Well I've sort of been playing this along as I've been working on finsihing Diamond/Pearl/Platinum but now I'm trying to shift my focus squarely on finishing up Fire Red.
Unfortunately, it's been so long since I played the orignal Red/Blue games, that I don't remember what order things should go in. So tis' been kind of fun figuring things out all over again, but kind of annoying, too. I've backtracked to Saffron City several times thinking "Okay, now it's time to go after Team Rocket" only to realize when I got there "Oops, not yet!" I think the last time I saved, I had just gotten my badge from Fuschia City and saved at the door to the Silph Corp. Time to dive back in!

my main beef with fire red, is that it wont let you catch staryu wild
instead you get shellder, while a cool pokemon as a cloyster, Starmie has a better uses, namely:
Starmie Modest Thunderbolt Ice Beam Psychic Water Pulse/Surf ----using this starmie, at lv 70, i aced the E4 only having to use one elixir cloyster cant hold a candle to that
thats my main beef with it,
but yep both were very fun, just wait till you hit the sevii

I didn't know you couldn't catch Staryu!!! That sucks! gonk
I popped back on to share this oddness:
I was right that I was finally able to get into Silph Co. to take on Team Rocket. But when I got to 5F, there was the guy there that looked different from the scientists and Rocketeers. So when I approached him he goes, "What's a kid doing here?" And when we started to battle, it turned out that he was a JUGGLER.
Of course, my first reaction was "What's a JUGGLER doing here?" But apparently he works for Team Rocket, since he told me afterwards that I still had a long way to go to reach his Boss. It just made me laugh because it seemed so random! blaugh

Ah, well, at least you can catch it there and trade it, I guess.
Yeah, I made it through the Silph Co. and through the Seafoam Islands, and there on the bottom floor was Articuno...which I had totally forgotten about. I saved before I approached, of course, but I figured "Hey, I can probably catch it, even if its a little stronger."
As it turned out, I could NOT. gonk It totally kicked my butt by using Mist to shield against stat reduction and raising its speed with Agility and take aim with Mind Reader. So pretty much all it had to do was use Ice Beam every other turn and my pokemon were easy pickings. So now I'm back outside Fuschia City, training up my Snorlax (whose Thick Fat will cut down on the Ice Damage and Yawn can put Articuno to sleep) to be able to go up against it. It's slow going, but I needed to raise my levels a bit anyway before I headed to the next gym.

Just another quick update on my progress. I leveled up a bit, and I managed to catch Articuno after a few more tries. Snorlax's Thick Fat and Yawn helped a LOT. Then I breezed through the next gym and the pokemon mansion, and ran into Bill, who took me to islands One, Two, and Three (very original names, by the way xd ).
This was the first new content I ran into, since most of the rest of the game is pretty much exactly as I remembered it from Red and Blue. It was interesting stuff, and you can tell it wasn't from the original game because the paths were a little more complex and there was a whole forest full of berries.
I was surprised to find Moltres here, though, but I can't remember where it was located in the original game. I seem to recall that one of the legendary birds was in a cave or little cove that you could only reach by surfing from one of the ports, but I don't really remember if that's accurate. I want to think there was a lighthouse there or something? sweatdrop Anway, having Articuno and Moltres, I started hunting for that port on my map and by process of elimination, I found the Power Plant which contained Zapdos.
So I got back on route, narrowly defeated Giovanni for the Earth Badge and then narrowly defeated my rival on the wait to Victory Road. But I haven't gotten any further than that...I tried to play last night and I fell asleep almost immediately. sweatdrop I guess I'm getting old!! crying

In classic Red Version, Moltres would be in the Cinnibar building iirc. Also, for Zapdos, he'll be in the Power Plant at the very end of the area. I can't seem to remember if it was there in classic Red/Blue though.
xD I think I'm getting old too. I tried to play the other night, and sweep the E4 for some level ups but I never made it past the 3rd. I woke up and my DS was dead. Luckily I saved it beforehand.

Just an update to say that I did finally finish Fire Red, including the islands (which were kind of cool) and catching Mewtwo. I managed to do it without using my Master Ball, because I was hoping to catch at least one of the three Johto Legends. But from what I've read online, it's REALLY difficult...Only one of them shows, depending on your starter pokemon, and even then, it's incredibly rare to encounter it. Apparently, the only thing you need to trigger it's roaming is to get the upgraded Pokedex. Since then, I've spent over 15 hours roaming the grasses and have yet to encounter it. And considering I was mostly playing the game just to round out my Diamond/Pearl/Platinum games, I'm starting to wonder if it's worth my time to keep going with it. confused
So how about it? Has anyone managed to catch any of the three Johto roamers in Fire Red or Leaf Green?
