heart Yes, thanks to some advice from the GGE's best and a handy bit of cash, I was able to adopt this homeless Mossberg and give her a good home. Part of the Mossberg 500 Field/Security Combo which includes a 28" vent rib barrel with "modified choke" and an 18.5" cylinder bore barrel, and a spare polymer pistol grip. Out the door for around $350, which I believe, is a steal. Picked up a box of Winchester and Remington 00 Buck and some Winchester rifled slugs (hope those were the right kind lol ) along with a shotgun cleaning kit and a cheap-o padded case. Not much I can say about this gun, having had it for all of... three hours? Hope to get to shoot it real soon. Seems really solid, though the foregrip wiggles a little bit. That worries me slightly. The spring makes more noise than I though it would when inserting shells (well, just snap caps so far, but same idea) though I think that's normal. Barrels can be changed in about 20 seconds, but I don't see myself doing a lot with the 28" barrel any time soon. I'll have to come up with a good way to store it. I had it in my mind that I'd put some polymer parts on, but I really love the wood. Just wish the foregrip was a little more trimmed. It's a tad bulky as it is. But that's just more to love... Also Amazon's release day delivery actually works! I got Bayonetta in earlier, and should be enjoying that thoroughly tonight. mrgreen

Nice! Hope it shoots as good as it looks. It sounds like a really good deal, especaily with the 2 barrels. If you mean it clicks when you put a shell in the magazine, yes that is normal. A little bit of play in the foregrip is also allowable in most guns. Finally, as for the slugs, if you are using a smoothbore barrel, rifled slugs are the way to go. If you are using a rifled barrel, use sabots. I would reccomend trying a few different brands to see what kind you your gun likes best.

I mean the foregrip has some amount of play from side to side on the bares it moves to work the extraction and all that. It doesn't seem like it would hurt anything, I just expected every part to be nearly immovable. On different loads, that's why I went with two brands of buckshot--to see which flavor is best. I was pretty sure rifled slugs were the right kind for the cylinder bore barrel, and I'm glad I was right. Wasn't expecting them to be so cheap, though. 15 rounds for $8 or $9. I thought slugs were supposed to be expensive.

Sabot slugs are a buck a round or more, brenneke slugs are closer to a buck a round than fosters, but fosters are still reasonably cheap. It still surprises the hell out of me how cheap #7 is. I mean, goddamn. Cheapest plinking gun this side of a .22. $350? Seriously? I'd expect to pay that much for just the two barrels!

I don't hunt or shoot skeet (and the skeet I HAVE shot has always been with short-barreled cylinder-bore guns), so the higher capacity was perfect for me. Compared to the 30"-barreled SxS 20g I was using before, it's downright tiny, too!

Okay, so it was sabot slugs I was thinking of as being expensive. That explains it. But yeah, I love this gun. Super deal and it feels so solid and powerful. It has that heft that, without being heavy, it just feels good. I guess it's just because I've never fired anything bigger than 9mm.
I'm in for a treat, I know. biggrin
Thinking about putting on that pistol grip for a while, just to see how it handles. But right now I'm maybe too lazy to mess with it. And I've heard something of the screws on guns having wide channels and needing special gunsmith's screwdrivers to be worked without marring said channels.

No pistol grip. ESPECIALLY when it's just the pistol grip.
Don't discount reduced-recoil loads. Through physics, they tend to pattern tighter than their full-house counterparts (less pellet deformation--plated pellets also prevent that), and your shoulder will love you for it. Ammunition TO GO has some good deals on reduced-recoil loads. And fairly good deals on Federal FliteControl loads, too.
Now, go out there, and shoot it until you're up to your tits in hulls. All kinds of ammo.

I would have just put it on for the lulz, not to shoot it like that. I decided not to anyway. Didn't want to move the monster of a screw holding the stock on.
I saw your ammo links earlier in my "which gun?" thread and favorited them. When I've got the spare cash, I'll buy a bulk set, and probably pick up a different load type at Wal Mart every time I'm by there. Try everything and see what Dahlia (and my shoulder) likes.
Also, this gun is putting a lot of nicks and gouges into the rims of my snap caps. I hope no aluminum is shaving off between parts.

uryu ishida Shouldn't. You have aluminum snap caps? Yeah. They were the best-reviewed ones on Midway USA, so I went with them.
