Relatively unknown Psychedelic Rock band from Finland that released three albums between 1992-1995, before visionary Petri Walli jumped to his death from a church roof in Töölö, Helsinki, in 1995. Within their cult following, they were well known for their middle eastern themes, mysticism, and vivid psychedelia that they added to their blend of hard-edged Psychedelic Rock.

Personally, I find their first album to be their best, but I know a few who like the second one. Each on was named I, II, and III, so they're easy enough to remember.

You got the relatively unknown part, no offense meant, but I hadn't heard of them until today, but I still have to thank you, I think they're great.

Nothing offensive by your agreement with my statement, it just means that people who stick with mainstream music will never be able to appreciate them and us smart folk get all the enjoyment for ourselves. cool

Sad though just how few have actually heard of them. S'why I do my part to spread the word.

Yeah. So what other types of music do you listen to?

You'll not meet a bigger fan of Progressive Rock 'round these parts I daresay.

It's my number one favourite type of music.

Ah, I like anything with a guitar pretty much, from The Stones, to Metallica and onward, I'll listen to it.

Oh hey, I've actually heard of Kingston Wall before. I've only heard a few of their songs: Used to Feel Before, With My Mind, and I'm Not the One (first three songs on I). Though I like what I've heard of theirs.

Pretty good, but I honestly can't see myself really getting into them.

Then again, I've said that about a lot of bands I really love now, so you never know.

If you like Psychedelic or Progressive Rock, you damn well better like them or you are a false. talk2hand

If neither genre is your bag, then it's all good because then I could see where something like it wouldn't strike your interest. But then again, what really grabs me is the raw energy radiating from them, the fact that it's organic and has such a groove that you can proudly stand behind it without feeling even a hint of shame that really catches me.

That, and the fact that 'And I Hear You Call' has that Middle Eastern vibe. That right there sold the hell outta me.

They aren't bad by any means. They're just something I'd have to listen to a bit to get into. With My Mind and And I Hear You Call were really good.

I never really got into psych rock (the closest I ever got was some sludge, like BORIS), and prog is pretty hit and miss for me (I'm really into Portugal. The Man and The Dear Hunter right now).

What Prog have you listened to that really just didn't catch your interest?

The Other Half of the Sky

Mostly prog metal, actually. Dream Theater and Opeth and the like.

I was also never a big fan of a lot of older prog, like Yes, Styx, Rush (although I do listen to them a bit), Pink Floyd, etc. I do adore Jethro Tull and King Crimson (or what I've heard of them, at least).

Prog I really do like:
The Sound of Animals Fighting
Portugal. The Man
The Mars Volta (I used to be really big on them, but not so much now)
The Dear Hunter
An Endless Sporadic
The Fall of Troy (same story as TMV)

I'm actually a bit of a scrub when it comes to prog, quite honestly. Care to recommend something?

Well I can tell you right now that if you enjoy King Crimson you'll love Van der Graaf Generator. Old Prog or no, they're on the same level.

And do yourself a favor as well and check out Änglagård. I very often gauge the quality of a Prog fan's taste in Prog by whether they like Änglagård or not. dramallama

And as far as 'older Prog' is concerned, you do have to realize that there are all kinds of different types, like Symphonic Prog, Heavy Prog, Eclectic Prog, Crossover Prog, RIO, Avant-Prog, all spanning different ages. If I were you I'd go to town on ProgArchives and brush up on the subgenres, then find bands within the subgenres of the bands you know you like and go from there.

Like, for example, I have a feeling you'd really enjoy Eclectic Prog (King Crimson) and Crossover Prog (The Dear Hunter, The Mars Volta etc.)

I really feel like a scrub now.

Will post opinions on Anglagard later.
