Rex was not letting Gus pick where they dined out at anymore. It wasn't like they went out for food all that often to begin with but still each time Rex had let Gus choose and each time it had been a disaster. It was as though Gus had seen every fast food restaurant commercial aimed at children his age and decided to ignore them becuase as of yet they hadn't gone anymore remotely normal.

First had been the sushi place where neither of them ended up eating anything but Gus took home some shells to remember the experience by. Then the thai place which had lead to serious indigestion after, and the raw food place where Rex was certain they weren't actually being served real food at all.

Now as they entered the doors of a warm and pleasant smelling noddle shop Rex couldn't help but wonder what sort is disaster waited within this time.

Gus on the other hand was bouncing from foot to foot, wiggling his tiny ears and trying to figure out what exactly it was he smelled.

Gus was started by being charged and hugged but the teal skinned boy maintained his balance and peered at the source of sudden affection. He raised a claw tipped hand to poke gently at one of Verali's mustache puffs. " It's me" he confirmed with a nod. "Is the food good?" he inquired while hugging back with one arm. If the food was good they could and and eat and be happy, if it was bad well then his Rex would make the frowny faces and there would be no fun even with Verali here.

Rex eyed the man still at the counter curiously, he wasn't who the girl had been with before. Still the man nodded at the other and gave him a knowing smile as if to say ' kids'. As long as they weren't disrupting other patrons or blocking the door it probbaly wouldn't hurt to let the two talk.

Gus was fine with being lead towards the counter, curious at the prospect of cheese and noodles that wasn't macaroni. He looked over his shoulder to make sure his Rex would follow before stepping forward though "Can I try yours?"

Rex just followed the children and dug in his back pocket for his wallet. Well by the sounds of things the food here should at least be edible.

Gus fumbled hopelessly for a minute or two before managing to use the long plastic utensils well enough to pick up a single noodle and get it into his hooked mouth. He chewed the single strand for a moment then swallowed, mmm!. "It tastes really good," he agreed, a little to know for sure relieved that he hadn't picked bad place again.

Gus frowned at well, Verali was nice he didn't think she could have any of the bad funny looking germs you saw on tv sometimes. You had to listen to adults though and aside from a brief unhappy look at the brown haired man the merdragon did not object. Instead he just accepted the suddenly appearing spoon offered by Rex and settled onto the seat next to Verali. " I have a spoon now," he commented as if it wasn't obvious.

Rex moved to sit on the other side of his son as he ordered his own bowl of noodles. He'd pay Verali's father back for the shared food later or just order another bowl for the two children to finish splitting if necessary. He didn't feel like getting into an argument over sharing food if the other man didn't object to that. Mostly Rex just wanted a nice decent tasting meal that would hopefully make Gus sleepy after he was full.

Gus ate with slightly more manners than his friend though that may have been becuase the teal skinned boy had a much harder time slurping do to the shape of his mouth. Either way he was enjoying the noodles a great deal and more so becuase Verali was here. His fin ended tail swayed behind him a little and he smiled over at the girl "Next time" , becuase there had to be one whether it was here or not, "I pick something to share" he promised. While he was attached to things and the memories and emotions they invoked.

Rex looked over at Verali's father " Are we supposed to trade numbers or something now?" It felt like he was dating the other by proxi or something. things had been easier with his daughter, all her interaction with others had been pre-arranged by his wife or part of play groups she'd been signed up in.

Gus' dark eyes widened in surprised and he nodded furiously " I want to see that." He wanted to know what sort of costumes they wore and just what happened at a circus.

Rex dug into his own pocket and pulled out a small card, it had his name and the number of a private home phone line on it. It was the card he usually handed out to witnesses , neighbors etc when he was working a case. " I'm certain your home will prove to be the more interesting." Though he did bring the squad car home sometimes and kids always seemed amused by those.. and by handcuffs for reasons he did not understand.

When the two were finished and the bowl empty Gus gave a small yawn and Rex knew it was time to take him home to sleep. He let the pair say their goodbyes and nodded again to Dec before picking up Gus and carrying him out of the noddle place. All in all it had been the best dinner Gus had picked out since the tradition began.
