“ – which is how long you’ll have to complete this. Each of you have been given a project outline on a different coloured piece of paper. For this assignment you will be working in groups of twos or threes at random, with the other people who were given the same colour paper, so that…do not trade your papers!” The teacher was a substitute until their usual science teacher got back but despite being a substitute (or perhaps because she was one) she was especially sharp eyed. Miss Appleby liked to think she was strict but fair. She had let them work sitting as they pleased rather than checking the seating plan, let people scribble notes in whatever book they pleased, let them go ten minutes early on Friday. Now however she wanted random groups and by Shakespeare she’d get them!

“As I was saying, so that you have a chance to work with new people who may have a different way of seeing things. It is always worthwhile to gather new interpretations and points of view. Now, please switch seats so you’re with your group or partner.”

Imogen broke off doodling in the margins of her small notebook, which she kept with her class stuff just for doodling. If you must know, she’d written Gemini in elaborate script with a large question mark. Not quite her usual love hearts but the tartan wearing senshi was on her mind quite a bit these days, more than Imo'd ever admit. Far more than Sailor Badass was at any rate. Even if she couldn't remember exactly what the girl looked like, you don't forget the person who was there when you were attacked by your first monster. Destiny City had gotten so so weird while she'd been at Barren Pines and reading the news from the past year had not helped her much. Senshi so far didn't seem like evil terrorists and she'd seen actual real monsters, not people attacking while in costume...gave her quite a bit to think about. Especially now Fallon (dear Fallon she'd found again!) had said that she'd run into a senshi called Virgo. Good thing she'd brought that Zodiac sign book. Maybe she should tell Skye?

She looked around, letting thoughts of Senshi go. She was a bit lost because she’d been doodling, not taking notes on deadlines as she supposed Miss Appleby thought she’d been doing. But Imo quickly gathered her stuff anyway and stood up like everyone else was doing. She watched the other girls around her a bit bewildered for a second before she realised the bits of paper were what governed where people were moving to.

“Erm…anyone have green?”

Abeline was writing in her book, copying down notes furiously. Although, not the notes that had been written on the board, no, that would involve studying. Abeline was writing out some notes about her only serious commitment. Holding the Line. Which, was, the top of her ruled paper. She was listing off bits and pieces, drawing doodles of symbols and vague memories from that-that-USELESS man that she refused to believe that she once was- no WAY. And some of his thoughts- he was... he was such a horn-dog!

"Ahem, Miss Froust, come here and collect your paper, please." The teacher called out, causing Abe's head to snap up with alarm. She was the only one still sitting, quickly scuttling into the line she soon had a piece of paper. It was green. Abe glanced at the teacher with a quizzical expression. "Find your partner--- the one with the matching paper."

Froust took a few steps away, her eyes scanning for green... green.... “Erm…anyone have green?” someone asked. Froust turned, her eyes settling on Imogen and she held up her paper.

Imogen... they had met before, in Barren Pines, at breakfast. But moreso, something seemed... familiar about her. Abeline walked to the other girl, tilting her heaad to one side. Something she just couldn't put her finger on...

“I think your desk had more room, so, want to move back there?” The way she tilted her head just a little to the side when she raised her hand in greeting was a habit she’d had all her life. And her last one.

“Hey Abeline.” Imogen gave the girl a smile as always. She’d been more than happy to see the other girl’s name on the survivors list she’d managed to get her mitts on at hospital, and to spot the bluenette at Crystal in her English class. But unlike Aggie and Fallon, the redhead hadn’t hugged her and fussed when they'd first met again. Abe had never seemed the type who’d appreciate that sort of thing. Instead, Imo had reverted back to her Barren Pines game plan when it came to Abeline Froust.

Be pleasant to her, let Abe call the shots on if and when they spoke, and doggedly wait to see if they became friends. Imogen had always hoped they would. Considering she’d never found Abe particularly approachable, she’d always kind of liked her anyway.

There it was- again! that niggling, urging something familiar about Imogen that tickled at Abe's brain like a small child tugging on her shirt. Only this small child was more like a promiscuous man who had slept with anything that couldn't run fast enough to get away... and it was like he was saying something... something embarrassing.

"I love the way you tilt your head." Abeline told Imogen in a very 'matter-of-fact' tone. Like she was simply stating what everyone in the universe knew.

And then heat and surprise ran right up her face because she'd just said that. Out loud. Abeline turned, looking at her desk, she gave a small nod to the earlier comment and moved back to her desk, quickly closing her book and the important notes therein.

Her blush dying down, Abeline cursed those stupid flash-back moments. She had enough running through her small head as it was! Why the hell did she love the way that Imogen titled her head exactly? What the hell!?! Abeline barely knew Imogen. Imogen was.... so familiar though.... really... damnit, this was driving her insane! Why was she familiar, and why did Abeline feel the urge to blurt out embarrassing things. Abe was not a blurter, she blurted nothing! Except apparently she found Imogen's little habbits cute.

Embarrassment leading to annoyance that her memories were playing havock with her, she gave Imogen a little bit of an annoyed glance. Which was more 'why are you in my head' than 'i hate you' but with Abe it was hard to tell; it could have also been a 'I want you' glance. Especially after that earlier comment.

She motioned for Imogen to take a seat before plunking herself down.

"Oh, thankyou?" Okay, that was possibly the most random comment - compliment? - she'd ever received in her life, especially since that little habit of tilting her head was completely involuntary. It was just something Imogen did without meaning to and it took her a moment the figure out what Abeline was talking about.

"I like your new ribbons." Imo complimented back with a smile, referring to how Abe had traded in Barren Pine's tartan for Crystal blue. They looked nicer with her hair in the redhead's opinion. The smile lost a little of its brightness when Abe seemed to be glaring at her, but, she had faith in perseverance. If she kept being pleasant surely, eventually...

As she slid into the spare seat, she dumped down her notebook then went ferreting about in her bag for a pen. The book flopped open to the last page. The words Gemini? and zodiac s. - gemini, virgo were rather obvious, the first doodled elaborately in the margin and the other written in a coloured gelpen alongside the black biro she usually wrote with. Quite innocent enough doodles.

Usually.

Abeline's frown melted into a small smile. She touched her new ribbon and fumbled with the soft silk wrapped in her hair. Of course it looked good, it was in her hair. Still, being paid a compliment wasn't very often for Abe so she gave Imogen a rare, small smile and sat down. Her eyes grazed over Imogen's open notebook and her eyebrows went up.

Gemini, Virgo??!?!! What the hell? She knows about Zodiacs? Ohmigod, is Imogen one of the senshi? But no, they'd all met in person in Denny's and Imogen hadn't been amongst those faces; besides the fact that Abeline's notes were far more detailed than a few partial questions...so.... so.... Abeline's eyes narrowed; so now she was peering at Imogen. Was Imogen the sort of person to conduct cruel and brutal experiments to create a youma??? Holy s**t, maybe she was a negaverse spy, trying to seduce Abeline to learn the secrets of the Zodiacs! No WAY!

Her mind raced for a minute and then, she realized the far more likely truth; all the survivors had seen the Zodiacs that day they'd broken the barrier; perhaps Imogen was just remembering a little of what happened. Or had run into a Zodiac on the outside, as Abeline had run into Azzo and Melody--- all this played out quite mellowly on her features; mild interest, a small pursing of her lips and then another small smile.

"So what are we doing in our groups?" Abe looked up, realizing that Appleby was writing on the board. She opened her own notebook up, the page flipping past 'HOLD THE LINE- Aries training.' and then the word 'CHRONOS' in big, circled a few times and with a little brain tree sprouting 'bubble-wrap' and 'personal guards?' Because Abe had really smooth thoughts.

She hurriedly turned the page again and pretended not to be trying to look at Imogen from under her lashes; which meant that her head turned slightly askew and she resembled an owl for a few moments. Well, Imogen wasn't the only one who was trying to sort senshi-related things out.

Imogen to be honest was too busy trying to get a measure of Abeline to see any of the others doodles. Only the word Aries might have caught her eye anyway, for she wasn't expecting anyone besides perhaps Fallon who'd seen Virgo to be writing thoughts on the newest group of Senshi on the block. Even though fellow Barren Pine's survivors, like Abe, seemed to see Senshi a lot.

Because Abeline was smiling at her. And looking at her from under her eyelashes. It was kind of weird since she didn't remember Abe ever paying her much attention before. Did she have something on her face?

While she turned to a fresh page to scribble down the notes from the board on what was expected of them all rather than the group specific instructions, she glanced at their green sheets.

"We got Shakespeare sonnet number...141? I sort of know this one. It was in that old film, the one with Heath Ledger in it when he was young. 10 Things I Hate About You. My friend likes it and it is explained in the film a bit so we have it easy if we rent the film to give us a starting point." She flashed Abe grin, inviting her to join the conspiracy - watch the film, get a good mark!

Appleby would have DIED to know Imogen's knowledge of the sonnet came from chick flick. She really would have.
PostPosted: Thu Jan 21, 2010 8:09 pm

Abeline nodded sagely, glancing at the board and noting down the bare minimum that she had to write to remember all the crap the teacher was scrawling up there.

"I have trouble understanding the words from Shakespeare's writing..." Abeline confessed her eyes darting back to her book before she rested her pen. "But if there is a movie, that should be easy enough to follow... right? And it has Heath Ledger in it...." she paused her brain wracking for who on earth that person was. Abeline didn't get to watch much TV or movies or DVD's. When she wasn't rehersing for plays, training, or studying, she was sleeping.

"I have a DVD player at my parents house. You will come over and we will watch the film together." There was no arguement in her voice. This was fact. Of course Imogen wouldn't object to this, no way she'd say 'I'm sorry I can't do it tonight' or 'why don't we go to my house instead' or something like that, because Abeline had decreed it so. And Abeline's decree's always stuck. Always.

But then, thinking about the assignment made Abe a little depressed, she was terrible with this sort of thing. The whole 'understanding complex prose' and 'reflecting and explaining to others' and the whole... partner thing. Abe's expression darkened to one of her unreadable masks. They would probably fail, because Abeline wasn't very book-smart. No doubt. But she wouldn't let that stop her from giving Imogen hope; Abe would try her very best, right through.

And then Miss Froust was treated to a flash of a memory, of wanting to hold and protect that pretty little flower; of saying something and watching her face light up with laughter.... "There's nothing more excruciating than love." Her finger grazed along the white burn-mark against her ring-finger. The one that all Zodiacs had.

And then Abe frowned because she'd said that out loud too. Why the hell did Imogen make her blurt this stuff out!?!? Abeline shook her head. Well that seemed to be something of what the sonnet was about, so maybe Imogen wouldn't think that Abeline was directing at her. Because Froust certainly wasn't.

No sirree.

"True, though I always thought that it was worth it." She countered, though she cast a sideways glance at the other girl as she wrote. Admittedly they'd never spent too much time together at Barren Pines - Abe had often been around Lucas and not to speak ill of the dead but Imo hadn't liked him - but something seemed weird here. Like Abe was preoccupied with something.

"Do you like popcorn?" If they were having a movie night, that was the first thing that popped into her mind. She'd always been very flexible when it came to plans after all and hey, she had wanted to know Abe better after all.
PostPosted: Fri Jan 22, 2010 6:47 pm

Abeline's mouth opened with her desire to respond 'what kind of creature in this universe doesn't like popcorn' but then it occurred to her that she should be dieting. And then it occurred that she'd said '******** you' to the diet. Abeline struggled with her own mental decision of whether or not to have popcorn. because of all the choices in her life; this was by far the HARDEST.

"Yes." She answered after a pause that might have been long enough to drop a few pins into. After all, one couldn't answer such an important question without thinking over it, deeply.

Appleby was almost done directing the class, the teacher's eyes straying to the clock that would announce the end of the lesson for the day, warily. Soon the teens would be free, free to run and play in the afternoon and destroy something that wasn't school property.

"Well, when do you want me to come over? 'Cos I'll grab us some snacks while I'm getting the DVD. The library probably has a copy for the film students." While Abe was hesitant, Imo was quick with her side of the conversation. She'd taken the bluenette's offer - order? - to watch the DVD at her house and was running with it. This could be that chance to get to know the other girl a bit better and besides, the movie did help explain the poem. It was also padded out generously either side with a teen romance that only featured one attractive (and sadly pissed off and aggressive) female character but hey, sacrifices had to be made in the quest for knowledge and understanding!

"You'll have to draw me a map or write me some directions if we're meeting up later." She added as the bell rang and people started to pack away.
PostPosted: Fri Feb 12, 2010 8:22 pm

Abeline nodded at this and wrote down her address, she usually got dropped at the gate by her mother, but she knew it was only a few blocks away, and that walking to her house was possible. She drew a rough map and some directions that should work.

"Oh.. and my mobile number." In case Imogen got lost. Because of course, Abe's directions were flawless....

They weren't the only partners needing to swap details, but Abeline was the slowest to write it out. When she was done, the two of them were alone in the room. Even Appleby had fled.

"Thanks..and um, when should I come over?" She asked, tucking the note directions away into her bag and leaning against a desk nochalently. More relaxed around Abe than before now their plans were set.

"Whenever is good for you is fine by me. I'll adapt around it." I'll adapt around it, said an older Imogen with curling hair down to her waist, the length of it pulling it out of it's current natural ringlets. She lent against a wall, not a desk...another odd old memory that fell in sinc with girl in front of Abe. Got to be quite disconcerting for the poor girl and Imo had no idea how like her past self she could be. After all, she had no idea she had had a past life.
PostPosted: Mon Feb 15, 2010 5:38 am

And there was that niggly sensation. This sudden sharp pain in her heart. Why the hell was she thinking things like 'look but don't touch her...' and... well, that was just it; Abeline was confused. She was very confused and Imogen was just a lot like someone that she'd been pining over, wishing for from afar. Like this was a familiar stab in her heart. Only Abe didn't pine and drool over Imogen, (and she was pretty sure she wasn't currently madly in love with her-- you tended to notice that sort of thing, right??)

She glared at the other girl again. It was weird. Surely they knew each other. They had /something/ in common. Abe realized that she would just have to interrogate Imogen. It was the only way.

"How about six, then? If it suits you, we can make this a sleep-over." Then Imogen wouldn't be able to escape. No sirree. Abeline would have her answers.

Even if it was something that she would regret? A small part of her wondered. Abe's determination closed around that little voice. Imogen didn't strike her as an evil agent of the negaverse.... so... well... that was probably a good thing. But other than senshi and cats... the negaverse was the only other option. She had met some other senshi; two in particular, and Imogen was...

Imogen was going to feel creeped out if Abe didn't break eye-contact soon. Like a cat, she glanced away, packing up her books unhurriedly.

Now, Imo had to admit being stared at was making her sort of nervous. Abeline had always been a bit hard to approach but this was like she was personally annoyed at her. The glaring was getting sorta....but no. Imo was determined and when she was determined she never stopped. She wanted to get on with Abe and damnit she would!

"Sure! My roomate and I both go home on weekends anyway, so, I'll just grab my bag and head over to yours instead." She replied and tried to keep it light hearted, babbling on withouth much thought - "Thank goodness it's Friday, hm? I'm glad you don't want me to come over too late. I don't like to be out at night. Youma-monsters, y'know?"
