We already have a tengu-themed item (Yama no Tamago), a kitsune-themed one (Inari's Beads) and now a kappa-themed one (and as a side note, a tsukumogami, mainly karakasa-themed one (Furugasa)), so why should we miss out on the last one of the four most well known Japanese monsters?
Also, Timmy's spirit animal is a grapefruit. I find that fitting. XD

Actually, I've read in several places that Mizuchi's Jewel is about the legend of Susanoo and Orochi, not kappas.
