The Ancients
Σχετικά: This topic is going to give a better background on who exactly the Vampire Ancients are and how they came to be the first vampires. The starting setting will be during the dark ages of Europe, set in what is present day Peloponnisos (Greece). More will be explained of the place when the history is retold in posts to come.
Χαρακτήρες: The only characters involved will be all characters that I own myself (or have permission to use). Because the start of the history takes place in the very early years of Earth in the Demon universe, no characters from current Demon role plays will be present. This is subject to change due to the fact that it will be explained how they each had a hand in the history of the dimensions and the races who live in them.
Κανόνες: None for now. May add some later if opened up to others for posting.
Ερωτήσεις: All questions should be directed to my account (Imaonionknight) via PM.
Άλλος: Characters that will be allowed to enter later on will all be characters who are old enough to be present at the given time period. Mostly royals and old servants, then possibly older reapers will be seen in the history, but the main focus is to be around the ancients and how they interact with one another.
Έξω Από Χαρακτήρα Μιλώντας: There will be a place within the OOC subforum to chat about the role play. No posts other than history posts should be submitted into this forum. Thank you! Link to OOC thread

Setting Around the beginning of the 7th century BC, the Peloponnese peninsula was mostly owned by the people of Sparta. Holding up a creed of righteousness and truth, the people prospered under the protection of their government and their esteemed Spartan Army. However, coastal cities were always under attack from conquerors and rogue forces who wanted to pillage the towns, rape and enslave the women, and lay waste to the men. It was a constant battle to maintain major ports for trade with allied nations, but it was a battle that the government of Sparta saw fit to fight. This particular part of the history takes place in a seaside city called Balistar. Located at the tip of the Peloponnese peninsula, the city is a huge port for trade with Crete and other nearby islands. The city is not very large, but most of the buildings are set back from the seashore due to the fact that the grounds are soft and easily washed away by strong ocean currents. Local economy is struggling at this time due to a problem with rogue ships attacking merchant ships and looting the goods before they can reach the docks. Most income is made by fishermen and farmers, but merchants and artisans make decent money as well when the rogues leave the import ships alone. Militia in the area is strong to try and fight off on-shore attacks from the rogues. Looking out over the flat clay rooftops of the houses one can see that the city is built in semi-circular tiers leading away from the coast as the land rises up. The highest point in the city is the church set upon the second tier. The large steeple is viewable anywhere in the city and serves as a guiding hand to travelers and townsfolk alike. Other notable locations within Balistar is the gardens near the government house, the local theater used by mystics and performers, the town square and market plaza where shops are open most hours of the day, and the massive docks along the coast that bring in and ship out goods. Education in the area is good and most citizens of Balistar can read and write the local dialect. Overall lifestyle of the city is good and the people are satisfied with the government for the time being. Though there has been rumor of rebellion if more is not done about the rogue issue. |~| Information |~| Characters |~| Setting |~|

Part 1 Delicacy of Life
Maneuvering through the busy marketplace, two friends holding hands peered into the different merchant stalls that were established in strategic ways to attract passing potential customers to try their wares. One friend, a young-looking man with shaggy dark hair and dark attire, held tightly a leash upon which a smart-looking dog was clasped. The other friend, a small dark-haired woman dressed in mostly white clothes, carried a basket full of an assortment of foods for a meal to come. As the two walked, passing individuals gave long glances at the pair and the furry companion, then probably thought somewhere along the lines of 'he must be rich and in love with her' or 'how strange that man is, he must be visiting' after the two were out of sight. Nevertheless, the two friends thought nothing of those around them as they finished their walk through the market and began to move between the houses.
"Human beings are such quaint creatures, Miss Lee. Their wandering eyes can get them into such serious trouble if they are not careful. Do they not see that?" the man commented thoughtfully as he looked about to make sure nobody could hear the conversation between the two.
With a light laugh, the woman replied, "only the blind can see that, I guess. Humans are curious creatures at heart and their eyes are used to fill this massive curiosity for the unknown." She shifted the basket in her hand so it sat in the crook of her arm now and she continued to giggle at the man beside her. "You do not seem to mind using yours for your own curiosity, Mr. Hellfire."
"Nar, please," the man playfully retorted with a smirk, "I only look to make sure we can be safe together in our conversations. My identity is not to be known to anybody outside our network, otherwise that can be detrimental to my health and possibly yours too." He couldn't help but smile at the quick remark from the woman at his side. The two had been close friends since his arrival to the area from the North when he was four. His mother had decided to move when accusations arose over whom his father was and where he could be found. His father, however, was never to be found by humans for he was an immortal or god. The God of Death to be exact and he had fallen in love with a mortal woman while visiting the Earth. Thus he was conceived and born into the human world as a demi-god until he could die and take his place in the afterlife with his father. Though how he was supposed to die was unclear to him because he was basically immortal to human sickness and weaponry. But as he walked along with his best friend he forgot about his destiny in life and just enjoyed the lovable company of the woman and his dog.
"Awww, so you do care about me," Narssissuss smiled and giggled innocently. She was such a playful creature, but genuinely good through and through. Known for being so generous with her will to help others, Nar was revered as one of the best single women in the city. Many wondered why she had not married and settled down, but she would smile and say, 'my happiness comes from helping others. I do not need to love someone to be happy.' Still, even though she would say this, Nar found that she was lonely sometimes while her brother was out and her friend occupied by other things. Now that she thought about it, the woman's smile widened and she stated, "Guess what, Kash."
Kashmir looked at the woman from the corner of his eye and then looked ahead at the road. "Oh lord.....can it wait till we get inside?" he stated as he quickened his pace to the house where he was living. With the way she was acting it had to be something interesting, but he wanted to be inside somewhere before anything was said on the matter. However, when he approached the door to his home he watched a postal man wander up to the door and knock softly. Approaching the man, Kashmir stated, "Yes? Can I help you with something, sir?"
The postal man paused for a moment, then handed the package over to the demi-god and stated, "Delivery to you from an unknown address, Mr. Helms." Then the postal man turned and walked off down the road again, heading to the next address.
"Hmmm....how odd...." the dark haired man stated as he held the package in his hand and examined it closely. It was crudely wrapped in an expensive brown paper, but no writing was on it besides his name and address. "I was not expecting a package, but no matter. Come, let us go inside," he purred to Nar as he let her hand go and withdrew a key from his pocket to unlock his house door. Pushing it open he held it for the woman and his dog before following them inside and closing the door behind them. Setting the package down on the table, Kashmir took his dog off its leash before turning to Nar and asking, "So, what do you have to tell me?"

Nar had entered the house and set the basket down upon the table as she began to put the items within it away. "Hmmm? Oh yeah!" she giggled, remembering what she wanted to say as she put the fruits away in a cupboard. Turning around she placed her hands on the back of the nearest kitchen chair and grinned widely. But as she opened her mouth to say something, a figure from a different room in the house entered the kitchen and took a chair, looking at the woman and man who had entered.
"Yes, do tell. What is so special that has you all smiles today, sis?" smirked the spiky haired man who was leaning over the back of a chair looking right at the woman. He wore no shirt and only dark shorts for the time being, and looked almost as if he had just woken up. His bright eyes shined in the sunlight that came through the window and his smirk seemed almost devilish.
"Well...." she paused as her cheeks colored and her peppy nature from before faded away. “I….uhhh….met someone the other day while I was out…..” she began as she stumbled over her words. Her cheeks were red hot now and her eyes had been averted to look down at the table before her. “He is….is very nice….and charming….and I…I…I…” her voice trailed off as she looked up at her brother. “I think I love him.”
The spiky haired man blinked for a moment, then busted out laughing at his sister’s innocent actions. “You? In love with someone?” he hollered as he nearly fell out of his chair from laughing so hard. “What ever happened to ‘I don’t need love to be happy’? Honestly, girl….”
“Nick, stop it,” hissed Kashmir as he gave the man a sharp look. Nickolas, twin brother to Narssissuss, was the cruel one of the family. Unlike his sister, Nick would not help anybody unless it benefited himself in some way. Being a Spartan warrior gave him the free-range ability that he wanted, and he made sure to show off the power he possessed every chance he could. Sometimes it was wondered if Nick even loved his sister. He was always so mean to her despite how good she was to him. But the demi-god never questioned the relationship between the twins and only stepped in when he thought Nick had crossed the line with the blatant attacks on emotions.
The Spartan laughed some more and replied with a small snarl, “are you going to stop me, god reject?” His lip curled up into a smirk and his attention returned to his sister. “Besides, she needs some cruelty in her life. She has it all easy; doesn’t work, doesn’t have kids, doesn’t tend to a husband. What more could a woman her age want?”
“No, she just cleans your house, cooks your food, buys what is needed around here, and helps other people out. All I ever see you do is reap the benefits of having a single sister living in your house and abuse other people who threaten you,” Kashmir retorted as he stepped closer to Nick in a threatening way. Things were going a bit too far this time, and he wanted to put an end to this tyranny now. "What are you even doing home at this hour? Aren't you supposed to be out roaming the streets in your underpants and cape and bothering someone else for a change?"
Nick stood up from his chair and clenched his fists. "I have the day off, and I planned on enjoying it until you two returned. Now I guess I have to put up with Sir Whines-a-lot and Miss Goody-two-shoes," he huffed as he rolled his eyes in disgust. He and Kashmir had never really gotten along too well, but because the demi-god was his sister's best friend and really had nowhere to stay, Nickolas had to learn to put up with the man for now. He looked over at his sister, who had sat down in a nearby chair and sat resting her hands in her lap while her eyes looked off into space. Smiling softly at how peaceful she looked despite the attacks from himself, Nick nodded towards the package on the table and stated, "where did that come from?"
"The postman brought it as we were walking up," Kashmir spat as his eyes locked with the man he disliked the most. If only he wasn't Nar's sibling.... the demi-god thought darkly as he sat down at the table and took the package in his hands once more to examine it.

Nar looked at the package curiously as well before asking slowly, "are you going to open it, Kash? It might be a late birthday present." She smiled hopefully and wished that the two would stop arguing with one another. She loved her brother, but she loved her best friend as well and never really understood why they could not get along. Then again it was hard to understand why other people could not get along as well. "I guess I should, though I doubt it is a birthday present," Kashmir chuckled as he began to remove the brown paper wrapping from whatever was inside. From within the brown paper the demi-god removed a black cube of sorts with strange lettering engraved into the cube on the different faces. Each face had a different character that glowed a different color except one, which had a bunch of writing on it. "Do not open until dark....what an odd instruction," he stated as he showed Narssissuss the cube. "It looks like an odd present, but I guess that is fitting for a person like you," Nick chuckled as he came closer to see the cube himself. "I wonder what makes the runes glow that color. Is it a magic of sorts?"Kashmir looked at the cube closer and replied thoughtfully, "No, I believe it is the light reflecting off the surface of the engravement and the rune itself is embedded with different colored stones. Look, it doesn't glow when moved out of the light." He put his hand between the stream of light and the cube and the three watched the glow fade. Blinking to make sure what she was seeing was real, Nar touched the cube softly and commented, "how interesting. But what does it mean by open? I do not see anywhere to open it at.""Is there a button somewhere you have to press?" Nick asked as he took the cube and looked it over himself. He pressed his fingers on the corners and edges to try and find a hidden weak point that would open the cube itself. "Be careful, Nickolas!" Narssissuss breathed sharply as she took the cube away from her brother and handed it back to Kashmir. "You might accidentally open it and something bad could happen.""So you think it has magic contained within it?" Kashmir asked as he took the cube back. "And if we open it at dark we will get special powers?" The demi-god seemed kind of excited about this sudden talk of magic. He was thrilled by this mystical belief of super powers that heroes had in legends. "Would Herman be able to tell if it contained magic?""You two have lost it!" Nickolas exclaimed as he drew back from the two at the table. "Magic? Special powers? You really believe in that stuff?""Yes, Herman can do magic, Nick. If he can do it then it must be real," Nar smiled. Nick stood there open mouthed looking at the two people. Once he came to he shook his head and began to walk off. "Whatever. Go get your 'Magician' to tell you if that black box has magic in it. I am going back to bed."Nar's smile disappeared and she called out after her brother sadly, "you mean you don't want to find out about the magic or lack thereof?" Her smile returned because she knew her brother couldn't resist leaving and not witnessing himself being right like he usually was. Stopping in the doorway of the bedroom, Nickolas turned slowly to look back at his sister. She knew what really got to him, and she was right about this. He wanted to see the crushed look on the faces of the two currently at the table if it was discovered that there was not any magic in the black box after all. With a sigh he came back into the main room and sat down at the table before asking lazily, "when will Herman be home?""Pretty soon, I would assume," Kashmir stated as he judged the time by how much sun was coming into the room. "Generally he is back by the time the shadow is touching the table."Nick nodded and laid his head down on his crossed arms. It was a short wait, but it was a wait nonetheless. He continued to stare at the black cube as the light danced on the runes and made them brightly colored once more.

The sun danced through the curtains on the back window and played out on the table where the three people sat waiting. One sat tracing the designs with their finger on the table while the other two gazed off into opposite parts of the room. All were silent and anticipating the front door to open at any moment and another companion to enter their abode.
But a knock came on the door that made the three jump in their seats. "I will get it," Kashmir stated as he stood and went to the door, leaving the two siblings sitting alone at the table. Nar continued to trace the patterns from the sun on the table as Nick now watched the door as Kashmir opened it. Who could that be at this hour? Surely not the mail man again, he came once before....
Opening the door, Kashmir stood face to face with a man a little bit shorter than he, but built almost the same. He was dressed in strange clothes not from their part of the world and he seemed a mess. But he looked up at the man in the doorway and spoke gruffly, "If ye be so kind to step aside, sir. It be Miss Lee I be needing to give a message to."
The twins jumped up from the table and crossed over to the door, Nick arriving before Narssissuss. "What the hell do you need her for, you tramp?" sneered Nickolas as he towered over the strange man. "And why should I trust her with you? How do you know where we live?"
Putting a hand on her brothers back as she squeezed between the two larger men to the front she commented, "Nickolas relax, he just has a message." She turned to the man and nodded her head in respect to him. "Forgive them, good sir, they are just a bit overprotective. You said I have a message?"
The man's eyes lit up as he scratched his dirty head and bowed deeply to the woman. "Me Cap'n send word to his lady that he be visit'n on the eve in cover of Lady Luna. He bids ye best wishes for a ples'nt meeting and asks ye be waiting wit' the door unlocked just to be sure nutt'n be happenin." He looked to the two taller men who seemed confused before giving a snaggle-toothed grin and scampering up the house across from them and taking off across the rooftops in the direction of the ocean.
Seeming to melt in place, Narssissuss gave a delightful sigh and put her hand over her heart. The color crept up in her cheeks and her smile was wide and full of joy. "And I will be waiting, Raziel. Always waiting for you," she whispered under her breath as she turned and was confronted by the two men in the doorway.
"What the hell was that about? Who the hell was that?" Nickolas shouted as he and Kashmir ushered her back into the house and shut the front door.
"Yeah, and what right does he have coming here to give you a message like that? Just who is this 'Raziel' of which you speak?"
"Wait!" Nickolas stated as his eyes widened. "You mean Raziel O'Hara? Leader of the pirates who threaten our people?"
"You're in love with a criminal?!? I can't believe this!!! You, the pure of heart with a...a....a scoundrel?!?"
"I could care less if it was a thug or local thief, but a pirate? Narssissuss! You can get into some serious trouble! Imagine what would happen if the other Spartans found out! I would be ruined for life!"
Snapping out of her trance Nar looked at the two men who had been shouting at her for a few minutes now and just gave them a blank stare. "What is your problem? Can I not make decisions on my own? Am I not allowed to be happy?"
"Of course, dear, but he is not going to bring you happiness," Kashmir replied as he rested a hand on Nar's shoulder. "He is a pirate so he will not be around for you to see all the time. He is a criminal, a wanted man, and will always be on the run from the law. What kind of life is that to be with a man who is wanted dead by everybody else?"
"Besides, he lives on a ship with dirty men and dirty women. I've seen their kind on our shores, those ******** whores. Is that what you want to become, a whore enslaved to a ******** water pig?" Nickolas hissed as he got in his sister's face.
Shoving Nickolas back Nar's emotions nose dived from the hurtful words of the two men. She moved past her brother and Kashmir and made for her bedroom door. But her wrist was caught by her brother and she turned back to him with a cry of pain as he tightened his grip.
"Do Not Walk Away From Me When I Am Talking To You! Understand?" growled Nickolas as he drew his sister back into the room and glared at her.
"Nick, stop," Kashmir stated with a roll of his eyes as he stepped next to them and put his hands on Nar's shoulders to keep her from going anywhere. "Nar, we are just looking out for your best interests. We do not want you to be unhappy, but it is next to impossible to be happy with someone who makes a living off of other people's misery. I mean...." he paused for a moment and looked at Nickolas, who seemed to be glaring back at him. "Well....you get the point."
"But I am happy! Just wait till he comes and I will show you what he is like," Nar retorted as she struggled to remove the hands from her shoulders and wrist. "He is not like the others. Not one bit, and you will see."
The front door opened and through it shuffled a man of weird sorts. His clothes were a patchwork of different colors and designs and within a variety of little satchels were a variety of mystic items that rattled and jingled as he moved along. "Hello lovelies!" the orange haired man called out with a large grin on his face. "Boy I have quite the story to tell you. I read the bones today and they told me that something amazingly good was going to happen today. Can you believe it? I'm so thrilled I could just sing and dance!" With that he began to hop about from one foot to another as he made odd noises with his mouth. His bags bounced up and down as he pranced about and they made a ruckus of sounds.
"Herman, be careful!" Nickolas exclaimed as he let go of his sister and rushed to the colorful man and tried to get him to stop dancing about. "You are liable to break something swinging your body around like that. Those bags could easily come off and break a window or something!"
"Ah, not these things, dearie! They are strong and will never break!" Herman chortled as he patted a hand on Nickolas's cheek and danced away from him. He paused as he spotted the black cube on the table and cooed with amusement. "And what is this new addition? Quite colorful but so void of color at the same time."
Managing to shake Kashmir's grip from her shoulders Nar moved closer to the table and picked up the cube. "Its a present for Kashmir from someone unknown. We think it could contain magic!" she chirped with excitement as she put the current argument to the back of her mind and picked up the cube to present to Herman. "But we cannot figure out how to open it. Do you think you could?"
Taking the cube and looking it Herman's eyes lit up as the cube ceased to give off color as it was removed from the light. "I could figure it out, but it might be tricky," he purred as he sat down at the table and began to mess with the cube.
"Be easy with it!" Kashmir exclaimed as he moved to the table and took the cube from Herman. "I know how to open it already, but the note said not to open it till nightfall. All I wanted to know is if you could tell if it had magic on it or not."
"Oh...so it a cursed cube, you think?" Herman grinned as he took the cube back and set it on the table to examine it again. "Yes....yes I believe I could tell if it had some sort of magic within it, but it will require a bit of time. Could you light a lamp and bring me some water? I will need both to figure out if there is really magic here or not."

Moving across the kitchen Nar opened a cabinet to bring down a bowl to put water in. She filled it with some water that had been brought in from the well and brought it over to the table. "Here you go, Herm," she stated as she placed the bowl before the orange haired man for his use. She had a suspicion on how he was going to find out if the cube had magic within it but was not too certain. So she sat down in a nearby chair and watched with anticipation.
Nickolas had retrieved the little lantern from the bedroom and brought it to the table. He removed the flint from atop the high cabinet and struck the two pieces together to create a fire for it. He returned the flint to the top of the cabinet then took a seat across from Herman to watch. "I doubt there is any. You all are too superstitious...." he commented as he crossed his arms and waited.
"Do not be so quick to judge, Nicky," Herman smiled to the man across the table from him as he reached into one of his bags and pulled out a vial containing a purple liquid of sorts. He opened it and carefully dropped a couple of drops into the bowl of water. He re-capped the vial and slid it back into his bag before withdrawing a knife and rock. He used the knife to scrape off some of the rock to make bits of metal and he cut up the bits into finer pieces before adding them to the water. He then used the knife to stir up the water before wiping it on his colorful clothes and returning it and the rock back to its proper bag. He then slid the bowl towards the light so he could see and held the cube above the bowl. "Lets see if this works...."
The front door was opened and closed quickly as a strangely clad man bustled into the room and looked around. He spotted the woman at the table and grinned before explaining himself, "Nar, the guards are coming. I need to hide, fast." His head whirled around to the door as soon as he heard knocking and a strong voice outside call for the door to open.
Nar jumped up from her seat and ran to the pirate and threw her arms around him. "Raz...." she whispered in his ear as she clung to him and took in the rich smell of the salty ocean water. She let go of him for a second and took his hand before leading him towards the back of the house where the secret trap door was.
Also jumping up from the table was Nickolas. His chair clattered to the floor and he raced for the door to open it. He pulled it open and placed his frame in the doorway. "Hey boys, what seems to be the problem?" he asked with a large smile.
Herman sat still as can be with the bowl of water in front of him, but dropped the cube into one of his bags quickly and just sat stirring the water with his finger. Kashmir sat near him with his head turned to look at the door. Acting on instinct he got up and went to the lower cabinet to grab a bottle of wine and a few glasses to pour it into. He went to work pouring some wine into them before returning to the table and sitting down casually as if nothing was happening. He had poured 3 glasses and he slid one across the table to where Nick had been sitting and the other towards Herman. "Here, drink some to make it look like we are just casually enjoying a glass of wine," he hissed quietly as he took a sip of his own wine. Herman obeyed and drank a bit, but continued to stir the water with the purple and metal in it.
Getting into the back room of the house Nar removed the rug from under her bed to show a small trap door. "I use this occasionally when I need to hide things," she whispered as she pulled a key from her pocket and unlocked the door before lifting it up. She signaled for the pirate to get into the hole for safety.
"Can I have a light or something?" he mouthed to the woman, but before she could respond he heard some louder talking in the other room. Forgetting all about the light he slid under the bed and down into the hole and out of sight.
Moving quickly the side of her bed Nar grabbed a candle and used her small piece of flint to light it. Carefully she handed it down to the pirate with a smile before she shut the trap door and slid the rug over it. She climbed into her bed and laid down to pretend she was sleeping.
"We believe we have spotted a pirate in this district. Have you seen anybody around here out of the ordinary, Nickolas?" one of the other guards asked as they were allowed to enter the house. The three guards came in and walked about a bit as if looking for the man within the house.
"Not that I have noticed, but I was not looking out for anybody either," he stated with a smile as he came back into the house and looked at the two men at the table. They had gotten out a bottle of wine and poured glasses as he had been at the door talking to them other guards. Damn they are quick...I hope Nar has that scoundrel hidden. I certainly want to meet him and give him some sharp words about all of this, he thought in his mind as he waived for the men to go towards the table. "My friends and I are just enjoying one another's company over a glass of wine."
"Nickolas you know you are not supposed to be drinking before your shift," one of the guards joked with him as they gathered around the table. Another guard pointed towards the bowl of water with strange coloring within it and asked, "what the hell is that? More of your magic tricks?"
Herman smiled weakly and replied with sarcasm, "not at all, it is a new technique used to take away the wrinkles from your skin. All the upper class women use it. It is also believed to make the male sexual experiences more enjoyable."
The guards began to laugh at what Herman had said and one of them reached for the water. "Lets find out. Here, let me use some of that stuff. Nickolas go get your sister. She needs some lessons in living if you ask me." The other guards howled with laughter.
Nickolas's face darkened and he back handed the guard who had spoken. "You keep your hands off my sister. Go ******** some other woman," he growled as he stood between the guard and the bowl of water. "If you guys are chasing a criminal you should get back to work. You wouldn't want the general to castrate you before you can enjoy what real men have, do you?"
The guards looked at each other, then began to shuffle off. "If you see anything out of the ordinary, Nickolas, do not be afraid to put up the call. We should be in the immediate area for awhile doing searches."
"Wait!" Kashmir called as he stood from his seat. He picked up the bottle of wine and handed it to the guards. "Here, it is a bit nippy outside tonight. This might keep you guys company."
"Ah yes, good on you man," a guard said as he took the bottle of wine and took a large swig from it. "Enjoy your evening, men." With that the guards were out the door and back into the street with the almost full bottle of wine.
Shutting the door Nickolas turned around to the other men and gave a relieved sigh. Nickolas growled with unsatisfaction.
"Nice way to stand up for your sister, Nickolas," breathed Kashmir as he picked up a glass of wine and carried it over to the mostly naked man at the door. He handed him the glass with a smile and rested a hand on his shoulder. "That was a noble thing of you to do."
"Awww lay off it, Kash. It was not like I did it for her," Nickolas growled as he shrugged the hand off his shoulder but still took the glass of wine. "I did it to make them leave us alone. I want to have a few words with this 'Raziel' guy." He took the glass of wine towards the back of the house to retrieve his sister and the man she was with.
Sighing Kashmir returned to his seat and traced the top of his glass with his finger. "You know it is alright to stand up for your sister and still be a man, Nickolas," he mumbled aloud as he shook his head sadly. "It does not make you any less of a man for doing so...."
"Agreed," Herman stated with a smirk. "Did they really think that this stuff would enhance sexual pleasure?" he asked Kashmir with a large grin while he continued to stir the water with one finger as he reached into his bag and withdrew the black cube.
"You will know when they come to you tomorrow and ask for some of that stuff to try out," Kashmir grinned back. "And if they do let them have it. I'm sure they would love an excuse to get something."
"Yeah..." Herman replied with a small sigh. "Too bad I couldn't see the shock on their faces when it doesn't work. A drop of the purple ink contains enough poison to kill a large dog. To see them rub the stuff on themselves would cause mutilation and death of the skin within half an hour!"

Coming into the bedroom part of the house Nickolas narrowed his eyes at his sister who seemed to be pretending to sleep. "Get up, I want to meet this man who dares to call you his own before getting to know you," he growled from the doorway as he swirled his wine in his glass.
Opening her eyes Nar looked at Nickolas with a small smile. She pulled the covers back and swung her feet out of bed to place on the floor. When pretending to sleep she had taken off her shoes so now she placed her bare feet on the cold floor as she stood up. She squatted down and slid the rug back so the trap door was uncovered once more before opening it and peering down into it. "Its safe to come out now," she smiled as she lent a hand to the pirate who hid below.
Raziel handed the candle to the woman before placing his hands on the side of the trap door and pushed himself up. His head hit the bottom of the bed and he let out a soft groan, but managed to squeeze out from underneath it and onto the floor. He pushed himself to his feet with the use of his hands before beginning to tidy up his clothes. His hands went to his long overcoat that was deep purple and silver in color before working their way over his ruffled shirt and tattered black pants. His eyes, a magnificent blend of purple and blue, scanned the room after surveying his clothes before they rested on the man in the doorway. "Aye, you must be Nickolas," he commented with a small smirk.
"I am, and you are Raziel," hissed Nickolas in return as he glared at the pirate before turning on his heels and walking back out towards the main room to where Kashmir and Herman were laughing away about something. He entered the room and took a seat between the two men, his eyes glaring down the hallway as if waiting for the man and his sister to come out to meet the others.
Nar stood and shook her head before whispering, "he is like this to everyone. Just ignore his attitude, his bark is worse than his bite." She took Raziel's hand and pressed a small kiss on the man's cheek before leading the way out of the room and towards the main room.
Raziel stood a moment with a funny grin on his face before following the woman out of the room. What a siren....so sincere and innocent. Almost too innocent to be true.... he thought to himself as they walked into the main room where three men were waiting at a table. It was almost as if they were waiting to hand out a judgment of him on the spot. Holding his chin high he sat down in the only vacant chair and looked from man to man. The first who caught his eyes was the oddly colored one to his left. He had seen this man before by the docks with his magical stall that moved around as much as he did during the day. Right now the orange haired man seemed to be focusing on something other than him right now, which gave him a small sense of ease. His eyes jumped across the table to the man at his right. A shaggy haired man with dark eyes that stared back at him. He seemed calm throughout his body, which was apparent by the way he sat casually in the chair with his hands resting at the bottom of his wine glass. His face showed no emotion while his eyes seemed interested and collective at the same time. Turning his head slightly he took in the sight of the third man who sat directly across from him. It was the brother Nickolas naturally who sat across from him, though he sat moreso like a tense animal ready to pounce across the table at any moment and start a violent attack. Giving a hard stare back into the piercing cool blue eyes Raziel rested one ankle on top of his knee and leaned back slightly in his chair, letting his hands rest in his lap.
Feeling the tension in the room Nar gave a nervous giggle then smiled at the others. "Guys, this is Raziel O'Hara. Raz, this is Herman Maddox and Kashmir Hellfire," she pointed to each of the men who seemed to be watching her now instead of the pirate. Nervously she added, "a-a-and of course you have already met my brother Nickolas."
"Charmed," Kashmir replied quietly as he looked back to the pirate. So far he had not made any moves to give a good or bad vibe, so he kept his opinion neutral. He did want Nar to be happy and if she believed she was happy with this man then he was willing to try and learn more about him so they could get along.
Herman gave a wide grin as he finally laid eyes on the pirate. "I know you!" he chuckled as he patted the pirate's shoulder with his clean hand. He looked up at Nar and explained, "I spend a good deal of time down at the docks to catch visitors to our shore and show them my magic. Several times this man has passed by me en route to town for more supplies."
Raziel nodded in reply then looked down at the bowl of water with the purple ink and metal shavings in it. "What be ye workin' on der, Herman?" he questioned as he pointed to the water.
The orange haired man laughed and slid the cube to the pirate, "this here cube is believed to have magic within it. The others want me to test it to see if it does. I was just about to test it if you would like to stay and watch." He seemed to get more and more excited the more he talked and his speech seemed to increase with intensity and speed. "It is going to be exciting. I haven't done one of these test in awhile and if it works then I will be known for the great find of testing things for magic!"
Kashmir chuckled at Herman's excitement, but stopped when he looked over at Nickolas, who seemed to still be glaring at Raziel. He raised an eyebrow, then looked over at Nar who was still standing. "Come, have a seat, Nar," he commented softly as he stood up to give the woman his chair. He took up a standing position behind the chair so he had a better look at the bowl and cube.
Smiling Nar came over and sat down in the chair before resting her hands in her lap. She looked up at Kashmir and thanked him warmly before looking between her brother and her lover. The two had gone back to gazing at one another, each with a strong look of disgust on his face. She reached out and touched the two of them, which made them break their gaze to look at her. She just smiled and looked back at Herman to see how the test was going.
Nickolas snorted then returned his glare to Raziel. Raziel slowly turned back to watch Nickolas again. The two sat locked in a stare down for quite some time before finally Nickolas spoke, "what do you want with my sister?" His voice was deep and threatening as if to sway the newcommer to change his mind.
Not backing down, Raziel replied with a smile, "she be the calm wind in me sail, me refuge from the raging storms of law, and the heart of me ocean. Taken part of me like a true pirate she has, and gladly I'd give me whole world to her." He glanced over to Nar, who cheeks seemed to be colored from all the flattery and his smile widened. "What ye be want'n with yer sister?" he shot back as his eyes returned to Nickolas.
Eyes seeming to narrow more than what they had been before, Nickolas growled, "she is my sister. I need no more reason than that." His nails dug into the table where his hands sat and he snorted again out of disgust.
"Guys I've got it!" Herman declared as he jumped up from his seat. His sudden movement caused everyone else in the room to jump slightly. Even Nickolas jumped and almost fell out of his chair from shock. "Look at this!" he stated as he held the cube over the bowl of water. The others watched as the metal filings in the water centered underneath the cube. The purple ink in the water also swirled around the bowl in strange patterns.
"What does that mean?" Nar asked curiously as she peered over the lamp to watch the water. It was quite a curious display of work for she had never seen rocks move in that sort of manner.
"It means it has magic within it, and by the way the ink is acting it has a lot of magic."

Taking the cube back from Herman, Kashmir tumbled it around in his hands a bit as he examined it closer. "You are sure it has magic in it?" he asked the orange haired man. "Having magic be real would go against all logical claims of our time. But there is a hint of belief in me since I am a god."
"A reject of one, to be exact," Nickolas pointed out sharply. "If you were a god there would be no reason for you to be here with us. You would be off in your own little realm doing godly things with other gods and goddesses."
Rolling his eyes Herman restated, "by the way the ink is acting it should contain a good deal of magic within it." He moved the bowl around the lamp to Kashmir's side of the table so he could see it better. "Here, give a look yourself and see."
Kashmir held the cube over the water and moved about to watch the metal filings follow it within the water. "How interesting...." he commented as he pulled the cube back and watched the filings float off in random directions. His eyes drifted from the bowl to the window to see how much of the sun was left.
Upon seeing that all the light of the sun was gone his mouth curled up into a smile as he began to press on the colored parts of the cube which were located at the center of each face. They lit up brighter than before as he pressed them and once he had pressed them all the cube began to move in his hand. Slowly the colored parts sunk into the center of the cube and disappeared as the rest of the cube turned and shifted about. With a snapping noise the cube seemed to crack open and a gave silence fell over the room. A wave of heat was released from the cube that rippled through the room. But nothing else happened from what could be seen.
"What the.....what happened?" Nickolas asked as he looked over expectantly to Kashmir, who stood with an expression of shock and disappointment. The spiky haired male snorted with disgust as he looked back at Herman and accused him for nothing happening, "you said there was magic within it! Well? Where is this magic?"
Herman, who was just as surprised replied with a choak, "I...thought that....maybe it will take time to reveal itself to us. There was an unexplained heat that went through the room. Didn't you feel that?"
"Aye, but that may be from yer lan-turn," Raziel pointed out as he made a motion towards the centralized light on the table. "A wind from outside blew in, me thinks. That could cause yer said heat wave."
"But I felt it!" Herman retorted as he stood up abruptly and placed his hands on the table. "I felt it all through my body, like a fire had been lit inside of me. It was all over and...then went away...."
"I did too...." Kashmir stated as he looked at the others around the table. "Maybe I messed up the combination....I'm....I'm sorry guys...." he admitted as he looked around at all the disappointed faces of his friends. He set the cube down on the table near the bowl of water. Strangely the metal filings in the water moved to the far end of the bowl instead of coming closer to the cube. Kashmir watched it with question and he looked up at Herman who also seemed to be watching.
Breathing in sharply, Nar's hands went to her heart. Her eyes widened and she looked about as the people around her talked. She could not hear what they were saying, only the sound of her quickened heartbeat in her ears. She opened her mouth to say something but found that she could not make a noise either. Slowly she felt herself become dizzy and she began to fall from where she sat in the chair. The ground came up to meet her faster than she thought and she lay staring at the feet of the people at the table. Her breathing was ragged and her heartbeat seemed to just keep on increasing. The pain in her body was nothing like she had felt before, but no matter how much she tried to scream out in pain she found that she could not. Her vision began to blur as she saw movement other than her own, but everything seemed to slowly fade to black.

"NAR!" shouted practically everyone at the table as they all jumped up from their seats and rushed to the woman's side. The group, both awestruck and scared reached out to see if the woman was alright as Kashmir scooped her up into his arms.
"She's.....she's....." Herman stuttered as he reached out with glassy eyes towards the lifeless body with a trembling hand.
"Don't even say it!" Kashmir growled as he stroked her face softly. He denied the facts in his mind but deep down that wrenching feeling was there. He had done this, not on purpose of course, but her death was indirectly because of his careless actions. Now he wondered if it would happen to the others as well. "Maybe she just......somebody get a glass of.....here, help me......" he choked as he felt his own tears betray himself and spiral down his cheeks.
Nickolas touched his sister's hair softly as if to take in what had happened through touch. Never in his life had he felt such a void of all emotions like now as he looked over his sister's peaceful but lifeless body. It was as if a part of him died with her and he would never be the same again. But somebody had to be blamed for this. His sister was in top health; there was no way she would just drop dead so suddenly. His eyes rested on the pirate who was next to him and looked just as emotionless as he did. "You....you did this...." Nickolas growled as his eyes sharpened on the pirate.
Surprised, Raziel's head turned to look at Nickolas. "What in the world are you talking about? Why would I kill her?" he asked with shock in his voice. All form of piracy fell away as he adopted his formal speak.
"Liar! Everything was fine till you showed up," Nickolas roared back as he lashed out at the man beside him. His hands came up and connected with the throat of the pirate as he threw his whole body against the other man and sent the two of them rolling across the floor. Nickolas ended up on top with his hands clamped down on the pirate's throat. "You ******** b*****d! You have no heart, no pity for such a harmless creature just like you have none for your victims!"
Struggling for air, Raziel managed to spit back, "I have no heart? Look at you! Use your head, Nickolas! How could I have killed her? You were watching me the whole time!" He struggled a bit before managing to take a few swings at the man on top of him and roll him off. The two fought against one another, both throwing kicks and punches before rolling about a bit more and Nick coming out victorious once more. This time he had the pirate pinned on the floor, but his body was against the wall so the pirate could not lift one arm. On the other Nick had pressed his knee onto the elbow so it could not bend.
"Guys! Stop it!!!!" Kashmir shouted out as he watched the two fighting men. He dare not step in for fear of receiving the attack himself. Instead he sat with Nar still in his arms and surveyed from afar. "Herman, do something!" he shouted to the orange-haired man who seemed to be frozen in place.
Herman watched the fighting with a hint of fear in his eyes. When addressed by Kashmir he turned to look at the man. His face, drained of all color from everything happening so quickly, took time to show that what had been said had been heard and he got to his feet. He moved towards the two fighting men to break them up, then paused and raised a hand to his head. He felt dizzy all of the sudden and a buzzing sound filled his ears. Blinking he tried to move forward, but stumbled and fell to his knees. He felt sick and his hands clenched his stomach as he squeezed his eyes shut. Gagging his head fell forwards and hit the floor hard. The hit made him lose all control over his body and the remnants of his last meal spewed out onto the floor beneath him. His body tumbled sideways into the mess upon the floor and convulsed a bit before laying still.
"Herman!" shouted Kashmir as he watched the orange-haired man pause, then collapse onto the floor. "HERMAN!!!" he shouted again as the man's head connected with the floor and he vomited all over the place. Watching the body fall and twitch before laying still, the demi-god's eyes widened with shock and he had to catch himself from throwing up as well. "Dear God what is happening? This is madness!"
The two men on the floor had paid no attention to Herman's collapse or Kashmir's screams. They were too caught up in their fight to notice either. "I hope you burn in Hell for all eternity for this, you ********> Nickolas growled fiercely as he applied more pressure to the soft throat of the pirate beneath him. "And I cannot wait to make an example of you for the other pirates."
Raziel struggled and gagged as he tried to shake the larger man. He could feel his life slipping from him as he used his energy in vain, but he fought back as long as he could in hopes that something would happen in his favor. His free hand fondled the side of his clothing for anything that would help before coming upon a small knife. He struggled to draw it from its scabbard, but once it was free he grasped it firmly and jammed it into the leg of his opponent.
Letting out a howl of pain Nick's hand freed from the man beneath him to reach back for the knife. He withdrew it in time to be shoved violently off and onto the floor with the pirate above him now. The knife he had removed clattered across the floor and was out of reach to be of any use. Now the pirate had his hands on the Spartan's throat and was choking him. His eyes looked about for an aid of sorts but found none. His arms had been pinned down in a clever way so they were of no use. But his feet were free to use. Planting them flat on the floor he began to use them to violently thrash his body to buck the other man off.
Feeling the other man writhe beneath him Raziel tried to put as much weight onto the man to keep from falling off. Unfortunately there was nothing to hold onto because the man was not wearing anything other than short pants. After some energy expenditure he lost his balance and fell off the bigger man. Struggling he tried to climb to his feet before the other could climb on him again.
"Nickolas! Raziel! Stop this!" Kashmir cried out as he lay Narssissuss's body softly onto the floor before scrambling towards Herman. He touched the orange-haired man softly as he watched the other two men fight; one for their life and the other in an act of insanity. Both had reason to fight, but both were also driven by internal instincts so they both acted like animals.
Nickolas scrambled after Raziel and grabbed the man's ankles before tugging them out from underneath him. Moving quickly he rolled the pirate over and climbed on top again. Using the man's hair as a grasping point he slammed the man's head into the floor a couple of times to stun him before clamping down on his throat again with his hands. He pressed hard and stared back down at the man beneath him with a crazed look in his eyes. He was determined to kill this man and nothing would stop him from accomplishing this last act of righteousness. "Now die! Die like the animal you are! Die and burn in Hell with your brethren!!!" he hissed as he applied as much pressure on the throat of the man as he could. His fingers sunk deep into the man's skin just to make sure that he had a good grip. This time he would not let go no matter what happened.

Plucking up courage the demi-god raced over to where the two other men were fighting on the floor. He grabbed Nickolas's arm and pulled as hard as he could to get the man's grip to loosen. Tugging hard he managed to free one hand from the death clamp around the pirate's throat and he looked into the face of a crazed man. "Nick.....Nick stop....."
The Spartan let his grip go as he sat upright on top of the other man. Looking down at the pirate he could tell that the man was dead as well. The struggles had stopped, but Nickolas had an inkling that this man was not quite dead. He slapped the man across the face hard, but got no response. His body sagged as he thought back to his sister and his head turned to look across the room at her body. The void which he thought he could satisfy with revenge was still there, and he felt so alone all of the sudden. His eyes landed on Herman's body and he slowly crawled towards the other man who had been dead a few minutes now. "Herm....Herm....." he whispered as he touched the man's orange hair softly.
"Dead too," Kashmir whispered as he watched Nickolas reach out and touch Herman's body. "And we are next, I would assume...." he added sadly as he came closer to Nickolas. This whole thing of death had to be caused by opening the cube. Both Nar and Herman had died so innocently and then Raziel by Nickolas' hand. It was only logical for it to come to both him and Nick as well.
Nickolas stood and moved away from Herman. He went to the counter and opened a drawer. From within he drew out a blade of sorts and held it firmly in his hand. "My life is in darkness now...." he muttered as he slid down the cabinet to a sitting position on the floor. He held the knife firmly in his hand as he looked at his other wrist. "I feel sick.....my head spins and reels with dark thoughts of blood and destruction.....Why have I been left in this void of nothingness? Why must I be so alone in this life.....and left to die like all the rest?"
Wide-eyed Kashmir crept across the floor towards the slumped figure of Nickolas. "Nick....Nickolas I am here....you are not alone....please, just put the knife down...." he purred gently as he slowly made his way towards the Spartan.
Shaking his head the man mumbled incoherently to himself as the tears rolled down his hot cheeks. Slowly the knife came closer to his wrist and was pressed deep into the skin. He hissed in pain as he drug the blade along and watched the blood begin to pour from the wound. He switched the hand that the blade was in and did the same to his other wrist and sat watching the blood ooze out of his body.
"Nick!" Kashmir exclaimed as he got up and rushed towards the man. All heed of slow and calm movements towards the insane man had faded with the sight of him hurting himself. Before he realized what he was doing the man's head snapped up and the knife was accurately thrown into the demi-god's chest. He stumbled and grabbed the knife to withdraw it as he watched Nick.
"You have murdered me....." he growled upon seeing the man with the bloodied knife. Slowly he rose to his feet, his bloodied hands clenched into fists. A red haze covered his field of vision as he charged towards the demi-god.
Kashmir screamed at the sight and dropped the knife before turning to flee from the man. He scrambled across the room and lept over the table to run down the hall if needed. As he passed over the table he grabbed the black cube and stuffed it deep into his pocket.
Crazed the bloodied man gave chase to the other living creature in the room like a large carnivore to its next meal. But his aim was off and he slid in the vomit from Herman and fell forward in a slide. Raziel's knife lay waiting and embedded itself into the lower abdomen of the Spartan. His eyes widened and he spat blood out of his mouth. His body was becoming weak with the blood loss so he resorted to dragging himself across the floor after Kashmir. "You can't kill me you ******** am a Spartan!" he roared with anger as he glared at the man not too far from him. But before he could drag himself any further his head fell forward and the blood pooled beneath his body from his many wounds.
"But I didn't......I didn't Nick...." Shivering Kashmir slid down the nearby wall and looked out over all of his friends. Never had he imagined such a thing happening, and now he regretted ever opening the cube. He trembled with fear, knowing that his own end was coming soon. Each of his friends had died in a different way from the other so he knew not what to expect. His body spoke to him softly and it made him almost scream aloud. Sleep, Kashmir. Just sleep and be with your friends, it told him. Not even meaning to the demi-god lay down on the floor and looked out at the rest of his companions. His eyes softly closed and he prayed that he would wake up in his bed and none of this will have been real. Surprisingly sleep came easy enough and soon the god was dreaming of far off places.
But a dark figure appeared in his dream. It glided along towards him and spoke in a booming voice, "Kashmir Hellfire, you have been condemned to perish like those around you. Goodbye, son of Death." He reached out and from his hands ignited bolts of lightning that surrounded his body. He cried out in pain and writhed about, feeling all of the power from the electricity course through his body. It was the most painful thing he had ever felt, and once the bolts had stopped coming he twitched uncontrollably where he lay. He lifted his head gently to look up at the man and he hissed, "just kill me quickly! I don't want to suffer."
"Oh, but you will suffer as long as I want you to," the man boomed as more lightning flicked from his fingers and lashed out at the man on the ground. Again the power coursed through Kashmir's blood and he cried out again. This pain was worse than before, but it stopped yet again and left the demi-god convulsing on the floor. "You d**k! If you are going to kill me then kill me!"
"Fine, but you will not find peace in death, boy," the man retorted as he seemed to power up with the lightning before unleashing several large bolts towards the boy. Screaming in sheer pain Kashmir squeezed his eyes shut as his body thrashed about without him even telling it to. His heart beat unevenly as he contorted himself to try and stop the pain, but it just kept coming. Finally it stopped and he lay violently thrashing about. He continued to wail from the burns on his skin where the lightning had licked about upon it and from the aching feeling of his organs being burned on the inside as well. He slowly opened his eyes and watched the dark man turn and begin to leave. Closing them again Kashmir could feel the life beginning to slip from his body, and he welcomed it as it came.

Part 2 Awakening
From what could be seen it was dark out once again. Somewhere beyond a dog of sorts called out into the night, and was answered by the deep hooting of an owl not too far away. Gently moving extremities gave off the feeling that the surroundings were cool and wet. Slowly opening her eyes Nar was met with an acute darkness that she had not experienced before. She found herself lying on her back face up, a position she did not recognize herself being in when she was last conscious. Did I pass out? What caused all that pain? Where is everyone else? she thought to herself as she suddenly sat up to look about.
Being met by a heavy stone slab of sorts Nar’s rattled body fell back into a lying position and her hand raced to her forehead. She could feel the blood begin to flow out of her self-inflicted wound and she groaned softly. But as soon as the pain began it faded and when she removed her hand to look at the blood she noticed two things. One, despite the lack of light in the place she was she could see the vibrant red color of her own blood. The second was that she watched the blood magically disappear into her hand. “Woah….” she thought aloud as she blinked several times to make sure this new phenomenon was real. Remembering that she had crashed into something hard above her she reached up and pressed her hand against a cool slab of rock. Where am I? she thought as she pressed hard on the rock with both hands and felt it begin to move. She pushed it to one side and was met with a lighter darkness from before, but it was still pretty dark. Her eyes focused on the room she was in better than she had first thought and she found it quite bland of color and structure. In fact it looked like a giant block of stone much like she imagined herself being in as well. Sitting up now that the stone had been pushed off and onto the floor beside her she got a better look at the room and found it to be oddly familiar. Am I in…..did I….what the….. her thoughts raced as she climbed out of the stone box and rushed over to the only other stone structure in the room. Sliding back the lid quickly she gazed down at the figure of her brother. He looked so peaceful as he lay stone still within.
“Nick! Nick, get up! You can’t be….there has to be some mistake!” she shouted as she shook the man within the stone structure. She watched her brother’s eyes open suddenly and a shocked expression came across his face. Sighing she gave her brother an odd sort of hug from where he lay and let soft tears fall. “Oh thank god you are alive….I thought you were dead! Listen, we are in some sort of burial ground. What happened?” she stood back up and rubbed her eyes to remove some tears.
Nickolas sat up slowly and touched his stomach. The last thing he remembered was seeing his sister’s dead body on the ground. “I….I do not remember….I watched you die before my eyes….and that is all I remember….” He whispered as he looked up at his sister.
“What? I died? But how?”
“Beats me, it was rather sudden. I thought at first you had passed out, but Kashmir confirmed that you were dead. Then I thought it was….” He paused as his head turned to look around the room and once spotting the entrance he lept with great ease out of his coffin and headed in that direction. “Where did that ******** get to? I want to kick his a** so bad….” He growled as he reached the entrance and began to pull it open.
Watching her brother Nar followed slowly and questioned, “Who, Nick? Who are you talking about?” She stood beside him looking out into the foggy graveyard. It seemed to come right out of a scary story and it sent a chill down her spine. She looked down at her body to find herself in very light weight white clothing. No wonder the surrounding areas felt super cold. Not realizing it she shivered and huddled up against her brother for warmth.
Looking at his sister Nickolas took a step to the side so she was no longer touching him before stepping out into the foggy graveyard and looking about. “That Raziel guy….he better not have left….I will kill him for sure if he did….” He growled deeply as he took off at a fast trot in the direction of the other mausoleums. He paused to listen to the world around him and found that despite sleeping in a stone box for god knows how long, he was full of bristling energy. But as he paused to view his surroundings he heard the sound of someone shouting in one of the other mausoleums. He turned his head and headed in that direction and went to the door before wrenching it open and stepping inside.

“GOD DAMNIT LET ME OUT OF THIS BOX!!!!” screamed the demi-god as he pounded on the lid of the coffin with his fists in an attempt to dislodge it. Someone had set heavy vases of flowers on top of the coffin so it would not budge as easily as the others. He prayed that someone would be in the area and could let him out before he ran out of air to breathe and suffocated. His mind was wild with the thoughts of what had happened not too long ago and now being in this box he assumed that because he died in his dream he had seemed dead in real life. Someone must have come and found the bodies and moved them to the graveyard for burial. He wondered where the others were and what had become of their bodies.
Moving quickly to the coffin Nickolas began to knock the pots off the top of the coffin, causing them to shatter on the floor, before sliding the lid back to let Kashmir out. “God damn, you too? What the hell happened?” he spat as he held out a hand to help the demi-god out of his coffin and onto the floor.
Stumbling a bit Kashmir leaned against his coffin and stared dumbly at Nickolas. Of all people this was not one he expected to let him out of the coffin. “Nickolas?” he questioned as he took the wrist of the man and looked where the deep incisions had been performed by the man himself. All that remained in the place was very light scars. “How the….but you….you died!” he exclaimed as he looked back at the man again. Movement in the doorway drew his attention to the woman who had run to join up with her brother. “NAR!” he exclaimed as he pushed past Nickolas and scooped up his sister in a hug. He held the smaller woman tightly and pressed his face deep into her dark curls. “Thank the heavens! Where are the others? Are they alive as well?” he asked as he let the girl stand on her own feet again and stroked her hair softly.
Blinking, Nar looked from Kashmir to Nickolas and then back to Kashmir. “What are you talking about? He died? I died? The others alive?” she asked with a confused voice as she kept looking between the two of them. “I….I don’t understand…..”
Kashmir sighed and moved so he was leaning in the doorway for support. His whole body felt weak for whatever reason, but his mind was at work and he addressed Nar’s questions. “Everyone….that night….they all died. One by one….each in a different way….” He swallowed hard and ran a shaky hand through his hair as he relived the events in his head. “You just dropped dead after the cube was opened. Then Nickolas became enraged and attacked Raziel. Herman became sick and died, then Nickolas strangled Raziel to death after being stabbed in the leg with a knife. Then he took a knife from the kitchen and….and…and….” he stuttered and became quiet as he looked back over at Nickolas. The man’s face was white with fear, but Kashmir knew not what he was thinking, or if he remembered any of this at all.
“And what, Kash?” Nickolas prodded as he came closer to the other two and stood next to his sister. He had no idea what was going on, only that there was a deep felt rage for the pirate. In his mind he still blamed him for the death of his sister in the first place, but to know that he had finally ended his life put the Spartan at ease with that rage. He cared not that his sister was living right before his eyes, but if she was alive then maybe the others were as well. All of this was so strange to him, but he wanted to know what he did after killing the pirate.
“You….you did and said things…things I don’t want to repeat….not in present company. I tried to stop you, but then you turned on me and came after me with the knife. I remember never feeling so scared in all my life as I ran around the room and down the hall to get away. I tripped and fell, then turned to watch you slip in the mess Herman made and…..and fall on Raziel’s knife that had been dropped during the fight. Then….I remember dozing off in the hallway…..and next thing I know I woke up in there,” he pointed to the coffin weakly before he let his hand drop to his side and he slid down to a sitting position on the floor. He was not ready to relay his own experience with death to the others, but he wondered why he could remember but the others could not.
Nar’s hands clasped over her mouth as she looked at her brother wide-eyed with fear. “Nick….you….you…..how could you!” she cried out, feeling her cheeks hot with anger and tears beginning to form at the corner of her eyes. “You are a heartless creature! You didn’t even know Raziel! Didn’t even take time to get to know him, and minutes after my death you killed him. I…..” she paused as her brow furrowed and her eyes changed to a red tint. “I hate you!” she shouted as she turned and ran off away from the two, heading through the graves and into the mist.
“Nar!” Kashmir called out as he tried to get up to follow her. He groaned from feeling weak and just sat in the doorway of the mausoleum. “Nick…please…I did not mean to….” He mumbled, feeling bad that he had made Nar upset at her own brother.
“It’s alright, Kashmir,” Nickolas interrupted as he watched his sister run off into the fog. “I may not remember doing it, but I feel better knowing that he is in a grave somewhere like all the rest of us. And when I find him I am going to give him a piece of my mind.”
Kashmir looked up at the man who stood before him and sighed, “but why, Nick? You killed him, isn’t that good enough? Do you really have to start something with him?” He shook his head and let his hands rest in his lap. Feeling something hard on one side of his leg he reached deep into his pocket and withdrew the cube. Only it was not a cube now, but a flat plate with writing on it. The writing was legible and he began to read aloud, “Welcome to the life beyond life. There are 3 main rules you must follow to survive here, but the rewards are far greater than you could ever imagine. Rule 1: Never go out in the sun for any reason. Rule 2: Feed on the blood of other creatures, but be discrete about it. Attention is very bad. Rule 3: Practice your abilities, but do so in private. Humans do not understand and will get suspicious if they catch you.” He looked up at Nickolas and raised an eyebrow, “what the heck is that supposed to mean?”
Nickolas shrugged and squatted down to look over the tablet to reread what the demi-god had read. “Hmmmm…..it is quite interesting….maybe we will find out when the others get here…..wherever they could be….” He mumbled as he looked out into the mist to watch for any other signs of life. It was really strange to see mist. Normally it was a bad sign that supernatural things were happening, and this was definitely a supernatural thing that was happening. People do not just die and become alive again the next day normally. So why had they?
