The Kawani traders seemed just a bit miffed with Xaivary, chasing her about with sticks and all. But she smelled that sugarcane, and she wasn't giving up on her favorite snack without giving those humans a good run at the very least! Finally one of them stumbled trying to turn around when she doubled back suddenly and she darted over while he was getting up to grab a random bundle out of his pack.

She trotted a small distance away and started nipping at the wrapping. She was rewarded with her cherished treat and nabbed a stick, quickly tucking it into her scarf and prancing away as the frustrated Kawani came up to retrieve his goods.

His friend laughed at him, which received a heated reply of some sort, after which the amused party offered a replacement from his own pack for the one she'd taken. The offended one seemed disinclined to accept that as recompense and instead shot Xaivary a dirty look. She just tilted her head in a manner that indicated she had no idea why he was so upset, even though all the parties there knew very well that she knew exactly what she'd done.

Finally the second Kawani led the first away, still laughing, and interestingly enough he rather conspicuously dropped the stick of sugarcane he'd pulled out a moment ago on the ground behind him. Waiting until they were out of sight Xaivary quite merrily retrieved her gift and stuck it in her scarf next to the first one.

"Well... that was fun." There was no around to be spoken to, but she did it all the same. Even if the only voice she usually heard was her own, it was good to hear someone speaking from time to time. It occurred to her to perhaps go track down Numi or Honey and pay them a visit, but they were days away in either direction at the very least. Still... it was good to have a destination, at times. But which way? The beach and the Grove were in quite opposite directions. "Hrm..."

A tall dark stallion had been exploring the area, until he came to a more worn path in front of him. His brows furrowed together, catching onto a scent that he had never came across in the wilderness. His teal eyes looked down the path, trying to see what was up ahead. For once, he felt apprehension in moving forward.

As the stallion continued along the path, his ears twitched in catching some noise up ahead. He tensed up, ready to run if it was any sort of danger. The noises were coming from an animal he never seen or heard of before. He drew further closer to a bush, too keep him out of sight from the clearing. As the interaction between the mysterious animal and another soquili, he was confused about what had just happened. As the mysterious animal walked away, he emerged from his hiding spot.

The stallion was a bit embarrassed to approach the mare, but did so anyways despite his feelings. His eyes shifted between her and the area where the two-leggers exited. "W-what was that...?" He asked softly, his bangs hanging over his face to partially hide his emerging blush.

Goggled eyes turned to regard the stallion and his obvious confusion and hesitation. Xaivary tilted her head at him, tail flicking behind her out of habit before she turned to face him properly. "Err, what was... what?" Was he asking about the situation, or the Kawani? She wasn't sure.

"I got some sweet-stick from the Kawani." She nudged at one of the sticks lodged in her scarf. "They're tasty."

The stallion good a good look at the mare, and slightly looked surprised. He blinked a couple times, trying to figure out the mare's attire, and wondered where it had come from. Without knowing it, the stallion was getting carried away with his thoughts as he continued to observe the mare. As soon as it started, it ended, and the stallion looked fully aware again and blushed, trying to catch anything the mare had said. "uhm-- .." His eyes trailed back to the area where the unfamiliar animal had gone. "W-what was the thing you were interacting with..?" He asked again, unsure if she had answered his first question.

The stallion took a good look at the stick in the mare's scarf. "Are they..?" He asked, kind of doubtful of that. "I've never seen one before." He said quietly.

He'd never seen a Kawani before? Well, she supposed that wasn't too unusual. She didn't see them particularly often herself in her travels, usually only when she sought them out to... borrow things.

"That was a Kawani. Funny things that walk on two legs and have to make coverings because they only have fur on their heads. They're very clever, and make lots of interesting things. I got all my stuff from them at one point or another."

At his admission that he'd never had a sweet-stick she pulled the second one out of her scarf and tossed it to him. "Have one, I got two. Not surprised if you never had one, they don't grow around here. Not sure where the Kawani get them, myself."

"A Kawani?" He repeated. "Really? T-that's interesting." He said softly. The stallion looked back towards the area the Kawani headed. "Are they good or bad?" He asked, not sure what to expect from these two-leggers.

Khajag took a moment to look at the mare before him. She did wear some odd clothing, like the thing on her head, the thing over her eyes, the thing around her neck, and the things over her hooves. Did she get all of those from the two-leggers? "How'd you get it from them..?" He asked curiously.

His eyes widened as he looked at the green stick before him. "Are you sure?" He blushed slightly, thankful for the mare's generosity. "This really means a lot to me.." He said, looking at the sweet stick. "These Kawani things are really interesting.." He murmured.

"Well, Kawani is what the Soquili who live with them call them, so." She shrugged and canted her head at his question, also peering after the long-since disappeared humans for a moment. "Good, for the most part. Everyone has a few bad eggs in the group, but I guess that can't be helped."

Xaivary glanced down at her scarf and bracelets after Khajag's next question, pondering what precisely to answer. Typically she didn't go around telling people she just met about her sneak-thievery or the beer raids she used to go on with Fenghuang... didn't seem to turn out well most of the time. "Hmm, I've visited a few times, and just picked up some momentos along the way." That would do, right?

She blinked at him from behind her goggles when he said the sugar-cane meant a lot to him. She hadn't thought it was a big deal... did he not get gifts often, maybe? ...Not that she got gifts often, either, come to think of it. In fact, she didn't think she'd ever gotten one! Hum.

"Interesting is probably the best word for them. Good, bad, or strange, they are certainly interesting." She paused for a moment after that, flicking her tail idly before making an addendum to the conversation. "I'm Xaivary."

Khajag nodded his head. "Kawani?" He said out loud, testing the name. He wondered if these were the only Kawani in existence, and how many were out there. Were there more of the Soquili, or the Kawani? Shaking his head from his thoughts, he continued to listen to the mare. "That's good to hear. So, if I can be assured that if I approach one that they will mostly do no harm, but I should take caution if I approach one in the case that they are one of the 'bad eggs'?"

The stallion smiled. "Interesting..." He mumbled, finding this all very intriguing. "So, if I wanted, I could just walk in and pick up something?" He asked curiously, not really interested, but was just curious of the outcome of that situation.

Hearing her introduce herself, the stallion blushed at the embarrassment of forgetting to introduce himself! He felt like his manners slip. "I'm Khajag. It's a pleasure." He said, lowering his head a bit to shield his blush with his bangs.

Xaivary grinned a bit. "Actually that's pretty much my rule for everything. Approach with caution, but unless it has claws and fangs and growls at you, give it a chance." This one seemed a bit of a thinker, and curious. And he certainly had an interesting coat pattern! It was like... well, hm. It was like some of the strange patterns in some of the more interesting stones she'd seen, that was it.

But they were still talking, it was probably a bad time for mental tangents. "Some things. Not the stuff they use all the time, or the really ornate decorative things. They use those for ceremonies, I think. If you can't tell about something right off you could probably just pick it up and wait to see if they mind or not, as long as you don't run off with it or something they don't seem to get mad. They live and work with the Soquili that live around them so they're kinda used to that stuff, I think." She lifted her single white hoof and waved it from side to side like a pendulum, albeit in an idle manner. "Me they get upset at a bit... some of them at least, 'cause I like to tease them, pick something up and play tag. Sorta hard to ask 'em if they want to play first though, pretty big language barrier and all. Just as many of them seem to think I'm funny, though, so I guess it evens out?"

This guy seemed to be a bit on the shy side, too, blushing all the time. Xaivary was just about the last person anyone needed to be embarrassed around, but to each their own? This was actually a pretty typical conversation for her, chat about something and make introductions when it occurred to her if the other party didn't get to it first. Sometimes it was never gotten to at all! "Well, nice to meet you, Khajag."

Khajag nodded his head. It made sense. It would be like taking his cautiousness in the wild and applying it to the two-legger village. They didn't have claws like a tiger, or fangs like a wolf, but it does not mean they did not have another motive of killing a living thing.

The stallion watched and listened to the mare. He was quite amused with her actions as she spoke, never seeing anyone move their hoof in a way while they were speaking to another. After allowing her to speak, not wanting to interrupt her, he spoke up. "It seems like you know a lot about the 'Kawani.' Do you visit their village a lot?" He asked, looking towards the village and then back to the mare. "If they work with other Soquili, they must be friendly, right?" He asked. "I don't mean to be a bother and ask you a million questions... It's just I have never seen one in my life... I mean, up until now." He said. "So, it's just really interesting." He muttered.

After hearing that the mare would interact with the Kawani, he smiled. "I guess there would be a language barrier, but words can be spoken through action. The Kawani have little ones, right? I'm sure they'll get the notion of playing quicker than the adults. I assume that their young are just as playful as our young."

The burning of his cheeks told him that his blush was dying away slowly, and he lifted his head again to reveal his face again. The stallion just forced the best smile he could after feeling of embarrassment, making it look more strained.

Xaivary actually gave a soft, and rather brief, chuckle at the unnecessary apology. "Pfft, I don't mind questions. I don't get to have chats like this often, traveling by myself. Talking to myself gets boring after a while." She tilted her head upward to look at the sky for a moment, mentally trying to figure out if she visited the Kawani "a lot". "I visited more a while back than I do now. I decided to try and see new places. I like to wander back around the area though, see what they've done with the place. They build themselves little wooden caves to live in, believe it or not, and they can do it pretty fast. It's kind of interesting to watch, though they usually do it in the warm weather."

She grinned again at the mention of the Kawani "cubs". "Most of them are playful, for sure. There's a few that are quieter, but then, we get those too." She shrugged. "For the most part they are friendly, though. Just be careful even around the friendly ones. They don't mean any harm, I think, but they might try to get you to let them ride you and get you to haul things around like the village Soquili do, and some of them can get kind of miffed if you don't want to or if you want to leave again after. I think they get the idea in their head you decided to be part of their herd if you offer to help out for a while or something. Though I guess that's not a bad thing if you don't mind them... just not for me. Not much of staying in one place for too long sort of person."

Khajag just smiled softly in humor to the other mare. "I really appreciate you answering all my questions." He said softly. The stallion quietly listened to the mare, nodding every so often to indicate he was still listening. "Wow, really? Do they recognize you when you come to visit?" He asked curiously.

The stallion continued to listen to the mare, nodding his head. "It is odd that they get miffed that you wouldn't want to do work for them. It isn't like you are in their herd because you help them out." He paused for a moment. "Maybe one day I would like to venture into the Kawani village. It sounds very interesting. I think that's the only area where I haven't visited." He said softly, but he wasn't sure he had the gut to do it. "I understand what you mean. I have to be constantly traveling or else I feel restless and antsy." He could only stay in an area for the maximum of a week before he got antsy.

"Not all of them do, but some of them. The ones that see me the most when I go over." She canted her head at him and smiled, nodding a friendly recognition of the "itch" of the wander-bug. After a moment she peered off after the long-disappeared Kawani before turning back to Khajag. "I can show where to find them, if you want."
PostPosted: Sun Jan 30, 2011 11:21 pm

Khajag then nodded his head in full understanding. "Oh, I see!" He smiled. "Well, if you frequent them so often, it makes sense that they start seeing you as one of their herd." He chuckled softly. The stallion blinked, and followed her gaze. The stallion looked at her when he heard her words, before glancing back at the direction she was looking at. Feeling nervousness build up in his system, thoughts of these Kawani surrounding him. "W-will we be going near them?" He asked a tad nervously than before, his eyes showing uncertainty.
