  Two eggs were wrapped up and safely carried in a soft pouch full of warm sand as Jada moved about the Weyr in search of Y'kar. She had something for him and something for his dragon, Kannaroth. Well, in truth, both were for Kannaroth, given her affection she'd had for Jadamirei's own firelizards. Maybe two of their own wouldn't be frowned on, should Y'kar be able to hatch them both. Hopefully an adolescent green dragon and two young flits wouldn't be too much for him. He was, however, a very intelligent man. Yes, he and Kannaroth would do well with the eggs. She bit her lip, blue eyes narrowing as she tried to spot either the dragon or her rider.

Out by the hot springs, he watched her soar. She was glorious in flight, more glorious with each passing day as she mastered the use of her wings. No longer would people sneer at her for being so very small, they would see how her size made her all the quicker and more elegant...
In theory.
In practice, people would still find things to gripe about, still did find things to gripe about. At least the weyrling master saw how incredible the three greens were, even if he didn't liek admitting it he had to see it. Smarter, stronger, faster, or some combination thereof than most any green you cared to name. The other two couldn't quite match Kannaroth of course; where her sisters shone like stars on a clear night his lifemate blazed like a forest fire. Awesome, powerful, frightening as the Thread if you got in her way.
Grinning to himself, the scrawny young man lounged back on the bank and watched the living emerald loop neatly around a diving brown. Nothing could ever match her, nothing in all of Pern.

When she looked up and saw a familiar flash of green, Jada decided she could kick herself for not even bothering to look there! She broke into a careful run, trying to get there faster.
By the time she got to the springs, the short job had her red-faced. She took a few gulps of clean air, rubbing her cheeks and then moved towards the springs. Y'kar was lounging on the bank, eyes towards the sky. The sight of the green had Dolcissimo in the air, squawking at Kannaroth and already trying to send her images of what Jada had for Y'kar and the Nice Green in her pouch!
"Y'kar!" she moved over towards him, giving him a warm smile. The pouch was lifted, waggled. "Before Dolci ruins the surprise, I have a gift for you and Kannaroth."

What? Oh, it was her, miss pretty; miss pretty stupid. Though she chattered on quite a lot and was so sickeningly sweet that he was debating whether she was faking or wrong in the head, he tolerated her and as such hadn't tried to put her off talking to him as yet. Apparently this had been a good plan; of course miss sweetness, light, and butter wouldn't melt in my mouth would skip up with presents for her friends from time to time. Good call Y'kar, good call.
"Oh, Jada!" Y'kar sat up abruptly and grinned over at the candidate. "Good to see you... Uh... A present?" he blinked. "I... Well... Thanks!" The scrawny youth allowed his expression to hover somewhere between excited and hesitant. "But... I mean it's not my birthing day or anything, and I don't have anything for you... Umm... Sorry, I mean thanks! Err... Sorry." He blushed, and rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly; what a fool of myself I am making, his face said.
Ah... Yes, this girl. As the people Hers insisted on playing around with regularly this one was one of her favorites; she had flitts. Giving a croon of greeting, the small green swept around towards the bank, landing neatly a short distance away from the two humans, keeping her attention on Dolcissimo. What was it the long-haired girl had brought for them? She was fascinated to know!

She tried to keep a mischievous look off her face. "Dolci, don't tell her!" she warned the green flit, who made a dramatic little moan. "You'll spoil my surprise." The green flit crooned and rubbed her head against Kannaroth's own. Turning back to Y'kar, she shook her head. "Let's just say I got lucky. You need to give me nothing in return." That wasn't the point of gifting!
She dropped down onto the ground next to him, alarm crossing her expression as she almost fell, and Dolci shrieked in outrage, moving over to yell in Jadamirei's ear before swooping back to Kannaroth and chittering nervously.
The green sent Kannaroth images of the young dragon walking closer to hers. In the image Kananroth's opened the package, and Kannaroth and Y'kar both looked surprised, and Kannaroth's eyes whirled a bright green! Oh yes, whatever it was would make them happyhappyhappy. Dolcissimo skittered away, trying to lure Kannaroth closer, then landed in Jada's hair and half-crooned at the package before stopping and rubbing her head on the girl's face.

"Well, if you say so," Y'kar allowed himself to relax a little, "but if I ever get lucky and get... err... something nice I'll share it with you." He was sure he could arrange something that wouldn't cost him too much in time, effort, or resources that would please her. Even just a little token might well be enough to perk this one up, because it was the thought that counted now wasn't it? Ha, she really was a fool, and seemed to live with fool's luck. Nice things just drifted her way, or so it seemed. At least she was dumb enough to give them away again to people like him.
"Dolci seems to think that we're going to love it," he went on after a moment with a grin, "she's telling Kannaroth how great it is, whatever it is." At this point, Y'kar allowed himself a wider grin and a slight wriggle of excitement. "It's been ages since I've got a present, you've really made my month and I don't even know what it is yet!" So what was it? Something the flitt thought would please them... Or something Jada had told her would please them? Humm, well, he'd know soon enough.
For her part, Kannaroth eyed Jada suspiciously. She didn't like going close to humans other than Hers, they didn't deserve her presence, but she did want to know what was in the package. After a few moments of thought, she allowed herself to be drawn in closer, but not quite within arms reach of the female candidate. She would not be touched by unworthy hands, not now, not ever.

The package was finally passed to him with no ceremony. Dolcissimo followed after it, crooning, looking at Y'kar expectantly. She reached down, strong jaws closing around the string and waving her wings like she was going to fly away with it for just a moment before Jadamirei reached out and tugged lightly on the green tail.
"It is their present sweetie, not yours." she chided, her eyes then moving to Y'kar. "I think you'll love it too."

Well, time to see then. Y'kar unwrapped the package. Y'kar stared. Y'kar looked up at Jada, then back down at the gift to stare some more. "For... For me?" Two perfect firelizard eggs. Not just on egg. Two eggs. The girl really was mad, people didn't just give things like this away... one maybe, but not two to the same person, not two to a person who was just a friend. Shards. He really had made a good decision in putting up with the girl, no matter how annoying she was.
"I... I don't know what to say," the scrawny rider went on eventually looking back over at Jada with amazement. "These are really for me? You're not kidding around?" They were warm and alive, the shells good and solid. Two flitts, if all went well, two little minions to train. Oh yes, this was definitly the best day in a while. "I... Thank you Jada. I don't know how I can ever reapy you."
Now this was good. Kannaroth's eyes whirled as bright a green as Dolcissimo had hoped. Yes. Two flitts of their own. She would teach them so many clever tricks, and she would adore them and they would adore her. Good job she hadn't talked Hers out of hanging around the long-haired deadglow girl, she was useful apparently, very useful indeed.

Her blue eyes flashed amusement. "I'm silly, Y'kar, not cruel. Of course they are both for you. Well, technically one for you and one for Kannaroth." she tapped the bigger one. "I vote that one for Kannaroth, but I don't have a say." Pushing herself back up to her feet, she smiled up at Kannaroth and bent down to give Y'kar a quick hug before backing away. "I really do have to get back to my chores."
Her eyes went back to Kannaroth. "She really is so beautiful." she sounded wistful, until Dolicissimo nibbled on her ear. "You are growing well, Kannaroth. Just a few more months and you'll be old enough to join a wing." And old enough to... to fly. Jada flushed a bright red. "I can't wait to see it. Anyways. Need to go. Tell me if you need anything for them, Y'kar!"

"I will," Y'kar beamed at the girl - the girl who he had to keep reminding himself was actually older than he was - and nodded enthusiastically. "The same to you. I don't know how much I could do for you but... well if you need something from me I'll try to do it." This was how you had to do it, in order to get good things you had to make people think you playing the same game as them, the game of life, of reciprocity for its own sake. Besides, she was too nice to ever ask anything much of him.
"I can't wait until the first time I can fly on her," he went on, grinning over at Kannaroth, "it's going to be amazing... Your day will come too Jada, I'm sure. A dragon's going to choose you one day." Perhaps it would, some dragons were pretty stupid after all.
"Thank you again," Y'kar tucked the eggs safely back inside the bundle, "I'll let you know just as soon as they hatch. I bet they're going to be beuatiful."
One each? Stuid girl, she knew nothing. Both would belong to her, and both would belong to him. He would Impress them, but she would mainly control them. She could understand their minds better, and besides, the little creatures adored her, would do anything for her. Kannaroth grinned and dipped her muzzed to nudge the bundle. This was going to be perfect.
