I was curious to know who you thought the most developed Hellsing character is. I'd like to hear which female you thought was developed the fullest and the male because Hirano is a genius at creating characters. :3
~~~
FEMALE-Integra: As I read the series, I saw more development in Integra than in any other female. Seras was up there, but her development happened all-at-once and then stopped cold-turkey. Integra developed more and more through each volume and showed a very complex personality. Being human, she still had feelings towards her loved ones, such as Penwood, Walter, Alucard, and the rest of her employees (such as the ones in volume 2 she had to put to rest). Yet, being the head of an organization, she tries her best to hide these emotions, such as when she walked away from Walter after admitting that he was no longer the man he was.
MALE-Anderson: Thought I was going to say, Maxwell didn't ya? Nope, but he plays an imense part in Anderson's development. In the first volume, Anderson was really no different than anime Anderson. Cold, heartless, a downright monster. As Hellsing progressed and the war began, Anderson began to change. He slowly realized what was happening was against his morals, and he went against Maxwell's rule. The first time he did this was in volume 6 when he saved Integra from the group of Nazi vampires. When Maxwell recieved news of the incident, he scoffed at and insulted Anderson. Anderson kept disobeying Maxwell through volumes 6 and 7, then he finally matured to his peak when he realized that Maxwell went against God and began serving himself. Anderson had Maxwell killed, but afterwards, he probably felt grief that made him want to turn against humanity and become something inhuman. By his death, he developed incredibly from volume 1. Instead of turning back when things got rough as he did before, Anderson accepted fate and smiled as he did.
OVERALL-Integra
These are the two in which I personally saw the most growth, but I'm curious to know who you all think and why.
I agree. Definitely. Although I feel that there are other characters that were quite developed also.
I think Max had a lot of development. We are introduced to him under the impression he's just some crazy guy. But in the 9th volume, we see he is the only sane one left (besides Integra). He knows what is his and doesn't let anyone take it from him; he possesses his humanity and nobody else does. He knows this so well that the power of his own will keeps Alucard's force away from him. I gained a lotta respect for das fat major in vol. 9. Kohta is simply a brilliant writer to turn the tables so that we see that Max is noble, in a way, and Anderson, the servant of god, is a fool. 3nodding
you ask me Maxwell was a fool but seemed normal at first but after one encounter with alucard he goes nuts which has lead me to belive that theres a diesese which will be called the nut case disese. Alucard is the origanal carrier you notice these affects on the following people Sears ,Integra ,Anderson ,Maxwell ,and quite possibly Walter.
Seras- when you first meet her shes normal but less than about 2 days dose she start showing symptoms by going nuts on the ghouls.
Integra- When you first meet her shes normal but as time goes on with Alucard she starts showing sympotoms such as challengeing a whole lot of vampires with nothing but a blade not really courage more like suicide.
Anderson- When your first me him hes normal but a bit....off but after one encounter with Alucard he starts showing symptoms such as conslty yelling mars and being obbsessed with divine punishment not to mention stabbing himself with nails.
Maxwell- Nromal when you first meet him but kinda a jerk. With barely exchangeing 2 sentances goes bonkers. Symptoms start showing when he makes weird faces obbssed with divine punishment punishing "hethens" and being a ***** to england citizens for no good reason.
Walter- More than normal when you meet him seems like hes not really good but starts showing skills. Hes been with Alucard for years and been on missions with him. which is why he has a more serouis amount of the disease than anyone elase. sypotoms startwhen he decides to get weapons he himself can barley manage to pick up and of course turning traitor and trying to kill alucard.
Alucard- the carrier of this disease. hes hasent been normal even when you first meet him. the disease manifested it self sometime when he was ******** by some guy who didnt really have any eyes and was a kid at the time and as years went by the disease grew stronger and stronger and has been spreading among characters whov'e been around him.
The nut case disease.
XD wth?
Nut Case Disease?
Not sure if we could call Alucard the carrier...as far as I'm concerned, all the characters in Hellsing were probably born with it. Maxxie was a freak even before he met Alucard. ;D Like in Crossfire...
Of the three main characters (Integra, Alucard, and Seras), Integra is the most well-developed. She's the true hero(ine) of the story, and she grows in its course as she learns how to be human and also how to fulfill her duty to her family and to her country. Integra's story is, in many ways, the story of a fundamentally righteous woman struggling against temptation: the temptations of sex, the temptations of power, and the temptations of violence. Sometimes she yields to these temptations, yes, but those moments of weakness only serve to make her more convincing as a character. Her greatness lies in the fact that she faces temptation, overcomes it, and returns again and again to her mission and her better nature. Her story arc never felt neither rushed or out-of-character for her. She's just a strong woman, a noble yet flawed woman (and proof that Hirano can write female characters without using them for fanservice or needlessly victimizing them). Besides, we saw her during puberty, we saw her blossom into a woman, and we saw her in the golden years of middle age. We watched her grow up.
She is, as Hirano puts it, "beautiful".
