Kivuli had decided to take a trip away from the pride to scout the rogue territories. This one something he did very rarely given his Noble background within the pride. But every now and then he just felt the need to let his paws take him where they wanted to go. Of course he knew a small part of him did it take a break from listening to Mwitu's nagging. He loved her dearly but she could push the limits of his patience, which said a lot as he was always a very patient and understanding lion.
Now with Mwitu on his mind he began to turn around. No use in being gone too long, or else he would never hear the end of it. And likely she would refuse to let him out of her sight for the rest of his life. A worthy punishment he thought. For how could being forced to stay at the side of the one you love be any type of punishment at all. With a smile on his maw he walked back towards the direction of the pride lands, though he wouldn't get back until tonight at this pace.

Subu gamboled along without much of a care at the moment - it had turned out to be a pretty darn good day as far as he could see it. He was fed, it wasn't to hot and a good breeze was floating along carrying with it the scents of the land and a cooling kiss. Speaking of scents...Subu paused suddenly as a slight shift in the breeze brought with it the scent of lion.
Lions could sometimes be dangerous - and sometimes not, they were a moody species as a whole and it was best to be cautious when dealing with them. At least in his experience, letting his gaze roam over the land he spotted the hint of movement that would be the lion. A large tri-colored male. Lovely...males were generally lazy and less prone to outright temperamental fits, or maybe he was just biased being a male himself. Subu sat back on his haunches to let the male pass - there wasn't any point in hiding now, the Lion had almost certainly seen him already.

Just because he was a born Noble didn't mean that Kivuli lacked the basic instincts of survival. His ears and eyes were always scanning the area listening and looking for any hints of those who were around. Scents drifted into his nose as he went telling him who had been here and who was currently around. This time however it wasn't his sense of smell that told him of the Wild Dog nearby but his ears.
The ever faint sound of crunching grass was what had caught his attention. Swiveling his head Kivuli caught sight of the Dog as it sat down, allowing his to pass without conflict. Smart move, he thought as he padded by the male dog, giving him a slight nod as he did so. The Dog was well under his own rank but even so he did deserve some recognition for his actions. After passing the dog Kivuli began to head off again, but then he decided to stop and talk. After all the dog did have purple on his hide, which was important to his pride. Coming to a stop he turned and faced the dog again, his body held high as an indication of the rank he held. "Good day to you." He said, taking a few steps towards the dog.

Subu held his breath for a few moments as the lion looked at him. But a few seconds later and it seemed like there wasn't going to be any sort of conflict between them, or at least the Lion didn't seem anxious to start anything. Which was good - the lion was far larger then he was. As the beast walked on by Subu stood up and lifted a paw to start back on his way...when his movements were waylaid by the Lion who sudden;y turned about.
Maybe his first impressions had been wrong and he wanted to start something after all - It didn't seem smart to stand about and duke it out with a lion so Subu tensed to run should it be necessary and turned his head towards the Lion. What by the sun did the fellow want? Just to talk it seemed...and Subu relaxed just a tad. Talking..nothing wrong with talking. "And to you as well" Subu responded with a glance towards the sky as thought to say it was indeed a nice day.

The slight tensing of the dogs body wasn't missed by Kivuli. He had seen in before, the reaction that often lead to either the animal running away or fighting for it's like. Kivuli had no intentions of hurting the other male, sure he was a wild dog and as such fell well below him in the pecking order, but it couldn't hurt to strike up a conversation with him. Sitting back on his haunches Kivuli looked at the dog with a bit of a smile on his maw.
"My name is Kuvunjwa Kivuli." He introduced himself with his head held high, as indication of a high rank. "And who might you be?" He took a moment to study the dog. The light purple and silver seemed to compliment each other well. A shame that such a hide was on a wild dog but Kivuli wouldn't hold that against the creature. Although had the other male been a lion he would likely be Kivuli's equal.

When the lion sat don Subu lowered himself back to the ground as well. Sure he probably could have outrun the large beast - but why bother when it was clear no harm was meant? Subu didn't have anything in particular against lions - he'd had just as many run ins with bad ones as good ones, but he was aware of the Lions weight advantage in a fight - and their wicked claws.
But it didn't look like he would have to worry about any of that here and so Subu put such things out of his mind and gave the lion a quick once over. He was a boldly colored beast, his purple reminded him of a female wild dog he'd met a few days before. "I'm called Asubuhi Mwanga" He told the lion with a slight bob of his head "But most call me simply Subu" He continued with a slight smile on his face. " I hope I haven't trespassed on any prideal lands, I saw no markers"

"Subu," he repeated the name, more out of acknowledgment than anything else. "no you have not crossed any pride boundaries." He told the smaller wild dog. "I am quite a distance from the lands of my pride." And, he thought, if he doesn't get home soon Maua is going to kill me. But he couldn't just get up and walk away from the conversation now could he. Maua would be all over him for that, not only speaking with a commoner but doing so when he should be standing by her side in the pride.
"I am looking for lions, and any species, for that matter that may benefit the pride. " He wouldn't tell his male that in his pride Wild dogs were the bottom barrel in ranks, well at least not unless he asked. No reason in ruining the conversation so quickly.

Ah a scouting mission - well that certainly explained why he was willing to be so friendly, Subu thought to himself. Oh come now..don't be so jaded was the next thought that crossed his mind - perhaps he is just a friendly soul, Subu did have to admit the beast didn't seem particularly ill tempered, but of course they had only just met - it was hard to tell. "Well thats good to know" He answered "Would hate to go about ruffling anyones fur by accident" He continued with a slight chuckle. Subu had no intentions of joining one of those mixed prides he'd heard of - where lion and dog supposedly lived together in peace. As far as he could tell that generally meant the lions ruled everything and the rest were chopped liver. No thanks.
Of course he wouldn't tell the Lion that right off the bat - that would be rude and Subu wasn't anxious to make the Lion angry. "Ah looking for talent then...anything in particular..or just hoping to run into something on the fly?"

Kivuli let out a small chuckle as well. Now he knew he had made the right choice to stop and talk to this commoner. He had a good sense of humor, and that could be important. "Nope, no ruffling fur this time. Although out here you never know." While Kivuli didn't travel to the rogue lands often he knew how hard life was out here. Many of the animals would kill you just so there is less competition for hunting and space.
"Nothing in particular this time around." He told the dog after a few moments pause. In fact he hadn't truly come out here to look for new pride members. True if he came across an interesting enough beast he might see if they were interested, but no this time was strictly just taking a breather from the hectic life of a Noble. "More of the chance run in type of scouting."

It sounded to Subu like this lion was just making excuses for a chance to roam on his own. If Subu was a meddling beast he might try to encourage this behavior with crazy stories of life in he rogue lands. Of course said stories would be completely made up, life in the rogue lands could be exciting...but in entirely the wrong type of way. Mostly is was just hard and frustrating. "True enough" He agreed with a slight nod of his head. You really didn't know what might happen from day to day out here.
"I'm guessing since your still alone, you haven't had any said encounters" Subu said with a slight smile. "To be honest this seems like a fairly quiet stretch of land at the moment, not surprising you haven't had any luck" He continued with a brief look around - to be honest this lion was the first beast he'd had any sort of encounter with in the lat few days.

"Indeed I have run into very few creatures out here. It does seem to be a less populated area of the rogue lands." Kivuli said in agreement. As far as he could tell the dog hadn't seen through his lie about his reason for being out here. Or at least he didn't point it out anyways. Though talking with this wild dog would give him something to work with in the end.
"Tell me Subu, you know these lands pretty well right?" He asked the other male even though there was no doubt in his mind that the dog did indeed know this area well. "Should one wish to find creatures to bring back to a pride, where is the best place to look?" Nothing like getting information he could use in the future from a friendly conversation, that's what a smart scout did anyways, take advantage of every thing you came across.

Subu thought for a moment, curling his tail around his ront paw's as he did so. He had been running these lands off and on for a few years now - he supposed that would qualify him as knowing the area. tipping his head slightly Subu considered his answer for a few moments before nodding his head towards the south. "the south is good...there's a fairly large watering hole in that direction, many animals gather to drink or hunt as it pleases them" He told the male.
"Though the east is decent as well, lots of shade groves on hot days" He added almost as an afterthought before turning back to the waiting lion. "I take it you haven't been here long?" He asked, though he was already fairly sure of the answer - if the Lion had been well he would know the area wouldn't he?

Kivuli nodded his head as the dog spoke, ah the east and south then. He filed that information away to use later, whether in another trip he made out her or to provide to a scout sent out on a recruiting mission. He also made she to remember the important features of each area, large watering hole to the south and shade in the east. All important things to know when traveling through unknown lands.
"I see," he began after a few moments pause. Well it was too late to go looking now, after all he needed to get going soon or Maua would have his head. He gave a shake of his head. "No I haven't been here long, usually the scouts do the searching out here." He almost added a comment about how one of his station rarely did such things unless the king commanded it. "But I appreciate the information you have provided to me." His voice was sincere, gathering information in lands not often traveled wasn't always easy, so he was glad to have run into this dog today.

Subu nodded slightly, it sounded like the lion had lived in the area for a while - but was not taken with wandering about the lands on a regular basis. That was not atypical Subu knew - of lions who enjoyed high positions in some prides. Such menial tasks like scouting for new talent was generally left to those of lower rank. These so called scouts must be such lower ranking members. "Of course, you are welcome" He told the lion in reference to giving him the information. "But it looked as thought you were headed somewhere when we met, I don't wish to keep you if you need to leave" He told him after a few moments pause.

"Indeed I was on my way back to my mate." He told the dog, and while he was enjoying their conversation he knew he really mustn't doddle much longer. His eyes moved to the sky for a moment looking at the suns position, ah yes he was running late. His got to his feet and stretched out his muscles.
"I better get going before she wonders where I am. You know how females can be." He said with a slight smile on his maw. "Well Subu it was a pleasure meeting you. Perhaps we will run into each other again in the future." He turned to begin his journey back home. "Take care of yourself." He said and with that began padding off towards home, hoping that Maua wouldn't be too mad at him for being late and the reason behind it.
