Mazhira had managed to slip away from her dad, grinning slightly to herself. She was so excited to explore her new found world, finally away from her pride and no one ever understanding her. She found her daddy and along with him her voice.
Hira bounded along humming as loudly as she could and enjoying the sounds she could make, "Mhhhmm mmmm hhhmmm."
It was a bright, sunny morning and she felt as though nothing could go wrong. Unfortunately, she was not paying attention to where she was going, tripped tumbling into a hole. She looked aaround slightly dazed from her fall and wondered just what happened. Mazhira tried to scramble out of the hole, but found it was just a little to deep for her.
She was in quite a predicament. She jumped trying to reach the top of the hole and just barely missing everytime. She felt panicked and in her panic she forgot her new found voice. Mazhira was becoming very frustrated as she continued her silent struggle.

Kalenda was in a very bad mood. It didn't happen too often, at least not as of late. Without that miserable excuse for a prince running around, being stupid and unfindable, she was usually in a good mood.
Except when she thought about him.
Which was a lot recently. She was heading back to the pride to see how things were going, and because of that he was constantly on her mind. Useless jerk. Oh well. Whatever. She'd deal with him whenever she next saw him.
Looking around, she heard some strange sound in the air. Then they stopped suddenly, and she heard a thump nearby. Padding toward the source of the sounds before they had stopped, she saw a little hole and heard some scrambling.
"Hello?" She peeked into the hole, spotting a cub down at the bottom of it. "Oh! Are you okay? Do you need some help?"

Mazhira landed hard on her bottom her last jump. She felt as though she would never get out and what if her father never found her. She felt close to tears and her panic was increasing. So when the stranger approached she did not see or hear her, until she spoke.
Hira looked up and her eyes filled with teary delightly. She shook her head furiously at the first question and nodded quickly at the second. Her eyes pleaded with the female that stood above her, asking for the females help. Hira was still forgetting her voice, having not used it for very long. It had yet to become second nature to her.
Hira stood and reached up the wall of dirt, standing on her hind legs. She barely reached half way, but still she stretching hoping the female would be able to get her out.

Watching the quiet little girl, Kalenda wondered if she was just shy, of it she had hurt herself in some way. She looked quite upset, but said she was okay. Or. Shook her head in a way that implied she was okay.
So maybe she was just a quiet cub.
Watching the pleading expression, Kalenda rolled her eyes and nodded slowly, as if being argued into this. "Okay, okay, I'll get you out," she said, on a sigh. Physical labor was not her forte. She usually had other people around to do these things for her.
Stooped down, Kalenda reached down far enough to be able to take the cub by the scruff of her neck, hauling her carefully from the hold and putting her down on the ground nearby.
"There you are. Don't look so sad," she said, nudging the girl with her nose in an effort to comfort her. Kalenda didn't know much about cubs, but she was almost good with them. Sometimes.
"You sure you're okay?"

Hira stiffen slightly before relaxing in the grip of the female as she wa lifted out of her prison. She sighed lighlty as she was placed on the ground and nudged lightly. She could feel her panic ease aways slowly.
When she was asked if she was okay she nodded slowly and gave a small smile. "I tripped," she said in a slow manner pronuncing her words carefully. Though she remember her voice, her panic nerves made her speech a less refined, but Hira was use to this. She'd only been using her voice for about a week. It was still so new to her.
"Hi," she said quietly, "um thank you very much for your help."
Mazhira stood and shook her fur out lightly. She had brown dusty dirt all down her belly and on her paws. She was not use to being so dirty.

Kalenda smiled when the cub actually replied. So she could talk! That was a good thing, at least. But smiling because the cub said she had tripped probably wasn't the best decision, so she nodded slowly instead, sympathetic.
"You're welcome, little one," she said politely, smiling. She always found that cubs either had the best manners or the worst. There usually wasn't any in between. This one was pleasing in that area, at least, since she was being polite and thus earned it in return.
If she had been rude Kalenda might have put her back down in the hole.
"Here, let me help," the lioness said, not realizing she had any motherly instincts in her. She moved to help groom the cub, licking away the clinging dirt before pulling back to make sure the cub's pelt was clean. Nodding in satisfaction, she tilted her head.
"Where are your parents? You seem a bit young to be out here, falling into holes all by yourself."

Mazhira was a bit surprised at the help she recieved in her dirt removal. She allowed it, feeling very warm and happy. It reminded her of her mother and made her realize that she missed her gentle ways.
"Thank you," she spouted as the female finished and she was once again all clean.
She sat up straight as the female spot to her, but a pulled a shy embarrassed face at the question given to her. "I'm not all alone. I am traveling with my papa. He is asleep in our den and well I kind of snuck away for a bit. I learned my lesson though, I do not think I like being stuck in holes."
Mazhira gave a small sheepish smile while looking up at the female slightly. She wondered for a second if she would be scolded or punished in some way.
"I am Mazhira," she said, hoping to forgo a scolding.

Kalenda smile. This cub was awfully cute! Maybe all cubs were. She really needed to remember to spend more time with some, just to make sure. There were probably a lot of really annoying ones out there, too. This one was a bit older, after all, so maybe she had just been raised right.
Cubs were complicated.
"You snuck away? Well that's not good. He might worry about you if he wakes up and you're not there, you know," she said, though she hadn't quite perfected a scolding tone. It sounded more like a note. A suggestion, the cub might bear in mind the next time she slipped away from her father, rather than an effort to get the cub to not do it.
"It's nice to meet you, Mazhira," she said pleasantly, "I'm Kalenda. Hopefully, if we meet again, it won't be with you down a hole. That can't have been fun. But I think you should get back to your father soon, don't you?"
There, that was a good effort, she thought to herself, to be a bit more 'parental'.

Mazhira knew she shouldn't have snuck away, but she did not feel to bad as the scolding did not sound much like a scolding. Mazhira had not really thought about how he would worry.
"I guess you are right," she said. "He only just found me and I think he would feel really bad if he could find me. Probably worse if he had to go tell my mama, that he could not find me."
Mazhira nodded and smiled at Kalenda's greeting, "It is nice to meet you to Miss Kalenda. I really do hope that the next time we meet it will not be with me down a whole as well."
Sighed sighed lightly knowing Kalenda was right and she would have to go back to her father soon, though she really wanted to explore a bit more. He face looked as though she was thinking hard on the issue, but after a few moment she nodded.
"Yes, as much as I want to explore I should probably go back to the den and wait for my papa to wake up."

Only just found her? Kalenda didn't know what that meant, but it sounded like a happy thing, since family coming together was always happy. Or so she imagined. She didn't really have any family to speak of. She smiled and moved to nudge the young lioness with her nose, as if to help her on her way home.
"Well, if he just found her you I doubt he wants to wake up without you! And we wouldn't want him in trouble with your mom."
Aww, Miss Kalenda. That was cute.
Watching the cub contemplate things, Kalenda laughed. "If you go home, maybe he can take you out and explore with you? That might be fun for the both of you. And he can keep you out of any more holes, big or small."

Mazhira listen to Kalenda and stood. It looked to her as though she would be going home to her papa. She did mind though.
"No ma'am," she said gently, "He definitely does not want trouble with my mother." Mazhira giggled.
She did not move until Kalenda suggested that her father could take her exploring. She nodded happily at the suggestion. Of course they could explore together and maybe later on they could have some meat. Meat sounded good to Hira.
She looked to Kalenda, "Thank you for all your help Miss Kalenda. I bet me and my papa will have lots of fun exploring and he can help me jump over holes instead of landing in them."
Mazhira started off, but turned back after a minute, "I'll tell my papa about you and maybe next time we meet he will be with me. Goodbye Miss Kalenda."
Mazhira turned again and started to trot off towards where she knew her den to be.

"It's no trouble! I'm glad to have met you. Say hello to your father for me. If I ever meet him, I won't tell him about the hole thing. So you don't get in trouble."
She smiled, almost teasing. She doubted she would ever meet her father, since the Queen was leaving these lands and heading back home, but there was always the off chance of it happening.
Maybe.
"Goodbye, and stay safe! Eyes on the ground ahead of you, so it doesn't get any more sneak attacks in," she warned playfully, smiling. She watched the cub walk off before she made to turn back to her own path, her mood much improved.
Cubs were complicated, she reminded herself, but awfully cute.
END!
