 Diona looked across the placid lake as she trudged through the muddy sand in her boots. Her shiny, maroon boots were getting dirty but she didn't mind, they'd wash off later, right now all she cared about was play. It didn't really look like that would happen though, the weather was cold, no one would be at the lake. Even she wasn't sure if she should be at the lake. Diona fluttered her wings so that she was hovering off the ground and she kicked the mud off her boots. She wished it was the summer again so she could play in the water.

Toli lurks just below the surface, his little tail wiggling, waiting for the perfect moment to strike the above-thing unawares. Wait for it....wait for it....now!
He propels himself out of the water and tackles the red Pae. "Yaaaah!" he cries. As he hits land, his chubby tail splits into two slightly less chubby legs. With...weird digits on the end. Like...fingers! "Ooh..." he says, rolling off of Diona. "That's neat....!" He wiggles his newfound toes.

Diona let loose a high pitched scream as she was tackled out of nowhere. Where did it even come from? There had been nothing around her. She was speechless for the longest time in a state of shock. "What do you think you are doing?!" she shouted at the boy, now distracted by his newly acquired limbs, as soon as she had recovered from her shock. There was nothing neat about him trying to kill her.

"Huh?" asks Toli, looking up suddenly. He'd totally forgotten she was there. "Oh, you! I was pouncing on you," he says, as if this should be obvious. "I thought you were some kinda cool land creature, but you're just another person. Check it out, I have these weird wiggly things on what used to be my tail!" He points at his toes.

Diona blinked. How could he have forgotten about her? He attacked her! She frowned at him and crossed her arms. "You were trying to kill me, you're lucky I didn't get hurt. I would have had to tattle on you." Diona wasn't exactly sure who she would tell, but she would tell someone. The boy was still off in his own world though. "Those are toes silly, everybody gots em." Was he just trying to distract her from getting mad?

"You'd tattle on me? To who?" he asks, looking around. "I don't see any grownups. It's just you and me. Would you tattle on me to myself? That doesn't seem like it makes sense."
He tries to stand up like the other person is and immediately whumps back to the ground. "Woah."
"Toes? Towz. Weird. No, I've never had toes before. I always had a tail, except for like...three seconds ago." He shrugs. It doesn't strike him that this should be problematic.

"Well I thought it was just me on the beach, but then you are here. There's an adult here, you just don't know it." Diona informed him, it made perfect sense to her. "Plus I run fast." She watched him try to stand up and then fall back down. "Faster then you." The boy didn't look like he could get anywhere fast. "That's im-plos-e-ah-bull. Toes don't just go away or grow, you always have them just like anything else."

"Yeah, well, I bet I can swim faster than you!" he exclaims. "I'm the fastest out of me, and my sister Moana, and my brother Zoran, and me." Well, that isn't exactly true. Moana had been known to beat him once or twice. Still, he nods sagely. "And for your in-fur-ma-shun, I just got these toes things like just a few minutes ago. Right when I pounced ya."

Diona didn't want to test out if he could swim faster, the water must be so cold, and she never went deep enough in the water to actually swim. She decided not to challenge him. Instead she stared him down. "You can't get toes from touching me, see?" she poked at his arm a few times. "No more toes." That would be kind of cool if toes started popping up all over his body just from her touching him, she would keep doing it until he was completely covered.

"I'm serious!" he exclaims. He jumps back into the water. "I was just hiding like this under the water, and--hey! My tail came back!" He leans back and wiggles his tail above the surface so she can see. "See? Toldya. No toes. Hey! Hey! Wanna come swimming? I can show you all kinds of cool stuff!"

Her eyes studied him curiously, what kind of weird stuff was this? "You got a tail" she observed. Diona looked from the sandy shore to the water, back and forth several times. "Uhm..." she was trying to think of an excuse other then that she couldn't swim and that it was probably too cold. "I... will... get sick... yah. I can't. You should come back here, and I will show you cool stuff."

"What kind of cool stuff?" asks Toli. He's immediately interested, though, and jumps back out of the water. And his tail splits into legs with toes again. "Woah, weird," he says. "Let's see if I can walk on 'em now." He tries to stand up again and goes whump! back down on the ground.
"Hope whatever cool stuff you wanted to show me isn't far."

"There's lots of cool stuff. I mean, you never even knew about toes! There's so much more cool stuff!" Diona exclaimed. She giggled as he fell down again, at least the sand was a nice soft thing to fall on. "You are like a baby," she told him since he had trouble walking, just like a baby. Diona needed a solution, she couldn't swim and he couldn't walk, she would just have to bring cool stuff to him.

"I didn't say you are a baby. I said you are like a baby. There's a difference." She told him, although maybe he was a baby with the way he seemed to throw a tantrum, Diona giggled at her thought. "You musta been some kinda mutant thing with no toes and a tail." She looked him over, he looked fairly normal otherwise. He didn't have wings, but she and her cousin had different wings so it was probably okay to not have them.
