Everybody's been there: It's two days before the concert, and you're sick.

Well fear no more! Mizzer has some handy-dandy home remedies to help ease your ailments.

Note: Always consult a doctor if symptoms persist. Home remedies are not a substitute for Over-The-Counter, or perscription medicine.

Uses of Home Remedies:
-Help prevent illness
-delay symptoms
-alleve symptoms

Things to always have on hand:
Echinecea
Vitamin C (natural or pills)
Multi-vitamins
Salt
Reusable ice packs
Heat packs (Note: those buckwheat pillows you can microwave are wonderful. They can also be frozen)
Ginger candies (You can get them at most groceries)
Water (duh)

Get fresh as needed:
Lemon
Mint
Ginger root
Lavender

The Basics--

Combining home-made remedies with pharmeceuticals:
In general, home-made remedies will not affect OTC or perscription medicines. Home-made remedies are not a substitution for pharmeceuticals, and are mainly used to help prevent illness, delay symptoms, and alleve symptoms. If symptoms persist, or worsen, contact your doctor.

Infusions:
This is something like making a tea. You're going to score, bruise, or crush the ingredients, to taste. Bring to a light boil a sauce pan with a mug full of water. Add ingredient, and allow to simmer until the smell of the ingredients is very obvious. Remove from heat, and allow to cool. Most infusions can be drank hot or cold. Anticipate sickness, and prepare in bulk ahead of time. Store in the refrigerator up to 2 weeks.

Ailment--
Some remedies can be combined to accomidate multiple symptoms. Feel free to ask me.

Sore throat:
Most times sore throats are caused by phlegm dripping down the back of your throat.

Remedy(s):
Hot water and honey and/or mint infusion. No sugar. No teas.
Warm salt gargle. (Gargle three times a day)
Hot pack on throat.

That's it for now. Mizzer is sick (Boo) and going to bed.

Feel free to add your own remedies! Always remember that some things will work for some people, and not others. Keep food allergies in mind.

Lemon, and salt are actually bad for your voice in the long run. Its good for a quick fix, bad for long term. Just thought Id mention. Ive also been told that mint isnt good for your voice, but I don't think its too terribbly bad for it either, I dont know if I would have believed the woman if she hadnt a Ph.D in voice... heh..

I've found that drinking milk helps the pain of a sore throat.... the problem is that you can't sing right after drinking it.

Which you probably shouldn't be doing anyway, but whatever. ._.

I remember friday I was sick..

My choir director stopped the class and pulled out a few sheets of paper.

"These are your vocal chords now"
He then ripped them to shreds
"These are your vocal chords if you keep singing on that sore throat"

He has a whole sheet of things for a quick-fix if you get sick.

my voice coach said that if you're sick and your voice is full of gunk (phlegm, if you will), take some spinach and boil it in slightly salted water. Eat the spinach (its' good for you) and then drink the leftover water warm. the salt will clear out the crap in your throat and the iron will help you get better fast.

All these ideas seem pretty cool. I'll have to keep them in mind...

All I know is that if you drink milk or any type of caffeine bofore a concert, you have a problem, milk is to fatty, and caffeine or pop is really bad for your voice. I find if you have a sore throat that extra strong lemon halls work really well.

Well, there's the essentials-

1. Drink lots and lots and lots of fluids
2. Sing light until your concert
3. Always take throat... thingys

But my dad's director has this strange remedy that you take a glass of warm water and add salt and sugar to it. Then you swish it around for a minute or so and spit it out. The last time I tried it, it made me gag. xp
