A big stigma attached to the military is that its members are dumb, and total dead beats without anything better to do.

I don't know about you guys, but it rather upsets me. I'm one of the smartest people in my school. I take the hardest classes, I do everything the hard way because I like it that way and do it to the best of my ability. I love challenges and can't stand easy classes or anything easy really.

But also want to be in the military.

I want to do something with my life even after that. I have plans to get an education whilst in the military to use after I am honorably discharged (Best scenario, folks), probably to be a doctor of medicine.
Truthfully, I hate it when I hear people say that we're a bunch of dumb hicks, parading around in camo with guns and we haven't a clue what we're doing.

Because we're not.
We're all people just like the ones who call us dumb (Don't take it the bad way, just meaning they're flesh and bone people).

But we've got many things they don't have.

Starting with being open minded enough to see what we can do for our country, ourselves, and each other.
In fact, its a higher calling and a much harder road.
If you've been through it, are going through it, or are going to through it...
its tough.
And its amazing so many of us can serve.
Its an amazing opportunity that many of the cynics missed out on.

This is why I want to be in the Army.

So tell me, what are your thoughts on this?
Do you think its unfair people talk about us as being dumb?
And your experience, if you care to share it, is welcomed.

Sweetie dont join the Army I promise its the lowest paid, MOST of the people are shitbags, they dont care about you, and the ******** you over really bad.

Me and my husband are in a BIG predicament thankis to people in the Army lieing to us.

there are though ALOT of dumb people in the Army I can tell you this with great confidence. My husband has to deal with it all the time, hes a smart guy and it drives him insane. X_X

Go to the Air Force they take GOOD care of you. They are pampered and get paid a s**t ton more than the Army people.

I find it funny that they say that, and yet, the government puts so much money into training us to be well educated professionals. Then, after my military career is all said and done, I'll not only have the college credits set aside from the training "pipe line" I'm going through, but that post 9/11 G.I. bill is going to be waiting for me to further my studies.

Really.. I'd say the majority of service members are better trained and better educated than most civilians. There are of course, a few bad eggs here and there, I won't deny that.

If you look at just base pay, all the services have the same pay grades.

my opinion, if anyone wants to hear it, is let them say whatever they want. let them rant and insult and shout. because one, we can sound off louder than any of them. We can go raving for longer. We can fire back immediately, and not just with words. and when we are serving our country and protecting them, let them see that we are the ones to be thanked. They're idiots plain and simple if you ask me but they'll realize they're making a mistake. whether it be an epiphany or in a time of war

Everywhere you go in life, there are going to be morons. Unfortunately there are ignorant people that label a whole group based off a single episode with one or two individuals. It doesn't matter what branch you go into, there will be amazing and smart ones, and then there will be the de-de-de's. Everyone joins for different reasons. We all come from all different walks of life. It is stupid for anyone to put a blanket statement on anything, especially the military. Like anything, it's what you make of it. You will have good days and bad days, just take it all in and learn from it. Don't listen to people that bash the military. Chances are, they are jealous because you are a part of something greater than yourself. You are serving your country with honor and dignity. What are they doing with their lives? Have pride in all that you do and disregard the garbage you will encounter.
