Dagmar Thorsen, commonly known by the nickname 'Aggie', age eighteen, former student at Barren Pines College and until recently recuperating from the events at said school in the hospital was Starting At A New School, capital letters fully and completely intended.

It was terrifying. It was horrible. It was why she was currently stuck on the sidewalk in a fairly abandoned part of town. You see, Aggie had not actually managed to get to the actual school, courtesy of a bad case of nervous jitters (which she had, admittedly, worked herself into by imagining every possible and awful scenario that was bound to occur to the New Girl, up to and including getting expelled for having sub-par looks compared to the other kids. No-one ever said it had to logical).

She was probably late by now. She really didn't care, wishing herself back to the hospital and it's mindnumbing boredom or at Crystal with Imo, who'd been very supportive and done her very best to cheer up her friend.
It hadn't helped, obviously.

Oh gosh, what if they found out about her weird hobbies? What if they made fun of her for being a small town girl? What if they asked about her last school? Oh, that'd be awful and Aggie couldn't even begin to think of a good way to answer that question. But surely they all knew, right? They'd have read the newspapers, or something like that, and she wouldn't have to explain!

Actually, that was nearly as bad as having to explain what had happened at Barren Pines, wasn't it? Because this way they'd already have made their mind up, and then instead of awkward questions there'd be awkward silences and she really couldn't decide what was worse.

Winter wonderland, pah. The snow that the locals had joyously wished for Christmas had stubbornly stuck around, slowly degrading in to a gritty brown sludge. It had been bad all week, but with the rain the night before it had turned in to a disgusting street soup, a dish that the little gray cat was NOT looking forwards to when she finished her mission. Cleaning oneself was highly self sufficient, which suited Astraea infinitely, but it tasted NASTY. She should take a holiday. They all take a holiday, Negaverse included, who in their right minds wanted to play cackling maniac in this sort of weather.

The girl she was looking for was in front of her, and Astraea leaped down off the concrete wall, wincing as her paws hit the soaked ground. Cars were whizzing past, throwing more of the awful stew all over the sidewalk. The girl looked meek and confused and Astraea cursed all the gods she knew for yet another one of the I AM CONFUSED!!! TALKING CAT!!!! EVIL???? I CAN'T PRONOUNCE THINGS!!!

She was miserable.

"There is evil in the world, and you are one of the chosen few able to fight it so help me God," Astraea finished acidly as an SUV showered her with the icy drudgery.

Neither noticed that behind them a monster was forming itself out of the ice and gristle of the street.

"Um." So, obviously she had started hallucinating (Aggie didn't actually think that her mind was capable of making up a voice as positively dripping with venom as the cat's was, though) or someone was playing a prank on her, because in front of her sat a very wet, very angry looking stray cat. And it. had. just. talked. to. her.

Or maybe to the ether in general, but she was the only one on the sidewalk. Barring the talking cat. Who could, of course, also be insane - presumeably it wasn't impossible for talking cats to be crazy buggers too. Who knew, maybe it was the norm for them?

"Um," she emphasised, just in case the slush covered cat had missed it the first time, "oh, gosh, what?"

Astraea looked up at the girl with slack shoulders, looking as defeated as a wet, frozen, muddy cat who hated the world could. Which was really, really defeated. Couldn't someone throw her a bone more than once in a blue moon-- thank god for Proxima, now THERE was a girl who took charge-- and hand her some teenagers whose vocabulary involved something more than "um".

Well, beggars can't be choosers. Astraea jumped in to the air, spun once, and then pretended she hadn't totally just slipped on the ice by holding the ridiculous pose she had slipped in to. Settling herself, Astraea pushed the purple and blue pen towards the young girl.

"You are Sailor Vanadis. Van. A. Dis. Pronunciation is quite important, please get it right. Van. A. DIS," Astraea's cat face made all sorts of faces that cat faces shouldn't make and looked nothing like how a human face should make those sounds, "Now, you go on and say it and we will both pray to our particular choice of gods that something will happen, alright?"

Astraea was about as reassuring as a ghost. Probably about as reassuring as the Youma that picked her up, inquisitively, by her tail.

"Oh for <******** SAKE, transform, now!"

Aggie was, at her heart, an obedient girl. The sort of girl that would, though stunned into silence by a talking cat (currently the object of interest to one not-quite-entirely-white-anymore snow monster) and it's crazy declarations, pick up a suspicious object and say the words if someone asked her to.

She might have been happier about it if it'd been nicer asking, though.

"S-sailor, um, Van. A. Dis? Sailor Vanadis?" She was pretty sure she'd gotten the pronounciation and the praying part right, too. "Uh, d-do you need any help? I c-can call the police. Or the fire department."

Or the ASPCA, whichever was applicable when a talking cat was being manhandled by a youma.
