Alright like the title says, I'm debating whether to become (nothing is set in stone, I know) a Navy SAR (Search and Rescue) or a Coast Guard AST (Aviation Survival Technician), aka Rescue Swimmers. I really want to hear y'alls opinions on which branch you think I should join and why that branch in particular.
I'm aware that to become either of these it will be a challenge and that there is the possibility of me failing, however I am training hard to "ensure" that I can become one.

search and rescue in my opinion. I would take helping others, whether they be soldiers or civilians, over survival technician. and if you love it, you'll succeed. just pick the one you feel is right and there isnt any way you can fail. or as my sgt says: "Suck it up and move your a**! You wanna be in the military? Then you better goddamn finish what you started!"

Thanks for the response. Personally I'm just looking at becoming a rescue swimmer whether it be from either branch, I am somewhat leaning towards the Navy due to my family having a lot of history for serving in that branch. But if I went Coast Guard I'd be the first person in my family to serve in that branch; I have family that has served in every branch except CG. Do you have any idea where SARs are typically stationed? From what I've learned ASTs serve mostly in Alaska or Florida.

no sorry, im a marines brat, and i didnt really look up any specific details on SAR's, but i do someone who is an SAR. i could ask him about it if you want
