likes the great gatsby, black coffee, foreign foods, soccer, trains, large cities, dark chocolate, the colour white, 80s bands, early 20th century literature, saturday evenings, jogging, and grey weather.
dislikes op-ed columns in the paper, 90s music, romance novels, sweet food, early mornings, sparkles, ties, animals, pineapples, quiet rooms, and being alone.
hopes his situation will improve, rita will come back, he'll come into money, his parents will start to support him again.
fears that things will get worse, that he's become pathetic, aliens.
style band t-shirts and jeans, casual clothing.
personality
Edwin is a rather depressed young man who used to be confident, someone who was meant to be a people person but suddenly hasn't been having much luck socially. His situation is making him more isolated, as it's always been harder for him to relax and get along with people when he's feeling stressed. He's desperate for attention, especially of a romantic nature, and it shows when he talks to women, ultimately driving them away. He's begun to stop taking care of himself, showering less regularly, cleaning his apartment less, caring less about what kind of job he has, since he doesn't have anyone left to impress but the girls he tries to meet at cafés. When he's at his best, Edwin is laid back and affable in a sort of needy way. At his worst, he's apathetic and drawn.

Edwin Kite is 23 and suffering from depression. It's been two years since he graduated from college and he's been drifting ever since. The son of a pair of successful doctors, he comes from a fairly wealthy and loving family, and he's used to getting what he wants. Living on his own now, he has to support himself, and his college sweetheart has become disenchanted with him as he's become distant, gloomy, and irritable. She broke up with him by moving her things and leaving a note on the kitchen table in July, and since then things have only deteriorated. These days Edwin spends most of his free time reading The Great Gatsby in cafes and laughing a little too quickly at attractive womens' jokes, but his apartment is a mess and it's rare when he remembers to eat three meals a day. At 23, nearly broke, alone, and purposeless, Edwin's a poor little rich boy trying to make it on his own and finding out that when there's no one to appreciate you it's hard to motivate yourself to look after yourself.
