Hey guys.
I was just watching The Haunted on Animal Planet: that show about people who's pets had been effected by the paranormal along with them. And it got me wondering if any of you had sensed that your pet was reacting to some invisible force or entity.

Our old family dog, Gala, would look up at my mom then scamper out of the room at the same time every night, when a cabinet in our kitchen would bump closed. She used to stare up at the corner of the room by the ceiling sometimes, and track something moving, too; So would my cat, Pedro. (Maybe they were just seeing bugs.)

What about the ghosts of our beloved deceased fuzzy family members? My mother and I both have had visits from our old pets.

That same dog, after she passed away, paid a visit to my mother's favorite psychic one day during a session. she was in mid-sentence when she had to stop and say "I'm sorry, but there's someone here, really breathing hard on me. Its a dog!"
my mom says, "Oh, that's Gala. Just say the word BATH and she'll go away."
The psychic say's "Bath!" then, "Oh, she's gone. haha!"

My old cat Sombra, in her senile years, started getting into the garbage a lot more. She also became a lot more vocal and irritable. After she died, I'd get the feeling that she was still there, hanging out by the garbage can, being bad. I had a dream later on that I'd caught her in the kitchen (a lot of the spirits in that house seemed to really like the kitchen for some reason) in the act of knocking down the garbage. She tried to make an escape down the hall to my room, meowing like crazy, until I caught up with her and picked her up, giving her a big hug. She relaxed then, and disappeared.

At my old house my cat would stare at random spots all the time and one night she wouldn't stop staring at the doorway... suddenly she growled and ran out of the room faster than I've ever seen her move. Nothing was there and there was nothing else making sound or anything. I decided not to sleep down there that night.

I always trust my animals and notice when they aren't acting normal.

My grandma also has a story about when she was raising my mom on her own. My mom had a friend over that night for asleep over and they had a dog. Someone tried to break in and the dog died defending them. After that my grandma said she'd come home and the leftover dog food would be eaten and the blankets on the beds would be messed up even though she had made them that morning and nobody was home all day. She kept finding blood all over them as if someone or something was injured and it wasn't from her or my mom.

Wow. Blood?? Poor dog. Hopefully its found peace now. It would suck to have to live with that all the time.

Haha maybe its something about cats. They can be kind of crazy sometimes, but then there's that whole belief that there's something mystical about them. I guess I'm kind of a "witchy" person; that's one of the reasons why I'm so attracted to cats. I got a black cat with that thought in the back of my mind, but he really is just a cool pet. :]

I think the fact that animals don't speak, or think in linear rational terms like humans, their minds are more open to base sensory. Their instincts are so much more evolved than ours; they don't need to rationalize what they experience, and so they're not polluted with over-thinking and over-analyzing a situation. There's no need to make sense of it, things just are the way they are, and if they're scary, you hiss and run away from them.

It's just my cat had never acted like that before. She's playful in an a*****e type of way and was very vocal. She'd tease the dogs and growl or do that deep "mmmooooow" sound when she was playing around or annoyed. But this was a very deep growl, hissing and spitting, then bolting from the room like lightning. For my cat to run that fast... she's a chubby lazy spoiled cat. She doesn't run unless it involves food and even then she just jogs. And for her to act like that after staring in the same spot for over 20 minutes as if she was watching something when nothing was there and nothing made any sounds. Just felt wrong.

My cat now, Pip, when we used to live in an apartment he'd growl when a certain maintenance guy came to the door. We got knocks from tons of people but he'd only growl when that guy knocked. We didn't trust him because of it and made sure we were home when they needed to come in to change the filters and so on. Pips a very lovey cat and he'll walk up to almost anyone and start loving on them. That guy put him on edge though and I didn't like it.

I don't know. I've had dogs and cats (and other animals) my entire life. In my family we treat our animals like royalty and I've had a pet save my life so I trust them and I take notice on how they react to things, paranormal or not.

I love black cats, I really want to get one. There was one at Petsmart once that I really regret not adopting. It was a black cat but it was big. Not fat but just big (like a panther cub or something) and it's name was Boo. It was very sweet too. Ever since I've wanted a black cat named Boo. :3 Same with a hairless Sphynx cats. I find them cute and wouldn't mind owning one some day if one needed a home.

One of my cousins had a huge muscular panther cat named Boo (Boo Radley) who was one of the coolest pets I'd ever met. He was one of the motivating reasons for me to get my own cat.

I wish I had the senses they had to see into that kind of stuff. We know our pets better than anyone, but I think anyone with at least a bit of an understanding of animal behavior could used a dog or a cat as the canary in the coal mine when it comes to detecting the odd and seemingly unperceived. Like cancer sniffing dogs, and mine sniffing rats.

I think animals are an under appreciated tool for investigators. Their senses are so much keener than ours.

Ok, get this:

My boyfriend (who is the most skeptical person I know when it comes to ghosts,) believes his best friend's former pet dog haunts his friend's house. He says he gets the "feeling" a dog is there to greet him at the door every time he comes over.

His friend also thinks his house is haunted, but I don't know whether or not he suspects it to be his own dog. (he's a little crazy, so who knows what goes on in his head, or if perhaps ghosts are attracted to Crazy, as some theories on the reason for hauntings in asylums suggests: are the ghosts the crazies, or do the crazies bring the ghosts?)

Anyway. It could just be the absence of what used to be constantly there creating the ghost for my boyfriend; the way an object left on a sun exposed surface leaves its imprint in dust when its removed from that surface. At some point I want to try an experiment to see if a friend's dog might react to the ghost presence of another dog when we take it over to visit. Right now, my boyfriend's buddy is away in Colorado, going to school. Maybe his parents will let us try it.

There was a story in Texas I think about a woman who had ferrets and they would act strange whenever she was about to have a seizure. Sad thing was she lived in an apartment and the landlord made her get rid of them.

My grandparent's dogs work with Project Pup and go in to cheer up disabled people and such. My grandma said that one woman doesn't talk but it's obvious she was terrified of dogs, and both dogs are very friendly black labs that love being the center of attention, but with that lady they'd go up slowly and just sit and be very gentle with her. That and when other people are having a bad day or in pain that the dogs will be very sweet with them or just lay by them to comfort them.

And see, you have a point about anyone with a small bit of understanding animal behavior, problem is a lot of people don't. Just the other day my family was talking about some of the camping trips they've been on and how people will just walk up to wild animals and pet them like it's a zoo or something. We have that problem in Florida too where people will put their kids on alligators for pictures and such. Just because they're around here doesn't mean they're tame.

Aw, I love that book and it's awesome someone named their cat after Boo. I think everyone wishes they had animal senses though, or any kind of super-awareness abilities.

As for animals being used by investigators I'd have to agree. With more and more paranormal shows popping up lately, especially the one on animal planet, I do think that people are seeing how much it can bother animals. On celebrity ghost stories someone was talking about how her dog wouldn't go into a bedroom. One story on animal planet was talking about how horses would be in the wrong stalls but nobody had broken in and the owner had placed tape on the doors to see if someone was in there doing it but the tape hadn't been broken. That they were getting sick, and distressed when they couldn't find anything wrong. I always wondered why investigators never brought in a dog with them. Like do they have a certain rule about it, or is it just overlooked?

You could always try asking. Or like find a way to work it into the conversation so your questions don't sound so bizarre. Usually if you start talking about creepy things, and move into personal experiences it gets other people to open up about theirs. Then they might be more open to you doing an experiment.
