User ImageStreaked-Sky walked along the well-worn path, sniffing flowers and chasing bugs along the way. She was headed towards a certain pond that was extra-especially reflective, and showed her extra-especially pretty fur.

The day was a really beautiful one, just like her. The grass and leaves seemed more vibrant, and the air smelled sweet. The walk to the pond was interrupted only by a short bug chase.

Arriving at the pond, she took a quick drink, nibbled some leaves, and laid down beside the water.

It was time to stare at her favorite thing...her.

User ImagePainting had began early today, as early as the first rays of sunlight hit the Swamp. There had been many images floating about Webweave's mind, many ideas and stories that had to be made into drawings, or at least, that's the way she felt about them. Several hours she had spent on her painting and finally stepped back to take a look at what had happened to the cave wall.

A quick nod of the head and then she set about cleaning up. She carefully picked up all of her feathers and put the dirty ends into the turtle shell and then picked up the turtle shell. Wandering out of her cave, she began humming to herself as she made her way out to a nearby pond. Not really aware of her surroundings, as she was still concentrating on all of the thoughts milling about inside of her head, Webweave strode out to the edge of the water, sat down and began washing her feathers. She picked one up by the stalk and then dipped it into the pond's water and stirred it about, this way and that, causing ripples to scatter across the surface.

How rude, thought Streaked Sky, as she tried to find the source of the ripple. There she was, minding her own business, when everything got distorted and ugly.

And then she saw the beautiful doe that was cleaning feathers across from her, causing the ripples. While Streaked-Sky didn't like to interrupt the musings of the beautiful (such as herself), she was sure this doe could find another area to clean those feathers.

This was her pond, anyway.

Carefully getting up and walking around the pond, Streaked-Sky approached the doe and asked, "Excuse me, but could you clean those feathers somewhere else? I was just trying to catch my reflection, as this is a good reflecting-pond."

Who could refuse a request like that! The doe should obviously understand...wouldn't she gaze at herself too?

The doe could hear the other approaching before she spoke, but she chose not to react until she was spoken to, at which time her hears swiveled first and then she turned her head round to look at the stranger asking her to stop.

The doe standing next to her was pink and the lightest color of blue, mixed together to imitate a starry night that had taken on bright hues. She was a pretty doe, that much was true, but why would she have to catch her reflection so urgently?

Politely she replied, "I just have two more feathers. I won't take long, dear." Even as she spoke, she had put down the first feather and picked up the second. This wasn't unreasonable, she thought. Though to be more respectful, she decided to strike up a conversation as she washed the second feather. "It is a lovely pond, though. Looks very peaceful to me, with many beautiful songbirds dipping in and out of the sky here, twittering their catchy little tunes." She stole a side-ways glance at the doe as she nearly had the second feahter clean.

This doe was worried about cleaning feathers in a reflecting pond? What kind of crazy doe was she? Streaked-Sky seemed to be stumbling into those quite often lately.

"Why would you bother looking at songbirds," she replied, "when you could look at yourself? At least you are pretty...there are some kimeti who should just stay under a log!" She chuckled at her last thought, and looked approvingly at the other, waiting for the proper response.

If she wasn't going to look at herself, she could just look at something almost there.
PostPosted: Fri Jan 08, 2010 5:36 pm

"Why look at the songbirds? Well, I suppose because they glide through the blue sky with unmatchable ease, and they're just pretty to look at. Though I suppose one could spend time looking at one's reflection instead. Wouldn't that get boring after a time? One doesn't change very quickly, while there's such a variety of songbirds to watch and follow." By then, she had finished with her second feather, shook it out and placed it next to the other clean one. She picked up the last feather and dipped it into the water in the same manner as the others, keeping her gaze on the other doe, curious how she would answer.

Streaked-Sky sputtered. Why wouldn't you want to look at yourself?

"But, we are so much more beautiful! I enjoy to look at myself through the day, when lighting changes, and when the reflections are different..." She sighed, loosing track in her thoughts of her.

Curious.... This doe seemed to be so full of herself that she could stare at her own reflection alllll day long. Webweave finished with her last feather and then replied calmly, "I suppose so. And you can do this for more than a day? After going through one cycle of looking upon your own reflection, to start it all over again in favor or watching something new? Don't get me wrong, your coat is lustrous and looks like someone has stolen a bit of the sky and infused it into your fur..." She figured if she complimented the doe, she was more likely to receive an answer to her questions.

Was this doe simple? The compliment didn't go amiss (but who could help complimenting her!)

"Well, every day is different, you see! And then the seasons change, or I find a lovely flower to put behind my ear..."

Streaked-Sky paused to think about it. "Don't you look at yourself? You are almost as beautiful as I am!"

A little surprised at such an adamant character, Webweave's brow raises a little but she replies "Well, yes, I look at myself, I catch my reflection sometimes and take a few moments to see, but to spend hours upon hours... I fear I do not understand. Well, I understand of course, but I don't. Haven't you ever heard the story of the kimeti by the name of Narcissus?"

Webweave thought this was a good story to bring up, sure that the other doe would not be bothered by such things as lessons, and so wondered if she would be able to knock some sense into such an air-headed, if pretty, doe.

A story about some old kimeti who was probably ugly and lonely?

"No, I haven't. I don't spend much time listening to stories...they get boring. And the kimeti are usually ugly and unloved."

Talk about a scary story!
PostPosted: Fri Jan 08, 2010 8:01 pm

"Well then maybe this story will capture your attention," She paused for a moment to adjust her posture into one that was a little more comfortable. She sat upright and lay her ears down so that she would not focus on the sounds of the Swamp around them.

"There was once a buck, a long time ago that wandered the swamp as any other kimeti. But he was different than the rest. He was the most beautiful buck one could ever lay eyes on. His mane was long and luscious, blond I think. His coat was the palest white imaginable, and it was always spotlessly clean. He was very particular, you see."

She paused to see if she had captured the other doe's interest and should continue.

The most beautiful buck ever? He would have been the perfect match...ugh, too bad that he was born forever ago.

"I'm sure he had a lot of does trying to be his mate." she responded to the pause in the story.

This was the kind of buck that Streaked-Sky dreamed about!

PostPosted: Fri Jan 08, 2010 8:49 pm

Oh good, she still had her attention.

"Well this buck would wander about the swamp, looking for nothing other than a reflective surface to stare longingly into his own reflection. And whenever he would speak to others, it would always be about himself. As he wandered the swamp, he was incredibly mean to any whom he chanced upon.

Does threw themselves at him, for the chance that he would even look back at them, but none were so fortunate. Not that these does did not deserve attention, some were beautiful too, but Narcissus decided that none could meet his own divine beauty. Do you know what happened to him?"

Streaked-Sky listened to the story. Of course, this Narcissus would fall for her, but she was probably one of the prettiest kimeti ever.

"Do I know what happened to him? Well, of course not! I've never heard the story!"

Honestly. Streaked-Sky ran into so many kimeti that we just so simple.
