Subu had lost track of the time he'd spent helping Usiku heal. She had resisted and attempted to scare him off allot at the beginning but as time wore on that had mostly stopped. Subu wasn't sure if that was because she had resigned herself to his stubborn nature - or because she'd realized she needed his help at this point in her life. Either way the male had developed a strange fondness for the temperamental female. You were never completely sure how she was going to react to something and her 'tough girl' persona kept him on his toes.

Especially now that she was nearly healed - soon if she choose to run him off she might actually be able to put some force behind her threats. Subu wasn't sure ho he would react to that, but he was glad he was getting better regardless. young vital creatures shouldn't be kept hobbled by injures. It wasn't good for their spirits. Subu's brow furrowed slightly in thought a he waited for Usiku to finish - whatever it as she was doing over there so they could continue on their way.

Stretching her muscles Usiku was please at how quickly she had healed. Pretty soon she would be back to hunting and, she shot a glance at Subu, living on her own. His company had been both a blessing and a curse for her over the last little while and she would be glad to see him go. Looking down at the scar on her chest and shoulder it looked bad still but she knew that wounds that deep took a long time to fully heal. At least it didn't hurt to move or breath anymore. That was always a bonus.

Her eyes moved to Subu once more as he waited for her. Why wait she thought. He was free to go now, she could make it on her own. And yet he still stayed with her. He's as stubborn as a water buffalo buck. And about as stupid too. And that coat of his, with its light purple and complimenting silver, it was....no don't think about it, she told herself. You want him gone remember. She shook her head to clear her thoughts, this wasn't good at all. She had to force her eyes to look away from him. Damn him.

With a sigh she finally to trot over to where he was, a bit of a limp still affecting her. "Shouldn't you be moving on now?" She asked him as she padded past him. Usiku wasn't sure where she was headed but hopefully it was somewhere away from his lavender rimmed eyes that almost begged her to stare in them. Damn no not that thought again. She shook her head harder. All this lazing around from injuries must be affecting her thinking, at least that's what she told herself.

Subu gave her an amused glance as she walked past him, as always shooting him her complimentary snarky comment on the way. His eyes studied her as she walked - it was true she was nearly back to form, limping still, but it wasn't really noticeable unless you knew to look for it. He remained silent and kept his amused look until she'd stalked on past and then rose to follow her, his features slipping from its mock amusement into deep thought and he refrained from letting out a deep sigh.

Moving on?...yes he probably should be he told himself. Going on with his own life - he'd certainly wasted enough time on her's. And she didn't even seem to care so much that he had. But still...Subu blew out a breath and then hurried to catch up to her. "Soon" he promised her after a few moments hesitation. there was no way..absolutely no way he was going to admit to having feelings for this witch of a female. He'd leave...and a few days after he had done so he'd forget all about her.

Usiku didn't have to turn her head to know that Subu was following her. She could hear his breathing, the subtle sound of his paws touching the ground and she could smell his beautiful scent. She took a deep breath as she shook her head slightly. Don't go down that path of thinking again, she told herself. You are a strong and independent dog, you don't need someone around to take care of you. There is a reason you choose the hard life out here and it wasn't to find some pretty dog to love.

She continued on in silence trying her best to keep her thoughts off of Subu, which was extremely hard with him following closely behind her. Once at the small watering hole she looped around to the far side, which honestly wasn't that far away, hoping that he would stay on the other side. Lowering her body she began to lap up the water, her ears swiveling around listening for any sounds. To say Usiku was a bit paranoid about being left prone while enjoying the water was quite the understatement. If she didn't need water to survive she probably would have stopped coming here all together.

Thankfully Subu was here to provide another set of eyes, ears and claws. Not that she believed that anything bad would happen today but one could never be too careful. That made her look over at the male again, lifting her head slightly, water dripping from her muzzle. "Thank you." She said softly, almost not wanting to say those words and then went back to drinking, her eyes staring at the water.

Subu was used to the silences that often stretched between them - at first they had been because she was trying to give him the silent treatment in hopes it ould make him leave...and now on his part at least t was because he didn't want to give voice to the thoughts swirling around his mind. Despite the reasons the silver and purple male wasn't bothered by them, everyone needed time to think things through. Ears swiveling as they reached the watering hold Subu made sure to take a good look about before joining Usiku at the waterside - he wondered briefly if the female would always have some issues with watering holes after her encounter with the Lion - and if she would end up holding grudges against lions themselves.

It doesn't matter he told himself firmly...you won't be here to find out, what happens to Usiku after you leave isn't any of your business, and she can take care of herself, despite her lapse in judgement with the lion. When she said thank you he paused, eyes turning to her for a few moments to stare in gape mouthed wonder. She'd never said thank you before and to be honest he'd never expected her to. She's probably saying thank-you that your leaving he told himself and after a few moments he cleared his throat and decided to clairify this. "thank you...for helping? ...or for leaving?"

Taking time to finish her drink Usiku left the usual silence hang before she decided to answer his question. Lifting her head she licked the droplets that clung to her fur. Her ears were alert and eyes scanned all around. Stop being so paranoid she told herself, it's not like that blasted lioness would come back to finish the job. Her muscles tensed a bit, not out of nerves but anger. She was mad at herself for becoming a like a paranoid little pup who thought itself too weak and scared to do anything. You've beat a lion in a fight before, several times in fact. Don't let that stupid lioness ruin the rest of your life. She stamped her foot to punctuate that thought.

Finally her eyes moved back to Subu who was still awaiting her answer. She didn't want to say why she was thanking him but just couldn't stop herself from talking again. "For helping." She said quite hesitantly. Usiku wasn't the type of dog that wanted help even when she was too badly injured to do anything herself. She would rather lay there and die before admitting that she needed the help. "No one else would have done so." She told him after another pause while sitting back on her haunches. In fact after all the enemies she had made out here with her bad attitude it was a miracle that those beasts hadn't tried to kill her before that lioness had gotten to her.

Subu turned his attention to the water and dipped his muzzle in to take a drink when she didn't answer him - perhaps she wouldn't. Usiku was fairly adept at remaining stubbornly silent when she wanted to, Subu had already learned that much about her in their short time together. He noticed her tension and the way she kept looking around, waiting perhaps for something to pounce out of the shadows and injure her again, the male felt bad about that but it was something she had to ork through on her own. Subu was sure she would, Usiku was a strong sort - it might take some time but he was pretty sure she'd be back to her normal angry moody self in no time.

"Oh well good" He replied when she finally answered him "I thought you were just that glad to get rid of me" He remarked with a slight chuckle as he stepped back from the water's edge and look at her, his eyes taking note of how pretty she as sitting there next to the water, though she wisely kept this observation to himself.

She did her best to look like she didn't notice that he had seen her tensing up with paranoia. Usiku was better than that, she hadn't showing weakness of any kind, especially around males, who usually assumed her sex to be weak. That's why she worked so hard to live on her own out here, to prove she was anything but weak. It's why she left her old pack behind. Her old pack, the though made her shake her head. She had not let that thought come anywhere near her in a long time. Push that thought away, it's in the past.

"Oh don't worry. I'll be glad to get rid of you." She told him in a snarky voice. Though a small part of her would be sad to see him go. At least when he was taking care of her he wasn't a lazy scavenger taking advantage of others hard work. Stop thinking of him as anything but a lazy scavenger, she scolded herself. She didn't need him around, not even if it kept him from being a scavenger.

Subu snorted softy when she said she'd be glad to be rid of him, he made sure to roll his eyes a bit so she'd think he wasn't bothered by her words. "Yeah well..I don't fancy taking care of you any longer then I have to either" He responded in an off hand matter, as though it didn't really matter to him one way or another what she thought. But even if this act managed to fool her - Subu knew it wouldn't fool his own mind, her casual disdain of him was hurtful and her words had stung. Foolish of you he told himself to have started looking at her like anything other then a burden.

A moody, cranky...ungrateful burden he expanded his definition with a sour look, and you would do well to leave her as soon as you can. Well not to quickly he cautioned himself after a few moments, I mean it would be pretty stupid to put this much time into making her well only to leave in a fit when the job was almost done. Would be an incredible waste of his time to leave and have her killed off by a lurking dog, lion or leopard with a grudge, and lets face it with Usiku's temper it was a pretty good bet that there were quite a few animals out there with the reason and means to hold a grudge for her. Yes he told himself with a slight nod and inner pat on th back, that made complete and total sense.

"I don't see why you bothered in the first place." Usiku told him as she raised herself back up. He could have easily just passed her over and left her to die. It would have been easier on both of them. Then she wouldn't have to struggle with these thoughts she was having. But she would never openly admit how she felt, she was far too stubborn for that.

Padding her way back around the lake her eyes stayed on Subu, though she made it look more like she was staring him down than anything else. He probably had some other female he had waiting for his return, maybe more. Some dogs, and other creatures for that matter, kept several mates around. He may not look the type but she knew full well that looks could be deceiving. Look at how that lioness turned out to be a good fighter even when she looking like the type that hatted getting her fur ruffled and her claws wet. But in the back of her mind she forced herself to think of him as nothing more than a dog that had a mate or two off somewhere and was only doing this in hopes of scoring a new girl to have at his side. That would make it easier for them to part ways.

"Maybe you should just be glad I did" He told her shortly when she questioned his actions "Some of us - don't need a reason to do the right thing" He continued with a huff. why did she always have to be so difficult? Why couldn't she just be kind and sweet and thankful like most others would in her situation - Subu had done everything he could to make her comfortable, to help her heal quickly, to make her feel useful despite her injuries...and here she was dismissing him like one would dismiss a servant, tell him he ought to have just left her to her fate. The nerve!

But other thoughts swirled in Subu's mind, thoughts he wouldn't admit - even to himself. Sure she was ill tempered and stubborn...but she was also strong and independent and smart, and Subu knew she just wouldn't be the same if she were a simpered pampered dog. He'd never liked those type - he found them dull and uninteresting, he liked rebels. you can't have a rebel without the rebels temper, he reminded himself and then instantly chastised this thought. You don't have her..she doesn't want you. It's better this way.

Coming to a stop not far from Subu she looked upon him again, forcing her mind to focus on what she wanted to say and not on his looks. "The right thing?" He asked though it was more a thought than a question. Of course she was glad he had helped out, but that would be a secret she would hide from everyone, including Subu. "I've never been a firm believer in doing the right thing." To Usiku doing the right thing meant showing a weakness, and she was not weak.

She shook her head. The sooner he left the sooner she would be plagued by such thoughts, those of being weak, helpless, of him being her eye candy. No, stop thinking that way. Damn he was leaking into every thought she had. What she needed to do was some good hunting, killing always made her mind clear. Yes, that's whats he would do. Go hunting after he left and get rid of all these crazy thoughts. She shook her head, males, they were no good. "Besides," She continued after a long string of silence. "I'm sure you are getting tired of taking care of me."

"I am" He responded gruffly as she looked at him and then told him doing the right thing as all but pointless to her. What a wretch he thought to himself, hat kind of dog decides doing the right thing is pointless? An insecure one was his mental answer - he didn't know why she was so afraid of showing people anything but a strong front and she certainly hadn't told him during their time together.

Perhaps you can teach her its okay to show weakness, to be vulnerable once in a while...and then instantly he shunned those thoughts. Don't be foolish - you won't be around to do that remember? The male shook his head and stood, purposefully doing it quickly in hopes she would take a step or two back in startlement "And yes I am also growing tired of taking care of you, I am glad you have healed so quickly so that i may leave soon" He told her before motioning towards the plains "Now lets go find a safe place to rest so you don't over do yourself and make me stay longer" He concluded with a veiled gaze.

"Nothing stopping you from leaving right now." She told him as she began to walk away. His little standing up quickly stunt did nothing to startle her, though she was sure that's what he had hoped. "And yeah that's exactly what I want to do, is more damn resting. Haven't I done enough of that already?" Her snippy attitude was certainly coming back into full swing now that she didn't have to worry about wasting her precious energy on snapping at him.

Usiku took the lead as she went in search of this resting place. Perhaps is she did so he would finally leave her and she could focus on something other than the thoughts that plagued her now. It didn't take long for her to find a good spot. A large rock near a tree that provided shade. Leaping up on the rock she sat down, looking out upon the plains. She had no intention of actually resting, no instead she was looking for something to do. Perhaps a gazelle would wander this way that she could hunt.

"As soon as your not limping anymore I will be" He told her as he followed behind her. "Would be a damn waste f my time to have nursed you back to health only to leave to soon and have you die don't you think?" He shot at her back - but of course was only met with silence. Subu wasn't sure if she was ignoring him or hadn't heard him - either way he wasn't going to repeat himself.

He merely walked along in her wake until she found a place to rest - not that she appeared to want to do so. Whatever - she wasn't moving about and that was probably a good as he was going to get. So stubborn, he shook his head slightly at her as she sat on top of the rock and settled in the shade, letting his eyes close as he dozed. He'd hear her if she went off anywhere.
