So I havent been on here in a long time, i am sad because of this lots of you guys gave me great tiops and advice and ideas, lots of which i used and turned out great. Lately ive been doing a couple studies of my own of my fish and others and ive noticed on particular thing that i cannot seem to get any real help on . Now i think its jsut something that will have to let be but im curious to see what others say.
So i have a couple long finned tetras they are the orange red and black ones. They are fairly large for tetras and ive noticed as they grow their fins are getting so long that they have a difficulty staying balanced and their heads float up because their fins weigh them down. Now they are healthy and they eat alot but im jsut curious on this. I find it weird because i have a couple types of fin biters but none of they touch the tetras and i think that the nipping would be benefititial to the tetras but i could be wrong, and one cannot simply make fish bite each other. SO any thoughts on this would be both interesting and help ful.
Thanks a bunch

Sounds to me like yor fish are sick, possibly something with their swimbladder.
Long fins do not weigh down a fish, they may slow them down like in the case of male guppies and bettas, or may actually make them faster, as is the case with commet goldfish, swordtails and many longfinned variants in barbs, such as zebra danios and rosey barbs. It depends on the shap of the tail.

Fin nippers are never a good thing. When a fish's tail is nipped at it causes a wound. This may become infect, most often with a fungus, but also can be a way for parasites to infest the fish and the tank. Finnipping is not functional, but disfunctional.

Not sure what exactly is wrong with the fish though, or how to cure it.

I do agree however i don't think it has much to do with their swim bladders because its not that they cant stay down or up or right side its just weird because their fins are very long almost the same legth as their bodies. I know fin nipping is bad but its just curious because none of the ones who do n**, dont touch these two.
I have no idea how to cure it and i asked around and only got weird looks haha so i guess not many people notice it.
I am thinking of studying more of these fish when i get some more room just to see if this is a trait that runs through the fish r if its just these ones.
Thanks for your insight Irrlich
