Did anyone else go to it?
(They were in Jacksonville last weekend. I dunno where else they have travelled.)
I thought it was interesting, and full of very beautiful horses.
(My favorite was the one Friesian they used.<3)
But I can't say I was THAT amazed by it.
Definitely worth seeing.
But I'm curious as to what you guys think about the show?
(I took some pictures with my phone since my dad got us such great seats. We actually got to walk backstage and look at them. Couldn't meet them though.)

A friend of mine rode for them for a little over a year I think. She enjoyed it, and liked the horses, but got tired of the traveling and the quick turn-over of employees. The show was fun, but I wasn't that impressed by the dressage. However, if it's bringing more awareness of our sport to the common public (which is who the show is more aimed at, since they have demonstrations like "This is the trot. It has two beats") I'm all for that!

That's so cool! I'd love to ride for them one day. :p
But I know what you mean about the dressage…
I'm not all that familiar with it, but it seemed to me that it was very basic… (Though I'm not that sure. xD I don't know much about dressage.)
I got a bit bored after a while because they kept doing the same thing over and over again… :/
But it was fun!
I liked the little demonstrations. ^^

Ruby has been SO dirty lately.
Her butt is black. o_o
I don't think I could keep a nearly pure white horse clean!
I can barely keep my flee bitten gray clean!

I didn't go to the show in Jax but I have gone to the shows at Tempel Farms. The Tempel's were the first one's to import Lipizzans. Just so happens, I grew up about 30 min away. We were invited to lots of trail rides on the property too. They had a to-die-for cross country course that ran thru a few farms in the area. More like a fox hunting course I suppose. biggrin Some of my friends have owned the retired Lip's and they are very sweet horses....depending on what strain you get. There is one strain that is very high strung, and super aggresive. I think these are the ones they bred specificly for war. The others are sweet and willing --- more of a show pony. I'm never impressed w/these horse dancing shows that travel the US. The Dressage is bleh and the horses seem to know where all the *marks* are. Some want to just do their job and get back to the stalls. OP --- did you happen to go to the Black Stallion LIteracy thing just before Christmas?

It's so cool that you grew up near there!
My mom wishes that we could afford to buy one of the retiring ones. It makes sense that some are high strung, others sweet. We couldn't go near them backstage because they didn't want us to get hurt from lack of predictability.
It kind of looked like the riders enjoyed it more than the horses. Some of them looked bored.
I actually never heard of that. xD
Was it in/near Jax?

My dad took me to see them when they came around in our area. We didn't know that cameras were allowed but the horses were breath taking and the riders had such skill*dies* I wish I could do that but I doubt I'm going any further than my horses and some dressage and jumping later in life. But hey you never know...

please! I wouldn't put my horse under that kind of strain. Some horses aren't treated fairly there. I'd go for something more relaxing like western. That gives you more quality time with your horse. I mean don't get me wrong I would love to jump but I'm not sure I could stand to keep firm with the training. (My horse is green) redface

The strain? LOL No more strain than training Dressage, less even since the performance is 1/2 arsed at best. lol Here's more info on the BSLP (They were in Jax just before Christmas. They travel...) I've seen the Lipizzaner stallions twice now and both times I was less than impressed by both the riders and the quality of the movement. For being "World Class Horses" they weren't tracking up and they weren't actually collected. The riders all used waaaaaaaaaaaaay too much curb and not enough snaffle and the riders need to work on themselves. A lot of them were bouncing around during the "extensions" and they weren't subtle about their aids. The horses are STUPIDLY well taken care of, I used to ride at the barn where they were kept while in my city so I've met them, the grooms and some of the riders.
It's a good way to introduce the general public to dressage but it's not international quality and DEFINATELY nowhere near the quality of the riding in Austria.

I've been twice so far, both times I forgot my camera. (Thus, crappy phone pics.)
I really don't think they're under much strain though. The show itself lasted maybe an hour and half at most. And they do like 3 shows a day for one weekend. (I think.) If you think about it, serious horse show riders probably do that much, or more. (That isn't including the 45 mins of exercise they get daily.) They seemed to be in great shape, and perfect health.
MOST of the horses used I thought looked as though they were enjoying it. Some looked pretty bored but hey, some horses love showing and others don't.
The one that I went to, none of them were being treated poorly.
We went back stage and every one of them was being tended to. Groomed, fed, watered.
So I don't agree with you on that, cookie, haha. smile
And IMO, you get quality time with your horse in whatever discipline you decide to ride in.
I ride trails, and I show about twice a year. And I've recently started taking an interest in jumping but nothing serious, because I can't even safely canter my horse yet.
It is really just a matter of how hard you're willing to work at it, and that goes for every discipline. smile

Stargazer, I'm not familiar with the standards of Dressage, but I do know that you aren't supposed to see the aids. I could pick out a lot of their cues though. :s

(if you get my drift?) nilou- i love the black stallion thing you posted! that is so great! i read like...all of those books when i was little! i thought they were amazing!!
