Destiny City was not ready for Mags.
Likewise, Mags was not ready for Destiny City. On any level.
Hands clutched to the handle of her beaten up carpetbag as she fidgeted in her seat. Her Aunt had nearly had a fit when Mags had insisted on keeping the bag (much less taking it with her to her new school), but the idea of getting Mags out of her hair was enough to convince the older woman to allow the girl to keep her worldly possession.
Mags did not have many worldly possessions. Aside from her worn down carpetbag that had seen years of love and abuse, she had a few equally worn down outfits, a couple mementos from back home on the farm, and her cherished bb gun (which, of course, her aunt was completely unaware had been brought along, stuffed away among her newly purchased school uniforms and skirts). Mags did not care for skirts. Hell, Mags did not see a point to skirts, unless a gal was intentionally trying to flash her private parts to the fellas like some cheap floozy on moonshine (or Cousin Annie, who was pretty much just that.)
She let out a long sigh as Crystal Academy came into sight, the limo slowing down in front of the building. It hadn't taken long for her Aunt to locate and ship her off to a boarding school, though Mags hadn't minded too terribly much, all in all. Her Aunt's home had been a far cry from the farm anyhow, and certainly a helluva lot more frustrating to deal with. She knew her Aunt had hated her Pa, and she knew her Aunt had hated her. So the further away she could get from the wicked woman, the better.
The car was put into Park and the driver quickly exited the vehicle. He was just as snooty as her Aunt was, Mags had learned, so it came as no surprise for him to quickly usher her out of the limo. After digging out her suitcase from the trunk, he planted it by her feet before moving back to reenter the car. Auntie had already taken the time to enroll her days prior, and had absolutely no interest in seeing her niece off on her first day at Crystal. In fact, nobody seemed to care to see Mags off on her first day at her new school. But Mags didn't mind. She had her gun and she had her smile, and that's all Pa said she'd ever need in life.
Glancing over her surroundings, she let out a low whistle as she recognized the gymnasium (Auntie had determined that Mags would only prove to be an embarrassment, so the girl had been left out of taking the tour of the school).
"Well I'll be damned to Hell and back. This place has got a gym afta all!"
A few students passing by paused to stare in horror at the young woman with the horrid twang, and quickly rushed off to whisper and giggle with one another. Mags, on the other hand, merely waved before picking up her carpetbag in one hand, suitcase in the other.
With a cheerful "HEY YA'LL" belted out after the girls, Mags was clomping down the front pathway of the school like a newly shoed horse, and in a matter of moments, she disappeared within the prestigious building to begin her new life in her new boarding school.
Margaret Sue-Ann Butler had arrived in Destiny City.
And she was there to stay.
