Having lived the life he did, it was a surprise that Partridge wasn't more paranoid about what else life would throw at him next. He had begun as a mere slave to a brain-addled humans in the jungle, forced to sing for his meal's worth every night before being fed table scraps from . . . well, he shuddered to think of what they might have been once. The humans' faces shifted sometimes; numbers declining, then surging back up again. Dark faces with wild paints and grayed teeth, playing music for their dark rituals and singing in God awful voices. It was only slightly worse than his packlife before of course, because over there he had been merely ridiculed for his pelt coloration and effeminate appearance; here, it was practically the same mockery, only done by furless creatures he couldn't understand and in the company of wolves whom Partridge was sure were too odd for his tastes, similarly enslaved or not.

But ever since he escaped with her, well, forgive a male if his mind wasn't on the wellbeing of kin he barely knew about.

The pair were wandering about aimlessly as usual, Partridge leading the way this time because he was insistent on bringing Dove into a pack of sorts in return for her saving his life practically - really, finding a pack was the least he could do for her! Ah, but did he have more plans after that? Yes indeed, yes indeed . . . Clearly he was still on some sort of high after the close encounter with the humans and the subsequent save, mixed in with some sort of "you're my hero" fascination. Currently he pranced ahead of Dove, lilting voice singing a lyricless tune with no particular set melody, feeling upbeat about their luck. He had scented many wolves north of them, and he intended to check them out - though hopefully his sour luck wouldn't put a damper on their beautiful day. "The trees and birds and squirrels and grass all smile on us todaaaaaay~" he randomly intoned with one of his big puppy grins that he tossed over his shoulder to her. "I can feel it!"

Dove had no issues with following Partridge around, they both had light hearts, happy tunes running through their minds. Her heart was much lighter when she heard him sing, when she joined in.

A smile tugged onto her maw as she watched his tail back and forth and listened to him sing. He was rather talented, though a good bit goofy when he wanted to be. Without pausing, she watched his tail and parted her maw so she could sing along with him, a random made up song for the two of them to enjoy together.

"The sun in shining down on us~ The birds are singing all around us~" She smiled brightly before letting a giggle left her. This was so pleasing, so much fun.. That was one of the reasons she would follow Partridge wherever he ended up wanting to go.

Her steps quickened after a moment and she caught up to him, their shoulders near eachother as she leaned over and gave his ear a soft tug with her teeth. She gave a playful grin before taking off in the direction he had been walking.

In spite of the absence of one of their alphas and half of the pups, Merrill thought the YMCA pack was flourishing, or in the least was alive. Mayhaps that was due to the vivaciousness of the two remaining pups, or the lessening of jobs with a new member to take them on, or the simple fact that Edgar had left. Gone. Vanished. If you had asked Meme, she would have said it would have been a mere matter of time before this happened anyway. Good riddance really. Now the place smell better!

The beta had just come back from a regular walk about the forest, not mindful of the cold as she shook snow from her pelt after it fell from a branch onto her back. Midday meant she was due for a nap, and already Merrill could feel a yawn coming on. "Can't ever miss the daily nap, else -" She paused in talking to herself - some strange habit she had picked up sometime ago - and swivelled her ears in the direction of a rather lovely sound. Song, actually, a little ditty. What was Aleu doing away from the pack boundaries? Honestly . . . Merrill switched her path a bit to head towards the voice, ready to reprimand the little one for wandering off without permission.

Except . . . The tone quality was very different, and . . . there were two voices, not one! Eyes narrowing slightly, the beta pushed herself through the brush, wondering who would be so careless as to announce themselves so loudly to a neighboring pack; of course her first assumption was that they were invading, not wandering or perhaps visiting. "Who draws near?" she called as she parted through the snow-covered brush.

"Happy happy, joy joy, happy happy, jooooooooy~" On and on their little song went, making less and less sense until it was half comprised of music snippets and half comprised of unrelated words - well, besides "happy" and "joy". Hopefully that was what Dove was feeling too; and if not, well, as soon as he found them a pack, everything would be! He'd make sure they found a nice, safe, warm, friendly pack with large dens and great food and strong warriors so they'd never have to fight and could promote their singing capabilities for the good of the pack's entertainment in return and -

Rustle rustle, thump thump. "Who draws near?"

"Yipe!"

The sudden bark had been loud enough to break his content thgouht flow and startle him, and the easily frightened male ducked behind Dove with bent ears, whining softly. Partridge's exeperiences in the jungle had broken his courage almost completely, tempering him into a sensitive male with no backbone. Luckily, Dove was here! "N-No-one draws near!" he replied in a high tenor. "No-one is here!"

Aleu danced around Ki-Adi as she watched over her for the day. Humming a merry tune as she bounced about Aleu tried her hardest to get Ki to join in, but the wolfess was still a bit shy and seemed more concerned about keeping her eye on Aleu than anything else. "Come on Ki its fun to sing!" She called out as she ran back and forth along the trail they were on. "Ki-Adi has fur that is blue, And it's also orange too! She's a bit shy and I don't know why. But I like her anyways..." Aleu's song trailed off as she heard something off in the distance.

Coming to a stop she listened hard for the faint sound. Then her eyes sparkled and maw formed into a smile. "Ki! Do you hear that? It sounds like singing." Taking off at a run she headed in the direction of the song. "Come on Ki! Let's go find out who it is." Oh this was so exciting, so far she was the only wolf in the pack who had any musical talent so the chance to meet another singing wolf...or maybe it was that singing fox her mother had told her about, was an opportunity she refused to miss out on.

Ki-Adi had never really had much experiences with pups in her old pack, not because the pack lacked them but because she'd been far to busy tying to sneak off and avoid the others. Now here she was often playing the babysitter, something she didn't complain about, she truly did want to help out in her new home even if she was somewhat uncomfortable with it. These were not just any pups after all...but the Alpha's pups...and her first pups at that, thankfully today it was just Aleu. Aleu was normally the best behaved pup - could always be counted on to do what she was told and not get into trouble...

Or perhaps she should reconsider as Aleus singing sudden;y stopped and she dashed off bidding her to follow. Ki scrambled to give chase..oh gods, oh gods..she couldn't loose the pup! and rushed after her earth toned hide. Thankfully for all her head start Aleu was still a puppy and moved at puppy speed - meaning Ki-adi caught up with her just as she burst out of the trees to spot two strange wolves and Merrill. "Aleu!" She called out "Aleu please stop and wait!"

Dove had to giggle, she loved their song and how it meant everything and nothing at the same time. As soon as she heard the voice of a new wolf, her paws stopped and she stared over to where it came from.

Of course, Partridge hid behind her. She was tempted to roll her eyes at the other, but instead giggled and sniffed a little at the air. "If there was no one here, Parry, no one would be able to answer." Her voice was quiet, a whisper to keep others from hearing her. Her tail gave a small wag, as if to reassure him and promise that they would be fine. She wasn't much of a fighter--but that didn't mean she needed to hide.

It was surprising, though, to have a pup coming running. As soon as it ended up in front of her paws, she stared down at it and her tail started to wag a mile a minute.

"Hello there, cutey." She cooed, her words almost musical as she did so.

Partridge couldn't help himself, he was freakishly easily frightened! Many weeks of being stuck behind a cage, listening to the clanks of spears against the wooden bars to force him to sing, the signal that hell had begun! Oh, how he still had nightmares about the ordeal! Even a meager pup made him twitch anxiously, and . . . Oh ye gods, adults! He whimpered pathetically and stuck close to Dove, eyeing them with wide chocolate eyes. "S-Sorry . . ."

It seemed the pack was so tight-knit that whereever one went, there was sure to be at least one other following after - coincidence, design, or purposefully, Y-M-C-A wolves had this uncanny knack for finding each other. "Aleu, slow down," Merrill said as she caught up to the little one, tossing a glance at Ki-Adi with a small sigh. It seemed she did not have a good disciplinarian hold. "It isn't polite to run up to strangers like this. Now, who are you?" she asked, now addressing the pair. "You are near YMCA pack borders."

"M-My name's Partridge, m-m-miss . . ." He bowed his head, coy and tapping the ground lightly with a paw as if spelling out a rhythm - a nervous, self-conscious habit of his.

As she slide to a stop between Merrill and the two strange wolves a large smile grew on her maw as the female spoke. Her voice sounded so musical. These must have been the ones she heard earlier. "Hi!"

Her smile faded at Merrill's word a bit, but she moved to stand beside Merrill anyways. "I'm sorry Aunt Meme." She murmured quietly but then perked up again. "But I heard singing!" Eyes moved to Ki for a moment, she hadn't intended to get the nice wolf in trouble for running off like that but sometimes even a good pup like Aleu had to break the rules. "Don't be mad at Ki, she tried to stop me but I didn't listen."

Ki-Adi's head ducked with a guilty look on her face at Merrill's reprimand, slinking closer to Aleu in a low shuffling pace as thought to make up for her earlier transgression, though her eyes fell on the two strangers - ah no one she recognized, not from her old pack, no need she told herself firmly to worry - why the male he looked almost as shy and frightful as she was.

At least they didn't look dangerous then, which was a relief a Ki hated fighting and even more then she hated fighting she hated the thought of letting Aleu run straight into possible trouble. At least Merrill had been here to stop her.
