(MAP)
The City is a town located in a valley at the base of a mountain range. The Valley itself spans a semi-circle with a 40-50 mile radius around the City to the north, east and south, while the mountainside is only half a mile west of the City. Centipedes have never penetrated into the Valley so there have never been any civilian casualties, mostly due to the efforts of the Wolfriders.
The City is surrounded on all sides by 20-meter high stone walls, built early in the year after the first centipede attack. The nearly 2-meter thick walls can defend against a direct assault by the centipedes, and are far too high for the predators to climb over. The City is built at the foot of a small mountainous range, the mountain side acting as a natural wall and the rocky base deep beneath the dirt ground prevents centipedes from burrowing under. Close by, a small freshwater lake that runs from the mountain river acts as the main water source for The City.
Crop and livestock are raised in the fields outside of The City walls, also where farmers/ranchers live and work, but the perimeter of the Valley is enclosed by a smaller 10-meter high and 1-meter thick stone wall all around. Forts are set up at strategic positions along this perimeter, also the only exits out of the Valley, where the Wolfriders reside and act as interception before any centipedes can reach the edge of the Valley. Most residents stay within The City walls, but nobody ever leaves the safety of the Valley as Wolfriders won't allow anyone out anyways.
The buildings within The City are mostly residential homes, but there is an area in the middle with several public buildings called the City Hall. The City Hall includes an educational center for young children to learn reading and writing skills, as well as mathematics and history. The offices of The City Council, an elected governing body that sets rules and plans improvements for The City, are also located at the City Hall. But Wolfriders are an exception to the laws set by the Council, though the two bodies often collaborate for the greater safety of the Valley's population. The City was largely undamaged by the plague that swept the Forts, and those who are infected by the plague are taken to rough Hospitals set up outside the City where they are cared for until death. It was in these hospitals that the first vaccine was created as a defense against the plague, but no cure has been found.
