Azzo hated going out to shop for things, speically when it was his grandmother's lists. He couldn't read her hand writing and she wouldn't tell him everything on it so he could translate it.

Batty old lady. He figured he'd just guess and grab what ever looked closest to the old lady's chicken scratch. Of course the problem would be getting the items home.... He wished he had money for a car or something similar so he didn't have to lug the stuff on the buss and potentially make his ribs worse.

He sighed leaning on the shopping cart as it was still empty, he was standing over out of the way at least he hoped he was out of the way near the hot dogs. Trying to make out the list. "I swear Grams needs to start using the typewriter for this thing if she's going to send me shopping."

Getting out of the house was easier said than done.

Though the majority of Grayson's wounds were healing much faster than expected due to his status as a senshi, his parents were woefully ignorant of this fact. They expected Grayson to be bedridden for much longer than he was, and were constantly fawning over him and scolding him for moving around so much. He couldn't exactly show them that they had nothing to worry about without raising even more suspicion, either, so while he was at home he had to pretend to be a lot more injured than he was.

It was enough to drive him a little bit crazy. On top of everything else that had been going on, Grayson really just wanted a little bit of alone time.

That was why he'd snuck out against his better judgment, bundled in a sweater and scarf, doing his best to hide the fading scratches on his cheeks with the cheerful purple wool. He was leaning over a display of hot dogs, lips pursed as he ran his fingers over the packaging, trying to decide on the best ones.

After all, what better was was there to spend your first official paycheck than on food?

Azzo finally made out the list, well the best he could and was headed over to pick up chili for hamburgers and hot dogs which incidentally were over the hot dogs. He noticed a guy hovering over the dogs.

"If it's not too much trouble, could you hand me a tub of that chili?" He nodded just a few shelves above. However he hoped he hadn't startled the guy. He hated reaching over people, and it was even worse now that his ribs where still sore and healing.

His eyes caught that one of the hot dogs were on sale. Peering at the brand he nodded, "If you don't mind handing me a pack of those dogs that are on sale too?" He paused, "I hate to even ask, but my ribs are still healing..... from that.... ring... thing that's been on the news...." He made a slight grimace hoping it wasn't one of the people that'd freak.

Having finally selected the package that seemed to contain the best hot dogs, Grayson was about to rise and head down to the condiments section when he was approached. He turned, blinking, and his eyes widened a little. Not because the person before him was especially startling, but because he recognized him. Azzo, though he couldn't remember his last name... he'd gone to Barren Pines, though. And he was alive, which couldn't be discounted.

Smiling suddenly, widely, Grayson nearly forgot that he'd been, well, forgotten. He passed over the hot dogs he'd just selected for himself, saying cheerfully, "Sure thing. Do you want the mild or the spicy chili?"

It was obvious he was happy to see Azzo, though he hadn't explained himself at all. In truth, it just looked like he was a remarkably friendly person.

Who had an angry cat.

Something was nagging at the back of his mind. Did he know this one too?

"Mild. Gram's can't really eat the spicy." He was leaning on the buggy slightly. He noticed the scratches but didn't really want to mention those, considering that, the nagging at the back of his mind, was something he'd felt a few times before.

"You didn't happen to be in that same.... rin- err what'd they say it was called... Barren Pines.... did you?" He said not really sure weather to call it by the 'fake' school name or the organ ring. So he opted for the school name.

Grayson's smile faded at the edges, and apprehension swam through his eyes as he turned away and reached for the mild chili. So far, he hadn't met anyone who actually wanted to talk about Barren Pines... at least, no one who'd gone there. It seemed strange to him, and frankly, he didn't want to discuss it. At all. Too much had happened, too much had been lost, and he just didn't want to think about it. He didn't think he was ready to think about it. If all that hadn't been enough, he really didn't want to talk about it with Azzo, whom he barely knew. Who it seemed like didn't even remember him, which he couldn't be blamed for, but...

Adjusting his scarf, he offered the chili, smiling again. It was a more polite smile, more impersonal than the one before had been. "Here you go. Err," he added, thinking about the question.

He had gone to Barren Pines. But he didn't want to talk about it. Still, he couldn't justify lying.

Finally, he shrugged. "Yeah. I was.. there." He adjusted his scarf again, lips pressed into a thin line for a moment. "I don't really.. want to talk about it, though."

As he spoke, he looked faintly apologetic, but firm. Grayson really didn't want to talk about it.

Azzo nodded softly as he took chili, "Thanks." He said softly before pausing looking almost confused.

"Eh... don't worry I don't remember much... just your face.... like others looked familiar." He wrinkled his nose, "I keep seeing faces..." He said with a sigh.

"I was trying to figure out why." He said softly before sitting the chili in the buggy. "So... uh.... HI, I'm Azzo." While Grayson might remember him, he didn't remember Grayson. Even if he really wanted to for some reason all his memories save bits and pieces about certain people where, well, gone.

However he paused, "So... how've you been doing?" It seemed Azzo was fishing for converstation this time and unsure how to actually start it.

Grayson shifted from foot to foot, feeling a little bad for Azzo. While he didn't wish the memories of Barren Pines on anyone, he supposed if he hadn't known what had happened, he'd wonder where all that time had gone. If he started seeing people he thought he remembered, he'd probably want to find out why, too. Still, he firmly believed Azzo was better off not knowing, and he knew he was better off not rehashing the horrible details of the end of Barren Pines.

He looked down into his hand basket, hesitated a moment, and then added another pack of hot dogs. Knowing him, they'd go fast. "Oh, I've been... good."

Here he was lying, a bit, but Grayson was used to telling white lies for the benefits of others. He couldn't say things had been exactly good since Barren Pines, but they hadn't been as horrifying as the experience itself. So, it wasn't too much of a fib.

Pointing over his shoulder, he said, "I need to get condiments, so..." and began to edge that way, asking as he did, "How have you been?"

Apparently, Grayson wasn't against continuing the conversation, he just really wanted to make sure he got everything in the world to put on his dogs.

Azzo snagged a pack of dogs as he walked by and some slaw, trying not to wince as he moved too quickly. Then following Grayson eyes still on the list, still trying to make out what it says, "I need to get Grams a type writer...." He muttered.

"I've been... alright for a guy with broken ribs I guess." He shrugged, almost nonchalantly. He'd come to terms with 'this s**t is just going to hurt till it heals'.

When they got over to the isle he grabbed a jar of pickles. "I know it's probably crappy of me to ask, but I can't remember your name..." He grimaced slightly. Azzo couldn't even remember names, some others seemed to vaguely remember or be able to at least recall part of his so far. Or maybe they'd just read it on they're way into his hospital room, whatever it was. Azzo still couldn't shake the feeling he should know some of these guys better.

He noticed the isle with the condiments also had beans. Which from what he could tell of the list, grams wanted black eye peas. So when they got there he resolved to try to grab a few cans, hopefully on a mid shelf so he wouldn't have to aggravate his ribs again.

Grayson blinked. "Oh, sorry. Grayson. My name is Grayson."

He would have offered his hand, but he was busy getting relish off the shelf, and he didn't want to drop it. So, he tucked it into his basket, offered Azzo a brief smile. The broken ribs didn't sound like fun at all, but at least he was up and about. If there was one place Gray really didn't like to be, it was the hospital. He figured most people felt that way, though.

"Sorry about your ribs. You're out shopping with broken ribs?" He asked a breath later, eyebrows raised incredulously. "Shouldn't someone else be doing that for you?"

He knew his parents wouldn't let him out of the house if he had broken ribs.

Azzo paused, "Ah, Grayson. Nice to meet you." He grinned and filed the name away.

He paused, thinking of how to word the answer, "Grams is too old for the cold weather." He said after a second, "It's better I go than her. I don't want her to end up with pneumonia."

He wrinkled his nose, "That and my parents aren't really back from whatever trip they took. Nor have I gotten to speak to them, since you know... they think the old lady's batty."

He shrugged, he didn't care much for his parents it seemed, leaving him in the hospital and not believing grams was one thing. "It's better this way." He added in picking a few more beans from the shelves and placing them in the buggy.

"Oh." Grayson was a little bemused, because for all that his life was strange and fantastic one the one hand, he had a remarkably normal, well balanced family and school life. His parents loved each other and their children, and maybe they expected a lot from him, but what parent didn't? He wasn't a star student but he wasn't quite flunking everything (yet) so he didn't have to worry too much. Sure, his family had their arguments, but they all got along.

It was a little unsettling to know so many people whose families just didn't. He was really a lot luckier than he'd ever considered.

"Well, if it's for the best," he said easily, dismissing the topic. Azzo probably didn't want to talk overmuch about the things that were bothering him; Grayson knew he never wanted to. "Excuse me - sorry, just want to get some of that sauerkraut - thanks."

Stuffing the jar in his basket, he rocked back on his heels, raising his brows lightly. It seemed like every time he tried to start a conversation, it turned to something unpleasant. Was it just him, or Azzo, maybe? He was running out of things to talk about.

So, lamely, he said, "I like everything on my hot dogs. What about you?"

Azzo paused, he sighed, "Sorry, they're just a bit .... eh. I don't know how to word it." He smiled, "They're family though, can't stay mad at them all the time."

It wasn't always that he hated them, of course he did miss his family. They were just a bother for not believing Grams this time. That and he needed a while to think and keep them from clouding his thoughts by their own.

He moved over so Grayson could get the sauerkraut. "Hm... Most stuff honestly. I prefer pickles though over sauerkraut." He chuckled, "Sauerkraut tastes a lot more like vinegar than pickles do. At least to me."

He looked around the Aisle. "Hm... Do you know where the baking stuff is? It looks... if I can read this right... Like Grams needs more... well everything to do baking with." He gave a slight unnerved grin. "She loves to bake and stuff everyone full of sweets.. Not to mention I've not been shopping in what seems like forever. So... I've forgotten where things are."

He paused, pondering, "Are you at Meadowview too?"
PostPosted: Thu Feb 11, 2010 6:49 pm

Grayson began leading Azzo toward the baking section, knowing his way around it quite well thanks to Elke. He didn't bake much personally, only when he really had to, but he knew enough to get by. He could make a mean batch of cinnamon buns in desperation, from scratch, even. He just didn't want that kind of thing getting out.

"This way... and yeah, Meadowview." He shifted his basket on his arm, reaching up to run his fingertips over his cheek. The scratches itched while they healed, which was mildly annoying. "For the rest of this year, anyway. If I can keep my grades up, I should be able to graduate... just barely, but I should be able to."

Thank God. He didn't know what he was going to do after that, but at least he had one goal in sight.

Azzo nodded, following Grayson. He grabbed a can of coffee on the way into the isle. "I don't understand why they put the tea and coffee with the baking goods." He said idly, "Looks like it'd make more sense to have all the drink type items in one section."

Pausing giving a nod "Same here." He said, "If only they hadn't throw me into science class... I think though they have a college prep school opening up. But I was thinking about some sort of job somewhere." He gave a slight nod. Looking around at the spices and for the flour and sugar.
