When she was small, Imo had loved princesses. Princesses were good people who had adventures and many friends. They got lots of dresses and owned horses. And they always always ended up dancing with one true loves who they then went on to have happily ever afters with. So as a young one Imo had begged for two things from that list passionately; either to go riding or to learn how to waltz.

It being much cheaper and easier, for there hadn’t been a stable near where they had been living then, for Sarah Farrago and her family to band together to send Imogen to dance classes. From the fabled waltz she’d gone on to the much more lively swing dance and she mostly grew out of her princess stage (she was still a romantic). By the time she had she’d been great at dancing but Imo’d never actually gone horse riding in the end.

Except now it turned out her new friend Skye loved horse riding and had been riding since she was very little. Crystal being such a very upper-class rich school had quite a lot of girls who also rode, and it didn’t take long for Skye’s Choci to be sent to the local stable at his owner’s request.

So, here Imo was, entering a stable at last in borrowed riding clothes.

Skye was wearing her hunting gear, she generally did when she went riding. She had her posh riding clothes but that was only for eventing and she wasn't about to wear them out when the girl she was going with had never ridden before. Her clothes were tight fitting and emphasized parts of her body rather well. Her hunting clothes had been made just for her and she loved them.

"Right Choci is over here, if you go and grab the tack and take it to the horse you are borrowing I will help you out in a bit. Choci's stuff is in his stable." She spoke in her normal way but the tone was a little nicer. She liked Imo after all.

Skye walked straight over to the dark bay horse. She stroked him before kissing his nose.

"Hey boy, time to go out, now move over let me in!" She spoke softly to the horse and it was a strange thing to see. Skye cared about her horse, one of the few things she did care about. She managed to get in to the stable and at the back of his there was a small cupboard where all his tack was locked away. She wasn't about to let anyone else near it and nor was he going to have any cheap stuff on his back. She got it all out and laid the blanket on his back before putting the saddle on and then eventually his bridle. When he was ready she led him out his stall and tied him up before walking over to Imo.

"Right ready to learn how to saddle up a horse?"

“Alright!”

Imo had gone to get what she assumed was all the tack she needed from one of the holders along the end of the stable. It had a little brass plate engraved ‘Gunshot’ above it and she carried it back to the stall that had a matching little brass plate. She had some idea how it went on; that the saddle went on his back, the stirrups at the side and the bridle ended up on his head. But what order it was supposed to go on and how you adjusted it, she had no clue, so better to wait for Skye.

The steely grey horse inside had been fussed over while she waited, petted as she’d been told horses liked by Skye. Gunshot seemed content enough. As Skye led Choci over, Imogen half turned to flash her friend and her horse one of her smiles.

“Please! And you didn’t say how handsome Choci was…or how big. He’s bigger than Gunshot.”

Skye smiled, obviously proud of her horse.

"Yeah Choci is a big 'un. His mother was a show jumper and father was an event horse, he is my big boy." She petted Choci's neck and gave him another kiss before walking over to Imo.

"Right, start with putting the blanket over his back..." She then went on to show how to saddle up Gunshot who was a really calm horse. Made it all easier. She adjusted the saddle so that it wasn't too tight but tight enough on the horse before removing the head collar and putting the bridle on, showing Imo again where it all did up. She then handed the reins to Imo.

"Right lead him out over to that block over there. Then you need to stand on the block to get on him. Put your hat on first, riding without it generally isn't clever especially when you don't know the horse and it doesn't know you." She smiled as she walked over to Choci and put her own hat on. She didn't need the block to help her get on Choci but she would use it just because it was nicer on him.

"Once you are on we will adjust the stirrups and then I will show you how to hold the reins, then we will go." Skye smiled, rather enjoying teaching Imo all about the tack and how to ride. She would have to take it easy with Imo, find an easy path for them.

Gunshot was likely a school horse because he really was just so laid back and patient. The woman Imogen had seen about taking out one of the loaners had been sure that he’d be a good choice for her, because he was not easy to startle. Not even when you were an energetic and erratic redhead happy to try out horse riding for the first time. She was trying not to be too excitable and she followed Skye’s direction without complaint, but she was as she so often was like a kid at Christmas.

Gunshot, luckily, didn’t so much as toss his head. He was bright enough and alert but not at all spooked. He’d seen it all before.

She got out a band and pulled back her hair into a ponytail rather than her usual half-up half-down. Then she shoved on her helmet and following Skye’s direction again, managed to get up. So so fun.

“This alright?”

Skye smiled as Imo got up and then on the horse. At least the girl had confidence, Skye would give her that. She had seen non-confident riders before and they weren't good.

"Right thats it now sit up straight once your on, put your feet in the stirrups and I will adjust them for you." She walked over and stroked the horse gently before leading him away from the block so she could get to the stirrups and tighten them so Imo's legs were at the right height.

"That should do you." Skye smiled and walked back over to Choci, taking him to the block and quickly and easily settling herself in the saddle. She then led him over so she was next to Imo.

"Right you hold the two reins like this." She showed her how they went between fingers. She then showed how it was easier to pull the horse and then explained that you don't pull hard, it will hurt the poor thing.

"You control him with your knees and thighs, push against his side and when you want him to move kick him gently with your heels. Like this.." She then showed Imo getting Choci to move on. "Once you have him moving you should be fine, he will probably just follow Choci and we will take a route he probably already knows." Skye smiled before leading her horse out the stable and then round in a circle. She could feel that he wanted to run, he always did but she held him tightly and waited for Imo.

It was surprisingly easy to ride a horse, Imo thought, as she eagerly listened to her companion and (as always so far in their friendship) did as Skye told her. Okay so she wasn't ready to go jumping over fences but just getting on and walking wasn't so hard. She wasn't sure she was doing the controlling with her knees and thighs quite right, perhaps too lightly, but if so Gunshot seemed to know what she wanted anyway and she'd learn in time so she didn't worry.

It didn't take long for the pair to join Skye and Choci outside.

"You said you'd been riding and hunting for ages but I was wondering, what is it you love about it? Is it being outside, the horses, or...?" She asked, obviously curious not just politely asking. When her eyes weren't on Gunshot and what was going on with him, she was looking intently at the other redhead.

Skye sat proudly upon Chocci's back. Her horse was one of her prize possessions and she adored showing him off. It helped when they stood next to Imo and Gunshot as Chocci was obviously a better bred horse and it made Skye smile.

"Bits of both really. Riding is just one of those things, I don't know how to explain why I enjoy it so much." She thought about it and shrugged before giving Chocci a small kick, time to get moving.

"I like hunting for the thrill, the same with cross country. Though of course with any of the eventing there is the pressure you don't have with hunting. The chase, the adrenaline. I guess it is just one of those things that you love or hate and I love it." Skye smiled as she spoke though she missed hunting. Of course she was part of the equestrian team here and enjoyed it but hunting, there was just something special about it.

"How's the horse?" She looked over at Imo, if she seemed to get on okay then Skye would try them going a little faster. There was nothing better then running full speed on the back of a horse.

"Oh I know what it's like to enjoy the adrenaline, the thrill, of something. Though I get mine from dancing, which I daresay is quite different." She grinned. Her hunting was for that higher kick, that neater backflip, to pull off that tricky aerial step or one really difficult move she'd yet to learn. Very different from hunting on horseback. But the epinephrine rush was probably similar, same delicious chemical reaction, even if the activities themselves weren't alike.

"He's fine. He's probably done this a thousand times." Imo turned her attention back to the horse who indeed, had done this more than a thousand times. The school horse was well used to having less experienced riders and knew what was expected of him well. Everyday Gunshot was ridden on one of these trails after all.

Dance? Skye couldn't recall Imo mentioning anything about dance before but that didn't mean anything really, she could have mentioned something.

"What type of dance do you do? I don't think you have said?" Skye looked curiously at Imo and wondered. Skye had been taught the waltz and a couple of other ballroom dances when she was little. Apparently it was expected of her to be able to dance in a ball room not that anyone really had dances anymore but her mother had insisted.

"If he feels good underneath you, we could always try going a little faster? You will need to move with him when we trot though it makes it easier for him to move." She would explain more if Imo was up for it. Skye was pretty certain that the school's horse would be able to keep a steady pace without Imo falling off. Skye had to hold Choci pretty tight when trotting, the horse liked to go faster and so holding him in was always a fun thing to do.

"I started out doing ballroom, but I'm a jitterbug at heart." Imo laughed, happy to claim the lable, then explained what that was. Her passion for it was quite obvious in her voice and expression. She lit up. "I swing dance, and do so whenever I can. My favourite is called the Lindy Hop...it's full of backflips and twists and really throwing yourselves around. I love it."

Imo did as she'd been told earlier and coaxed Gunshot to go faster. The school horse took a moment as if he were considering it - or perhaps he felt too lazy? He seemed more of an ambler than a runner, which was probably why he was loan horse. Gunshot was slow n' steady seeming. Safe as sitting in an armchair, up on his broad back. If Imo came out riding with Skye or other friends who rode often and got good enough, she'd eventually probably have to borrow a less sedate horse.

As she started getting used to the trotting, getting the hang of it roughly quite quickly, she called over; "I'm surprised I've never mentioned dance before! It's such a part of my life."

Skye was slightly amused at the way Imo went on about dance. She liked the girl they got on.

"Maybe you could teach me some of those dances at some point." Skye would be more then happy to learn and why not have Imo teach her? Would make things more interesting yes? Skye smiled at the thought of dancing with Imo, she liked Imo, she liked her a lot and it was an odd thing to like a girl as much as Skye liked Imo right now.

Skye watched as Imo rode, she seemed like something of a natural but then it was obvious that the horse was a safe horse. Skye couldn't help but wonder if anything would freak out that horse.

"I am surprised to. You really will have to teach me sometime!"

"And I'd love to take you swingin' somtime! There's a really good club in town we could go to. Some people come into Destiny just to visit it because the music is great and the regulars are so friendly, like from the next city come over where I used to live." The girl beamed over at her friend, because so few people wanted to come try dancing, too shy maybe or too busy. It'd be wonderful to show Skye the dancing she loved. Just as she thought it was wonderful to try horseriding when it meant a lot to Skye or going to see that antique map thing with Aggie or - sharing what you loved with people you loved, y'know?

Thinking of horseriding things were getting a bit more bumpy.

"Is this right?" Imo asked, because while she'd settled into the rhythm of trotting it was getting less smooth up on Gunshot's back. Maybe he'd sped up or slowed down just a tad and she needed a minute to fall back in rhythm? Maybe she needed to sit a little differently or move her weight? She was just trying to copy Skye and do as she'd been told really.

"Awesome that sounds great!" Skye smiled liking the idea of dancing. "Just let me know when you are next going and I shall tag along!" After all what was the harm in dancing? It could be a good night out and Skye really could do with some good nights out.

As Imo mentioned about the horse Skye smiled. They had managed to move in to a canter without Skye even realising. It wasn't unusual for her to just move in to the rhythm naturally but obviously for Imo it was a little different.

"It's okay, we have moved in to a canter. Try moving forward and back instead of up and down, it follows the rhythm a little better." Okay she knew that sounded bad but hopefully because of how she was doing it, Imo would catch on soon enough.

"Sure!" Imo already knew when she was next going dancing, but Skye'd have to come along the next one. It was her first time seeing her old dance partner since she 'died', so she wasn't sure it'd be the best time to introduce her friend to swing. So she was sort of fibbing...and Imo pretended to be focusing on getting the hang of this cantering thing so her soft frown wouldn't give her little white lie away. She knew she was easy to read as an open book.

"So, we'll follow this trail a while more before heading back right? This is fun, I don't want tos top yet." She asked after a while, enjoying the ride.

((Wanna tie it up with them cantering off into a fade out, or got any ideas? =) ))
