Rider Name: F’al
Given name: Fealty
Rider Age: 20
Rider Gender: Male
Rider Sexuality: Homosexual, but not really that interested
Rider History: F’al, much to his chagrin, was born with the name Fealty. He had one elder brother, Justice, and subsequently acquired a sister who was named Charity, and another brother named Courage. His family was fairly affluent, and so when Fealty showed intelligence as a young child he had access to the best tutors available and all the scrolls he could read. While his parents liked the idea of him being bright, really they wanted him to go into smithcrafting when he turned thirteen. Fealty failed to live up to his name and refused to go; listening to the loud banging of hammers all day was not his style, he said. This did not make him popular. Only a month after his refusal, a Searchrider arrived and selected him as a candidate. Though not desperately fond of riders, his parents were happy enough to get him out of the house and so off Fealty went.
At first life at a Weyr as opposed to a hold almost overwhelmed him, but as months passed he began to settle into the rhythm of life. He did not, however, really settle into making friends. While the other candidates generally spent their downtime socializing, Fealty spent it studying. He had no particular area of interest, and found information on the making of parchment as fascinating as lore on dragons. The average candidate probably considered him a bit of an odd ball from day one, and didn't change their opinion much over the turns. Yes, the turns. Turns, and turns, and turns he stood for every clutch laid on the sands but every dragonet passed him by. At first it didn't bother him too much, he was just happy to be at the Weyr at all, but as time crept by he began to worry that he would never be chosen, and would eventually have to return to his family in disgrace.
With his twenty-first name day now just around the corner, and therefore only one or two chances left, hopelessness is beginning to take hold. He cannot face the idea of not being chosen, but knows very well that there is nothing he can do to swing the odds in his favour. The only thing left to do is stand as he has stood for every clutch, and hope to goodness his dragon hatches at long last.
Rider Personality: Sorry, you’re just not as smart as F’al; he’s not being rude about it, it’s just a fact you should accept. You’re probably not as socially awkward as F’al is either. He has no idea about tact, and though he’s read scrolls about diplomacy he certainly doesn’t know how to practice it. He definitely doesn’t have a way with words; if he’s not suffering from a severe bout of lethologica (it means I can’t remember the word I want, simpleton), he’s unintentionally spouting double entendres, being too blunt about sensitive issues, or annoying people by coming off as superior and aloof. Not too good at reading people, he’s seldom aware he’s put his foot in it until somebody get outright angry with him, or until Dith gives him an nudge and tells him he’s being daft again.
F’al enjoys learning and work, and throws himself into lessons with great enthusiasm. He’s always the one with his hand up to answer a question, and the first to glare at anyone making a distraction. Leader material however F’al definitely is not. He may be really very intelligent and possessing a strong work ethic but he can’t think on the spot to save his life, and has no charisma whatsoever. He isn’t too phased by this however, and so long as his leader is competent he’ll follow without question. If he thinks they’re an idiot, however, he’ll bring the matter up with one of their superiors; he has no intention of getting himself or his lifemate hurt because of stupid orders. He’d feel comfortable as a second in command if such a role was ever offered to him, but it isn’t a life ambition for him; he’d rather spend time expanding his knowledge of the world than elbow his way into such a post. He dislikes people who do jostle for position in that fashion, and feels the same contempt for people who think he should respect them just for the colour of their dragon or for their rank; obeying them in drills doesn’t mean he thinks well of them.
Provided there is a plan of action F’al remains icy cool in a crisis, and if there is a good enough reason to do so he’ll risk his neck without flinching. It would, however, have to be a seriously good reason for him to put Dith in danger; he is very protective of his lifemate and won’t tolerate anyone speaking ill of him. As he can’t fight physically and lacks the quick tongue to win arguments however, he is usually just left seething if anyone is really determined to make fun of his dragon. Though he viciously defends, or attempts to defend, his lifemate from anything unkind anyone else might have to say, F’al is perfectly happy to tease Dith mercilessly himself. The insults and jabs fly both ways with great frequency, and though their words might be unkind everything said is in jest; the pair absolutely adore one another. In F’al’s case, the jabs are his main way of expressing affection; he’s never been good at saying ‘I love you’ but ‘I hate you’ is easy and he knows that Dith knows what he means, and is happy to leave it at that.
In general, F’al is not a people person; he would like to be, but most people don’t seem to like him all that much for some mysterious reason. Though his bond with Dith is more than enough to make him happy, he would enjoy having human friends as well and with his dragon’s help is beginning to make an effort to be less of an unbearable tailfork, as the brown so kindly puts it. When it comes to romantic relationships however he’s not that fussed at all. Physically his preference is for men, but he’s not really interested in hunting out bedfellows either; if given a choice between a hot date and hanging out with Dith, his dragon would win every time.
Rider Appearance: Short and a little on the chubby side, F’al doesn’t look too much like what people see in their mind’s eye when you say dragonrider. His hair is non-descript blond, fine, and flyaway; he keeps it fairly short, but doesn’t pay enough attention to keep it looking anything like sharp and orderly. Perhaps the only remarkable thing about him to look at are his eyes, these being an intense pale blue. They tend to look a little far away though, F’al spends quite a lot of time wrapped up in his own thoughts and needs a good reason to concentrate on the world around him. Somewhat on the cuddly side though he is F’al is fairly fit; fit enough to keep up with his duties without difficulty, but he’ll never be one of those at the head of the pack when running laps.
Dragon Name: Dith
Dragon Color: Brown
Dragon Appearance: Dith is the colour of dark chocolate and unmarked. His eyes are usually a good-humored green. He is fairly long and tall for a brown, but his build is wirily tough rather than the sturdy make up the bulk of his kind possess.
Dragon Personality: Good humored, patient, and laid back, Dith is pretty difficult to ruffle by and large. He takes life with a pinch of salt, an amused rumble, and a self-deprecating jest. He doesn’t mind being the butt of the joke day in day out if it makes other people smile; calmly self-assured he doesn’t take any amount of teasing to heart. Of the firm belief that most of life shouldn’t be taken too seriously, Dith does his best to break tense situations by any means necessary whether this be cracking a joke, making a silly noise, or generally making a fool of himself. Dignity is for other dragons; he’d rather just be happy, and see others happy. He loves people, be they human or dragon, and speaks quite freely humans other than his lifemate. Especially fond of children - anyone still young enough to Impress in his mind - when F’al is otherwise occupied Dith will often be found playing with any weyrbrats or candidates who have the time and the inclination.
When it comes to time to work his jovial attitude disappears and Dith becomes an all together more serious dragon, he’s quick to tell off who’s messing around; almost anything else in life is worth laughing over, but learning to fight the Thread is no joke. Whatever needs to be done in the line of duty Dith will do, though like F’al he’d really rather like to be able to leave his opposite number somewhere safe if danger is going to be involved. Dith believes in hard work for its own sake rather than in pursuit of power; he’d accept appointment to a position of rank if it were offered - provided F’al was happy to accept as well - but isn’t interested in joining the scrum for prestigious posts. He’ll do his work, he’ll do it well, but he won’t kiss any backsides and could happily go through life without achieving a position of command. His lack of concern with rank extends to how he treats those who possess it too; he’ll treat the senior gold, the weyrleader’s bronze, and their riders the same way he’ll treat green and blue dragons and riders of no rank: with kindness, and an assumption of equality. Telling him he is not equal to another dragon, or that His is not equal to another rider, brings out a really rather nasty side to him; he will do his very best to rip whoever spoke to verbal shreds and shard the consequences.
Provided nobody is saying they're better than him and his however Dith is a sensible, paternal, compassionate sort; he’s an excellent listening ear, and will do his best to help you sort out your problems even if getting into them was your own stupid fault. The downside of this aspect of his personality is a tendency to interfere in problems that are none of his business; if you have a problem, clearly you need him to help you. The idea that some people would rather just be left alone or want to solve their issues without his input has never occurred to him; he is sure that nobody has as much sense as he does, and that without his involvement they’d never get anywhere. This trait also leads him to be rather nosy, after all if he doesn’t know what’s going on in your life how does he know if you need his help or not? Of course, you probably do, everybody needs Dith to look after them, how silly of you think otherwise!
When he’s not trying to solve people’s problem’s for them or laughing at himself, Dith is a huge tease. He generally only pokes fun at people who know him well enough to know he’s just jesting, but does occasionally manage to upset somebody by mistake. As soon as he realizes he has, he will apologize profusely and find a way to make it up to them if he can. The only person he is really merciless with however is his bondmate; he enjoys getting the best of his friend in wordplay, mostly because he knows that F’al is much clever than he is and it makes him feel rather smug to be the victor. While he enjoys trying to follow the workings of his lifemate’s mind a great deal - who doesn’t like a challenge? - it is nice to come out on top some of the time. Unlike F’al, Dith is very free with words of affection; he never hesitates to tell people exactly how much they mean to him and isn’t even remotely embarrassed about it. Once he is old enough Dith will enjoy mating flights a great deal as much for the thrill of chasing as the hope of winning, and will go after any female that rises; he'll never have favourites. Catching a girl is always nice, but losing is no big deal so far as he sees it; after all, you can’t take life too seriously, now can you?
Why did this dragon choose this rider?: Dith and F’al share great confidence in themselves, but neither longs for a position of power or has any great awe of their superiors. They are also similar in their attitude to work; learning and improving themselves is important, neither could have put up with a partner who was lackadaisical about duty. Dith enjoys F’al’s intelligence, and his willingness to tease and be teased a great deal, and F’al is grateful for Dith’s chattyness and skills with people. Dith loves the fact that F'al needs him so very much when it comes to social situations; somebody is no longer speaking to him for reasons he isn't quite clear on? Dith will fix it, or try his best to at any rate. Both rider and dragon, over time, will also become glad that the other isn't interested in forming romantic relationships with their own kind; they will depend on having the other pretty well at their beck and call, and wouldn't be able to stand the idea of another person seriously competing for their bondmate's time.
