Keena smiled to herself as she padded along a path unknown and unseen. She’d not come this way before, but that meant very little to her. The grass and trees and ground must stay where it was, but people moved. New dirt or old beneath her paws, the people who walked upon it with her could be anyone at all. The wind was whispered through the grass and her fur, clouds were chasing across the sky, the sun shone in warm splotches across her back as the feathery clouds drifted by. It was warm, not unpleasantly so, but enough that the small pool of water that she was approaching would feel rather nice.

She paused to lap up a quick drink, dabbling a cream-toed paw in it for a moment before laying down on the grassy bank with both forepaws making tiny ripples in the pool.

Yes, this was quite nice. The only thing that could possibly make laying here under the green trees and amongst the scattering brightly colored blooms would be a friend to talk to. But one couldn't have everything. It was a beautiful day, and she'd found a beautiful place to be. There was every reason to be content where she was, feeling lonely was silliness when the world was shared with so very many people.

Dysini'mbus has been prepared to just walk straight passed the beautiful field but something had caught his eye. The beautiful blooms that filled it reminded him of long ago, when he used to play with his sisters in fields just like these. A straight smile lit up his face, half lonely and half filled with fondness. Padding into the blooms, he lowered his face to smell gentle aroma. Biting down on one of the stems, he plucked it from the ground. He collected several more blooms, moving over to a area with less flowers. Dropping the picked flowers down to the ground, he flopped to this stomach.

Chuckling to himself, he couldn't quite believe that he was doing this, he unsheathed one claw and began to cut gently at the stems. Using his paw and mouth, he carefully moved one of the other stems into the hole he had just cut. Humming as he worked on making a flower wreath like he used to make for his sisters.

Warm golden eyes watched the ripples curve out across the small pool of water, her paws bobbing slowly beneath the surface. Just enough to make some ripples, not enough to really splash. It was pleasantly quiet here, by the pool that probably supplied most of the flowers the water they needed. It probably spread all along underground and their little roots reached down down down until they could satisfy their thirst as Keena had hers.

Oh yes, it was really quite wonderful here. Sunny and warm and sweet-smelling and just...beautiful...

Pale ears perked at the soft sound of humming. Was...someone there? Truly? She turned to look, though she didn't really see anyone in particular amongst all the blooms. Perhaps it was a small person then, like her friend Kisun. Or perhaps someone taking a rest. Either way, they sounded happy to her.

It was always nice to meet someone happy. Smiling, resisting the urge to try to hum along, since she was not always invited to and not always welcome to interrupt as some people seemed to feel, she rose from her spot by the pool with a shake of her damp paws. And then she turned to move through the flowers, listening for where the sound was coming from. A soft white mound of fur caught her eye, and quietly, Keena approached the strange feline. She paused for a moment, watching the soft-furred cat before smiling brightly.

"Beautiful day," she said softly, her voice warm and sweet as she took a few steps closer. Some people, she'd learned, liked to have their space. And so she was always careful about how close she got before getting permission, she hated to upset anybody after all.

The movements were familiar and soothing, the creation of something new was a suprisingly pleasant feeling. He had missed making them, he realised, smiling to himself as he finished one of the wreaths. He stared at it, almost blankly, wondering what he was going to do now. He had no sister to gift it to, nor a daughter or female companion. He was just some lonely feminine male with a flower wreath now.

He sighed heavily, pushing the flowers away. His humming had come to a stop at his realisation, and he paused when he heard the sound of paws coming his way. Glancing up, startled, his eyes widened as he spotted a lioness.

She was quite beautiful, he realised, taking in her colours, but she did not look overly feminine. He was jealous of her coat. No one would mock him if he had a pelt like that, surely. He finally realised she had spoken to him and cleared his throat, peering at her curiously. He didn't seem to ntoice he was surrounded in flowers.

"Hello there miss," he greeted her politely, voice soft. "Yes, the sun is gifting us with a beautiful day today." He said this slightly awkwardly, not used to small talk.

Keena was sorry that she'd disturbed his quiet little melody, as she often was. At least he didn't seem upset that she'd heard, as Maktaba had been. It was a shame, really, that someone might be embarrassed for expressing a feeling through sound. Even if it wasn't the most flawless song, any music that meant someone was happy was a wonderful thing to hear.

His snowy white coat looked beautiful where he rested in the field of brightly colored flowers. It looked so soft...

"So..." Keena began, slightly uncertain as how to respond. He was being polite, it felt like, which might mean he was bothered by her. Sometime people were far too polite when they wished to be left alone, she hated to discover so belatedly that she was annoying someone. Keena hated to bother anyone...upsetting someone was so...distressing. But when her eyes fell of the small wreath of flowers, her intrest was perked. It was so clever... how was it done?

"Did you make that?" she asked curiously, taking another step towards the pretty leopard, her golden eyes fixed on the wreath the primary indication of what her question was regarding. And yes, he was very pretty, but that didn't mean anything negative at all. Such white fur wasn't common to come across, usually it looked dirty, not that there was any harm in that either!

He glanced down in surprise at the wreath she mentioned. Was it surprising to think he, as a male had made it, or that anyone had made a wreath? He turned the question over in his head, trying to figure it out but soon gave up, sensing no ill will in the query.

"Yes,"
he admitted, pawing the flowers, He grabbed it in his mouth and got to his feet, holding it out to her. After giving her a moment to view it, he lifted it and gently dropped it onto her head. "I learnt when I was young, I used to make them for my sisters," he said, peering at how she looked, the wreath now perched on her head. Carefully, he used his tail to poke it into place, so it was in place on her head properly.

" I find myself making them without anyone to give them to," he said, with a slightly bitter life, his want of children or family obvious. "It would honor me if you would keep it for yourself, miss," he said, motioning to the wreath lightly.

"Wow..." she breathed, impressed. Though a part of her knew he must have made it, since no one else was currently about. So it had been a silly sort of question to ask, but... it had somehow seemed necessary. She leaned forward slightly, peering at the bright flowers all strung together when he held it out, then ducked her head slightly as he placed it on her.

"Thank you!" Keena beamed, trying to look up and see it even as the leopard helped her to settle it into place just right. "I'm Keena, by the way. It's so lovely to meet you. Would you...show me how it's done?" she asked after a moment, pawing gently at one of the many flowers scattered about, "They're so pretty..."

Kind of like he was. Beautiful white fur with soft cool-hued spots on his shoulders. And such a sweet boy too! She was very glad indeed to have come through this flower-filled field, even more so to have met such a wonderful person.

It did Dysi good to see her light up, obviously pleased with his gift. He had missed the company, he realised and she reminded him vaguely of one of his sisters, who had always been fascinated by the flowers. He had taught her too, just as his mother had taught him, so maybe it was alright to show this...Keena how to.

"A pleasure to meet you, Keena, I am Dysini'mbus, but it's fair easier to call me Dysi,
" he introduced, bowing his head to her. He glanced towards the flowers and nodded. "Sit with me, I'll show you how to. They're not hard," he explained patiently, dragging some of the already picked flowers towards him. He carefully cut one of the stems, making sure it was visible to her.

The moves were familiar and easy to the male, who had done it all his life, though he knew it would be awkward for a beginner who was only just starting out, but playing with the flowers was still fun, whether you got a crown out of it or not!

She nodded brightly when he introduced himself and said to call him Dysi, then froze, her eyes lifting so see if she'd somehow dislodged the flower crown he'd just given her. She couldn't see it though. Well...maybe that was good? If she could see it, then it wouldn't be on her head anymore. And it still felt like it was there. So...probably?

"Dysi it is then," she agreed, bowing her head very, very carefully in return. Dysini'mbus would be difficult to pronounce with any frequency, she wasn't even entirely sure she could get her tongue around it properly. She'd feel bad if she kept saying his name wrong, and for a moment was grateful to her mother for giving her such a simple name. Kee-na. Short and easy to say.

Grinning with excitement, Keena shifted to sit beside the pretty leopard, her golden eyes intent on what he was doing. Easy, neat, precise motions. Slowly, once she'd watched him long enough to get an idea, she reached for one of the flowers. Ever so carefully, with another glance at what Dysi was doing she lifted a paw and began to cut into the stem.

A few minutes later she had a small pile of slightly crushed, wilted, or torn flowers. Petals drooped around her paws, and shredded bits of stem clung to her claws. Her ears had lowered slightly, and she kept looking over at Dysi's work, wondering what she was doing wrong. She tried to move her paws the same way he did! She was just... she felt so clumsy right now. It felt like all she was doing was ruining the pretty blooms. Some of them looked to be almost right, in a slightly mangled sort of way... kind of.

"...am I doing something wrong?" she finally asked, lifting her paw to survey the latest attempt. The stem was cut right, but it was also sort of squished looking...

Dysi watched as the female attempted to create a flower crown as well, his own paws moving easily to cut the flower stems and soon, he had formed a second crown while she was still mutilating the stems she had before her. He used his nose to nudge at his flower crown until it was perfectly circle, glancing up in surprise when she stopped. He hid a grin at the sight of the mangled flowers. Grabbing the new flower crown in his mouth, he dropped it on top her head, with the first one, to create a double layer crown with the two different colours of flowers merging.

"You just need practice,
" Dysi told her gently. "I managed far more then that when I was younger!" He laughed to himself and moved over, so he sat closer to her so she could see what he was doing better. Grabbing a nearby flower, he dropped it before him and went slowly as he extended his claws and dragged it down the stem of the flower. He didn't touch any other part of the flower, except the stem with his claw.

His movements were practiced and fluent, giving away the amount of time he must have spent as a child creating the flower crowns for himself and his sisters, not to mention the amount of crowns he made them for his mother. He pulled back and motioned for her to take over the making of the crown. "You try now," he told her, encouragingly.

Keena giggled faintly when he dropped the other crown onto her head, delighted to have met such a talented and wonderful person. She wished she could do the same, his motions were so smooth and precise. She wasn't upset exactly, she knew better than to think she'd get it perfect on the first try and was not one to easily be disheartened. But still...she wished she hadn't mangled the flowers quite so badly...

She watched attentively as he drew another flower towards himself, her golden eyes following the line his claw drew down the flower. How did he keep it from rolling around without touching it?

"Okay...like...this...?" Keena tried, carefully placing her an extended claw on the flower. Slowly, gingerly, she pressed down, watching with some dismay as the slender stem promptly bent in half. "...oops..." she sighed, trying to cut a line anyway and tearing it in half instead. Maybe she might be starting to feel a tiny bit frustrated by now. Maybe.

Carefully, Keena reached for another flower, batting it slowly until it was straight in front of her. Once again she reached out with a claw, but the flower started to move, as though she dragged it along instead of cutting it. Hastily she clapped her other paw down to hold it still...and squished it. The line she'd cut was straight though. And the petals didn't fall off, they just got a little...rumpled...sort of...

"...hmm." Keena frowned, flipping her paw over as if expecting to see some sort of clue written on the pad.

PostPosted: Wed May 12, 2010 9:26 pm

He watched her closely, trying to figure out what she was doing wrong so he could help her correct it, but it just seemed like a matter of practice. Her paws weren't used to the action, or the gesture needed to make the flower crowns. It took training, he knew, having been a cub when he started it was an easy process to him now. After she had squished a few more flowers, he hid a grin and moved over to her.

She was staring at her paw, as if it would hold the answer to her problem, and he let out a soft laugh. "Here, let me help," he said to her, and grabbed her paw between his, after having placed a flower before them. He pressed at the pad of her paw, to extend her claws and then using his paws to guide hers, helped her to cut along the stem of the flower. He squinted, keeping the movement slow so she would tell how to hold her paws in the correct way to get it to cut properly, and also so he didn't slip and ruin it. After all, it was difficult to hold paws without thumbs.

He pulled his paws away, when the cut had been made, and grinned at her. "See? That's what you have to do!" He made it sound simple, he knew, but to him it was.

Keena's soft gold eyes shifted to the leopard when he offered to help. She honestly wasn't sure what was wrong. She just seemed so...so clumsy compared to him. Maybe it was that her paws were bigger or something? She was vaugly on the small side for a lioness though. Not tiny, but perhaps not quite average either.

Still, it seemed more like a matter of gace than size really. She was quite relaxed as he moved her paw, letting her claws extend almost languidly as he pressed at her pad, watching the way he made her move. She was a bit surprised when he pulled away, leaving her with a cut that had actually come out well.

"Oh, I see!" she exclaimed excitedly, looking from her suddenly useful paw to the flower and then back at him with a gleeful expression on her face. "I think I know how it's supposed to go now..."

Her next try was almost moderately successful. It still came out looking somewhat...squished. But the stem had been cut in a fairly straight line, and the petels weren't all crushed. Her tail flicked once or twice, eagerness making her want to be more energetic, but actually acting so would only make her crush more of the pretty blooms. Still, she was much more excited now than she had been when she was struggling to figure out what she'd done wrong.

The next flower came out much the same, as did the one afterward, but they were somewhat better than her first attempts. Imperfection was more than acceptable, so long as it was accompanied by some manner of improvement after all.

"But...how do you make them a crown?"
PostPosted: Fri May 14, 2010 10:30 pm

Dysi smiled at her obvious excitement, his tail flicking eagerly behind him. He enjoyed teaching people, especially people who seemed so happy to learn a new skill. She seemed happy, now that she was slowly getting the hang of it.

Her flowers were still a little on the squished side but they were at least well cut. The stems were in good form, and not broken, just a little wonky at times. They were perfectly fine though, he thought, eying them, he could still work with them.

"Oh, it's easy from this point,"
he told her, pulling his own already cut flowers over to him. It wasn't easy though. He used his paws, a little awkwardly even after years of practice, to slip the stems of flowers through the cuts in the other stems, making a chain quickly.

It had taken him a long time to work out how to use his clumsy paws to get the stems through the cuts, but after a while, he had gotten the hang of it. He presented the third finished crown to her, so she could see what he'd done.

Keena looked hopefully at Dysi when he said it got easier from that point. It had been tough up to here, even though it looked so easy the way he did it. So smooth and effortless. Not at all like her attempts. But she did okay. She was getting better, she'd get there soon. Practice was all it would take. Lots and lots of practice.

Unfortunately, what he was doing...looked impossible. Keena stared for a long time, watching the strange way his paws moved and someone, like magic, made the flower stems flow into one another. That...that didn't seem easy at all.

Nonetheless, Keena would try. Slowly, carefully, clumsily, she slid flower stems together. It took ages, and she broke a few in the process. But she would do this, she would! Infinitely patient, though maybe just a smidge discouraged, almost, she kept at it until, finally, a very crooked, very battered ring of crushed flowers lay on the ground before her.

She tried not to look dismayed as she looked between her attempt and the one Dysi had used to demonstrate. "Well...it...it's...connected... ... kind of..." she mumbled, afraid to touch it because it seemed as though it might fall apart. And she'd wanted to give it to him too. He'd given her two, and she'd only made a mangled mess out of hers...
