredibly long and irritating task of un-twining his hair, one strand at a time, least he rip it all out by the roots and REALLY make himself grouchy.

Aleshanee continued westward in hopes of coming across another soquili. She could have just taken the easy route and flown over head in attempts to find someone, but she knew some felt uneasy about something soaring overhead.
From time to time, she would get distracted by random wildlife that would cross her path, or find delight in some flowers that she recognized, but would get out of her distraction, and continue on with her path.
As she scanned the area, her eyes caught onto a red form. Her curiosity got to her, and decided to investigate. Her system filled with glee at the thought of meeting another. Her wings folded to her side, as she quietly walked over to the stallion male, who seemed to be busying himself with something...

Untangling his hair was a long and arduous process, one made more complicated by the fact that said hair was tangled in his shoulder spikes as well as twigs on the ground. Having only his mouth and his wings to assist him, he was required to bend his head at a weird angle in order to accomplish anything at all. Consequently, in a very short amount of time he had, in addition to tangled hair, a crick in his neck and a very grouchy opinion of long hair in general.
Granted, there was no way he would cut his hair short, much as it might benefit him in the short run. Though he didn't really care about it himself, there were certain members of his family that would die of shock if Corsant cut so much as one hair; therefore long his hair remained.
Though if it didn't get itself sorted out sooner, he was going to rip it out by the roots, pain and aesthetics be damned!
Later, he would blame his frustration for his distraction (even know though he knew there was no excuse for inattentiveness). However, as things stood the mare was able to get much closer to him than she should have without him noticing her, something that gave him even more frustration at the time.
The slight crackle of the ground under her hoof caused Corsant to whirl, head cocked to one side, and survey the other Soquili. Though a naturally gregarious Soquili as a rule, he still knew better than to expect everyone he met or approached him to be pleasant or kind. Parts of his own family were even suspicious, let alone strangers, and he had been raised to be on his guard at all times.
Though anything beyond that guard was sometimes questionable, as his honestly surprised look revealed as he actually looked at the mare. Seriously, how many wings did she have? In all his life, he'd never seen a Soquili with more than two; two wings growing out of their shoulders. Some had feathers, some were leathery, but there were always two.
How very unusual!
"Dang, it must take you almost no effort at ALL to fly, huh?" Not the most gentlemanly of greetings, but it was totally Corsant!

Taking some time to simply observe the stallion, the mare tried to figure out what he was doing. It occurred to her that the stallion had gotten his hair tangled in array of branches, and around the spikes around his wings. The mare briefly wondered to herself if he would allow her to help him, since it looked quite awkward for his neck to bend that way. The poor thing!
Apparently, the demonic wings didn't mean anything to her. She had never seen a kalona herself, and imagined something far worse than what was before her from exaggerated stories. He was just like her, right? He just had one set of leathery wings, and a set of horns she had seen on another land creature. He wasn't different from her at all.
Realizing she had stepped on a branch, her eyes widened in surprised. She was surprised by this branch and curiously look down to it, before looking at the stallion whose attention was now on her. She smiled sheepishly to him, before straightening herself up and side-stepping away from the now broken twig.
For a moment, the mare observed the stallion. It seemed like she had gotten another's attention on her wings. Unfolding her wings from her sides, she let the stallion examine them if he so wished. It felt odd for her to simply hold up her wings like so, mostly because her muscles that held her wings up would want reprieve from holding the wings up for so long. She let her wings flutter a bit, allowing her wing muscles to have some movement again.
After hearing the stallion's comment, her face contorted to look like she was laughing. She let no sound escape her as she silently laughed, her eyes dancing with joy. She shook her head in agreeing with the statement, although she didn't know how it would be to have one pair of wings, she would think logically it would be easier? She always heard that the extra pair of wings help her soar higher in the skies, in hopes to reach the gods.

Apparently his comment hadn't been taken the wrong way, if the mare's reaction was any indication. Her laughter, silent as it was, was enough of an icebreaker to allow Corsant to grin himself, the smile toothy and white against his dark face. Being a social Soquili, he was in his element when he could schmooze or mingle, and it had been so long since he'd seen another Soquili (days, in fact!) that this was looking to be a good day after all!
As the mare spread her wings, he was able to observe that there were actually eight of them: two on her hind ankles, two on her head, and four on her back. He could totally see flight being something easy for her or else insanely complicated; suppose that she were to flap one set of hind wings up and the other down at the same time; that would likely end in a painful tangle. Though he supposed that if she had been taught to fly with that many wings such tangles had to be few and far between...
Chuckling at the idea, Corsant graced the mare with a nod of thanks for the clarification. "Very interesting, and undoubtedly helpful for you if you ever need extra warmth or any feathers for anything! As you can see, I'm at less of of an advantage...well, unless there's anything I need to tangle up. Like hair." This last was uttered with a somewhat disgusted look at the blonde hair still wrapped around his shoulder spikes, one that he then turned to the mare. "And I can assure you that I'd be happy to never tangle anything ever, so that particular advantage is moot, anyway."
So far, her silence hadn't really registered with Corsant; a naturally chatty fellow himself, he was used to being listened to. But now he paused, the wing stretch having pulled his hair and reclaimed his attention on the untangling project. Lapsing into silence, he resumed his work, granting the mare the perfect opportunity to speak up herself, if she was of the conversational bent.

When the stallion started to speak again, her gaze turned up to look him in the eyes. She didn't really think about her wings in terms of giving her warmth. The mare supposed by having the extra appendages, it allowed her to keep in body heat, but when it came to hot days, it became a hassle. She would need to stretch her wings out from her body, and leave them out, which severely tired out her wing muscles. To respond to his statement, she gave a light nod that didn't really fully agree with his statement.
Her gaze dropped down to the hair caught in his wing spikes again. The mare giggled in silence, her eyes creasing to show her obvious laughter. Again, the mare nodded in agreement. She never had any problems with her mane and tail. She supposed she was blessed.
Seeing that the stallion was about to get to work on his mane again, she decided to step up to him, closing the distance between them. She saw the obvious discomfort that the stallion was in by trying to untangle his hair. The mare wanted to help, so she nudged his head with her own to remove his head from his current tangled hair. Of course, she left enough room that if he disagreed with her offer, she would back up and give the stallion room to groom himself.

Having returned his attention to the problem at hand (or really, the problem at HEAD), Corsant wasn't watching when the mare walked up to him; this resulted in her firm, if light nudge of his head taking him a bit by surprise. He was quick to recover though, and gave the mare an bemusedly roguish smile. "Dang, you don't waste any time at all, do you? Are you sure you're not one of my sisters under all those wings?"
Teasing aside, he rapidly picked up on her intent and gave her a beaming smile of gratitude. "If you want to help, it would be majorly appreciated; I'm starting to get a crick in my neck from the angle, and it seems like I'm starting to do more harm than good when it comes to untangling. Take it from me, you do NOT want to sleep funny when you have long hair and shoulder spikes. You should make a note of that."
Seeing as how the mare was unlikely to suddenly grow a set of shoulder spikes the advice was probably moot; however, chattering filled what could have been an otherwise uncomfortable silence. Not that Corsant was nervous by the physical proximity; being raised in a large and affectionate family had desensitized him to closeness. No, the awkwardness would have stemmed from the fact that he had now realized that she hadn't spoken so much as one syllable, and that was rather strange.
Not that he would judge, of course, but it was a very peculiar shyness (if shyness it was) to get close but be unwilling to speak. Unless perhaps it wasn't so much unwilling to speak as unable? Or maybe the one as a result of the other...
"I'm Cor, by the way; thanks for the help!"

Aleshanee could only give laugh at his response and grin cheekily before moving closer to his shoulder to work on the knots. She didn't think she could be his relative at all, mostly because she knew her line never strayed away from own race. Although, she couldn't speak for the descendants of her ancestors. They could have intermingled, but to be related to him as a sibling was not possible in her mind. She was amused by the thought though.
Her ears stayed perk, listening to every word that he spoke to her. She nodded her head when she duly noted his advice. Although, she doubted in her mind that shoulder spikes would grow out of her shoulder. The thought frightened her a bit, mostly because she would not know where the source of shoulder spikes would come from and why they would have not developed earlier on in her life as a foal, where most attributes that would be grown into would be apparent. Also, she knew her hair was not really long enough to get caught in shoulder spikes, thus she would not have a problem with getting her hair tangled.
The mare noted the silence, and stood comfortably in it. She almost knew and feel the thoughts of the other stallion as he possibly wondered why she couldn't speak. She didn't know that for sure, but from experience with others, she knew that thought would run through their mind eventually.
Pulling away for a moment, she nodded her head to his introduction, taking the name to memory. She smiled, her eyes shining in amusement, knowing she could not introduce herself to the stallion. The mare went back to work on the stallion's hair, admiring the blond locks that had managed to get tangled, but slowly fell back into their piecey nature against the stallion's neck.

Yep, she was silent, all right, though only the spirits seemed able to know why. Following his introduction, Cor had managed to stay silent more than long enough to allow the mare to speak, make her own introductions, comment on the weather, or make any other comment/observation/intimation/etc that she felt like vocalizing. Instead, she remained silent, going through the motions of laughing and smiling but without sound.
It was really very unusual, but at this point in his life Corsant had accepted that life was full of unusual things. If she wouldn't/couldn't talk, then that was her cross to bear. Or maybe she enjoyed it? It certainly created an air of mystery, given that he knew pretty much nothing about her other than that she was a helpful sort and she had more wings than he'd ever seen on a single Soquili before. Had she been able to speak, he might have asked what sort of Soq she was, and if there were many with wings like hers. He might have asked about the area, if she was a local or a transient, and how she was finding the early spring weather.
But as she wasn't a talker and he had never learned sign language (and, having hooves, wouldn't have been able to use it if he had!), he let all those things go, simply returning her smile with a grin before she went back to work on his mane.
"I have to say, this is a pretty nice morning to de-tangle, and it's nice to have you around and willing to help. Well, around more than willing to help, nice as the help is. I was beginning to think that there were no other Soqs in this area, period, and that for company I'd have to resort to conversing with my own reflection in the pond!"
It could be argued that he was still conversing with himself, but he didn't see it that way. True, there were strange elements to this conversation, but the point was that he had finally met someone new, and that someone hadn't even tried to kill him! Yet. Though he would appreciate it if she didn't START trying to kill him now, that would really bring down his whole morning.

Aleshanee could tell that he was waiting for a response for her with the prolonged pauses given to allow others to speak. Her eyes drifted up to look at him, and shone with mirth, knowing that she could not speak with him. Yet, she found it quite amusing to listen in for those pauses, and hoped that she was not being too mean or be taken as being rude because she did not respond.
Of course, she could respond. At least, she could try through acting it out. If the other was good at reading emotions, then maybe they could equate her emotions to how she felt about the question. If the other could connect with her on another level, then she was definitely sure there would never be a need for words to be spoken between the two.
She nodded lightly to his first sentence, continuing to work away at detangling his hair. More and more of his locks finally came loose from their tangled mess, to their normal silky arrangement at the side of his face down to his neck. She didn't tuck to hair, nor did she unnecessarily damage his hair to much to get it untangled. Of course, there would always be a knot that had to be chewed out, but she would remove them with as much tenderness as she could to prevent discomfort on Cor's head.
Looking up in confusion behind his neck sentence, she paused and blinked. She was sure there were others, mostly because she would always find someone to meet in these areas. She then wondered if he was more sedentary horse that didn't travel, or just had really bad luck in finding others to converse with. She smiled and laughed, finding it amusing that out of all the soquili, he would be conversing to a silent soquili. It was a bit better than conversing with his own reflection in the pond, but it might as well be that. The mare had a questioning look as she lightly nudged her nose against his leathery wings to then point her nose up to the sky, as if posing the question, "Do you go in the air?" in response to his statement of thinking there were no others in the area.

By now Cor had decided that the best way to help was not to help at all, and in keeping with that strategy he remained silent as the mare worked at his mane. It was much easier than trying to crane his neck around, that much was certain! Though she was good; it wasn't too long before he could straighten up properly, and not too much longer after that that he could turn his head. A very helpful sort of mare!
At her gesture, he had looked up almost in reflex, but laughed at his own literalism as she gestured at his wings. "Yeah, I fly. It's much faster than walking everywhere, and saves a lot of time. Though I try to get down and wander around as well; it'd kinda dumb to assume that I'd run into people in the air." Especially considering that at least half of the Soquili out there didn't so much as HAVE wings, to say nothing of using them.
"Though ground doesn't make a huge amount of difference; most Soquili see me and they immediately think I'm a nasty. Can't say that I blame them, but it's hard to talk to people if they scatter when they so much as catch a glimpse of you." Corsant was philosophical about his kalona heritage, but it did make things incredibly awkward from a social angle! Though he had to say...
In a more serious tone, he offered the mare a "Thanks, by the way. For not immediately assuming that I was evil. I like to think that I'm not, though I'll be the first to admit if I were, I'd probably lie. Still, for what it's worth I'm not."
That wasn't convoluted at all!

Moving away from the stallion's spikes, she observed how much more she would need to entangle. It didn't look so bad now, and she was sure she would be done soon. Moving in towards the spikes, she released the rest of the strands snagged there before smiling softly. Rolling her tongue in her mouth, she started to wrinkled her nose in distaste. There were loose hairs in her mouth and a couple stuck in her teeth.
Politely bowing her head as if to excuse her for a moment, she back away from the stallion and raised her wings to hide her next actions. She tried to get most of the loose hairs out of her mouth before she spat down on the ground away from the stallion, and out of view. Taking another moment to double check so it wouldn't bother her later on, she decided she got everything and lowered her wings and turned back to the stallion with an apologetic look.
Her eyes brightened when it seemed like the stallion understood her question. Her tail wagged a bit which sent her tail to uncurl and then spiral back into a loose curl. She tilted her head. It was always possible to run into another winged Soquili. She had seen a couple from a far distance flying the skies, but obviously flying towards a certain direction. She decided to just nod her head in agreement to what the stallion was saying.
Her expression changed to a more gloomy tone. She didn't think he was nasty at all! You could tell that he wasn't just being with him for 10 seconds. The mare quickly smiled and nodded. She was happy to be in presence of such a nice, and talkative Soquili. She was still excited he understood her question. She had no doubt in her mind that he wasn't "evil". She could just tell!

At first, Corsant was honestly confused when the mare moved away. Customs in different parts of the woods were different, he knew, but the purpose of walking off and raising one's wings was, to put it mildly, odd. His first thought was that the mare was moving off to answer nature's call, but obviously that wasn't it when she stopped a short distance away. Or was it? Not wanting to be perceived as rude, whatever she was doing, Corsant turned his own head away and started humming. Whatever she was up to, it wasn't his business.
His mother would be so proud of him!
He was actually proud of him as well; social graces had been Corsant's worst school subject, and there were times where he was sure he had been completely and utterly despaired of. What had been slightly awkward as a foal (minor, because ALL foals were awkward when you got down to it) had blossomed into a full-fledged problem as he grew and managed to alternately insult and intimate in the same breathe, most of the time without meaning to. It was a wonder he'd managed to keep ANY friends, even among his family.
Though his father had been a great help; Antony suffered from a similar brutal case of tactlessness, and he did his best to assist his son in overcoming that particular ailment. Unfortunately, Corsant was even more skilled than Antony, and his faux pas went beyond mere words...
Which is why Corsant was so industriously working to avoid saying or doing anything tacky, which was how he managed to completely miss when she turned back to him.
Apparently his methods needed work...

Aleshanee blinked, wondering what the stallion was thinking about. It only took a brief moment for her to spit out the unwanted hairs from her mouth, but when she finally looked up at the stallion again, his mind was somewhere else.
A smile appeared on her face and appeared as if she were laughing, but without a sound. Gather closer to the stallion, she looked at him and tried to see if she could gather his attention. It took several more moments until his eye focused and looked back to her. In return, she just smiled in greeting to him now that she had his attention again.
