The Oboro Mission

In the year 2749, a dispute rose within the United Nations. By that time, the United Nations managed several secret organizations. One of which was a group of scientists known as Crew Nine. No one is exactly sure what happened, but disagreements within Crew Nine caused a split in the scientists. Most foreign scientists left the organization to form their own, known as Rumble.

A short time after that, major attacks were landed on American soil, killing thousands of civilians. Crew Nine stepped forward, declaring that the party responsible for the attack was the foreign group of scientists, Rumble who were enacting their revenge on the Americans for their disagreements within the United Nations.

Within a short amount of time, World War III had broken out. Nuclear bombs were launched and new weapons that had not yet been tested were being rushed to the battlefield. As the months carried on, millions of people died and soon the Earth could take no more.

Chaos broke out on Earth as people began to flee the planet in escape pods. Many fled to the moon colonly, the Eclipse, while others fled to the colony on Mars, Atropos. Crew Nine soon became the leading military force for Eclipse while Rumble became the same for Atropos. Still enraged with each other, the two colonies don't communicate very frequently.

Although there are rumors towards Crew Nine's intentions, the people rely on them to return Earth to its stable condition so the people can once again return to their home. In order to do this, they must fight off attacks from Rumble, as well as mysterious creatures called Seras, by using advanced weapons known as Furies. The Furies can only be opperated by highly trained pilots.

These pilots were trained from the early stages of their life to pilot the Furies. The blindly serve Crew Nine and its purposes. It has been told to them that saving humanity is their priority one. However, one question remains in the air for when they discover the truth:

Will they still find humanity worth saving?

Setting

Our story will take place on a rather large star ship known as the Oboro that remains in space near the Eclipse Colonly. This will be an outline of what's where. We may make maps later on...
Hint: For technology purposes, think Star Wars... just no lightsabers...

The ship has several levels. Mostly, all you really need to know is that there is the control room, which only authorized people are allowed in, bed-chambers, a mess hall, hygeine chambers, many machinary rooms, training rooms, simulatin rooms, and hangars.

The bedrooms are rather small, with a single set of twin bunk beds and two small cubbies with curtains. These cubbies are your "closets". All rooms are like this except for the higher-up characters that are part of Crew Nine. Almost everything here, like on most of the ship, is made of metal (except your matresses and stuff; use common sense).

The Mess Hall is like your basic highschool cafeteria. There are quite a few long tables with benches and about four lines with four different meals being served from back in the kitchen. No one except higher-ups get special treatment here.

The Hygeine Chambers are like a standard public wash house. Mostly everything in made of metal and there's a door to each shower stall that's about a foot high off the ground, covering about three and a half feet of space, and then open at the top. There are cubbies in these chambers with towers and bath supplies. There are also small rooms barely big enough to stand in where the toilets are. They have sliding metal doors on them. These chambers have about ten shower stalls each.

The Control Room is closed off from the rest of the ship. It's a large dome-shaped room with glass as the front portion of it's walls (like a wind shield). There are three rows of panels with all sorts of controls; the captain's seat is at the top center of the first row and it's the biggest chair. In the top center of the glass is a screen where they can make communications with other places. The back wall which the door is on has a ton of computer systems on it.

The Simulation Rooms are large dome-shaped rooms closed it, lit by florescent lights. These rooms have the ability to re-create themselves into almost any training scenerio. For those of you who've seen X-Men, they're a lot like the Danger Room. The walls in this room are light blue and they glow.

The Training Rooms are things like shooting ranges or gyms. Any type of training you could possibly need, there's probably a room for it. All of these rooms are on the same level of the ship. Which one? I don't know because I don't feel like organizing all this stuff right now!

The Hangars and Mechanic's Rooms are basically large open places with tools and equipment everywhere. Usually the mechanic's rooms are branched off of the main hangars. There's all sorts of minor aircraft within then Oboro, just in case we need to send troops into flight, or simply abandon ship.

Important Terms

These are words that were made for this Rp, or, words that already existed that had personalized definitions for this rp. You might want to look at these...

Crew Nine: This is a secret organization from America that controls all sorts of weaponry, labs, military issues, and any communications with Earth. They've been involved in a lot of questionable acts and several people doubt them, while they have many deticated followers too. What it seems like they're doing: Trying to stop the hazards from Earth reaching the Eclipse Colony. What they're actually doing: Investigating and experimenting with activity on Earth. Other than that, what they do is a huge mystery.

Rumble: This is the organization opposing Crew Nine. What their motives are for doing so are unclear. They use basic mechs and star ships to stalk Crew Nine's progress with their experiments on Earth. It is rumored that they're trying to steal military secrets from them and over throw them to become the major support power for the Eclipse. Rumble is mostly made up of foreign powers.

Eclipse Colony: This is the lunar colony created as an experiment, however, after WWIII, it was used as a last resort to save some of the people on Earth. It's run like an air force base and everything is made of metal. It's a floating colony above the moon, closed in while scientists inside develope food, oxygen, water, and other necessities for living inside. The people on the Eclipse Colony live normal lives, only many of the older adults remembering the chaos from the escape from Earth. Most of that is attempted to be kept on the low, but there are a ton of rumors reguarding the false history taught in the classrooms. Contradictions in historical events have given birth to laws that forbid the communication between the Eclipse and Atropos.

Atropos: This is the Mars colonly originally created to see if we could make Mars into a second Earth. Like the Eclipse, it was not yet ready for life when refugees began to arrive. Unlike the Eclipse, it isn't a completely metalic world. Ture, there are the first cities on it that are built indoors with small green houses for oxygen support, but as time progresses, small "farms" began to appear and individual housing. Houses are constructed mostly of metal considering supplies such as woods are now scarce. Many of these people on Atropos live peaceful lives, but they have knowledge about WWIII that those on Eclipse do not. Because of this, they are not allowed to communicate with those living on the other colony.

Oboro: This is the ship where Crew Nine resides along with it's specialized military and the growing six pilots. It's used to monitor Earth and serve Crew Nine's purposes, but to everyone else, it's just home. This is also our major "setting". They only land at the Eclipse Colony once a year to gather supplies, then it's back to space with them!

Furies: These are the special weapons developed by Crew Nine that only the pilots can use. They range from simple guns to huge robots. They come in six different colors, pending on the pilot. There's also a danger limit to how much the pilot can take while using these. The Furies have to match up with the pilot's body and mind or else it could lead to insanity or death (It's a lot like the concept of the Pilots and Eva's in Neon Genesis Evangelion). They can me handled manually but htey are much more effective if htey are channeled into the thoughts and emotions of the pilot.

Pilots: There are only six of these. They are teens ranging from 15-18 years old that have been training since they wer toddlers to use the Furies. These teens range in personality; they aren't all emotionally scarred zombies or anything. They ALL must have respect for their commanding officers. Despite their personalities, they all must do as their told. Since they were taken in by Crew Nine to work the weaponry, they haven't had much of a regular schooling. Not that they are dumb, but if they know anything other than what they need to know about the Furies, they've taught it to themselves. Training time is very important. They're also kept in the dark as to Crew Nine's plans. All they know is that they're doing what they've been brought up to do, and that's fight.

Seras: These beings are a huge mystery. No one had ever heard from them before until after WWIII when everyone fled Earth. It seems that these creatures have inhabited our abandoned planet and don't plan on letting us return. At one point in time, they begin making their way into space in attempts to attack the Eclipse Colony. (These are monsters that are to be NPC's. They have no personality, they've just got a one track mind and that's seek and destroy.) They range in size and appearance as well as ability.

The Furies

This is going to describe the weapons issued by Crew Nine especially for the six pilots' use. All furies are custom to the pilot by color and minor designs. The general build of each Fury is basically identical though. All pilots have what we call a "Sync Ratio" which is basically how well the pilots' mental states connect with their Furies. The same principle is used in Neon Gensis Evangelion. The sync. system and the way the humanoid Furies are ran is very similiar to that in the anime (they sit in small pods in the fluid that allows them to breathe. The fluid is how they sync.). It is also what helps them opperate their Furies on instinct. They can trigger things based on how they feel instead of taking the time tomanually opperate the machinary.

HM70s: This was the first humanoid unit issued by Crew Nine. They're roughly 40 feet tall and extremely heavy. This earlier model is a lot heavier than the later models, but it's stronger when it comes to the amount of force in its attacks and it can also withstand more damage.

HM90s: This is the second, more popular humanoid unit. They're a lot lighter and more compact, being less bulky and standing only at 25 feet high. These mechs are more lithe than the former model, haking them easier to manuver, although they can't withstand as much damage and may be more dangerous for the pilot to survive in.

RS60s: This is a smaller "hand held" Fury, if you will. The Right-arm System is a Fury that extends the entire length of the pilot's right arm. This unit not only acts as armor, but it has several points where it fuses with the pilot's actual arm. Near the top of the RS60, there are four small holes near the base of the shoulder. Out of these holes extend long vine-like extentions that are actually controlled by the pilot's brain. They can be used as "go-go gadget" arms, or as whips. Near the wrist of the RS60 extend two small barrells. These are actually automatic machine guns, also triggered by the pilot's brain.

LS80s: The LS80 was later issued after the RS60, basically being the same in every way, only the LS80 is the Left-arm System. The LS80 however has proved to be more difficult to sync with due to the fact that most of the pilot's are right handed. However, this Fury is more of an advantage to those who may be left handed. Both the LS80 and the RS60 can be used at the same time, but only by the pilots with the highest sync. ratios. If a pilot attempts to sync with the two furies at once, it could be dangerous to their health.

HD360s: This "Head Sytem" appears to be a a clear helmet, but it actually blends with the pilot's mental state as well as the nervous system. It allows the pilot to have 360 degrees of vision around them. It also enables a small about of what may appear to be telekinesis. In front of the eye's on the inside is a small screen that displays data for the pilot. On the outside, there are two small points where solar light is condensed and shot as lazor beams. These are the latest models released and the pilots are still trying to get used to them.

Weapons and Accessories

Vibranium Weapons- Vibranium is a metallic alloy used in the creation of edge weapons for the mecha of Crew Nine because of it's unique ability to become sharper and deadlier when infused with energy current. Vibranium weapons come in four forms: Sword, Axe, Lance, and Dagger. Each weapon possesses no uses besides their most basic and obvious ones, but are fully collapsible and able to be stored in a compartment hidden within both models' right thigh.

Achilles Class Assault Rifle/ RPG Launcher- This weapon is a heavy duty assault rifle that fires kinetic-bullets or RPGs with three different modes of fire: Automatic, Burst Fire, and Grenade. It has a magazine of twenty 25mm rounds and a secondary clip of 3 RPGs. It is a powerful multi-purpose weapon, but it's not very accurate in the hands of one who doesn't know how to use it. To compensate, a computerized aiming system has been installed into each model. The Achilles is designed for medium-close confrontations, and it’s 25mm rounds show sharp ballistic drop by early long range.

Pheonix Class Combat Rifle- The Pheonix Class Combat Rifle fires a hybrid two-stage 40mm rounds that are first chemically propelled and then magnetically propelled. This system of hybrid-gauss rifle allows for lower impulses than the standard 40mm cannon. This weapon does more damage per shot than the Achilles Class and is more accurate at medium-long ranges and carries a twenty round magazine. Unfortunately due to concerns about overheating it can only be fired in semi-automatic, and also due to its weight and recoil, it may only be used by the HM70 Class Furie.

Mjolnir Class Sniper Rifle- The Mjolnir is named after the Greek God Thor’s hammer, which had the power to cast lightning bolts at his enemies. In the same way the Mjolnir casts pure energy in the form of a Coherent Light beam, or laser, at long ranges towards it’s target. It is a bolt action weapon in the sense that for durability purposes the user must manually pull the vent-door open between each shot to allow the weapon to cool. It has an almost infinite clip as it feeds off of the power source of the Furie that uses it. Due to the extreme long ranges that the weapon can be used at; it includes advanced optics for targeting at many miles away through light cover. Due to it's weight, it can only be used with the HM70.

Vulcan Class Combat Shotgun- The Vulcan is short range weapon that packs a powerful destructive punch. Like a normal shotgun, the shells release many BB sized pellets to pepper a target. But the Vulcan discharges exploding orbs about the size of a softball. The Vulcan is pump action and can only fire four shots before it must be reloaded.

Hellfire Class Missile Launcher- The Hellfire is a siege weapon designed to be fired at a distance, the missiles this weapon uses are used to take out installations and larger targets like ships and fortresses. The Hellfire can launch three types of guided missiles: Cluster Fire for multiple soft targets and light armor, Napalm for soft targets and cover clearing, and Armor Piercing for hard targets.

(For use later in the RP for heavy class Furies only)

Phalanx Class Assault Gun- The Phalanx fires standard 30mm rounds through a Gatling system, or six rotating barrels. This gives it high accuracy when fired from the stable HM110 (or whatever you’ll call it) platform at medium-long ranges. While no more powerful than the Achilles Class in theory, the extra rounds make it far more devastating. It fires from a four thousand round clip.

Zeus Class Rocket Launcher- The Zeus Class fires small unguided rockets towards the enemy that explode on impact with any solid target. Individually the weapon’s rockets do no more damage than the Mjolnir Class, however due to the way the Rocket Pod is positioned, in a square box-shape on one of the shoulders, it can launch up to 50 rockets in one huge volley. This causes massive damage to a wide area making it great for siege-support.

Armageddon Class 155mm Cannon- It quickly became clear that while Furies were powerful weapons, they were still vulnerable to heavy weapons fire. Their large size and the relative limitations of armor made it impossible for them to withstand a direct hit to a vital point by a Main-Battle Tank main gun. Further while powerful, most Furie weapons could not easily penetrate the heavy armor on a tank before they were able to at least fire one round down range, and with advanced targeting software these normally hit. Seeing the need for a powerful anti-tank weapon, Crew-nine developed the Armageddon Class for the HM110 to provide heavy support fire against heavy targets. The 155mm cannon is a large and powerful gun with advanced targeting software to allow for accuracy, however it’s rate of fire is low as it fires from a two round clip in a slow semi-automatic manner.

Kim sat in the cafeteria slowly eating her lunch. She had a window seat, looking out at the stars. Inthe distance, she could see a now brown-colored Earth. There was so much smog and radioactivity in the planet's atmosphere that the land was almost impossible to see all those many miles away. Instead, her young life had been confined to space. She barely had memories of Earth, having been only two years old when Crew Nine had picked her form an orphanage to go into space. She'd spent her whole life since then training to pilot the Amethyst Fury unit, and had been, for three years now, going on routine space missions.

Even with the excitement of piloting one of the Furies, Kim still got bored being trapped on the Oboro all the time. She loved those days when they were able to dock on the Eclipse colony to gather supplies. Those "Market Days" were the highlight of nearly the entire crew's month. Luckily, today was one of those days. In about two hours, they would be docking and Kim would get to escape her metal prison and venture out amoung the civilians. That meant she'd have time to shop and flirt with the local boys. With the thought of that, a smirk spread across her face and she then lost herself in her day dreaming about her day off.

However, her day dreams were soon interrupted as her trainer, Conrad Martinez, sauntered by. The attractive Latino man leaned over her shoulder to spy her meal. "You've got too many carbohydrates here," he said, pointing down at her plate. Snatching up her fries, he placed them on his own tray. "HEY!" Kim whined, spinning in her seat to give a rather distressed look to her trainer. "You know the rules, Kimmy," Martinez said, popping a fry into his mouth. "Aw, c'mon, Conrad!" she protested again. "Sorry, Kim, no can do. We have to keep you on your diet if you want to pilot the Fury." Kim turned back in her seat, popping a baby carrot into her mouth. "Yeah, yeah," she muttered. "By the way, we're docking in a couple of hours and I want to get some training in before then," he added.

Kimberly turned to look at him again, wide-eyed. "But... That means I'll hardly have time to shower before we dock, if I get any time at all! I can't go shopping smelling like a man!" she exclaimed. Again, Conrad grinned. "You're one of the elite guard to protect all those civilians, little lady. You're concern shouldn't be with flirting and buying meaningless accessories." And with that, the trainer walked off to have his own lunch with othe rofficers, leaving Kim fuming with a small plate of carrots and a half eaten sandwich.

Jack...
Jack.....
Jack...come home...

It was easy to forget that he was not born on Earth and yet the memories seemed all too real. The whispers when no one was around and the odd sensations when asleep. It could be just battle psychosis kicking in after the last mission to Earth. Frontline work tend to do that even to the most balanced person. Eventually fighting those creatures with just your gun, a flak vest and sheer guts made anyone jumpy. Eventually he was rotated back to the ship and now he was standing inside cafeteria guarding it.

Kauser....
Kauser.....

KAUSER.!!!

Col. DeSilva loomed over the soldier with a snarl on his face as his face seemed to be an unnatural shade of red. " You slop headed spunk monkey! What in god's green earth do you think your doing?!" He snarled as he had seen Jack drift off and fall asleep while standing. " You are the saddest excuse for a goddamm marine in this man's army and if we didn't need soldiers I'd shove you out an airlock without a suit! " The marine flinched considerably under the stare of his CO. " Drop and give me fifty and sound off like they clank, boy!" Dropping his rifle he instantly obeyed as he shouted out the numbers. Col. DeSilva circled around and put his boot on his back to force him to the ground. " I'm gonna make a man out of you yet even if I have to kill you! Hump that floor like it's a man and maybe it'll teach you to stay awake!" The colonel was well known for being hard on his soldiers cause he expected the best. Jack was done and stood up panting as the Colonel gripped his collar. " If I catch you asleep again I'm going to rip your eyes out and shove them up your a** so you pay attention with I'm kicking the s**t out of you."

Blinking as one of the colonels began yelling at a soldier, Kim bobbed and weaved her head through the crowded cafeteria to try and see what the commotion was. When she spotted the disgruntled officer standing over a man doing push ups, her brow caved in as a sympathetic frown spread across her lips. It was that Jack Kauser again. That soldier was only a few years older than her; they were all still adolescents but they never got a break. Or, Kim never got a break and Jack was often caught stealing breaks. Still, she was glad to be a Fury pilot and not your average marine. That was for damn sure.

Getting up, she sauntered over to the trash can and dumped her tray and then wandered over to where the officer was still yelling at poor Jack. "Excuse me, Sir. Officer Martinez asked me to select a marine for my training excersizes today. I hope you don't mind if I steal Private Kauser, here, do ya?" she asked, knowing that she'd more than likely get her way. The ordinary marine officers were informed that the Fury pilots were the most important people aboard the Oboro just below the Crew Nine officers. Anything they wanted, the marines were ordered to comply with. Even though Kim was making up the story about needed Jack, she just felt sorry for him and thought he might like to get off of guard duty for a bit.

It was widely believed among the marines that Colonel DeSilva would not smile even for his own mother. Here he stood red faced attempting to force a grin into a face that simply was not equiped for it. " Yes ma'm. That is if Private Kauser can remain awake that is." The Colonel gave Jack a sharp look and gestured to the young girl. " You know the rules and I expect you to follow them. That include no women and if I catch you breaking another rule you're going to be cleaning toliets with your tongue." With that the Colonel stormed off to chew someone else up.

Jack let out a sigh and looked to the girl with his sleepy eyes. " Thanks. No one's stood up for me before. Umm.. " His hand raised and he ran it through his hair after removing his helmet. " Gosh.. I dunno what to say. Can I buy you lunch or something for your trouble? " He looked like he was going to pass out from laziness. " I guess I should be more careful huh?" He smiled sheepishly.

Kimberly smiled and cupped her hands behind her back. "I've actually just finished my lunch and if i ate anything else, Officer Martinez would knock me senseless. We do need to get out of here and find somewhere to go before you C.O. finds out I was fibibng. I'm Kim, by the way. Kimberly Carta. I pilot the Amethyst Fury, at least whenever they actually let us into the things," she said, rolling her eyes as she placed her hands on her hips. However, she quickly decided to march out of the mess hall and into the large shiney metallic corridor. "I do have some training excersizes to do soon, but I need to at least let my food settle first. Want to go see the Fury?" she asked him.

It wasn't often that anyone outside of the higher ranks of Crew Nine, besides the pilots and mechanics of course, got to see the Furies up close. Kim had a habit of loving to show hers off though. Not only did she have a newer, sleaker model but the purple color of the giant mech was her favorite one. Lucky for her that it chose her. She was sure that the robots could be painted but it was still luck regardless that Unit 6 just so happened to be the one she bonded with. As the two of them walked, Kim sighed. "Sounds like our rules are pretty similar. I'm really not supposed to spark any general interest in guys, like you're not really allowed to fraternize with girls. Whenever I go out on Market Days I usually have to have an escort. Martinez is sorta protective over me too because he basically raised me," she explained, tossing her light blonde hair over her shoulder.

Jack snorted in amusement as he steadied his rifle on his back and adjusted the straps. " Sure. I wouldn't mind checking it out. We rarely get a chance to see anything up close...cept the enemy that is." Jack said with a bit of sarcasm etched in his voice. " I don't terribly hate the Colonel cause he's really a great leader. He does that cause us grunts are pretty much at the bottom of the barrel when it comes to politics so he'd rather chew us out then let someone else do it." Jack nodded slightly as he adjusted his helmet before it threatened to slide off his head. " Most of the time we're right in the middle of it when the mechs show up and finish the job. " He shrugged as they continued walking down the hall. " I dont dislike mecha pilots like the other guys. We're all on the same team I think and no one group is gonna win on it's own."

Pausing briefly he turned to look at her with that sleepy look in his eyes. " Eventually they'll start giving us new gear and then we'll be in the papers and videos. I heard they got those Marauder suits going though. You know the one's for the infantry guys like me. Supposed to be safer and semi-powered so we could carry better weapons and such." It was an odd statement as that was a pretty heavily classified thiing for a simple marine to know about. Yawning a bit Jack grinned sheepishly before speaking again. " So you guys too huh? Not like I've been with a woman anyways but whatever. It'd be nice to like date a girl or something but the Colonel's rules are iron clad. Doesn't want us distracted by thinking of things like having a life outside of the corps. Most of the other marines grip but then they sneak off on leave to brothels and stuff."
