As if the Avatar: Last Airbender wasn't bad enough for its lack of Oriental accuracy, the upcoming movie based on the loyal Japanese dog is about as whitewashed as a 60s DC film.
I'm quite disappointed in Hollywood...

I wouldn't rush to say they hate Asians. I'm not particularly familiar with how many Asian actors there are in Hollywood but I do wonder if they're harder to come by than white actors. I do think it's entirely retarded to make movies about Asians starring white people with a few Asian extras.

I dont' know about the recent Hachi movie, but I do know from reading a few articles that the director of the Avatar movie was...well heres some examples:
* "If you're Korean, wear a kimono."
* From a staff from the Animated series: "I just received words from the movie producers. They are not going to use Chinese calligraphy at all, replacing it with unreadable symbols. I won’t be participating in the movie."
* Call Card: "Wanted: Caucasian or any other ethnicity"
And according to MANAA, there were plenty of available asian actors willing to work
Maybe saying Hollywood hates asians is an overstatement, but theres definitely someone in hollywood who hates them plenty to ignore asian actors in favor of caucasian. I strongly believe these people have a case in regards to the discrimination of the movie. sad

Ya know...I don't think it's hate. I think it's fear. We (the America as a whole 'we') fear difference. What's the first thing we do when we enter a country? Try to force them to accept our values and ideals and culture. Prime example is what we're doing in the current war.
If we make a movie with Asians and using Asian characters (writing) and so on and so forth, it might make Americans consider interests outside of their own culture!! OH MY GOD!!!

I agree - I don't think it's hate, but there seems to be some sort of issue. Mugoi makes a good point - notice how the only Asian actors we see on the screen are those that have come to America or are American born? Either that or they are internationally recognized by all the major countries?
For example, Disney is good at bringing in kids from different cultures, but they are usually American born. Jackie Chan has come to the Hollywood scene from China a long time ago to make it as an actor. Or the weird casting of Xang Ziyu or whatever her name is - playing Chiyo/Sayuri in Memoirs of a Geisha even though she's Chinese not Japanese? She was internationally recognized as a major star from her previous films. I think when American cast actors, they kinda lump all the Asians together.
That and I believe that producers are after the cash. Don't forget, we all have the same common interest - the Asian culture, but the rest of America doesn't have the same interests. So why put out an Asian movie with real Asian actors that no one has heard about, when you can make the same movie with actors that Americans know? Plus, with the surplus of actors in America, why not give no name American actors a shot? In the end, I think it boils down to which will make more money. Unfortunately. U_U;

or maybe they're kind of ignorate and blinded by money, just cause caucasian has the word "asian" in it they probably think "oh people wont know the difference" cause I'm caucasin and people think me and my friend in school, who is japanese, are related and we both look at each other like "wtf?"

in my opinion, we are the few who have opened our eyes we see the world as the world, the rest of the world has their eyes closed they see asians as the sterio type their smart and thats all their good for the rest of their talents are unrelized because americans version of speaking japanese is "domo arigato mr roboto" in other words the vast majority of america is a bunch of idiots, though im willing to hear other arguments

as an asian, i wouldnt say hate but they got a bone to pick or two. seriously, not trying to get defensive but, in every show, how is the asian person portrayed? disney is a complete b***h about this kinda' thing. There is two possibilities; 1. the asian is mean and is portrayed as the antagonist (ocupled with being extremely stupid) or 2. is a nerd and probably will get the s**t beat outta' them. I can only recall a asian protagonist as a person who knows kung fu and can beat the s**t out of everyone, or Lucy Luu in Charlie's Angels. (Lucy did rock that part though xD) When there is a stereotype about a japanese man, they go with goofy accent in a suit. same thing with black people, when theyre protrayed in american movies, he/she can mob you with only 1 person in the group. Hell go check out the new Dora crap, they have 2 latinas 2 white chicks and 1 african. and when they drew the asians, they made the chinkyness waaaay to chinky, and korean culture isnt in chinese culture thankyou berry much xD
and btw corporate america, italians arent just super mario and his brother luigi -_-;

Sheesh people, old news is old now! Lets leave this thread to die and focus on the nice things about Japan that hasn't been severely hacked, chopped and served (with imitation crab) by other countries.
Such as their music. 3nodding An entire culture in itself.
