The night had only just begun.
Blueness was already out waiting for the fireflies to start flickering. She laid down, readily waiting to pounce the first one she saw. Her wide eyes were steady and focused, watching every bug that flew passed her, waiting for the one that would flash with light, ready her for her chase. She was told when she was younger, and when she and Atiago had mistaken them for low-flying stars, about the fireflies. Since then she had a minor fascination with them. The glow of the sunset began to fade her orange coat from a bright copper to dull russet, and that one, single instant of twilight held the key.
A firefly zoomed right passed her head and into the grassy field below to join many more that glowed gently in the night. The chase had begun! She bounded down the hill, her pace erratic and flighty as she bounced to catch one. Just one, Any one. By the time she managed to clench her tiny paws around one of them, she had lost interest in mere fireflies. Her glance darted around her, to the unknown, the mysteries the night held for all of this. It was a beautiful night, it really was. The trees were swaying, the last of the recent snowfall had melted, and now she could see nature around her, grass already starting to poke through, tickling at her paws when she played with it. Then, she caught movement.
A rabbit, maybe? Perhaps a fox? No, it was too big, too differently-colored to be anything she'd seen before... or anyone. She froze and watched as the pink-and-purple accented shape came into better view, and began to walk away. It was another wish, more beautifully colored than any she had ever seen, even her parents, even Atiago, who's beautiful, uniform blue pelt she had always secretly envied. A mystery! she thought, bounding ever so quietly after the mysterious figure in the night. After all, if she followed quietly, he wouldn't notice her, and she wouldn't have to talk to this stranger.
Never mind that he didn't seem very strangerish at all.

Sane wandered around in the grassy area, grumbling as the little fireflies decided to fly around him. To some it would be a hypnotic dance but to him it was a pain and an annoyance to have these little creatures of the night zoom to and fro.
Half of the time he couldn't see the little creatures due to his blind eye, which really bothered him. Sure, he was born blind but that didn't mean he was used to it. His body still acted like he had two fully functioning eyes and would make him think that he did have perfect eyesight even though he only had one fully functioning eye. The only way that he remembered that he didn't have one was when something came up where he couldn't see something that was right next to him...Like right now.
As the day started to fade into night his pink eye shone in the light while his other eye seemed to camouflage into his fur, as if it was nonexistent. He cursed at his blind eye for wanting to always stand out wherever he went, making him look different. Why couldn't he look like everyone else and not have this horrid eye? Why did it have to be him with a weird looking eye and condition? If he didn't have this then he could be normal and other wishes would leave him alone. But no, life decided to be cruel and give him this eye.
Sane felt another presence nearby and he turned around, his pink eye swirling in small circles as it tried to do what the other eye could do, which was see. He didn't have to search for very long to see what was following him...Which he saw was a orange kit. He glared down at the young wish, his eyes doing spirals as it tried to scare away the little creature.
"What?" Sane muttered as he looked down at the younger wish, not happy to see her at all.

Blueness practically jumped as the vividly-marked wish turned on her. How did he know I was there? Her mind was scrambling quickly for a plan, some sort of excuse, now that she realized that sneaking up on this wish was not a good idea. Seeing as he looked angry, she aimed for the pathetic. Her wide blue eyes and tiny stature, even for a kit her age, always helped it. Her wide blue eyes filled with tears, not yet spilling over, and she mumbled, "I w-was just playing with the fireflies, and i-it's late, and I thought you were someone I knew, and then you yelled at me!" She sniffled, not quite acting anymore, pawing at the tears, ready to work herself into real tears when she realized with a jolt just how much she wanted to find her way home, to snuggle up with her siblings and wake up and play with everyone.
"I j-just want to go home... But you're not Houda, or Chai, or Brinkley, and it was dark out, and it's hard to tell, and my mama always said it's not good to talk to strangers, but it's cold, and I'm tired, and, and, and I j-just wanna see Ati!" The young adult's eyes practically radiated misery as she pawed at her tears.

Sane tensed when the other wish jumped in fear. Why did everyone always jump in fear because of him? Was it because of his eyes...? It wasn't his fault that his eyes were like this. If anyone should be blamed it should be the god of whatever gave him his pink eye. It angered him that people were so afraid of his appearance. It wasn't like he was a bad wish or anything. He just wished others would understand and leave him and his deformity alone.
Sane's heart panged as he saw the little kit cry, but he ignored that pang in his heart and continued to glare at the wish. He couldn't help his eyes soften a little bit though as he took pity on the girl, remembering when he himself was a kit.
His eye slowed to a very slow spin as he pitied the girl but the glare still continued. He tried telling himself that he didn't care what happened to this kit or not but he knew deep down he did. Finally, after listening to the kit's little story he frowned and croaked out "Then go find them," as he turned and started dragging his feet away. There was no way in hell that he was going to help. He just wanted to be left alone, was that to much to ask?

"B-but I'm lost, and I don't know where I am, and it's cold out here..." she mumbled, still pawing at the tears, looking up at him with her pleading blue eyes, curling her tail around her. Uwaaah, his eyes are so... pretty. I wanna ask how he makes the pink one spin... It's such a nifty trick. But he doesn't want me around. Her head hung and she stood. "Sorry... I understand, mister. I'll leave you alone. Sorry for bothering you, mister..." she turned and sat down, cuddling up with her tail wrapped around her pelt, knowing that mama, or papa, or Houda, or Brinkley, or Chai maybe, would find her and bring her home in the morning. Probably. Ati would be missing her, she thought, but if the bigger wish didn't want her around, she didn't want to be a pest to him.
She hated being called a pest. Or a bother, or anything like that.

As the little wish mumbled on and on Sane stopped in his tracks, his heart took pity on the little girl as he remembered how he felt when in a situation like that as a kit. This happened quite often when he was a kit, his mother dead and his father off somewhere, god knows where. Other wishes didn't go near him, most times. Why help a freaky looking wish? A wish with no parents and only half of his vision? That was absurd.
He roughly pushed these thoughts aside and sighed, his eyes closing as he attempted to drag his feet forward and away from the kit. It was bad enough that he was remembering things from the past...And he didn't want to remember any more of it. This kit...This kit was the reason behind it all. She was the reason that he was having all these flashbacks of his past. Why did she have to do something like this? Why couldn't she just leave him alone so he could be left in peace!
But, as the little kit apologized, he gave in. The little wish was sounding worse for wear and lonely. This gave him a terrifying flashback of himself as a kit, crying in the middle of the forest lost and afraid. He shoved this thought quickly aside though...Not wanting to continue any further with that nightmare. Turning around, he looked at the wish, his eyebrows furrowing together in an attempt to look stern and mean.
"Fine...Follow me. Don't get to close though," Sane mumbled, his eye spinning as to scare the little one. With this he hoped that the flashbacks would stop and she wouldn't bother him to much while going on his journey. His brain knew that probably wouldn't be the case though.

Blueness practically shot up, coming no closer than three of his tail-lengths away from him. "Thank you, mister." she looked around, completely interested in the pat around him, but never wandering very far away from him while they walked on. Suddenly, she came to a thought, and it lodged itself quite firmly in her head. Even though she knew the strange grownup wish probably wanted her to be quiet, she just had to speak up. After all, not introducing herself was impolite, or as Chai would say, a lack in decorulum, or something like that.
"I'm Blueness, I forgot to tell you before." she piped, walking beside him as she watched the gorgeous patterns on him. "What's your name?" she asked, wondering errantly if he was named after his beautiful pelt, or his wonderfully fascinating eyes.
She looked at him with perfectly innocent blue eyes, shining bright under the moonlight as she quietly implored him for an answer. Her curiosity always got the better of her, after all. She couldn't help it one bit.

Sane jumped a bit as the kit shot up, startled. He wasn't expecting the kit to do that at all. The silence as they walked didn't help him much as he kept on reflecting back to when he was a kit. No matter how hard he tried to think of something else, his mind would always wind up on the same subject, his past.
When the young kit piped up Sane jumped, his mind focused on a memory that wasn't pleasant from when he was just a baby. Sure, it was fuzzy but it still sent chills up his spine. He looked down at the kit, somewhat relieved that the young one piped up so he didn't his mind focused on her instead of his past but also annoyed, as he didn't want to get to close to the kit and by talking to the female, he was bound to get close to her.
Stopping in his tracks and glaring down at Blueness his pink eye spinned as he was about to tell her his name. As he was about to open is mouth though, he stopped. If he told her his name then that would just be the start of a new friendship plus he wasn't to fond of his name, having been bullied by others when he was little for it. He didn't know what his mother and father were thinking when they decided to name him Sane.
"You don't need to know it." He spat at the young wish, before starting to walk on yet again. The sooner he got rid of this brat, the better.

She blinked as she looked the other wish over, shutting up as he said it wasn't her business. "I'm sorry... it was rude of me to ask," she said slowly, looking up to him with a spark of understanding. Bad memories flooded her from all the times she'd run afoul of others. That kit that had called her stupid for chasing rainbows. The times she'd been stuck - lost, cold and alone - in a hole or a tree or lost in a cave, where not everyone she me was kind to her. He looked like he had bad memories, too. Worse ones, by the way he was shying away from her. "...would you play a game with me? It's a little scary at night..."

Sane arched his eyebrow at Blueness as he walked along, his good eye focused on her and not on what was ahead of him. That wasn't an answer that he was expecting at all, this wish being the first and only one to apologize for asking about his name. All the others that he had met in the past had either gotten upset in some way or try to pry him for his name. Something that rarely worked and usually had him snapping at the other wish to piss off. Even if they were someone high and mighty, like a god. No meant no and that was that.
"No. I don't play games." The purple and pink wish spat as he glared at the partially black spotted wish with his one good eye. He never played games. People made fun of of him whenever he tried to play a game with others as a kit. Having a wide blind spot in his vision, it was hard to play with other kits and oftentimes the others would take advantage of his apparent weakness and also make fun of him for it.
He was going to tell the orange and blue kit to deal with it but as it was night and he wasn't looking where he was going, his paw hit air where there was supposed to be ground. Before he knew it he was falling into what seemed like a large hole and no matter what he did, he couldn't get a grab of some sort of surface. The only thought that ran through his mine was <********. Damned brat.

Blueness merely made a small noise of assent, falling into step with him as he led her down the dark paths. "... it's dark." her voice held a quaver in it as she said the simple thing, looking up at the faintest sliver of the moon. She squeaked as he fell into the hole, and barreled down to see if he was all right. "Are you okay? That looked like it hurt. Let me just help you here..."

"No s**t sherlock. It's night." Sane spat back at Blueness, not noticing the quaver in her voice.
Having fallen, he tried to get up but was met with protest as one of his front legs did not want to cooperate. This put him in an even chipper mood, so chipper in fact that he growled in frustration and made that leg cooperate as he stood up. He couldn't help but wince and clench his jaw from the pain that shot up from his leg.
He was trying to convince himself that it was the brats fault that he was in this situation and not his own stupid fault. But he knew better. It was his and only his fault. Which made the normal wish even more angry at himself. He should have been paying more attention dammit!
"I'm fine! Just get up out of here and leave me alone! I can take care of myself!" He spat at the younger wish, backing slowly away from her as his pink eye swirled and twirled. He wasn't about to get help, especially from someone that he had just met today. He was stronger than that. He didn't need anyone helping him. Plus, he didn't want to be hurt again. Ever again.

Blueness took the tone as it was - an instruction to leave. She was an instant away from wailing, or running off, when she saw his leg was injured. "...I... I d-d-don't-t... l-like th-th-the d-dar-ark..." she stuttered out, looking almost petrified at the thought of having to go out there, in the now almost complete darkness. She looked like she was, a very small, very helpless wish on the cusp of adulthood, looking for all the world as if he had just stolen her parents away. "I-I-I'm s-sorry-y... I c-c-c-can't-t go... N-not by mysel-elf... out th-there-ere-ere... I d-d-don't w-want to bo-bo-both-ther you b-but I just can't!" The last of her syllables bordered on hysterics as the panic struck her, making her look more like a young kit who had just opened bright her eyes than a wish not yet to full maturity.

Sane tried to glare as much as he could at the kit but just couldn't. That look reminded him all to much of the past when he was a young kit. A past that he wasn't to fond of and didn't want to remember, especially at the moment. Why couldn't they all just go away and leave him. It was better off not knowing them than having them reappear and make him feel how...Well how he was feeling right now.
Letting out a sigh of frustration, he hobbled over to the blue and orange kit. "Damn brat," he mumbled, feeling a bit better as he did so.
"Fine, we'll get out of here, I'll take you to your damned home or whenever day breaks and then you can leave me the hell alone. Got that?" Sane grumbled, looking down at the kit to show that he meant what he said. He wasn't about to spend more time than was necessary with the little bugger. Spending more time with her would only bring back more memories, more memories that he wouldn't like to relive.
The tribal patterned wish then looked at the side of the holes and grimaced as he felt his leg hurt once more. Sure, there was a slight slope to them but boy was it going to be a climb that he would rather not do.

Blueness looked at his leg with a worried expression. "I-it looks l-like it hu-urts," she commented, eyes wide. She paused for a moment, conisdering her next words with teh utmost of care and carefulness. "W-we can just st-stay put and wait for Houda or Ch-chai or M-momma or Daddy to find us..." she suggested quietly. Her eyes were wide as she watched him, waiting for him to snap at her again. Predicted, anticipated.
