Someone put it in for me It's one of those hoops with the little metal ball you snap into place to keep it in.
I can't get the ball in place or take it out myself, the one time I tried I lost it.

Don't lose it then? I don't know, I've never seen that kind of backing. =o Then again, I'm not much of an earring person.

Nonono, it's not a backing. Lemme see if I can find a picture. It's called a captive, apparently

I have two of those in each ear :B
You just press the ball between your thumb and forefinger, and pop it out. Be careful not to drop it.
The ones with two balls [hurhur] are worse. The ones that screw on? Yeah, they're really easy to drop and lose. I've replaced the ones on my nose ring at least 3 times.

The ones that screw on? Yeah, they're really easy to drop and lose. I've replaced the ones on my nose ring at least 3 times. I used to have one like that, it was much easier to me not to lose the balls. I mean I never really have an excuse to take the ring out, but it just occurred to me that I can't take it out on my own. Perhaps the reason it's called captive?

Perhaps the reason it's called captive? I HATE THE SCREW ONES But captives don't fit on my nose. And captives are better for ears because the balls don't fall out when you sleep, I had that problem alot with the screws. It takes practice. My navy blue captives, my first pair, actually... I had a hell of a time with them when I got them. Now I don't think I've taken them out once in over two years.

ANYWAYS I will just be all dramatic next time someone asks me to take it out and be like ONLY MY TRUE LOVE MAY REMOVE THIS RING FROM MY EAR
