So. I imagine that this kind of thread has been made rather often
but I'm bored as hell with this school work so there.

I'm one of those people that pretty much listens too music 24/7
(Insomnia causes that to be often quite accurate)
and I always like knowing what people like listening to and possible discover new bands
So=

What are your favourite:
bands/Singer?
(what sorts of music do they play? Example?)
Song?
Music genre?
Music time period (50's,70's and so on)?

And why do you like them?

Don't be afraid too post links to the songs =o

Bands/Singer= (I'm putting a link of some random song by most of these since I am so incredible bored right now, and making wild guesses too music genres since I'm not always sure.
Lord knows why I'm bothering to post links, most of these bands should be well known enough for everyone too regonice them)
Porcupine Tree
Slave Called Shiver
(Progresive/Psycadelic Rock? I like how very diverse they are, plus bouth their sound and lyrics are quite beautiful)
Tool
Stinkfist
(Alternitive Metal? I love the drum sound, and pretty much everything else about this band.)
A Perfect Circle
The Outsider
(Alternitive rock? Their music relaxes me :3 )
The Cardigans
Lovefool
(Because 90's Swedish pop music is awesome xD )
The Dresden Dolls
Girl Anachronism
(Punk Cabaret. Freaking Awesome.)
Tally Hall
Good Day
(Indie Rock/Fabloo Rock xD. Their music is whimsical. Which I like)
Gorillaz
(Is it even possible to dislike them? If not it should be.)
The Troggs
Black Bottom
(Rock. A band from the 1960's which I sort of grew up listening too.)
Unexpect
Chromatic Chimera (Love the random music at 1:04-1:15 Always make me want too dance =3 )
(Avant-garde extreme metal? Who knows! It's a confusing band! Which is why I like them. Some of their songs have a psyco-carnival thing going on which I adore.
The Cure
[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oOHQs405XcU]Lullaby (awesome creepy-ish song)
Just Like Heaven (This song always makes me want too do a silly little dance)
(Depends on the freaking CD, Gothic Rock/pop/post-punk/New Wave/whatever.
I like bouth their more depressing/darkish music and their more up-beat popish music. :] I like diversities in bands!)
Wednsday 13/Frankenstein Drag Queens From Planet 13
Scary Song
(Horror Punk. I honestly need no other reasong too like 'em. I just really like me some decent horror punk)
The Streets
Let's Push Things Forward
(Hip Hop/UK Garage. I like Hip hop, just not the whole "Gangstah" hip hop. I meant honestly. What the hell is up with that?)
Garbage
Queer
(Alternitive Rock/Pop/Whatever?. The Singer, Shirley Manson makes me question my straightness <3 )
Misfits
Saturday Night
(Horror Punk :] )
Kaizer's Orchestra
Tokyo Ice Clementine
Börn fra helvete
(Gypsy rock/whatever the hell it it? I think this is honestly the only non-metal Norwegian band I've ever listened too =/ And they are awesome)
Mindless Self Indulgence
Shut Me up (If for some odd reason you havent seen it then you should. Seriously.)
(Electropunk/and a whole mess of other things. They make me hyper as all hell)
She Wants Revenge
Tear You Apart
Out Of Control (One has too admire the bored way he says "OMG this is my favourit song"
(A sort of Dark Dance Rock Post Punk kinda thing? I like the amasingly monotone voice thing they've got going on. It's just amasingly groovy)
Modest Mouse
We've Got Everything
(Indie Space kinda rock I suppose. I have no idea why I like them. I just really do.)
Pixies
Here Comes Your Man
(Alternitive. They just give me major happy doses.)
The Raconteurs
Steady As She Goes
(Alternitive Rock? I love the guitar sounds.)
The White Stripes
Small Faces
Itchycoo Park
Lasy Sunday
(Psychedelic Pop/Rock from the 1960. Grew up listening too them and still love 'em)
The Fratellis
Tenacious D
I need no other reason then their awesomeness.
Björk
Earth Intruders
I Miss You
Possibly Maybe
Isobel
(Music genres all over the freaking place. Trip hop and electronica, folk and whatever. I like the wierdness? And her accented singing voice.)
Anthony Stewart Head
Legal Assasin
(He has a lovely voice.)
David Bowie
(It's David Bowie. 'Nough said.)
Damien Rice
9 Crimes
(Folk Rock. His music is lovely)
Nick Cave
Red Right Hand
The Carny
(Alternitive Rock/Post-Punk? The voice! It burns with its awesomeness)
Bonnie Tyler
Rob Zombie
Living Dead Girl
(Groove Metal? I like him for he is bouth cool and slightly silly)

Favourit song:
Brown Eyed Girl with Van Morrison.
It makes me all kinds of happy.
But it is closely followed by The Carny by Nick cave and The Bad Seeds.

Favourite Music Genre:
I pretty much like them all.
In my experience you can find something amazing in every genre.
But I supose I listen most to the Rock genres.

Fav. Time Period.
The 60's and 70's
I may not have many favourit bands from that time when compared to the more recent bands, but that's because I'm more into the individual songs then the artist from those times.

I'm also fond of the 50's.
And 80's rock is way cool. And 90's pop music.
I don't really like the pop music that began too creep forward in 2000.
=/

What are your favourite:
This is tough to pick one so let's start naming.
(By the way, klikk, high five on the Dresden Dolls, I love them)
Just going down my iTunes so these'll probably end up in alphabetical order, haha.
The Aquabats are pretty cool. They have a strange variety of songs from ska to weird electronic stuff to hell if I know what to call this.
Barenaked Ladies are okay. Kind of alternative rock, I don't really know what to call them. I only like a select amount of their songs. Running Out Of Ink has been stuck in my head the past two weeks.
Blitzen Trapper is a neo folk band, I think my step-brother called the genre that. Furr is my favorite song from them.
The Boy Least Likely To, I don't really know what genre to put them in. They almost sound like a children's band. Listening to them makes me happy. I'm Glad I Hitched My Apple Wagon To Your Star is a good one from them.
CAKE is a neat one. They're alternative rock, I suppose. Short Shirt/Long Jacket is my favorite song by them.
The Fratellis is a band I recently got into but I love. They're a Scottish alternative/indie rock band. (Though some of their songs sound kind of ska-y to me.) Creeping Up the Backstairs and Vince the Lovable Stoner are fun ones.
Goodnight Nurse are one of the few emo bands that I like. Death Goes To Disco is my favorite song from them.
Hellogoodbye is an electronic-y band. They were really popular a while ago with Here in Your Arms but I Saw it On Your Keyboard is another good one from them.
I Am Robot and Proud is "minimalistic electronic" as the friend who showed him to me calls him. When I Get My Ears is a pretty good example of what he does, I guess.
(Reminds me I gotta get some of that same friend's 8-bit music.)
Jimmy Eat World is an indie/alternative band. Always Be is a good one off my favorite album of theirs but The Middle is probably their most famous song.
The Killers are my favorite band. They're alternative rock. They've had a couple hits but I think Read My Mind is their best song.
Landon Pigg is indie pop(?). Falling in Love At a Coffee Shop by him has been in a couple commercials. Can't Let Go is a better example of what he does though.
Metric is a Canadian indue band. The whole album, Fantasies, by them is pretty good but Gimme Sympathy happens to be the song I found first.
Owl City is an electronic pop artist who recently gained popularity with Fireflies, but I'm one of those people that's doing one of those "Wait a second! I've known about this guy for a while!" right now so I'll give you Dear Vienna and Dental Care which are other good ones by him.
Pink Spiders are kind of fun, at first I thought they were an emo band from the first song I heard from them, Little Razorblade, but after listening to their album I found they're more poprock and Adalae just happens to be the first song that came to mind but doesn't really show what they do.
Reel Big Fish is another ska band. I think their best songs are their covers, since I get kind of bored with their original stuff. Kiss Me Deadly and Take On Me are pretty good ones.
Streetlight Manifesto is yet another ska band. Point/Counterpoint is my favorite song by them and still one of my favorite ska songs.
(I went through a brief stage where I listened to almost nothing but ska, I still think it's fun to listen and rock out too since I don't like my rock real hard)
Supertramp is an 80's progressive rock band. A while ago Gym Class Heroes took parts of their Breakfast in America to make a shitty cover that I still hate that band for. The Logical Song is my favorite song by Supertramp though.
We Are Scientists are an alternative rock band. After Hours I think is their most popular song.

Song?
I'm bad at picking favorite songs.
A lot of what would be my favorite songs are posted in the bands section so just click a couple of those.

Music genre?
I listen to alot of them.
But I mostly listen to alternative rock, electronic, classical, and ska.

Music time period (50's,70's and so on)?
I actually like the modern music.
For a while it seemed to be falling but I like the electronic stuff that's coming out.
(Also the new folk and indie)
The 80's were really fun too though.
One hit wonders, go!

What are your favourite bands/Singer:
Oh God...let's start making this list, and I'm going to exclude a bunch for the sake of tl:dr.
-Doomtree ((branching out from that, I can also say P.O.S. and Dessa)): One of the best underground rap groups I've ever come across, if not the best.
-Mute Math: Amazing Alternative Rock group. Their instrumentals might be my favorite part about them. Amazing piano work too.
-Dan le Sac vs. Scroobius Pip: UK hip-hop duo, very inspirational lyrics.
-Gorillaz: Because, it's ********' Gorillaz
-Innerpartysystem: Good ol' electronica.
-Panacea: Yet another great hip-hop duo. These guys have beautiful songs and lyrics. Whenever I'm in an artistic rut, listening to these fellas always helps me out of it.
-Modest Mouse: Not much to say here, these guys are just awesome. You've probably heard Float On at some point.
-Santigold: I'm not really sure what to even classify her as. Wikipedia says: Indie rock, New Wave, post punk, electronic, dub. Oh my. She's a very talented women, whenever you get the chance, definitely Google up some of her stuff.

Song: Google up some songs by these guys.

Music genre: I seemed to have transitioned into a great deal of hip-hop. Hmm.

Music time period: 90's-10's

And why do you like them: Because they make my ears smile.

Which is just silly seeing as how their music pretty much gives me seizures of happyness!
And I see we bouth like the Fratellis as well
:]
And Barenakes Ladies is fun every now and then.
Owl City is too. I'm also one of those people that already knew about them
=o
But I'm rather happy they are getting more regonition.
Since I've always feelt it's a shame when decent bends don't get noticed.

I've never really heard a bunc of the bands you posted
but after listening too those I had not heard
I've decided I need too check out
The Aquabats, The Boy Least Likely too, Cake , Metric,

That Point/Counterpoint is freaking catchy.
It's going to be stuck in my head for days now

That's weird that no one in Iceland knows them since I can name four or five of my friends off the top of my head that love them. rofl
They are so awesome that it is silly that more people in Iceland don't know them.
I only got into The Fratellis a couple weeks ago but I bought Costello Music and I love it.
It's such a fun album.

I'm glad Owl City is getting more recognition but I started cursing his fame when I had a friend on facebook who, for a month or so, made almost all his status updates Owl City lyrics.

Woo!
It's always fun to share the music.
The Aquabats are really fun, I don't think they're touring anymore but apparently when they were they used to have random battles on-stage with enemies and stuff because their thing was they were superheroes fighting the evils or bad music or something like that.
(I got into them after they broke up or whatever they did so they don't tour or make music anymore so this is all from things I've read.)

Point/Counterpoint gets stuck in my head too, it's okay. :>

I love Biffy Clyro's newer stuff. It's alternative, the lyrics are always great, and I love love love their Scottish accents smile

the golden rule - my fave song

Born on a horse - i love it cos of the lyrics and how unusual it is
I pronounce it Al-u-mi-ni-um, 'cause there's an I next to the U and M / now write it down slowly and read it out fast. / she's got eyes, preposterous eyes. / I've never had a lover who's my sister or my brother before

Know your Quarry - a slower very beautiful song. again absoluetly beautiful lyrics
When I was young, I first encountered my crippled lungs./ I felt them burn and cursed them ever since./ I was turning blue in a match right in front of you/ and I slithered to the floor. Hope I score some more.

Song?

Oh my gawd this changes every day. Literally. i'll post up some of my favourites in a bit :p

Music genre?

I'd say Rock/Metal. I like lots of different types of sub-genres in rock. I'm usually drawn to more nu-metal stuff in that i like things which mix different types of music together and a** a twist. But more traditional modern rock, country-ish rock, gothic rock, metal-metal...meh lots. lol

I'm also being more drawn to drum and bass/electronic kind of music, like The prodigy, pendulum and Hadouken -- I love how they have a rocky feel but mix in the electronic elements I love.

Finally I like some pop, if it's unusual and has some oomfh behind it.
Same with some classical. i'm especially drawn to violins, chellos and pianos.

Music time period (50's,70's and so on)?

My absolute favourite time period (apart form modern, obviously) is the 80s. I just adore the sound and look of that whole time period musically. Even the bad stuff was great.
I prefer 80s pop to 80s rock, generally. Again i like the electronic stuff.

early 90s stuff is ok. I can appreciate the cheesiness and I like the rock from this period too

And why do you like them?

What are your favourite bands?
That's an easy one! My favourite band OF ALL ******** TIME is EASILY The Devil Wears Prada. I look forward to getting their music stuck in my head. They play metalcore, which is basically screamo. The screams are wicked, the guitars are solid, and it's just an overall wonderful band. Sure, I don't care for their message much, considering that I'm not Christian, but I don't like them for their message. Their music is amazing. :3 My other favourite bands are Underoath, A Skylit Drive, and HIM, but I also have many more.

Song?
At the moment, it's Dreams by We Came as Romans.

Music genre?
Metalcore. :3

Music time period (50's,70's and so on)?
2000 onward. This is when the emo movement (as I like to call it) first began, and when I thought emo was cool. Now, it's just... bloated. xD

Bands/Singer: Bring Me The Horizon. I get into a really good mood when listen to them, and possibly start dancing. Their music is...Metal, I think? It's basically screamo. Haha.
