"Ahhhh" breathed Mourning Fog as he slid into the cool waters of the swamp. Most of the dirt on his legs immediately dissipated into its depths and faded away as he waded deeper. The water now went up to the base of his neck in this deeper end and he moved back up a little higher. He decided he had found the perfect spot at last: A smooth stone at the bed of the pool to sit upon and sitting down, the water reached his shoulders. He dunked his head in the water and held his breath for as long as he could, just out of curiousity...it felt so nice to finally get clean after all that mayhem...

Click, click, click, click. Her hooves sounded as she trotted along from stone to rock, rock to stone to boulder. Out of nowhere, an idea had popped into her head! She wanted to see how far she could make it before she would have to touch the ground, and so she hopped and skipped and jumped from one rock to another. Every so often, she'd cheat and land on a log, of only for a second to launch herself forwards.
One of those instances had her leaping blindly.... straight into a pool of water. She fell into the water, having only enough time to gulp down a lungful of air before she drifted under the water completely. Landing in a deeper spot, the water was very nice and refreshing after all that jumping, but when she opened her bright eyes she realized she was not alone! Her blue eyes found themselves staring at a very familiar pink buck closer to the edge of the pool.

Hearing a muffled splash not far away, Mourning Fog's head darted up from under the surface, gasping for air. He was about to do that anyways, but the noise startled him. Wasn't he sure he was alone? Baffled, he shook his head from loose water and squeezed his eyes shut to get the water out of them as well. Opening them, his pale blue eyes met the soft glow of Life Pulse's. "O-Oh, hello!" he said, clearly caught off-guard by her sudden presence. Truly, when a pretty doe stumbles upon the rather personal moment of his bathing time, Mourning Fog was embarrassed. Trying to play it off, he took to licking the ground in dirt off his knee, hating the taste of it. Perhaps he'd search for some sweet berries after this bath..
An eye perked up at Sunwing who glided by. Fortunately, she was weary from the recent events as well, and was in no mood to pester her kimeti companion. Mourning Fog's eye wandered back to Life-Pulse, tracing the design on her neck up to her eye. Such a pleasant thing to look upon...he didn't even realize he had stopped grooming and was now staring with half-lit eyes.

"Hello, dear!" the doe said lightly as she kicked her legs to keep herself afloat. Life-Pulse found this to be a very pleasant surprise indeed! She had not been expecting to stumble upon this handsome buck in such a fashion, but she was definitely delighted by the surprise.
She pushed her strokes so that she slowly made her way towards the shallower water, growing rather tired from all the jumping before and now keeping herself in the water. As she swam she continued, "Am I interrupting anything?" She glanced over at him, but didn't seem to realize that the buck was staring at her, and so just continued until she could reach the bottom, then stood still just long enough to dunk her head under the water quickly and then back up, to catch a reply.

A moment passed after she had spoken where nothing was heard but the soft lapping of the water and the various life that transpired their daily routines around them. He finally realized she had asked him something while in his near-trance-like state and he started a little. "N-no of course not, my dear. You are more than welcome to join me in company whenever you so wish." he smiled pleasantly at her and added, "Nothing is too important for you to be an interruption. Only a pleasant addition to the experience." And with that he went back to grooming his right leg. The dirt was proving to be difficult to eradicate, so he started nibbling at it to loosen it up. He had to occupy his mind with something mundane to keep from staring at her.

The moment of silence was barely noticed as the doe began a co-ordinated rhythm for her steps on the way out to the edge of the water. She stopped when the water came upto her ankles, a little to the right of Mourning Fog and sat down. He spoke, and she listened, but as she listened, her ears twitched back and forth and she decided sitting was definitely not right. She sank down to lie down on her tummy in the shallow water. Still not comfortable, the doe turned onto her back. There! Much better!
Life-Pulse tilted her head back just as the buck was finishing up speaking, and speaking so nicely! She liked the sound of his voice, though it wasn't melodic like her own, it was gentle and caring, if a voice could have feelings. Her eyes fell back also, turning up so that she could look up at the buck next to her from where she lay. "Oh good, good, I just thought you looked a little distressed. Is something wrong, Mourning Fog?" Even his name rolled off of her tongue with a melodic tone to it, as her limbs curled upto her chest and were lightly brandished in the air above her underside.

Mourning Fog watched out of the corner of his eye as the doe sat down. He turned his attention to his leg as she rolled onto her back and saw the bite wounds from the leeches. Shoving his leg underwater so she wouldn't see, he looked at her and saw her in such a cute position. He couldn't resist the forming smile and listened to her song-like voice. "Nothing is wrong now..since you came here." was all he said. He wasn't lying to her, he couldn't bear to lie to her. But he wasn't sure if she really wanted to know what he and two other kimeti just went through. Honestly, how would she react if he told her they went into a dark tunnel, he acted like a frightened filly, they all mysteriously got sleepy and then ran away? He didn't want to come off like a poor coward. Instead, he just tilted his head at her gently before craning his neck to wash his back.

Her eyes watched his somewhat curious behaviour and she suspected something else was up, but not willing to dwell on the unhappy, she just shrugged lightly and put on a smile of her own. Those are infectious, you know!
She tilted her head forwards once more to look up towards the sky. Where she lay now she could see right through the branches and see the blueness that stretched beyond. That was rather rare for her to see, that is, when she wasn't climbing up high. So she lay there watching the occasional fluff float by as she replied, "Well then I'm glad I stumbled upon you, or more correctly, jumped into the same pool as you." A soft laugh, "All is well with your birdy too? She makes such a pretty noise, she does! But I don't see her anywhere... She's close-by isn't she?"

Mourning Fog felt his neck crane up, following the trail her eyes went down, or up in this case. He saw the glimpses of the blue sky above before being called back to earth by her voice. "Oh, yes, she should be lurking somewhere around here." he said almost absent-mindedly as his eyes fell on the doe again. Tearing them away, he leaned forward and looked around the rocks and reeds, finally catching sight of a swan-shaped mass of black, white, and red feathers. Seeing her companion, Sunwing's head perked up and she let out a honk of recognition. She then paddled closer to them, not having realized she drifted away. She dunked her head underwater, her webbed feet dangling in the air as she searched for some swampgrass.
Upon finding and retrieving his swan, although he barely moved, Mourning Fog returned his gentle gaze upon the doe. It felt like the first rain after a long, dry drought.

A loud honk came from the water a little ways off, and it made her eyes snap in it's direction. Aha! She saw the beautiful swan among the reeds in the water and honked right back at her. Or... at least... the closest sound a kimeti could make to a honk. But the swan just dunked under the water to search for food presumably, leaving her webbed feet up in the air. Life-Pulse grinned at the sight of the tail feathers wiggling back and forth along with the feet. Such a funny bird, she is. The doe thought to herself as her eyes drifted back to Mourning Fog.
This time, she caught him staring. Was he staring at her... lovingly? Her eyes narrowed just the tiniest fraction in concentration, but the grin on her face only grew wider. She was happy to be in this buck's company. He was nice, and she liked him. She found him cute and caring, so there was really nothing to complain about there. Oh, and he was handsome, but she wouldn't let that get to his head.
"Do you come here often? I've never been here before. I had just been jumping along rocks and ended up leaping into this pool. But it's nice here, the water's clear, and it looks too blue to be crocodile territory." The doe figured a conversation was due, as the pink buck had been caught mesmerized.

The pink buck stuttered when he realized he was caught. "I-I uhh, no I found it today b-but it looked like the p-perfect.. spot..to bathe.." he said, forcing his eyes to look elsewhere. Every moment he spent with Life-Pulse he felt more and more awkward. Yet it wasn't a bad feeling. He just felt like he had to be aware of every step he took or...who knows what would happen! And that's what frightened him the most.
He looked at Sunwing again and chuckled at her, she certainly looked foolish in that position. But he was smarter than to tell her that. She wouldn't forgive him for a while. Instead, he turned his attention to the water. It was a rather nice shade of blue. And it was a relief that crocodile's wouldn't venture this far. That would be just dandy, wouldn't it. The perfect bath after a tiresome day being ruined by a hungry crocodile. He shook his head at the thought but forced himself not to look to Life-Pulse again. He'd end up staring again and how embarrassing that would be! He was sure the doe didn't want to have eyes on her at every moment.
Instead, he decided to ask a random question. "What would you do if a crocodile did happen upon us?" he said, daring to look at her through the corner of his eye.

There was the stutter again. Life-Pulse merely smiled and waited patiently for the buck to complete his sentence before she stirred and flipped herself right-side-up. From there, she looked over at the swan one more time, nodding absently at his reply about the area. She began to zone out a little, listening more to the sounds of the lapping water and the flutter of wings above and among the trees. They were beginning to blend into a pattern in her mind and her eyes began to close as she heard these sounds reverberate inside of her mind and play back to her in a soft and fluent melody, but the buck's question brought her back down to earth and her attention back to his company.
Ears focused on the pink buck, eyes still closed, the doe stood up and took two slow paces closer to Mourning Fog. She opened one eye to see him stealing a side-glance, but just closed her eye again and inched closer. Standing perpendicular to him, Life-Pulse rested her muzzle across Mourning Fog's shoulders and then sat down. From there she gently whispered, "It's alright to look at me, dear." Eyes still closed, the doe nuzzled him softly and replied to his question, "Well, I would save you from him of course! I would leap up and release a war-cry before leaping onto the beast's back to stamp upon it until it decided to turn tail and run." A smile had crept into her words, lilting everything she said betraying her playfulness.

Mourning Fog sighed with, what was this, relief? He felt foolish that he needed to be reassured to look at her. But a smile formed on his face regardless as he nuzzled her back. Her words certainly gave him the courage to, and he looked her straight in the eye, listening to her scenario. He grinned at the thought of it, picturing her jumping atop the head of a crocodile and the beast fleeing and whimpering like a hurt foxbun.
He laughed now, shaking his head. "I'd feel sorry for the poor crocodile. I'd have to apologize later for your behavior" he said, teasingly and nuzzled the doe again, watching the water shift and change continuously. It was almost as mesmerizing as Life-Pulse was to him. The only doe that could affect him so.

She felt very at-ease with this buck, and she didn't quite know why. She didn't feel like this around any other buck, not this comfortable, not this happy. She could just be herself, her playful and musical self around him, and he just accepted her as she was. She sighed happily, and felt a smile creeping up on her again.
"Oh you would, would you? Well then I'd just have to chase him down and take it back. He'd never search for the flesh of another kimeti!" Her own tinkling laugh joined in. "And what would you do should a fabled wild-cat come across our bath and bare it's teeth at us in a terrifying growl?"

Mourning Fog laughed heartily. "We'd have to change your name to 'Turns Crocodiles to Vegetarians'" he said, laughter still in his voice. He leaned his head against her and watched Sunwing paddle back and forth, gorging herself with the underwater grasses and occasional water-bug.
He thought about her question for a moment and answered, "Well, I would stand in utter astonishment for a moment, simply because it would be such a rare sight, then I would stand right up and growl back at it! It would be so frightened by my masculinity it would faint right then and there. Then I'd have to help it regain consciousness. Let's hope it isn't the type that is grumpy when woken up." He chuckled again, moving his head to stroke her cheek. He bit her horn gently and wiggled it just slighty before letting go and returning to his former position with a content smile on his face.
