"Come along Cordelia." Ebony announced loudly to her lagging charge. Since being cured, the smoke Raevan had pretty much kept herself locked in her room and under the covers, rarely coming out other wise. So the Brit felt as her guardian it was her duty to make sure the girl didn't sleep her life away. Most especially since she was still pretty new to the world and there was lots to experience and see. "This will be fun, you'll see."

She wasn't happy. In fact, Cordelia was down right miserable. Why? Why did her woman feel it necessary to drag her all over the place in the middle of all this cold? Yuck, cold. The snake made a face and floated even more slowly behind Ebony before ultimately stopping. That was it, she'd had enough and refused to go any further. Crossing her arms over her thickly clothed chest, Delia watched as the distance between her and the violet haired human gradually grew until she was almost lost in the crowd that filled said space.

A sly smile crept along her dark lips at having easily ditched her guardian. Apparently there were major advantages to being a mute. Perhaps she ought to keep that in mind for the future. But right now it was time to find something warm to snuggle up against. If she could find some smoke, she was surely going to find a fire and thus heat. Tentatively the Basilisk sniffed the air before licking her lips over and over again. She thought she could smell something off in the distance to the right and so that's where she went.

Genie felt the day would have been easily better spent home in the apartment in front of a small heater, but Basil it seemed had other arrangements. There he had perched at the northernmost window lifelessly, chin in his hand, watching the world pass by like a forlorn dog. He was curious of his new world. Not even that, he was bored. How a creature that peculiar could ever muster up such a state of ennui was beyond her. Nontheless, she wanted to ensure his seratonin levels wouldn't nose-dive within the next half-hour, so offered if perhaps he would enjoy seeing the Winter Festival as opposed to being cooped up all day. Thinking on it shortly, he had enthusiastically agreed.

His own separation was less intentional, and more by happenstance.

He hadn't the faintest idea what a festival was, but he had a feeling it would get him out of the house. Hence, amidst lights and cuisine, the Witham party of two were seekers of fun and excitement, Genie in a comfortable leather jacket and red tuque, Basil bundled in an old, but warm sweatshirt that had belonged to Genie's father. The kind of apparatus she liked to wear whenever she was having a "fat day". The sweatshirt billowed around his limber form. It hollowed and it waved against the winter-winds and his own swirling rune-smoke. He enjoyed watching it very much, attracted to the motion and unable to prevent himself from tearing away as Genie strode into the crowds looking for a place to sit while she examined the brochure for things they could do, which were...few and far between. Before they even knew it, the gap had widened, and neither was within the other's sight...

When Basil had looked up again, he was somewhat afraid, confused. Where was he now? Where was the nine-fingered woman that yelled at the television and gave him a room-house to hang his hat? What was to become of him? What should he do? Should he yell? Should he look for her? Should he go with another of these humans? So many choices! And in the blink of eye, his selective memory proved it's weight, and his mind wandered to less frightening...less complicated things almost instantly before he could find the will to take action against his current predicament.

Pawing at his hood and examining the grounds, he picked a string of lights hanging in the distance for decoration, and absently drifted towards it. It was at this time that his infared sensitivity came in handy. It was as natural to him as breathing, a simple switch between visions. Genie was as of yet unaware of this particular talent. She couldn't even imagine, as Basil had not the words within him to describe it. When the whole world could at will become a throbbing, shifting canvas of reds and deep purples, weeding out that which was vibrant and full of life like a dowsing rod. It was both bizarre, but unbelievably convenient for determining his surroundings. The lights were anchored between the tip-top of a lantern and a stake in the ground half a metre away from the fairway, in a small, somewhat grassy area. To Basil, the heat of the lights radiated a faint yellow glow, which to him indicated life. Perhaps in some small, twisted corner of his curious mind, the lights looked serpentine, familiar, and thus beckoned to him, drawing him further away from the crowds, which he decidedly regarded like cows in a field. He knew they were alive as well, but interested him far less.

He would have reached his destination unhindered, had he not caught the bright red blip of light that scurried past him. It sounded like a mouse, and it moved just as quickly. Basil felt the urge to devour it, a primal sensation that sprang from the roots of his very soul. But as to why he would wish to do this when his hunger was for sound and not rodents prevented him from doing so. There was no purpose it would serve. But there was certainly no reason not to pursue it anyway.

Weaving through the building traffic with ease and grace, Cordelia was on route towards what she suspected to be a perfect heating source for her cold half body. To her utter dismay the source of smoke was that of a grill, busy cooking ears of corn for the multitude of bipeds walking past. The Basilisk folder her arms and pouted. She was really starting to hate this festival. As she could see it, the place was devoid of any fun.

Since she was there, Delia figured she'd might as well sample the meal at hand and sucked in a few breathes of the billowing smoke casually. While she feed the dark girl took to watching the people and things around her at the moment. Suddenly a quick movement dashing between the feet of the humans caught the Raevan's interest. It stopped momentarily to rake its small paws over its face several times before bounding off once more. Just as quickly, Cordelia was slithering after the little brown mouse. Although she could not eat the rodent nor did she have any real desire to, the snake had this overwhelming need to give chase to it. It wasn't food, but it was still prey and prey was meant to be tracked. She wasn't quite sure what she'd do to the tiny creature once she'd caught it, but up until that exact moment of decision, Delia would create her own fun.

Several times she got close only to have to pull back when the critter dashed between the legs of a human and she'd have to go around, costing her valuable time. Yet now she was getting so very close and there were no humans getting in the way this time. Slowly her sharp nails reached out, getting ready to snap shut like a venus flytrap did when a fly landed in its sticky trap. Cordelia was so focused on her little game of serpent and mouse that it would be far too late for her to notice the other giving chase as well, yet from the opposite direction and heading straight for her.

The boy's pursual of the tiny beast was erratic and haphazard, taking on a sleauthy zig-zag sort of pattern. One moment he was bursting between humans, the next his shoulder surfed gently against the awning of carts for nothing short of the sheer joy of the chase. The unforgiving wind whipped against his brow and his eyes stung with the dryness but he would not retire his goal. Closer and closer still did he near it, this spirited red glow as it sprinted across concrete and frozen earth, with his eyes alight with a grim and gleeful temper. As he was just about ready to leap upon it, the determined red orb veered a very sharp left and vanished beneath the crawl-space of a nearby building's foundation. Creeping upon the ground and glancing through the crack in the boards in which the mouse had escaped through, he could clearly detect it continuing to run, even in solid darkness. It was attempting to shake him off by running clear across to the adjacent street on the other side of the building, knowing he would be unable to fit within the crevice to take immediate chase.

Basil was not particularly skilled at problem-solving. His thinking could be muddy, and his brittle memory was a detterant to any meaningful attempt at conquering the demon of logic. But even someone of moderate intelligence could look to the alleyway three houses down, and employ it as a shortcut. With no time to lose, the chase continued as he darted through to the adjoining street to try and meet the elusive crimson blip on the other side. He could faintly see it down the way... The clever obstacle had given the mouse tremendous distance, but Basil would not be lost so easily.

Unbeknownst to him, he wouldn't have far to travel as the second predator surprised the tiny thing when it had stopped to rest it's pounding heart and aching lungs, and had begun chasing it straight around to his direction again, the clueless Basil giving no thought of course as to why the tiny thing was now coming towards him. The snakes were unstoppable, two scaled locomotives that thundered and raced down the tracks with a singular goal in mind. Heads were turned, the gap shortened, the tension was rising, the mouse was theirs for the taking! They were coming so close!

And therein...came the collision...

Basil's vision immediately reverted to it's default in a flash of white as his skull met hers. Luckily for him the blow was slightly cushioned by both hair and hood. No doubt it was still terribly unpleasant, a formidable knot forming upon the crown of his sable head, but judging from the strange being before him without the benefit of a covering, it could have been worse.

There was a loud resounding crack as skull met skull on a most literal head on collision anyone had ever witnessed. Not that anyone stopped to actually see if the two were okay since well...they looked so strange and kind of scary with their dark colors and sharp features. Hell even a few parents quickly ushered their children away from the scene should the floating half people decided to get into a fight due to the accidental run in. Which was still a possibility depending on how the rest of this went down.

Cordelia hissed and moaned loudly in pain, cradling her splitting head as tiny tears slide down her cheeks. That really hurt! What hit her? She was pretty sure nothing was there a moment before, then again the mouse had been the ultimate center of her world at the time. Nevertheless, nothing should have been there! Didn't it know better than to get in the way of a tracking Raevan?!

Rubbing her face to numb the throbbing pain and to restore her blurred vision, the Basilisk looked to see her assailant. Cordelia immediately forgot her pain as her silver orbs grew impossibly wide at the sight before her. She couldn't help but gape a bit at the other. The great likeness of a dark palette as well as the scaled texture was so very similar to her own and yet not!

Because she wasn't sure whether her vision could be trusted due to her fairly recent crash, Delia tentatively reached a hand out and gently poked the others nose. Hmm...he seemed solid enough to be real and not a hallucination. Slowly again, the snake gave a sheepish smile and raised her hand into a tiny wave of greeting.

The cobra was especially sensitive about his head... The burning sensations? The feel as though in a body not his own? The rattling and the visions? To have it practically knocked off his neck was the first real introduction to pain that the boy had ever experienced in his short life. And he could say in no uncertain terms that he most certainly did not wish to experience it again! That white flash on impact had probably eliminated the memory of the first half of his day, if not the last three!

In order to feel through his hair to locate the knot, he had pulled back his hood ( a very rare sight). Nimble hands slid through tresses of the sheerest black, searching for the source of his stinging, and when found, he applied a bit of pressure to it. He whimpered audibly at this... The new Frei had barely even acknowledged the other was there until he could distinctly see an offending finger drawing close to prod him in the nose. It tickled somewhat, to which he smiled, taking a moment to in turn examine her. She gave off no heat... In his everyday vision, she was a faintly blurry splendor of scales and blacks and captivating gray eyes. In infared, she blended right in with the street! He was so terribly confused, indicated by his furrowed brow and pouting lip... Especially once she had offered such a lovely little wave.

Was she alive? Was she there? She didn't....seem like another of his visions. She was much too, well, life-like! And familiar-looking, though wasn't at the same time. His jaw too was slightly slack in an impetuously adorable sort of way as he reached forward to put his palm against hers for the same purpose as her poking. He needed to be sure... Her hand was much smaller than his, daintier; but it was certainly real... At this observation, his arm retreated quickly, unsure of what to make of her. All thoughts of the mouse were obliterated as he slowly began to pull his hood back up, shadowing his already sallow and angular features. Greetings were a mystery to him, as much as he was now dying to know about her. For instance, who she was and where she came from, and if she were missing her human as he was... And most importantly, if she could be of any help in finding his.

With every tick of the minutes passing by while this male Frei examined her who was examining him, Cordelia's smile gradually grew until it burst from corner to corner in a wide gash of pearly whites. There was just something so very familiar about him and yet she couldn't quite figure out why. Perhaps their ownership of scaly attire was the linking clue?

She giggled when he pressed his hand flat against hers. It was cold like her own, but it was so much bigger! Like it could easily engulf hers completely should he choose to wrap those thick fingers around her slender ones. Her onyx head shifted from side to side when the other quickly retreated the previously offered hand and flipped his hood back up, casting shadows over his sharp features once more. Now it was Cordelia's turn to pout. Did he suddenly conclude that he did not like her? Unacceptable!

Cautiously as not to seem threatening, for Cordelia was most alert of the fact of this Raevan being a predator like herself, the dark female slid closer. Slowly she raised her hand and lightly tapped the area of her collar bone. "Cordelia." The Basilisk then proceeded to mimic the action by tapping his chest but allowing the silent question to hang in the air as she patiently awaited his answer.

The empty stare returned...

Was that the name of her chest? Was that what those slight ridges at the base of her neck were called? Cordelias? The way she earnestly looked to him as she spoke it-- no! That was who she was! He felt like such a nitwit... That was her name. She was telling him her name, appeasing his curiosity. He mouthed it to himself to see how it felt upon his lips. It didn't have any S's in it (his favorite of letters)... or at least, none that he could hear, but it was still a most welcome introduction to his vocabulary. The boy yanked and pawed at his hood, seemingly excited by this as he smiled ear to ear. But oh? She was intent on poking him once again, tapping his chest with a pointed nail. Judging by what the gesture had meant before, he could only determine that she was as curious as he.

He had to think about it... After all, he hadn't had much time to become accustomed to his own name, let alone know when it was appropriate to lend it to others. He felt as though he could bawl! Here this stranger was poking and prodding him, lending him the gift of her name before he had even asked of it, and there he was without his own to give to her in return! What an idiot... A horrible, ungrateful idiot! He pounded his hand against his forehead in the most dreadful of moods as the glass of his wings tinkled musically in shuddering. He did however remember how nice it had been to say his first night home-- this title of his. Let's see... It began with a 'b', a light pressure of the lips, and proceeded to an exotic-sounding 'ay'. The hiss of the teeth in the middle was what brought it flooding to his immediate memory. The hiss, the 's' that tartly ended in a lulling 'il'. "Basil." He affectionately proclaimed, somewhat proud of himself for having put the pieces together all on his own; You could swear he was aglow. But now, now... there were more questions besides this one with slightly more complicated answers. He held his chin tween his index and thumb, seemingly choosing his words quite carefully... Ah! "Wh...where are we?"

It was a slightly open-ended question to say the least. Judging by the present company, he could have meant anything at all. Where they were in the festival, where they were in the city, what planet were they on? What galaxy? But if one thing was clear from his now woeful and wounded expression, not knowing made him quite upset... He needed to find his human... Although loud and grumpy, she seemed to know everything, and if he couldn't be knowledgeable, it would be wise to at least have somebody around that was to give him a foundation on which to stand...er, float.
PostPosted: Sat Jan 16, 2010 11:53 pm

She giggled again at his playful means of pulling at his hood in excitement. It was a very cool accessory to have and she may have been a tad jealous of his having one and her without. Alas this thought was soon pushed aside from the forefront of her mind in favor of awaiting his answer to her question. Cordelia swayed excitedly from side to side, gaining momentum as she did. Truly, she wished the boy would hurry up in understanding and lavish her with his own name. Or did he not want to share that little bit of information? The negative thought dimmed her smile just the slightest.

Just when she was going to give up hope that he would never answer, the other Frei finally did. The exaggerated way in which he produced the 's' sound in the middle of his name made Delia's eyes grow wide again once more. It was much like the hissing she was prone to throwing out every so often when something was threatening her or such. Smile returning to the illuminating glory of prior, the snake reproduced the name in a softer tone, but in much the same manner. "Basil." And then she gently patted his cold cheek with her equally so hand, her normal means of greeting.

Basil's next words made Cordelia tilt her head again in confusion. Where were they? How would she answer that kind of question? First, she hadn't really the littlest inkling of what town this was because of how upset she'd been earlier and second, the girl simply had no other words in her vocal arsenal. With a shrug of her shoulders, the girl shook her black locks.

Meanwhile, Ebony had finally noticed her charge's disappearance and was frantically running around and back tracking through the crowd shouting the girl's name. At times she even gave in and called out the loathsome nickname the snake had given to herself in hope that she would hear and sudden appear.

Basil frowned... It seemed she didn't know either, which left them a bit at odds for a solution to their problem. Or at least his judging that Cordelia was likely relieved to have parted ways from her guardian and intended for things to stay that way. Oh what to do... He could only reason that the best course of action would be to search for his missing woman. She would know what to do, and perhaps she would have a solution for this girl as well, if she too were lost. Or perhaps (as his train of thought got chugging) they wouldn't need to look! Perhaps this Cordelia-creature could be his human, and they could stay together, and travel the world, and do fun things! Exciting things! Like playing with spoons and putting their ear against a thrumming air conditioner. And she would poke him in the nose, and he would smile. Oh... but he couldn't do that to Genie... She had seemed to like him very much. It just wouldn't be nice to leave without informing her. He became rigid with conviction, now that he had a plan.

He reached across them to grasp her hand within his, nodding his head as he spoke in trite and simple sentences, "We'll look, together. For my Genie. I think... she is lost." Already he was starting to lose his grasp of the situation, considering of course it was he that had become misplaced. "We'll go....and...look........together..." His voice trailed off into a raspy nothingess, his words dripping viscously like molasses off velcro... Grains of sand in a verbal hourglass. He continued to hold her hand for lack of any reflexes to withdraw, as suddenly, he found himself drifting into the ether as his mind was prone to do. His eyes became glazed, his mouth was slightly hung as he became captive to his own imagination. It was slightly unnerving the way he stared, slack-jawed into the void as if his conscious mind had stepped out for lunch only to leave his body behind. Eerier still when he had shaken it off and continued his vacant smiling as though it were nothing at all.

Perhaps...it wouldn't be wise to anoint him as team leader on this expedition...

PostPosted: Sun Jan 17, 2010 7:25 pm

Honestly, now that she'd found Basil, Cordelia's woman had all but been forgotten in lieu of her new fascinating friend. She was eager for them to go and explore this strange town and its current activities now that she wasn't unhappy, but was unable to voice that opinion. Oh if she only knew that the hooded boy was younger than her and yet already held a stronger grasp of the human language. Though perhaps it was a good thing she didn't know since she'd find it utterly unfair.

"Genie?" she asked repeating the only word she felt confident in repeating. Was that his guardian then? And she was lost? That finally made her think of Ebony. She wasn't lost, but her whereabouts were unknown which was rather unfortunate now that Cordelia needed her. Maybe she shouldn't had ran off on her own, then again if she hadn't then she wouldn't had met Basil either and then wouldn't need her guardian for help. Oh now her head hurt.

Her unblinking stare meet his as she waited for him to continue if he had more things to say or take initiative and start them in a direction. Neither happened as the cobra merely continued to clasp her hand tight and his mouth went slack. For a moment Delia only thought the boy thinking, but when he just kept staring at her like that with no light in his dark eyes...it sort of made her uncomfortable, which was really saying something with how she stared at people herself all the time.

Tempted by the unusual circumstance, the Basilisk wanted to poke him again to see whether or not he was still there, but she didn't get the chance as his smile returned to his face finally. How strange. Oh well, Basil seemed fine now so they could get on with their quest to find his woman. But since she had no idea what his guardian looked like, maybe they ought to find hers. After all it wasn't that hard to spot Ebony in a crowd, her vivid violet hair like a beacon in the night.

"Ebby." she confirmed aloud with a nod. Tightening the grip of their joined hands, Cordelia carefully wove them through the traffic of the humans, keeping an eye out for any sign of her woman. She couldn't have gotten too far, she couldn't float like them and thus was slower in a sense.

It was nice to sail along, drifting adjacent of his new companion through the bustling, busy streets. To feel the tension and the energy from the warmly bundled beings around them. How the sun hung so heavy in gray skies? Gray, like the eyes of his compatriot. He inhaled deeply, and the cold stung his nostrils, but it was somewhat exhilarating to say the least. He huddled shoulder to shoulder to the other frei, eyes wide and curious at all he surveyed around him. Her hand remained so tiny within his, very soft and sleek like grabbing ahold of the tail of a panther. It was cold like his own, neither radiating much heat to speak of, but at least their clothing prevented them from locking up like icicles for the time being.

Basil was at a loss for who this "Ebby" was, nor how he would be able to identify her should she cross their paths, but nonetheless he kept vigilant. Within, the part of him hypersensitive to resonance was at full-tilt. Somewhere, in that festival, he was certain that a woman's voice was carrying over the winds his Cordelia's name. It was indistinct... Very difficult to pick out amongst the thousands of other voices that enveloped them. But Basil had the benefit of perfect pitch... A woman's voice, serene although desperate could be identified with hard enough concetration. But even now was he left with a headache in the aftermath of the collision that had led him to be in Cordelia's company. Doubting his innermost sense, he let it be, for now enjoying his time with the scaly female.

After perhaps five to ten minutes of aimless drifting, there was a curious moment where Basil had completely forgotten he was hand-in-hand with her, looking to her with pleasant surprise as if rediscovering her once again... This pattern had to have repeated quite a few times over the course of their journey...
PostPosted: Mon Jan 18, 2010 11:28 am

With the combined grace and objective driven focus of an assassin, Cordelia was able to move them through the crowd without much trouble. At the same time, no one seemed to even give much attention to the two half bodies floating hurriedly amongst them. It was as if they were nothing more than ghosts to them. It probably would have been wise for her to start calling out for her woman, but the smoke Raevan wasn't so confident of how well her soft, wispy like voice would carry in all this activity. No doubt it would simply disappear into the massive void of sound, never reaching the Brit's ears even if she happened to be close by.

So the best Delia could do was keep trudging along and looking. Every so often she would look back to Basil though just to make sure the boy was still there even though the snakes had never let go of each others hands. Content to see he was still with her, at least physically, she would smile happily towards him before turning her attention back to her search.

After a few moments of drifting about, the Basilisk was starting to doubt whether they would find her Ebby. There were a couple of times she thought she'd spotted the purple haired female only to realize it was someone else. And since Basil hadn't said anything yet, she assumed he hadn't spotted his Genie either. Thus Cordelia stopped abruptly and huffed in frustration. Where were they?

And as if by magic, Ebony was summoned to them, the British woman turning a corner only to stop and do a double take in surprise. "Ebby!" she cooed at her guardian as if nothing had happened.

Once Ebony's initial shock wore off and her relief washed over, her anger took its place. "Cordelia Shade! Where have you been?! Do you know how worried I was! I've been looking all over fo-..." Her sentence was cut off when she noticed the other with her charge. A Raevan she'd never seen before and yet he looked so very familiar. "Uh, whose this?"

Her guardian's anger not even registering with the snake, Delia carefully ushered the cobra forward with a smile. Pointing to the Brit first, "Ebby." Then pointing to the male Frei, "Basil."

Inexplicably startled by the sudden introduction, Basil's heart clenched. He didn't really like to be surprised, especially by new people. But Cordelia's recognition of the flamboyant woman before him eased his stress with time, despite his mind having been elsewhere at the time of her approach. Smiling, he gathered, was one of the best ways to get on the good side of new people. It seemed as though they were disarmed by such a simple gesture, it made them find him more likable. So he was sure to try and do so whenever possible, if only to avoid the venom of others. Chin tilted downwards, features cast in a dark shadow, his nose red from the cold, he grinned with everything he had.

When nudged by the female towards her guardian, he poked two fingers to the woman's chest as Cordelia had done to him, assuming she would understand the gesture. "Ebby?" He asserted, glancing over his shoulder for the Basilisk's affirmation.

Though before he would receive his answer, he experienced a sharp jolt of the neck, teeth poised atop his lip and eyes clenched tight. It sounded strangely like sneezing, both in force and in timing, "Fft! Fft! Fft!" A mist of moist air erupting at the warmth of his breath each time. Most people however, after sneezing, would wipe their nose and mouth (or at least cover it), maybe even groan headily in relief. But Basil had remained erect and alert after his episode, a hapless grin returning.
