Does anyone know what the heartagram is? Its not a pentagram, it is the symbol of the Finnish rockband HIM and it means lovemetal. But our youthpastor thinks its evil and of satan! It's NOT. My question is how am I to deal with this? Just ignore it? My bestfriend tried to explain to him that is isn't and he claims its just a play on the pentagram... (note: I wasn't there that day, it was at sunday school. My parents dont go to church so I don't have a way to get there in the mornings.) What do you guys do when people try to put satanic lables on you? Have you ever been accused of something like this. What do you think of the heartagram? Do you think it is evil? Their songs are all okay, mostly love songs (ex- solitary man, right here in my arms, funeral of hearts.) they only have one 'bad' song, which I don't listen to. Called your sweet six six six, but the lead singer claims its not the beast six six six, I really know. I just don't listen to it. What do you think I should do if they tell me its evil? It really upsets me... ((If mods find anything wrong with this post you can delete it...)) Heartagram: HIM's Website

Also, xion, as you mentioned in another thread.
"The pentacle is a five-sided star with a circle around it. Most people think it's demonic, but they are thinking fo the pentagram, whichis an upside down pentacle. The pentacle used by modern day witches, (Pagan, Wicca)... is really a symbol of God.
The pentacle was a Jewish symbol representing the five books of the Torra. Genesis, Exodus, Leciticus, Numbers, and Duteronomy. It was much later used by early Christians in te first century church as a secret symbol to avoid being found out by the Chatholics, which were hunted then. The five pointe mean the five woundss of christ. Two feet, two hands, one side.
The upside town pentacle, (pentagram) is used to mock God much like the upside down cross. The Pentagram is sometimes featured with a goat's head inside of it called the face of Bophemet."
So just tell your pastor that, (The history of the pentacle) and then maybe he'll see that the heartagram isn't really a bad thing, becasue the pentacle isn't either. That, or you could argue that scince the heartagram is a play on the pentagram, that it it, in a way, mocking the Wiccan religion's symbol. So it's rally a good thing, becasue it shows that you are against Wicca.. (?)

both people above me have pretty much nailed it... also, why is it such a big deal to him? If I were to acuse people of wearing "negative" symbols then I wouldn't wear a cross. The cross has always been a big controversial symbol. Certain churches don't believe that Jesus was crucified on a cross but some sort of tree trunk. Also, some people take it as a symbol of defeat and death and loss, etc. I wear a cross and I see is a physical symbol of my salvation. My salvation does not depend on what I wear but whats inside...
This reminds me of Christians and skulls

Not to mention, you know, that one of the commandments... the first one, includes the phrase "You shall not make for yourself a graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth" Both crosses and neclace heartagrams, and prntagrams, and crucifixes, and ect... all fall under the catagory of "graven."

Its a band symbol, not a riligious one. Not even many fans can agree on what exactly the heartagram means though. I think its what you make of it. Symbols have no true power, but what they symbolize does. The heartagram seems sort of made for the person to decide the meaning of it themselves.

( i love the heartagram! and its only evil if you make it evil)

First of all, I don't get what the problem is with "goth metal" bands, not all of them are satanic and it is so close minded of you to generalize it like that. The pentagram is not satanic, it was originally a pagan symbol standing for Spirit, Air, Earth, Water, and Fire. The pentagram is an upside down pentacle. HIM is a semi-lovely band. I think that HIM sounds more like an emo-ish love band, but that is only my opinion. I, myself, like a few of his songs. Most of his songs sound like they are about love and heart-ache, so I don't really see the problem with them.
Now, to the problem at hand. I think that you should let it go. Personally, I have tried to reason with pastors and priests about certain things, but they are so close-minded. I have learned that people only hear what they want to hear. I had provided evidence to these leaders of religion and they didn't care. They just went on with the same tune, totally ignoring the facts. You should just let it go and keep listening to HIM or whatever you want to listen to. I don't really think that the heart-a-gram has any real meaning, but, instead, was created as a symbol to recognize a band.

people can take things so wrong its not even funny today! i was talking to one of my friends and i told them that i was into H.I.M. and they were like "OMG i never knew you were satanic!" then i had to explain to her that H.I.M. isnt a satanic band and here were all the usual questions (do you know wat H.I.M. stands for!? what about the heartagram?!!!) i still dont think she believes im not satanic or that neither is H.I.M. but that is her problem, not mine.
