I want to try pixel art, but I'm not sure how it would come out when I had trouble with this alone.

hello. Good start, and nice wings. no offense, but I wouldn't pay for that. In my opinion, the lips are to big and prominent. When useing a program like that you need to increase the resolution, use layers (in this order:line are[generally black], highlights or lighting, base color and then background) and on color layers use blur, especially goussen (or how ever you spell it) blur. It just takes time and make sure your layers are translucent background or they wont work. hope this helped and keep at it. wink
