A faint trail of moonlight marked the long forgotten path that the unitaur trod upon. It had once been a paved road that supported the life of many living nearby - now all that was left was a swamp. The unitaur's hands glided lightly over the bark of trees as she floated past. Mother Nature had successfully hidden the evidence of death as she claimed back that land rightfully her's. What devastation had this place once brought. A sigh left the unitaur's lips.
The emotions left behind were so strong that even she - a young unitaur compared to the ones who had fought here- could imagine the battle field. The scene replayed itself, reflecting crimson in her silver eyes. Such a painful place. A place that she would never travel to with a light heart.
Yet she had promised. Promised long ago to come and remember. For who but the 'myths' could recall the bloodshed that had occurred centuries ago?
She stopped. There in the middle of a swampy marsh rested a huge monument marked with strange symbols. No vines or wear had torn at the marker for even now the magic that had once been cast protected it. The unitaur marveled at this magic.
Of course she knew that others helped. Her uncle for one had been a visitor - one to remember them. His magic was with those that protected the marker - as was hers. Not much compared to the rest, just enough to keep the magic flowing even beyond their deaths.
"Peace be to these souls." Whispered the unitaur as a swirl of wind encased the marsh. Petals, spring cherry blossoms along with others, swirled around her as she touched the throbbing stone.
Energy flared as the tip of her horn grazed barely against the monument. Flowers signs of spring and life grew quickly at the base decorating the waters with floating petals that flickered a pale glow. Her bowed head raised slowly as the last spark of magic faded.
Mei-Lin had remembered. Just as promised.

Christian had long since chosen to walk the path of darkness and shun the light. He followed the markers of a long forgotten path through the marsh with his hooves making nothing, but the lightest ripples. Moonlight blended with the strands of his hair and casted shadows on his armor. Relics of a forgotten age, he mused. There were no wars anymore, no battles, no warriors to call brother.
Just a forgotten stone in a swamp.
With his cloak draping over the wings tattooed on his back he blended far better with the dank surroundings. Once long ago he had come here with his sister, but now he travelled a broken shell of the boy he once was. A man with no past and no future.
As the wind stirred Christian picked up the scent of flowers. His hand sought the hilt of his sword as he tredded carefully onward. Then he saw her.

Mei-Lin's attention had been consumed by images of the past. So consumed that she hadn't noticed anyone's approach. Why should she have put up a guard? The actual chance of another coming to this place on this very night was rare- so rare that she had actually believed it impossible.
Slowly her gaze turned to him as her eyes cleared to their usual silvery depths. Mei-Lin inhaled in surprise. Another unitaur? Her heart beat loudly in her ears. His wear - that sword and armor. It was almost as if he was one of the dead come back. But no, he wasn't see through like a spirit.
She frowned as she stared silently at him. Still he did have an otherworldly appearance about him. Yet didn't all unitaurs carry something of the like for their auras?
Mei-Lin didn't speak, only moved to the side a bit. Never once did her eyes leave the unitaur. Questions bubbled beneath the surface, but she dared not ask questions aloud in such a solemn place.
Who was this stranger?

Christian's eyes never wavored as he asessed the female. She was so bright and full of life that he would have thought her terribly lost were it not for the stone.
He cautiously made his way closer and unsheathed his runed blade to stretch it out across the stone surface. "Peace be to these souls." Christian whispered and closed his eyes, allowing his magic to flow through the him to the marker as a gift before sheathing his blade.
It wasn't like he wasn't pleased to see another unitaur, but he just didn't care. He turned his back on her and walked off without a sound.

He was leaving?
Mei-Lin's lips pursed in careful thought before she took one last gaze at the stone and trotted after the strange unitaur. At least she knew one thing for a fact - he hadn't just stumbled here. Somehow he must have heard about the marker, maybe it was a family responsibility passed down to him as well?
Her tail flicked behind her. It was interesting really. The first unitaur she had seen in years. Yet he didn't seem to be too upset by her appearance. She, however, found her curiosity aflame. Was he a loner? A family man that had hidden them all from the rest of the world? A broken hearted one?
The female nearly stopped in mid-step at the thought. Was he like her? Alone in this world as well? A wanderer? Mei-Lin shook her head. Anyway it wasn't any business of hers. Though her gaze never left his back.
She knew that he knew she was following. But she didn't care that he knew. Not even the sounds of bells on her tail ringing faintly with each step bothered her as she followed him away from the memorial.

Christian's ears flipped forward. He didn't like the fact that the female was keen to follow him now. Two of the same kind in one spot made them an easier target, exspecially when she was so brightly colored. It made him nervous.
In one swift movement he pulled his hood over his head. The strong runes on his cloak burned bright for a second, sweaping over his body to transform him into an ordinary centaur before he took off at a bolt.
He came to a pause on a stone, looking back at her like the knight of the dead before taking off again. In case he never saw another of his kind before he died he wanted to remember her face. And her scent.

Mei-Lin didn't realize that she was picking up her speed as he bolted forward. She hadn't meant to give chase or to follow him this far. So why wasn't she stopping? Mei froze as he froze, shock planted on her features.
Something else brimmed along with her obvious tears - hurt and confusion. Was there something wrong with her that he had to bolt? She didn't know why but the rejection of another unitaur stung her deeply. That longing for one's own kind had long been pressed back in her wandering, but his presence had brought it back with vigor.
The tears overflowed as he stopped for that second. Her gaze sought for his to find a hint of understanding, but he had turned away far too quickly. Disappointment at being rejected by one of her own kind turned to a smoldering feeling - stubbornness.
Her hands glowed as she dissipated into an oddly spring like breeze that flowed strongly after the other unitaur.

He knew that look on her face.
It was one he had mirrored so many times himself in the water, but what good would it do for him to stop? How long was it going to take her to die out like everyone else?
Christian was used to sprinting around stones and brambles. After all, thats all his home was. It was the muck that slowed him down. He placed his palm on the bark of a tree to bounce off the side when he smelt cherry blossom's again. It felt like she was right on him! He spun around, only to see nothing. Magic.
"Stop this now and be on your way." He stood firm with an empassive expression, eyes burning like the hottest of flames. "You have no business with me."

"So you do speak." Mei-Lin's voice brushed softly against Christian's ear before she found herself back in her true form. She peeked out from around the tree, a light flush on her cheeks from the use of magic.
His eyes made her hide behind the tree again. Though it was obvious that her gaze still peeked at him through the branches. "I apologize, sir. Really I do." She swallowed and tapped her fingers lightly against the rough bark, "It's just- you're a unitaur!"
And he also knew of that site - something that she had never seen another being near, excluding some of her family when they were alive. It was a mystery to find him there and she just couldn't let go of the meeting. Fate. Another thing her family had strongly believed.
Ah, it was amazing to hear another of her kind speaking to her. Mei-Lin smiled feeling like a child as she leaned against the tree.

Christian shivered and inhaled the sweet scent. "I've spoken before." He stated bluntly. His arms folded across his chest from beneath the cloak, knocking his thick pendant around on his chest. "I'm a centaur, nothing more. Forget what you've seen."
With that he bowed graciously to her and walked off again, clearly dismissing their conversation. She made his skin crawl with all of her constant staring. Wasn't he a freak enough among the masses, let alone his own people?

"Not that I ever heard." Replied Mei-Lin quickly. The next statement definitely made the female raise an eyebrow. How could she forget what she had seen? Seriously? This other unitaur definitely didn't seem like the talkative type either.
Which really wasn't a bad thing. Mei-Lin slipped from the trees and with a simple tug at the hem of her sleeves found her form slipping into that of a petite cervitaur. Her hooves dug sheepishly into the ground. Which was more rude, following him or just leaving abruptly like that?
She sighed. "I'm Mei-Lin!" Her voice floated over to him gentle as a breeze. At least she could give him her name. Even if he was so set on just leaving her out here alone, a perfectly young unitaur without any weapons.
Mei-Lin shook her head. That was a lie. Right now she felt more like a stalker than anything. Yet, she just refused to let another unitaur just disappear under her nose! She frowned as she moved forward. He could at least give her his name before poofing!

When was she going to get the hint? Was it getting so bad that his species had to resort to inbreeding? His spirits drooped farther. There was no hope for the race.
Christian neither acknowledged her name or her presence, just kept walking. She came from somewhere so she would leave and go back to there soon enough.
His sister had never been this talkative. Or his mother, for that matter. Both women spoken even less than he did now. So why was she so damned noisy? "I will not say it again," he dipped his head to the side to speak. "You have no business with me. Leave."

"Again! Leave?" Mei-Lin was slowly losing her temper. Slowly however only lasted so long with the female unitaur, especially with this male. "I just want to meet another of my kind, you know!"
She pouted and stomped her hooves against the ground in frustration. "I don't understand the cold exterior, sir. What's happened to common courtesy?" Mei-Lin sighed loudly before turning around with her hair flipping to the side. "Well maybe I don't wish to speak to you either now." Angry now the unitaur started to quickly trot away.
Her watery eyes nearly missed the pairs of glowing red ones that gleamed from the bushes on both sides. "Uh-oh." Mei-Lin gasped as she tried her best to stop mid-run. Surprise gave it advantage - there wasn't time for her to use magic before it slashed lethal claws at her.

Christian was starting to hate females. The memories of his mother, sister, and neice weren't enough to drown out the intense feeling he had in the pit of his stomach to slice that damn woman's mouth right off her head. "Yes and I don't. So. Leave."
"Common courtesy died out centuries ago." When he turned to her he saw that she was already walking away. He snorted. At least she..finally...wait. The hairs on the back of his neck were prickling as his sword vibrated. He saw the beasts before she did and pounding after her as fast as he could, he shielded her blow with his arm and swung at the beast with his sword. "RUN!"
Christian roared as one landed on his back, knocking the odd from off his head and forcing him to transform. He rolled it off with an effort and grabbed her arm, "Move it! I'm not sure about you, but I do not wish to die here."

Mei-Lin's eyes widened in surprise at the protection. Oh! So it was one of those - I hate people but can't leave them alone with the beasts personality types. The unitaur rolled her eyes but quickly twisted around to avoid another leaping beast. Goodness!
And to think that she tried to never kill anyone or thing. Mei-Lin frowned as she jumped away from another one. Violence wasn't something taht she was quite fond of though she realized the importance. Normally she wouldn't have noticed these things long ago and disappeared without a trace - but of course. Mei-Lin had allowed herself to be distracted by this jerk. How stupid of her.
"Alright!" Mei-Lin's hooves beat furiously against the ground and any normal taur would have been shocked at how fast the young female 'cervitaur' could run. Suddenly she stopped just in time to confuse the beasts. A grim expression crossed her face as she threw both arms out and sent out a slicing wind that forced the creatures back.
Even when they were trying to kill her, she still felt bad. Mei-Lin's expression was faint with pity as she turned back around and started pounding away again. This time a wind was beneath her hooves as she made sure the strange unitaur would get safely away with her.
